Came here with my parents church group while in town. Very classy and high end place. The ambiance was amazing overlooking the Riverwalk. The food was incredible! Four course meal with each dish so delicious each bite made my palate dance with delight as it savored the flavors. The staff were very professional and were able to answer any question about the dishes since the menu changes every night. A great place if your wanting to celebrate a very special occasion since its quite pricey, but its well worth the money! Highly recommend.

Had the restaurant week menu. Potato leek soup was delicious. Beef Denver was good but fatty. It was like a short rib dish. Good but not spectacular. Others in my party had the lamb chops and they looked really good. Had a chocolate cake with ice cream for dessert. It was the best course of my meal. Overall, good dinner, great service, food was ok.

Food quality is good. Not as good as it used to be. Service quality is still excellent but you will easily spend $125 for 2 people even if you get basic menu items. This is a classic SA high end restaurant but age is definitely showing on this spot.

Our food was hot and ready on time, the lines moved quickly, there was plenty of variety, very flavorful, the appetizers and hors doeuvres were great, and the desserts were amazing! Meat came off the bones on the ribs, that sold me! And ALL of the staff was great! They made conversation, were very polite, and they checked on all of us often!

The food was very good and creative me n my wife went for our anniversary very recently. We had a good time the restaurant is very nice and has a good atmosphere. The only thing that wasn t up to par I feel is the service and hospitality of the servers. Our server Gabriel Q was rude and talked down to me and my wife which kinda made it hard to enjoy. Making it seem like we had to rush to put or food orders in. It was very thoughtful though of the chef to send us an anniversary plate.

Elegant restaurant in great atmosphere with delicious food and amazing service. Service dogs allowed was a plus. Our furry girl laid down quietly and the tables around us only learned she was there when we left. Staff was great with her and worked well around her she s a big dog! They are very prepared to handle young toddlers too. We have 2 under 2 and they were greeted with fidgeting toys, crayons, a coloring chefs hat and plastic cups with colorful extra long and bendy straws! Kids menu was reasonable and we were allowed to have them share just one meal. Their meal comes with dessert, so that was extra nice! Our server was Robin and she was attentive, super helpful and friendly. Kids meal came out first so we were able to feed them, and then enjoy our dinner a bit more calmly made a big difference not to eat cold food for once! She also knew to place plates, drinks and utensils away from the kids points for that too! The entrance is not obvious to outsiders and coming in with a wagon for both kids, we followed the Google Maps walking route and selected wheelchair accessible (for the wagon/stroller) and it had us go around it, via the Riverwalk, and into the restaurants delivery entrance. But again, service is phenomenal and we called asking how to access the restaurant and the host came and got us. Turns out we missed the front door while taking the ramp. There s a sign on street level but because the restaurant is inside a commercial building, the doors don t necessarily mention the restaurant s name which causes confusion because you know that s the building but you don t know how to get into the restaurant at least that was my experience.

Coming all the way from Houston, we decided to celebrate our one year anniversary at Biga on the San Antonio Riverwalk. We were first greeted by a sweet hostess. We arrived a bit earlier than our reservation time that we intended and she kindly told us that it was okay and that we could be seated immediately, and we were guided in an intimate corner of the restaurant! Our waiter, Ben, and the supporting staff did a superb job on service and were friendly and not obtrusive one bit. Food was quite phenomenal, it was truly one of the best meals and was worth every penny. The foie gras and the Mustard-Crusted Lamb Rack were both the highlight of the dinner, they were both full of amazing flavors and even hours later my boyfriend still talked about it especially the foie gras, amazing. A very, very minuscule detail is that we weren t quite done with the appetizer (it was empty, we just wanted utilize the sauce alongside the bread) it was pre-bussed before we could speak, it quickly was stacked along with other plates. It wasn t the fault of the server, he was just trying to do his job. Regardless, that doesn t take away anything at all. Overall we were still ecstatic and happy about the experience. The desserts (citrus olive oil cake and the sampler) and cocktail (espresso martini) were outstanding. I was so glad my boyfriend enjoyed my choice in dinner and he gladly said we d come back. Thank you so much, Biga, for the exceptional service and good food!

Wow! We are staying in a hotel just south of the riverwalk, and my wife picked Biga based on a fairly generic qualification, of: 1: restaurant is on riverwalk 2: gluten free reviews (she has celiac) were positive (they indicated nearly anything could be made GF) What we didn t know was that we would have the pleasure of having our server, Chris S, lead us through ordering an absolutely delightful dinner, in a quieter and more conversation-provoking atmosphere than most of the riverwalk. The chef has a marvelous signature dish with antelope and quail. We chose to each get a special salad and split the main. Chris suggested a few wines for great pairing (we had 2 of the 3, and they were MARVELOUS!), and because we saved space for dessert we were able to each have the sticky toffee pudding (my wife s was gluten free, for which extra thanks is proffered to Amy, the pastry chef, for taking the time to adapt!) We were not expecting to find such a wonderful meal, at a place that suits us so well, with such a personable server so we are delighted to share this with you all! If we return to San Antonio (we drove down from Denver, CO for spring break, having never been here before) we will dine here again! Dietary restrictions: GF can make just about ANYTHING work for a celiac.

