I am someone who has played at the Gunter quite a bit at 414. Here s my story. On September 9, 2023, I played down at 414. The particular night in question, they had one bartender. Don t know why the normal guys were not there, but there was one bartender the whole night and he was overwhelmed. People had bought me drinks, as well as I ordered a drink from him and never got it. At the end of the night after everything was closed, he hand me a shot of makers mark, says don t tell anyone slams the drink down and walk out of the bar. The next day I made a complaint about the whole situation because there were several people that were there that night, a couple of them close friends that drove all the way from Abilene to catch my show. When I came in to have breakfast, the food and beverage Director, Rodolfo, came in as I was sitting with a patron who was there that night. Told me to call him ahead next time I come to San Antonio and he would make sure I was taken care of personally. Saturday, December 23 I was on my way to San Antonio and I called the hotel and told them I was on my way that I had instructions from Rodolfo to call. And she said she would relay the message. The message was not received by Rodolfo because Rodolfo no longer worked there and I did not know this. But when I had gotten there, I had apparently met the new food and beverage guy and explained to him what happened last time I was there. The two bartenders that were working that night told me that the bartender got fired over that incident. Didn t have a single issue the rest of the night. More of my friends came and we had a wonderful evening. The next day I called my agent with a good report, told her that everything went well and we had a good crowd. She told me she did not get good news. Apparently the food and beverage manager said that I came in acting like they owed me something, and was soliciting drinks for songs. Which was completely untrue because I had friends there that night that will vouch for my show and how professional I was. I ve never left a venue unprofessional and I ve never acted a fool. The accusations made by your food and beverage Director were completely false, they were disparaging, and completely overexaggerated. And if it s the comment that I made when the show started, it s the same comment I make at every show, and it s a joke to chuckle at.. I ve made that comment there at this venue many times over. we have three rules to this party, before we get started there is rule number one. This is an alcohol free show, meaning I ll take whatever free alcohol that ends up on this barstool. The second rule is to make sure you take care of the people that are taking care of y all, and the most important rule is rule number three. Have fun. I drank two drinks the whole night. And I paid for them. I reached out to at least get my side of the story, and the response? Thank you for the email. However, we have moved on, and our list of upcoming entertainers is complete. Good luck on your future endeavors. All because I defended myself from a false accuser. Thanks a bunch.

I used to love coming to this bar, but after tonight,. As a. Couple coming into a bar that has three other guests you might think that you would get at least a smile from the three staff behind the bar. Luckily, the bartender was making a drink for the charming lady, that worked at the hotel, standing behind him, and then totally ignored us as he looked for approval from his obvious superior. I hope both she and he gets to keep their pathetic jobs. So we left sadly no drinks to be had.

This was my son s experience. Said he asked 1 bartender for a glass of water and was Totally ignored. A couple of people came up for 2 glasses of water and since the bartender got 2 glasses my son asked if he could make it 3. He then said the bartender game him a if looks could kill look, then took a glass and shattered it on the floor. What kind of person, especially an employee does something like that. Vey unprofessional. My son is not confrontational, but I felt I had to say something.

Weve been visiting 414 with John and Burt (and Rolando, wherever you are) for about five years now - and I always forget that its a hotel bar. Its the best, most under-appreciated cocktail bar downtown. The service is always good and the prices are reasonable. The food has been hit-and-miss over the years - I cant say Id recommend it - but if were after a cocktail downtown this is nearly always where we end up.

OMG! Dont bother, stay away from this place! The dining, and I use the word loosely, is the worst. Poor service, long wait time, and the food was disgusting. We went there for dinner thinking that because it was the Gunter Hotel that the food and service would be great. There were 7 or so dinner items on the menu and once seated, we were told that they had no chicken, which left a burger, salad, or chips and salsa, on the menu! We asked for well-done burger and fries. We got a cold, poorly cooked small burger, wilted lettuce, and burnt chips, all for the bargain price of about $15.00 dollars! It was absolutely outrageous. McDonalds has better and lager burgers! The little girl who said she was the manager was so incompetent. It them 23 minutes to cook another burger for me. Never go to this place, it was horrible! None of the servers wore a mask!

Had a comfortable vibe. Drinks were well made and Used real fruit instead of all artificial flavoring. They had a board that stated there drinks although could have been a tad bit more legible. Quick attentiveness to customers. They Had live music that played popular well known songs and I loved the multiple type choices in seating which included bar seating, seating close to a t.v. and my favorite the half booth tables along the wall. They had a sign clearly posted on wall to direct people to order at bar which is nice for new customers who arent sure. Definitely a nice place to relax and have a drink.

Didn t have the cocktails so can t speak to those but beer was reasonably priced. That said, food is way overpriced. You can easily find comparable food for 10% less a few blocks away on the river walk. Not sure why they price so high. To be clear, menu prices are low but quantity is incredibly small. I had the sliders and they were basically one bite to finish.
