Great American style food. Parking is an absolute disaster. The server gives you a QR code to scan for validation which sends you to a website they want you to fill out while you re dining. Makes me not want to come back.

Food and service was great but the parking is atrocious. We parked there and you get a free 3 hour parking through the metropolis service. After leaving the lot after only an hour and a half I was constantly charged and still am being charged after a full 24 hours. They have yet to respond to fix the issue and Im losing my patience. If you go here, find somewhere else to park.

First time here and we started off on the wrong foot. We parked at outside of the restaurant and the sign there said to scan the QR code. It also said the restaurant validated your parking. We go in and come to find out that you have to fill out an online form giving out a lot of info. Your name, address, bank card, drivers license and license plate of your vehicle. . I didnt feel comfortable doing it. I spoke to the waitress. She informed me that if I didnt fill in the information I would get a bill through the mail charging $30. The parking is only 12. If you eat here, its free, but they have all your information. Im not coming back. Expected food to be better, it was okay. I ordered a chicken burger and it was burned on one side. My sister ordered a regular burger and it was too salty. Our waitress whats amazing though. Im not coming back. Parking: I do not recommend you park near the restaurant Find a free parking spot somewhere. They have a sign to scan a QR code, and it says that itll be validated inside the restaurant. The restaurant that says that you have to fill out an online form with your private information is driver license, your license plates, your bank account, address phone number and name. Once youre parked theres no going back they informed us that if you dont fill out the information you will get a $30 charge in the mail. Its only $12 but if you eat here its free. Its not free it costs you, your personal information. DONT DO IT. Theres parking real close by for free.

First time here..So many delicious options we wanted to try everything. Based on other reviews, the fried catfish was recommended and looked delicious. It was a bit greasy for my liking but not bad at all. Next time I ll try the cajun chicken. The onion rings were tasty and the chicken fried steak was better than others I ve tried. Not super chewy like some I ve had in the past. The fried potatoes was seasoned and very good! All employees seemed friendly, attentive, and seemed happy to be there. The vibe was rustic and casual Parking: Parking is free as long as you are dining. If you are unsure on how it works, just ask your server

This is one of our favorite spots to visit when we are in San Antonio. The atmosphere is great and the staff are friendly. More than anything, the food is amazing. Classic home style country cooking, there are lots of options for all tastebuds. For an appetizer the sausage and queso platter is a unique dish that has a great south Texas flavor. Chicken fried steak is a solid dish as are the chicken and pork chop dishes (choose from a variety of toppings). For side dishes the green beans are superb and their french fries are hand cut medallions. A decent beer and cocktail list is a nice compliment to their great food. Located in the Pearl district, theres plenty to do in the area too!

We spent the weekend in San Antonio and were looking for a restaurant that served meat and taters type of food. This is the place! The food was fantastic and very reasonably priced, it was much less expensive than other nearby restaurants. The beef tenderloin sandwich is a little bit of heaven and they have the best onion rings Ive ever had. The portions are good sized as well. Things to know before you go: you have to scan a QR code and enter your information. Then your server validates. Do this or you will pay for parking. The restaurant is in an older building and can be quiet loud with acoustics. The staff was super friendly. And theres a 500 year old tree growing through the roof! Parking: Scan a QR code, validate, then you wont be charged for parking.

Ive been coming here with my husband for a long time. But it had been a while since Ive been back... He has been coming since the 80 s. All our favorite trappi were still here.... The tree. The deer mount. The neon signs. And the food was delicious, in fact, seems like they raised the bar. The Seasoning on the broccoli was better than remembered. The wet salad is always a revelation. No one does that salad like Josephine Street. And the steak was high-quality cooked perfectly on the flat grill, with the lemon olive oil sauce on top. Makes me happy every time. The server was on point, cheerful and friendly. if you have not been in a while... I highly recommend you check it out.

