DRESS CODE?: My boyfriend got told he couldnt go in because he was wearing a crop top. It was a nice knit tank top with a rolled collar and a clean hem. It was more similar to sweater vest than a crop top. He was wearing high wasited loose flair pants with good tailoring, and barely half an inch of his mid drift was showing. Other people in the bar were wearing crop tops, but suddenly, its an issue when a man wears a tank top that is SLIGHTLY shorter than the waist of his jeans. There is no dress code statement on their website. If they really want to foster a specific atmosphere, then they should state it somewhere on their website or outside their door so people dont feel like they are getting rejected for no reason with no explanation to what the issue is. Especally, if Im gonna get turned away at a fancy establishment, maybe the security should look fancy as well. In addition other reviewers from the past few months have stated that the bar tenders no long have a uniform either witch just makes the place look like a normal bar. We did not see the front of house staff so we cant not attest to this but read the other reviews. This place is either wildly discriminatory and tells their security to deny anyone with a nuanced gender expression or needs better security and a better website that can actually inforce their dress code in a fair way. In total, were disappointed, and yall should be careful going here.

What the heck happened to this bar?? Did you change your name from 1919 to 2019? The atmosphere is FULL of people wearing shorts, t-shirts, sandles, sloppy clothes,.. the bartenders dont dress up anymore with vest and tie, smh. This bar is no different than any trash bar on st Marys, the crowd is the EXACT same! Avoid this place if you want a special atmosphere to dress up. Its just another fallen establishment giving into everyone trying to please everyone leaving their roots behind

I usually have great service here. I ordered El Diablo and bartender asked if I wanted it spicy or not. I tried to answer with like a semi yes, I thought he could make it with a varying degree of spiciness. Which Im ok if not. He just answered with attitude look I just need a yes or no answer.. I dont think I deserved such a snarky answer, ruined the atmosphere and vibe.

Impressive is to say the least! The Without a Trace drink was so good and the show of watching it being made, definitely worth it. This speakeasy, prohibition themed bar was fun. Highly recommend the Sweet Potato infused whiskey as an Irish Car Bomb with milk stout and their Strawberry Serrano infused tequila, infusions they all do on site!

We made reservations and when we arrived we were ignored. This place was positioned as a speakeasy style cigar bar so there is an expectation of an upscale experience. No guidance from staff that walked by us repeatedly and made zero eye contact with us. Do we order at the bar? Our reservation was marked by a piece of paper on the table with our name and reservation time. For being a cigar bar no one was smoking. 100% do not recommend.

Bar 1919 is an absolute must-visit for any cocktail enthusiast in San Antonio. The speakeasy atmosphere transports you back to a bygone era while the modern mixology keeps you firmly grounded in the present. My Perfect-Manhattan was divine. The balance of sweet & dry vermouth with rye was spot on, and the cherry garnish was the perfect touch. My friends raved about their rum and tequila concoctions, saying they were the best theyd had in the city. The ambiance is intimate and sophisticated, making it the ideal spot for a night out with friends or a romantic date. Dont miss this hidden gem!

Great service! I stopped by here with a friend after dinner. So, I wasnt looking for food. The manager John was amazing! Very friendly, knowledgeable, and professional! I sat for a couple of hours sipn on various whiskeys and small talk. I definitely recommend stopping by this bar. My friend had a cucumber martini. The bar infuses their gin in-house. Im telling you the drink was amazingly smooth, I thought it was a vodka. Nope! Parking: My visit was on a Saturday, so as expected, parking was kinda hard to come by. But you wont have to walk too far.

This place was probably the first speakeasy I had ever been to before speakeasy was a thing here in San Antonio back in the day. The cocktails are always excellent. If you are a fine scotch and bourbon drinker they have pours for all palates. This is not the place to ask for Crown and coke or Red Bull and vodka. There is nothing wrong with that, but this is real cocktail bar, not a dive. My only note is the vibe is no longer reminiscent of the old school speakeasy vibe, where you could have a conversation and hear some excellent Jazz (I know missed Thursday night)! It s become a loud happening spot for all age generations. Business is good - kudos to the owners - the vibe has just shifted from speakeasy to loud & trendy.

The service was amazing, they have a large menu with recommendations (I started off with Old Fashioned, then went with a Rum drink, and ended with a Six Shooter/Bourbon with Espresso), and when at the peak hour, they have over five bartenders across the bar to help all the customers. Even the other customers are friendly and sociable. Just be prepared to walk a few blocks away to get an Uber because the whole block has other venues that get crowded too. Its a nice gem to visit and have a drink. Cheers.

Our recent visit to 1919 turned out to be extremely disappointing. We had brought my brother from out of town with the intention of showing him a place that we have been frequenting for years. However, to our surprise, we were denied service simply because we were wearing tank tops. This was a perplexing situation for us as we have never encountered such a restriction before. What added to our frustration was seeing a female customer being served while wearing a sleeveless shirt. We tried to reason with the staff, questioning the inconsistency in their enforcement of the dress code, but they simply justified it as their policy. It is disheartening to witness such treatment at a place like this in Southtown, which this area prides itself on being a haven of equality, relaxed vibes, and a judgment-free atmosphere. If this establishment wants to continue with such discriminatory practices, perhaps its time for them to consider relocating.

