A very nice and very well-kept place to spend some time and enjoy. Lots of small steps and paths to explore the garden. Lots of trees, bushes and flowering plants. In between there are ponds with koi fish and turtles and there is also a waterfall. Also suitable for going here with children. There is also a small restaurant just above the entrance and there are also toilets. There is plenty of space for free parking. There is a huge parking lot right in front of the entrance or a little before. From here it is just a few steps to the garden. Entry is free.

Very nice garden! Dress for the occasion as theres a lot of stairs. Also, I dont recommend going after a rainy. Puddles block off sections of stair access; unless you dont mind the water.

Stopped by during a visit to San Antonio on a Sunday in early Sept. Loved the creation story for the gardens. Overall pretty but it was too crowded, including several families doing special event photos. I preferred the Japanese Garden section in Austins Zilker Gardens for layout & peacefulness.

Although advertised as wheel chair accessible it is not. the ramp is blocked off and you have to go under the gate to get in,very step incline with no rails or landings, and no even ground at all. The restaurant also claims to be accessible but absolutely has no ramps. However,it is gorgeous, great photo opportunities but would NEVER bring a mobility challenged person here again

Very relaxing oasis, a must-see spot. Its free to enter, walk around, and be with nature. Enjoy the picturesque view of the on-site waterfalls and massive Koa ponds, which is very tranquil. Its walking distance from the zoo. There is actually a trail that takes you to the front gate of the zoo in one straight shot. Beverages are available on-site, and there is also free parking. Definitely stop by on your trip to San Antonio, and get some great photos.

Its worth it because it was free but if youre going to go, then go when its a tolerable temperature because its awful otherwise.

This review is long overdue! My mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and I visited the Japanese Tea Garden over Memorial Day weekend! We all love plants and spending time outdoors. The Japanese Tea Garden was free to enter! Being Memorial Day weekend, I had expected it to be busy. We were expecting to see so many graduates there taking photos! It was a great surprise. It was sweet getting to congratulate them on their recent accomplishment! Everyone was very courteous and friendly. It was easy to navigate the garden. They had a lot of plants to look at, and I enjoyed the koi fish in the ponds too. We had a really good visit! Thank you, Japanese Tea Garden!

This place is free so don t fall for the websites trying to sell tickets. This place has such a tranquil feel and is wonderful to walk around and enjoy. The only negative is the shock of seeing how much litter visitors dump all around the grounds - including batteries in the waterfall area - WHAT is wrong with people? There are plenty of trash and recycling receptacles - perhaps they need to police and fine people?!!

Koi dance in the pond, Waterfall whispers soft peace, Garden blooms with life. The Japanese Tea Garden in San Antonio is a hidden gem, rich with history and beauty. The unique architecture, built from rough-cut rocks and masonry, gives the space an earthy, organic feel. Stone bridges, walls, and structures blend seamlessly into the vibrant landscape, which is filled with a diverse array of flowers, creating a colorful and lush environment. One of the highlights is the view from the main pavilion. From here, you can look over the koi ponds towards the massive waterfall an image that feels like a scene from a movie. The koi themselves are stunning, showcasing a wide range of colors, sizes, and intricate markings. Its fascinating to watch the floating islands gently move across the ponds, adding to the gardens sense of calm and tranquility. The sound of the waterfall in the background creates a peaceful, almost meditative atmosphere. Its the perfect spot for a quiet walk, reflection, or simply to appreciate natures beauty. Whether youre a local or a visitor, the Japanese Tea Garden offers a serene escape in the heart of San Antonio.

This is absolutely a beautiful place to walk around and watch the fish in the ponds. The parking was a hassle during the Labor Day weekend, but probably on a normal day, its much better! The place is not super big uou can see the whole area in 15, 20 minutes but you should really take your time and enjoy the scenes. The park entry is free. If you have an older person with you, be aware of a lot of stone steps.

This is a nice and free garden for a stroll, with some nice views , but it is not a real Japanese Tea Garden. It does have a koi pond, a Japanese-style gate, a waterfall, and some bamboo, but it misses many elements that a well-designed Japanese garden should have. It did not offer any concealment or enclosure, as you can oversee the whole garden in one view. The planting was too showy and colorful for a Japanese garden, and there was no borrowed scenery. To me, it felt more like a whimsical grotto garden. It is a nice place for some photos and to walk around, for sure. But if you want to see a real Japanese garden, the ones in Portland or San Francisco offer the real deal.

Japanese Tea Garden in San Antonio visit summary during eaters weekend 2024! Its free entrance - no cover charge! Our family stumbled upon the Japanese Tea Garden in San Antonio, and its truly an extraordinary gem! The moment I stepped through the gates, I was enveloped in a tranquil atmosphere that transported me to a world of serenity. The meticulously manicured gardens, winding paths, and stunning water features created a sense of harmony and balance. The tea house itself was a work of art, with a beautifully crafted wooden structure and a peaceful ambiance that made me feel like I was in Japan. The tea ceremony was a highlight, with the knowledgeable staff guiding us through the ancient rituals. What truly made my experience exceptional was the attention to detail and the warm hospitality of the staff. Every aspect, from the gardens design to the tea preparation, was executed with precision and love. If youre seeking a peaceful retreat or a unique cultural experience, look no further than the Japanese Tea Garden in San Antonio. Its a must-visit destination that will leave you feeling refreshed and inspired. Five stars arent enough - Id give it ten!