My husband and I went for dinner and were blown away with everything. We ordered the stuffed jalapeños, spinach dip, chicken fried chicken and the el rey burger. Everything was amazing. The stuffed jalapeños were fried to perfection and had so much flavor and spice. The spinach dip was very tasty and the chips paired nicely. The burger was great and was a good size burger. Now the best part of the meal was the chicken fried chicken. It was perfect! The chicken was juicy and flavorful, the breading was crispy and the gravy was delicious. The mashed potatoes paired very nicely with the chicken. Our server, Michael, was quick, very attentive and so nice. I never once asked for a refill but my cup was always full. The food came out in a short time frame and tasted very fresh. We cannot wait to return to Josephine St! Parking: Parking is free for 3 hours when validated. Home sweet home cooking!!! Could kick myself it s taken me this long to get here. If you re looking for amazing home-cooked comfort food, this is it. To start, I added the garden salad with blue cheese dressing. All veggies were fresh and dressing tasty. Main course was the chicken fried steak and it had just the right seasoning and tenderness that reminded me of my Mom s cooking. Was equally complimented covered by cream gravy with a sample of onion ring. With all this comfort, I couldn t leave without trying the in-house made peach cobbler and ice cream. Again, it did not disappoint and cooked to perfection, as peaches still had a slight crunch and all with perfect seasonings. The serice was excellent and friendly staff. Place was clean. A bonus on top is they serve cocktails and beer, but will do that another time. No excuse to go because they also have validated parking. I ll definitely be back.

Heartbroken. Im a San Antonian, like many others, whos passed by Josephine Street for years. Yesterday was my first time going in. My dad and I like steak, so it made sense. My plate came out with two hairs in the mashed potatoes. I looked at the kitchen from my table and saw beautiful people, but no hair nets. Beyond that, the both of us took two bites of our respective steaks, then reached for the A1 sauce. The steaks were oily and flavorless. I paid and left thinking how grilling tomahawks from HEB might have produced a better outcome. Im hoping this was just and off day, but I dont believe that enough to go back anytime soon.

I ve loved this place for years, but yesterday I left with the ugliest unsatisfied feeling. I ordered an appetizer and the dinner house salad. They brought out a small side salad, but because I was full on appetizers, I figured it was a mistake and the waitress ordered a side salad. I got charged the price that was on the menu for what is under the dinner house salad. It was explained to me that was the price, and that was their dinner house salad. Then I was told that the actual dinner house salad, larger size, was a double and not on the menu, and it was $2 more. This makes absolutely no sense. Incredibly misleading and slightly ridiculous to pay seven dollars for a small side salad when you re expecting a meal sized salad. I came here with high hopes, to relax, and to have a beer, appetizer, and a good meal. I left dissatisfied.

Okay guys Josephine St restaurant is in my top 3 for one of my favorites in San Antonio. Ive been eating here for over 25yrs and the consistency has always been on point. My favorites are the Pork Chops, Steak with Queso, Rib-Eye, Sausage Queso Platter, Bacon Wrapped Filet and so much more. You really cant go wrong with anything on the menu. The atmosphere is great with an old 1930s store market feel which it actually was at one time. The tree in the middle of the restaurant is an eyecatcher for sure. There is an outside patio for those who enjoy outdoor eating. The servers are very attentive and greet customers with lots of friendly smiles. Super Highly Recommended!!! Love this place!! This was a great experience overall. I enjoyed sitting by the tree, and Morgan made some excellent suggestions. They were a bit pricier, but they were well worth the upcharge. The sirloin steak was a bit underseasoned and needed steak sauce, which was my only critique. The onion rings were thick, fresh, and crispy, and the peach cobbler was to die for! Parking: The parking is plentiful. I simply used the QR code once parked to reserve my spot, added my cc info, and then asked the staff for the validation code once my meal was finished. Parking is free to restaurant goers for the first 3 hours, but you MUST get the validation code from the server after your meal.

Ive heard good things about this place so I had high expectations and was disappointed. I got the shish kabobs which were cold, bland, and cooked more rare than medium rare. Plus the whole thing was slathered with vinegar so that was all I tasted the whole time, didnt even taste the steak. My husband got the chicken fried steak which was dry and tasteless and just overall disappointing. Our chips with avocado salsa, onions rings, and side of broccoli and green beans were good. BUT having the entree which is kind of the main thing you eat be terrible really brings everything down. One of the bathrooms was broken and the other one was so so gross! The servers were okay, but not very attentive and did not refill our waters until we asked. I wouldnt come back here again or recommend it to anyone. Parking: Paid parking lot and they can validate your parking for you when they bring the check. It looks to be fairly large but also with a lot of cars.