Stumbling across a gem like Biga is like finding that youve got the winning cricket jersey from an Australian World Cup Final - a rare and joyous occasion indeed! I had the distinct privilege of hosting my dads 65th birthday bash at this venerated San Antonio establishment and let me tell ya, it was a ripper! The radiant ergonomics of the space gleamed with an aura of sophistication, evoking an atmosphere that had my heart bouncing like a kangaroo in the outback. Have you ever had the experience of downing a red velvet martini that, like a didgeridoo performance, reverberates through your being? Well, if not, then Biga will redefine the cocktail game for you. Every sip was like diving into a lush, velvet sea, chinning a heady and tantalizing journey through the echelons of mixology. Now lets all just take a moment to appreciate the culinary bravura of the chef. The lamb was as succulent as a ripe mango on a hot summer day at Bondi beach. The precision of the cooking struck a chord with me, the meaty melody of flavors humming a delectable tune. The salmon too reeled in heaps of praise from our party, flaking perfectly onto our forks - a true triumph from the deep sea. Yet, what tied this gastronomical journey together was the final act, the sweet climax: a sticky date pudding that had everyone at the table raising their spoons in admiration. It was served with a lovely note from the kitchen that added an endearing touch to the already joy-filled atmosphere, like a friendly Gday from a fellow Aussie. All in all, Biga impressed with its fusion of elegant dining, sensational flavors and inviting hospitality. It comes together brilliantly, offering an experience that is, to put it simply, fair dinkum. I sail out with a grin like a shark thats just chomped on a great white. So score one for Biga, earning a well-deserved 5-star review from yours truly. As I would say in good ol Aussie terms, Biga, youve done us a beauty!

Biga was my go-to-place to enjoy the fine dining experience that San Antonio could offer. The atmosphere, still wonderful like always, however the food and the service has degraded. I was disappointed on the foie gras. It came sired, but under cooked. The main course (lamb) was served lukewarm and even though it did not lacked in flavor it had a rubbery texture. Don t get me started with the wine recommendations and how the wine was served. We skipped dessert in fear of continuing our disappointment. As I left, sadness came over me as I had made wonderful Epicurious experiences at Biga.

Our anniversary celebration at Biga on the Banks was an unforgettable culinary journey. From the moment we stepped in, the ambiance exuded elegance and charm, setting the stage for a memorable evening. We embarked on a culinary adventure by ordering nearly all the appetizers, and we were not disappointed. The chicken fried oysters and foie gras were standout dishes, each bite bursting with flavor and executed with finesse. For our main course, the lamb rack stole the show with its impeccable preparation. Cooked to a perfect medium-rare, the lamb was tender and succulent, elevating the dining experience to new heights. Each bite was a symphony of flavors, leaving us craving for more. One of the highlights of the evening was the Texas Antelope and Quail dish, a testament to the restaurants commitment to sourcing locally. Every component of the dish, from the antelope to the quail, showcased the rich flavors of Texas, highlighting the culinary diversity of the region. Throughout the evening, the wait staff provided impeccable service, attending to our every need with warmth and professionalism. We were treated like royalty, further enhancing our dining experience. Overall, Biga on the Banks exceeded all our expectations, offering a culinary journey that delighted the senses and left a lasting impression. Whether its a special occasion or a casual dining experience, this restaurant is a must-visit for anyone seeking an exceptional gastronomic adventure.

