Recently went to Kona this weekend and had an excellent experience there! The atmosphere was perfect, and our server Emiliano treated us great. Brunch elsewhere! Started the experience with sticky floors at the entrance..THEN get ready for some steep prices for mediocre food. Service was sparce, the music was loud. We set at the bar on a busy Friday night and Susie still managed to get everything we asked with amazing speed. She is very sweet and great at making conversation. You would think for her being so busy behind the bar she would become flustered or be too busy to make conversation but she remained calm and collected. The hostess who is shorter with long curly black hair and big fake eyelashes was extremely rude to my friends and I. Very short, giving us attitude because we were a large party of 6 asking for ways to get accommodated (bar, any solution, etc) and even told us they don t give estimated wait times even though we ve been here before and they do. When we were deciding on sitting outside between us she made hand gestures that other people in our group saw gesturing for us to hurry up. We walked into an empty restaurant, and were seated by the host. The entire restaurant smelled like cleaning solution giving me hospital food vibes. But the strange part was how long we sat there without anyone greeting us and taking our drink order. This place is extremely overpriced for quality of food you receive. Patio was filthy. The only reason we stayed was because we had our dog and needed a patio. We will not return. I also don t understand why waiters/waitresses can t finish their job and close my ticket. I don t want to use the machine nor be ignored by my waiter for the last 30 minutes of my meal. Will not be returning to this establishment. Their menu was very clear on which items contained shellfish and those that didnt. My wife is allergic (and shellfish allergies can be very deadly). We thought this may be a good place to have some sushi since the menu pointed out which dishes contained shellfish and which didnt. We alerted the waitress, who confirmed twice that she understood and would let the chef and manager know. They were alerted, and we were served our food. She confirmed a third time that the chef was told to use new cutlery, a cutting board, etc. After a few minutes of eating, my wife began to experience hot flashes and the typical signs of an anaphylaxis reaction. The server came to check, and I informed her that we suspected my wife may be starting to have a reaction. The manager them came by a couple of minutes later, introduced himself as Tyler, and immediately began telling us that his chef used clean tools, etc. Immediately trying to cover the restaurant. He didnt seem too concerned about it. Maybe he doesnt understand the severity of shellfish reactions? It was clear after 4 days in the ER that though the tools may have been clean, my wife full on consumed shellfish (on dishes that stated they were shellfish free). She suffered from reactions for days and had to have 5 different epinephrine doses to keep from dying over her 4 day stay in the ER. This was not cross contamination, but clearly shellfish in food that claimed to be shellfish free. We called the following week to inform the management so that training could be provided so no one else would experience the sane thing. But unfortunately, all they wanted to do was get us to come back by offering a free roll of our choice. Thanks, but no thanks. I wont be returning to a place that is so careless with something that can be so deadly. If you suffer from a serious allergy, I would be very hesitant to eat here, as they clearly arent that concerned about it. Dietary restrictions: My wife had an allergic reaction to shellfish.

Wow I just gotta say wow!!! Me and some friends decided to stop in for a late lunch early dinner and we were thrilled with our experience. The food was excellent. We started with the sliders and then we had the prime time as our main course and Stephanie our waitress was outstanding. Never Again, my friend suggested Kona. In the beginning everything was ok but not the hype I hear about. Menu is confusing and my party ordered. After that everything went to Zero, the waitress was very nice professional, served a steak burger, then ..... eight minutes later served the other two plates. We had a bad experience with the host ( Daisy) we were a large party , 16 people, she couldn t accommodate us , she asked us to wait in the bar which was semi full, so the ones who couldn t seat were standing on the side , this lady kept coming at us and children , kicking us off from the area where she put us in the first place. It was so many times that she annoyed us so bad that we ended up leaving. When I decided to confront her and tell her we where leaving , she gave me the worst attitude. I ask if I could see her manager she told me to google his number and then she just disappeared in the kitchen with her colleagues. The other two ladies just kept their eyes open like dazzled deer in the road. We ended up in Whiskey kitchen and bar and was the best it could happen to us. Also, while waiting, I noticed the floors where very dirty no one cleaning up. I know it s a Sunday and you guys are packed, but you need to train your staff to be more efficient or hire more people. I spoke to the manager on the phone and he threw me a $100 bucks in drinks. He listened and hopefully he spoke to this lady. But we are not the kind of people that just accept money as an apology. I highly recommend you guys reading this review going to the Whisky Kitchen bar is way much better.. You guys lost a big table and a big tip .

I havent had this bad of an experience at a restaurant in a long time. Went for lunch with my wife and 3 kids and had issues from the very start. First they gave us issues about having a stroller... we are at a mall of course anyone with a small kid will have a stroller. The next issue that came up was our server completely forgot about our appetizer, I finaly told him to cancel it when we asked for the check at the end. Once our meal arrived we asked for Malt vinegar because my wife had ordered the fish and chips and traditionally that comes with malt vinegar.... and they dont have any. Thats like saying they have pizza but no pizza sauce, or wings with no ranch its part of that dish... a dish that by the way was 37 dollars!?! For ONE piece of fish and a small amount of fries it was ridiculous. However none of that is as bad as what followed, as we where eating they sat a couple right next to us and the woman who they sat had a see though shirt and bra on AND THEY SAT THEM NEXT TO YOUNG KIDS like why not just put on an adult film above the bar. I really dont care what people wear out of the house but the staff should know better than to seat them literally right next to a family with kids. There was tables all over that where empty but they picked to expose the only family with kids in the restaurant to a practically naked woman. I am throughly displeased and cant help but shake my head at the level of incompetence... a waste of 100 dollars

Food was not great. Nothing special. I ordered the surf and turf and asked for medium rare and got medium well. I then ask to have it remade and got a raw rare. Our server never brought our appetizer and never came to refill our drinks. The atmosphere of the restraunt is OK but the tables are kindof dingy and sticky and everyone just seems a little busy for you to be talking to them. Overall a 130$ dinner I could have cooked at home for like 60$.