My friends ordered me mixed veggies, Plate ... It was by far one the worst foods that Ive ever eaten; Starting the next afternoon, I spent most of my afternoon sitting on the toilet, having a massive case of D! Here, it is almost a week later, and my stomach still has not straightened out. Vegetarian options: Sucks because it gave me diarrhea! Parking is on the street, and sometimes you have to walk quite a ways from the looks of it; Parking: Looks like street parking only because we drove around and parked on the side of the street, which is always risky because its so narrow. Kid-friendliness: Adults only do to alcohol drinking all over the place.

I have to agree with more than one comment- the experience was not what it was 8 or so years ago. My steak was dry and rough- no taste, mashed potatoes were cold tea was weak - chicken fried steak was less than tasty.. the water was ok. The waitress was hmmmm , not sure- not once did she check on us.. The worst part was The RESTROOM- broken, only one awful smelly potty.!!! For that I will report to the health department- no handicap accommodations. The other bad part - we paid the bill.

Had one of the best meals in a while this past Saturday at Josephine Street - one of our favorite local spots. We ve always enjoyed our outings there and food s consistently good, so no complaints. However, this outing was particularly good largely due to the great service we got from Jocelyn R. She had an infectious cheery aura about her, our order was perfect and Jocelyn was more kind and attentive to detail than one would expect. So grateful for this beautiful and bubbly young lady whose hard work and service is often overlooked and under-appreciated.

Hasnt been the same since the renovation especially with the customer service aspect. During our last visit, we had an unpleasant experience with one of the managers who thought it was acceptable to belittle me in front of other customers due to her and her teams lack of communication. The hostess seated me at a table however this manager had reserved the table for another party and forgot to inform the hostess. No apologies about the way she handled it and glared at us each time she walked by th r ought the course of our visit. When I confronted her about it, her response was that she let the heat of the moment get to her. We were regulars but not anymore due to this incident.

So disappointing My sister told me things had gone down hill, but I ve been eating here my entire life and have always had a great experience. Saturday night changed my mind, most definitely didn t impress our out of town guests and was most likely my last visit here. 1. The host was very discouraging when we checked in 3 hours before closing, encouraging us and every party who entered after us to come at another time. 2. I don t remember parking being such a fiasco. I would rather pay a meter than spend 10 mins in 30° temps trying to set up an unnecessary account with an unknown company just to park. 3. I could write an entire review solely on our hood rat waitress and the absolutely horrendous attitude she had. 4. The sangria tasted like a $3 bottle of wine with a lime. And the waitress took it from the table with half of my glass left without asking. 5. They ran out of mashed potatoes for half of our party of 4 and asked for a replacement as our $30 steaks sat under heat lamps. Then wanted to upcharge for a different side 6. When our food did come all 3 of our steaks (medium rare) were a well done hockey puck. 7. Our waitress didn t feel it was pertinent to let us know that the mashed potatoes we ordered with our $30 steaks had cream gravy on them (Ewww. I didn t realize we were getting the Golden Corral experience.) which was no where on the menu. And then copped an attitude with me when I pointed out that we didn t order gravy. 8. The broccoli was literally steamed broccoli with a lemon - no seasoning or butter. 9. My poor husband was handed back a plate of ice cold mashed potatoes once his steak was finally cooked right. Such a huge let down. No one apologized, no manager graced our table, not one person attempted to make our experience better and had my husband not insisted that they make it right - we would have been eating a $30 piece of jerky. Parking: Paid parking lot and the restaurant advertises 3 hours free - it s not. It s $12 off the first 3 hours and only covers the first 2 hours.

