Weird, had great times at the slackers by North Star a few years ago but had no clue the chain turned into a sexist establishment. Tried to head out to the one on St. Mary s with a group of friends and one male friend got turned away for wearing a black tank top. Mind you, it s August, 90 degrees out still and it was riddled with holes or unkempt. Was told it s not within dress code for men. We pointed out several women were wearing spaghetti strap tank tops and less then him to which the bouncer responded, it s different for women . I m sorry but Slackers is not the Ritz nor a high end bar. It s 2023, the middle of summer, and absurd to have double standards. We ended up taking our female friends button up, putting it on the male friend, and then getting in. Ridiculous.

Slackers is cool man. It s got a good vibe and lots of tvs if you re trying to catch a game. I dropped to 3 stars because of the music situation. If you go when it s packed then it s no worries, but they have a pay to listen music situation. If nothing is being played then you have to listen to talk radio or whatever one of the TVS is playing. I mean it s full blast Fox News level at a family function type of mess. It s nothing short of horrible. I spent $20 bucks there with just me and my girl trying to not hear idiots on TV arguing about what Cleveland can do this year with whoever they picked at volume 100.

We were staying at the Hampton across the street prior to going on a cruise. Hotel folks recommended Slackers. They were not wrong --- hamburger was yummy along with sweet potato fries. They werent real busy mid-afternoon & we sat quite a while visiting with a cousin that lives in the area that we had not seen in a while. Waitress stopped back by several times to check on us. Good service!

Edit: Limelight has now changed to Slackers and upon visiting, it feels like all the love and soul that was in this establishment is gone. While having pinball machines and darts were neat, the ending of yet another bar which was supporting local music is downright saddening. Limelight is great in bar service- no matter how lengthy the lines may appear, its bartenders know how to quickly prepare and remember individual drink orders so things go pretty quickly rather than waiting in line forever. Theyre also very kind and likewise the crowd. Its a chill vibe where you can go enjoy drinks and local music. Also, it seems Limelight added a tall, propane, outdoor heater which was helpful when it did get cold out! The biggest downside that could stand to be improved however is: Sound quality. Whoever runs sound doesnt do the greatest job and it drastically impacts MANY bands- it ends up disappointing when you want to hear the vocalist, but theyre drowned out and despite them conveying to the sound person an issue, it continues as a problem. As someone who goes to a lot of local shows, I see this a lot specifically at Limelight. This ends up extra disappointing because the stage lighting and even stage placement are great for up close fun. Id recommend this place for if you want to hear local bands play and dont mind the audio quality or if you basically want to drink with a few friends while hearing music in the background, its a perfect fit for that.

New location is pretty awesome on St. MARYS. Bigger space and more games. Friendly environment and food truck across the street for the kick when you need it. Drinks and Shots and even some new stuff we had Matt the GM make for us... was a Chill night and super cool, especially for our first time there. Definitely be back to play more pinball, Galaga and the badass Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles the late 90s version!!!! All they need is Sunset Riders!!!!! Check it out and have some fun!

Decent hole in the wall bar. Nothing to write home about. Music was a bit loud on a Sunday evening with only 8 people in the bar. Couldnt hear the game and difficult to have a conversation. Bartender was pleasant. Food is nonexistent here. They have frozen pizzas for $8, I did not try. Vintage arcade games line one of the walls and a couple pinball machines.

Wildly affordable bar, the nightly specials are crazy, $2.75 for a 500ml can is awesome. Bar staff were quite friendly and had a great atmosphere. Quite enjoyed the arcade games as well.