I have been to San Antonio many times, I love the food, people and the culture! Unfortunately my visit to Kona Grill was a huge disappointment. One positive is that the appetizers were very good-(pot stickers and spicy tiny rolls) We were a table or three-Once the main courses arrived, one order was completely wrong-fish n chips was brought out instead of the ordered ribs . That was immediately corrected. The other two orders were steaks with sides. One was a filet that came out over cooked. Even the waiter acknowledged that the steak was over cooked-it was sent back to the kitchen. A new steak arrived but it clearly was not a filet and still not cooked to medium rare. No apologies from management. I will not be back and I do NOT recommend this location.

I recently dined at Kona Grill and unfortunately, my experience was far from pleasant. I ordered a ribeye steak cooked medium rare, but it arrived medium well, which was disappointing. I chose not to send it back, as our waitress was genuinely nice and attentive. However, the overall atmosphere left much to be desired. The table and floor had a musty odor, reminiscent of old water, making the dining experience uncomfortable. To top it off, our drinks took an eternity to arrive. While the staff was friendly, the food quality and cleanliness of the restaurant really detracted from the experience. I hope they can improve on these aspects in the future.

Nick, was a pleasure and a delight to meet. My friend and I came to do the routine sushi meet and greet. She s a picky eater. However, Nick was able to persuade her to step out the box. He suggested different types of rolls. He did this by being confident and knowing the menu well. To her surprise, she loved it all. Kona mgmt needs to hire a whole staff like him. I m sold, he will be requested from this point forward. Suck a high potential guy! We love you, Nick!!! (Spirit fingers)

Nice place but the service was not, excellent , Chik-Fil-A has better customer service than this place. Nothing great about the food, however it was okay but I wouldn t recommend the calamari as it was over cooked. The restaurant seats were dirty from the previous guests, not wiped down, which was unappealing immediately. I ve been to the location at North Star Mall and service there is way better than this La Cantera location, by far.

The food was immaculate but my favorite part about this place is their server Stephanie. YOU HAVE TO ASK FOR STEPHANIE. She took care of me and my family s table, and made sure the food was up to the restaurants standards. I also could not believe she was a new hire! With the way she handled the service, it seemed as though she has years of experience. Very professional and I would highly recommend this place to everyone. PLEASE COME HERE!! Today was my first day ever coming into Kona Grill, and I was visiting with a friend who comes frequently. When we were seated we were immediately greeted by our lovely server Sydney! She was very cheerful and welcoming. I had told her it was my first time visiting and she was very helpful in her recommendations of food and drinks to order. I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant and the food was amazing. Sydney was a great server always checking in on us, never letting my glass get empty, and had great conversations with us making us feel more like friends. I will definitely be coming back and requesting her section!

I had an amazing time with juan, he took great care of me, he s very motivated and confident in his postion. i have came back to just be in his enjoyable presence. tori on the other hand; ive had horrible service with her numerous times. i genuinely enjoy the atmosphere at kona, but have left plenty of times because of her miss greets and lack of personality and communication. she has never greeted me, and was very rude when i asked her question about the menu, ive been very upset about her service. I never enjoy giving bad reviews to restaurants, but i will be back at kona, but hopefully things can change soon. so i can be comfortable in this pleasurable environment and atmosphere.

Beautiful restaurant located in La Contreras mall. Excellent food and drinks. I had warm Saki and it was amazing. Excellent service. We had sides for lunch since we are trying to lose weight. The portion sizes were perfect. I had macaroni and cheese with lobster and the lobster was succulent. Drinks for two with food for three was 79.00 bucks. Well worth it. Vegetarian options: Large vegetarian selection with vegetarian sushi available. Kid-friendliness: They love kids. They even have kiddie drinks in kiddie cups

Kona is not what it used to be. It was dirty, garbage on the floor, the seats were stained. The food is over priced for what you get- food with a ton of salt. The service was good though. I would not go back.

We decided to give Kona Grill another try today since it had been a while. We ordered miso soup, chicken satay, and a ribeye with grilled shrimp. Our experience started when we had to wait a long time to get some sugar for our drinks. The miso soup was pretty average, not as good as what youd typically find at most sushi places. The chicken satay was decent, but the peanut sauce was underwhelming, and we didnt get any smaller plates, which made things a bit messy. The ribeye was tasty but slightly overcooked, and the grilled shrimp that came with it were rubbery and frozen. Overall, the meal was okay and reminded us why we hadnt visited in years. Parking: Today was hard to find parking spots took us 15 mins to get one.