I was so disappointed, I ate here probably 10 years ago and it was amazing. This visit was a miss all the way. Had to get my own beer after asking my waitresses, then when our appetizer arrived we had no utensils or napkins. The guy Im guessing who was the manager had to bring us some. When the food came the fries on my daughters plate was cold, my wifes fish was warm at best, and my steak was way over cooked. I had to send it back. Im sorry to say I will not be going back.

The food was ok, we had the rainbow trout and steak. Initially the steak was over cooked, so my husband had to wait to get it re made. And we waited a very long time for the food it was warm not hot. My husband had to get his own beers because the waitress wasnt taking care of us. We had to ask for silverware napkins and a refill on the water from what looked to be the manger, Anyway he was nice enough, but unfortunately the waitress was terrible. Overall bad experience cant say I would try it again.

Went here for dinner with some friends. It was packed and there was a wait, which is usually a good sign. I ordered a steak and mashed potatoes. It was one of the BEST steaks Ive ever had. Cooked perfectly and was nice and juicy. The potatoes were homemade because they still had some lumps in them. They were delicious as well. The meal was decently priced, too. I did get a slice of pecan pie to go. It was really good, but a little over priced at almost $10 for one slice. Would definitely return and would probably get another steak.

We came a little later in the evening and we could have chosen to sit almost anywhere. Our waitress was very nice and quite quickly our drinks were brought. The menu was full of things that we wanted to eat, and given that we were only 2 people we asked our waitress for her suggestions and advice. We really wanted the stuffed jalapenos, and she strongly advised us to get them. She was absolutely correct. They were outstanding and very clearly made from scratch in house. We also got the chips with queso, sausage, and onion. We enjoyed that too, but could never have finished it. Mains were both excellent (chicken fried steak, and fried catfish). We were both hungry and the portions were large. We loved this restaurant and would definitely eat here again if we are in San Antonio for any reason Parking: Free parking lot, but you have to register your car online, give a credit card, and then get your parking validated for 3 hours. Strange system but it did work

Based on other reviews and even some very friendly local s recommendations we wanted to LOVE Josephine s! My parents and myself were taking my son out for his 21st birthday and he wanted steak! When we walked in we stood by the door waiting for a hostess or instructions. Several employees walked by, looked at us and said nothing. Finally one of them said we could sit wherever we wanted . ANYONE could have said that in the 3-5 minutes we stood there. Also it was 5:15 and maybe two tables had guest. When our very aloof waitress came over she threw some waters on the table and ran off again. We eventually ordered some cocktails and a $95 bottle of wine. The cosmo tasted like pure cranberry juice, our old fashioned did not reflect what an old fashion should look like (although it did taste ok) the bottle of wine was opened at bar with no table service and the wine glasses were pretty dirty! At one point we asked our waitress if everything was okay is she was okay! She some what arrogantly said yea I m fine and then ran off again. After ordering our food she brought over 2 slices of wonder bread and a salad that looked like it was dressed at 9am and sat out til we arrived. The only redeeming thing about this dining experience was the steak. In which 3 of the 4 people at our table actually enjoyed.

It s a local SATX restaurant that s been around for years. Not pricey but not cheap. Lunch specials are the best deal. There s a new parking thing now so you have to get that situated with the staff but it s easy and there s plenty of parking. The Spurs watch parties are fun and they have a bus that takes you to and from the games. Seating in the restaurant is close and it s best to go before noon or after noon to avoid the lunch rush. Dinners can get busy but turn around is fast. Parking: It s part of the Pearl and you have to get it validated by the staff at the restaurant after you use the QR code at the parking lot or you might get towed. Just ask the staff for assistance.

New Year s Day around 12 noon I ate the best fried catfish ever. Jan. 4th around 7pm I ordered the same plate and took a friend talking up how good the food was. Must of been a different cook because nothing was the same. The fish was over battered and over spiced. Left a gross taste in my stomach the next day even. Nothing was the same. The onion rings were also over breaded/battered. The Coke was flat and apparently many people complain about the soda not having any carbonation. Upgrade this in your establishment seriously. Not happy at all after how stunned I was. Staff was super kind with excellent service though. Pay attention to your cooks!