For an expensive cocktail bar, it s really lacking for a little decor. It s cold. It s in a basement. The floors are concrete. I came in at 6pm. I ordered a drink. As I went to order a 2nd one, I discovered it was happy hour, and a variation of my first drink was half price. I decided not to order a second drink, as it felt like poor customer service that the server never mentioned it was happy hour nor that I could have saved if I d be open to a variation on my order. Just that little bit of communication of it is happy hour, if you re interested goes a long way. Oh, and the bar had a total of 4 guests in it when I arrived, so it wasn t that they were too busy to mention HH

The long bar top invites patrons to savor meticulously crafted cocktails by professional bartenders. We indulged in the Without A Trace and TI Pain; both drinks were excellent and delightful. In this pleasantly quiet atmosphere, marked by a classic allure and an air of exclusivity, the absence of unnecessary noise heightens the enjoyment. Amidst this sophisticated ambiance, cozy couches warmly invite lingering and intimate conversations, further enhancing the overall enchanting and amorous lure of the speakeasy. Parking: Parking lot is shared with the whole of Bluestar, so may be limited during peak hours. Easy street parking across the railroad tracks off Cevallos St.

From the dark speakeasy vibes to the meticulous polishing of glasses by the esteemed mixologists to the painstakingly cultivated face furniture of those masterful stewards of fine whiskeys this experience is one not to be missed. I was blown away by the variety of impossible to obtain bourbons ranging from Weller Full Proof to Buffalo Trace Kosher Rye Recipe. The managing publican on my second visit offered me an even rarer pour of Buffalo Trace Kosher in the form of the Straight Rye recipe that they keep in the office. Despite the in your face manliness of Bar 1919, it was not uncommon to see parties of the fairer gender enjoying the environment as well. Only been once with a couple friends, but you immediately notice the atmosphere before anything else. Its so wonderful, relaxing, not loud, the lights are dim, and the colors are soothing. The bar is long, but the seats are quickly taken. There are other seating options, but a lot are quickly taken or leave room for only individuals, rather than groups. The drink variety is great, and the options take you back to a different time when drinks were made with knowledge and care; that said, the cocktails are expensive (for someone in college and only a part-time job), however the one I got was really good. Not really a place for rowdy young adults. Parking: Somewhat difficult to find close parking. Some parking is free, some is along the street- free and paid. Some parking garages nearby. You take what you can get. Kid-friendliness: Not a kid welcome establishment (its a bar), so if you happen upon it, dont bring your child. Wheelchair accessibility: NOT wheelchair accessible. Must go down a flight of stairs (potentially 2, I dont remember) to reach this hidden bar.

They boast an impressive bourbon and whiskey menu and you should definitely visit for this alone. My tastes revolve around rum and I decided to try them out with a small test, a daquiri. I inquired about rum choices and much to my chegrin the bartender recommended one of my favorite rums for it, probitas. I knew this was a home run and every drink they made after was great. Try their house made concoctions, most are fantastic but can run sweet. This is a must visit in San Antonio. 5/5 will be back next time for more classics

The reputation is well deserved. There is no better place to consume a fine cocktail in San Antonio. The atmosphere and service are the cherry on top. The selection is incredibly diverse. Looking forward to my next visit.

There isnt really anything better to do in San Antonio than go to 1919, when I am in town I end up here almost every evening. Also extra stars because Christian the bar back is an absolute smoke show.

Love the atmosphere here! Drinks are always great! Bartenders are awesome and super knowledgeable. Many have been here for a very long time so they know their stuff. No food options. I think they said you could bring food in. You could purchase nuts. Bar seating, we like to sit here to watch the drinks be made. Several high top tables and a booth or two. Outdoor seating as well. This is located on the lower level so you go down the steps to get inside. Perfect bar to go to if you re in this area. Go for a stroll along the greenway when you re done!

We were back at one of our favorite bars. I asked for a Pink Lady and our bar tender did not disappoint... Kind of time consuming this drink, shaking the egg white. I had bought all the ingredients to make one myself, but have not attempted it. Now I have a reference point. Bar 1919 atmosphere is great. Love the decor, especially the bar area. It is a little nicer to come during the week when its not too busy. I enjoy talking to the bar tenders or picking their brain on mixing drinks. It was a wonderful evening, meeting a friend from out of town.

After travelling through 7 states and 50 + bars on a road trip, where we had no problem, the guy on the door said they can t accept UK official driving licences (internationally accepted holographic ID) as official ID and we would ve had to bring our passports out with us (obviously we wouldn t bring them out ) so got refused entry, pretty disappointing as was excited to try the bar out and listen to some jazz and see what San Antonio had to offer on our travels from the UK. Avoid unless you re from the USA and don t want to be disappointed

Beautiful speakeasy with incredible drinks and service. It is a smaller place and lately has become more busy (which is good for business) but not good for my fellow introverts. If you go on a weekend, expect to struggle amongst the crowd in finding a spot to sit.

Coin challenge! ******* If youre looking for a unique and upscale drinking experience, you simply must check out 1919. Tucked away downstairs with no signage, this speakeasy bar feels like a hidden gem that only the most in-the-know locals are privy to. But once youre inside, youll be blown away by the exquisite drinks and friendly, knowledgeable staff. The bartenders at 1919 are true artisans when it comes to mixing drinks. Each cocktail is crafted with care and precision, using top-quality ingredients that are sure to tantalize your taste buds. And despite the high level of craftsmanship, the prices are surprisingly reasonable. One of the coolest things about 1919 is the coin challenge, a time-honored tradition for military and police personnel. If youre up for the challenge, simply present your coin to the bartender and see if they have one of their own. If they do NOT, and they are cool, youll be treated to a free drink on the house! Overall, if youre a fan of great drinks, friendly service, and a truly unique atmosphere, 1919 is an absolute must-visit. Dont miss out on this hidden gem!

Cargo cult speakeasy. Having whisky and dudes in vests doesnt make you a speakeasy. Very loud music and din of conversation with no attempts at crowd control. No one noticed me after standing at the bar for 5 minutes, so just left.