Our server was very attentive without disturbing us, which is very important to me. We started with the Escargot. My husband enjoyed it, but it wasn t my favorite. There are many mushrooms in the dish. I ordered the lamb chops and they were medium. They were absolutely perfect and the cheese grits were a nice addition. My husband enjoyed his antelope and quail entree. He also ordered the antelope at a medium temp, but would have preferred it a bit more done. The atmosphere is gorgeous and we enjoyed watching everyone on the River Walk. The cocktails were excellent and the wine selection was extensive. Our server suggested perfect pairings for our meal. One line review: Fantastic food, rushed service, great value. I chose this restaurant for a work dinner based on its excellent reviews, and as far as the food is concerned, we were not disappointed. The restaurant had been taking part in restaurant week. However, it finished the day before our reservation (we couldnt get a table the previous night) imagine our delight when our server, Chris, explained they had decided to extend it. The four of us each ate from the restaurant week simplified menu which was astounding value of $55 per person for 3 courses, one of us also did the basic wine pairing for only $25! For the starter 2 of us had sherry glazed 1/2 Lockhart quail, poblano corn pudding, salsa matcha, pickled onions, the balance of flavors were good and the cooking of the quail was perfect. A colleague had the Thai inspired vegetable salad, shiitakes and crunchies, sesame ginger dressing, I was able to sample and the crunch of the vegetables with the fusion a Thai inspired dressing was delicious. My other colleague had grilled beets, Texas citrus, lemony arugula, goat cheese, sherry garlic vinaigrette, I also sampled this and thought the flavors married well together, however, it was lacking in varying texture. I would of enjoyed a sprinke of chopped walnut or pistachio to finish the dish. The only undesired experience which resulted in a unanimous agreement of slightly downscoring service, was the server removing plates from the table while others were still eating, in addition, the entrees arrived while one person was still not finished with thier starter. This was disappointing as the whole experience felt very rushed (we sat down at 8pm and we walked out the restaurant at 9.10pm) Back to the good stuff, for entree 2 of us had the baked Scottish salmon, mushroom duxelles, toasted panko, farro, wild rice and red quinoa, chicory, tomatoes, citrus beurre blanc, for me this dish was as good as it could be. Excellent combination of flavors, textures ans notes, the salmon was cooked to perfection! My other two colleagues had beef bourguingnon, beef Denver, bacon gravy, carrots, pearl onions, mushrooms & green beans, garlic mashed potatoes, again another well put together dish, the gravy is what stood out as the key component to bring everything together. And finally the deserts....being from England and being told the Chef is from England I had high hopes for the sticky toffee pudding with English custard and so did my colleagues as 3 of us ordered it, the pudding itself was fluffy and not dried out, the toffee was rich, without being to sickly and the caramelized brown sugar added depth, the custard was served cold, which personally I prefer it warm, however the hint of vanilla through it was a nice balance against the pudding. The other dessert that was ordered was the warm chocolate peanut cake peanut caramel strawberries, peanut praline, vanilla whipped cream, a one word description would be, decadence. For me personally a little too rich, but if you are a fan of chocolate, order this dessert. Attention from the server was heavily weighted towards one person at the table, who ironically is the least interested in food, but happened to be the one that opted for wine pairing, so for the rest of us, the experience felt less special as far as service. I didnt catch the bartenders name, but he did a fantastic job of making custom drinks. I had some sort of Berry mocktail. Overall, for the quality of food I would HIGHLY recommend, however if you are looking for a comfortable, relaxed evening and time to wind down, this is not the place for that based on this experience. Dietary restrictions: Not that well equipped for dietary restrictions.

Visited this restaurant for restuarant week. It was ok. I had the chicken fried oysters, vegan stuffed cabbage, and toffee dessert. The oysters were good but the ink pasta lacked flavor. The entree came with two stuffed cabbage leaves. One was very difficult to cut with my knife whereas the other was easy. The content was a good mix, with lentils and garbanzo beans and stewed tomatoes. The roasted brussels sprouts on the side stole the show... yummy!! The chocolate cake and toffee were good. I didnt finish because it was just so sweet, but Id order this again and split it with someone. My waitress, Rosemay, was attentive and kind. Overall, ok. I dont think Id pay more than I paid for restuarant week for my meal though.

Finally, I found the time to try this restaurant. It is participating in Restaurant Week, so it was a great opportunity. The dining room is beautifully decorated and situated right on the Riverwalk. The menu was carefully crafted and has great choices for everyone. My friend and I ordered different dishes so we could try more options. I ordered the Thai vegetable salad, biga bourgenion, and the warm chocolate peanut cake for dessert. My friend ordered the beet salad, rack of lamb, and the sticky toffe pudding for dessert. Our waitress Robin was very nice and attentive. Our food came out quickly, and each dish was better than the first. We happily cleaned each plate, and the dessert was a perfect finish. The restaurant also has special parking in the One Alamo garage, and they validate, so make sure to park there when you come to the restaurant.

We dined at Biga for our 39th Wedding Anniversary. Everything was fabulous! We arrived earlier than our reservation, and were seated immediately. We had a window seat and coukd see the River Boats go by. The front door was difficult to locate. We wandered around the building and asked a custodian and even called to figure out where to go. The menu was extensive. I had Cheese Platter, my husband had Escargot. I had Salmon, he had Mahi Mahi. And Biga treated us to a fruity dessert in celebrating our Anniversary. Would love to return again.

Great dining experience!! The food and atmosphere was amazing. It was a little confusing finding the front door but after that it was really great. The Thai salad is a great appetizer and the escargot was delicious but she did not want to try it. Their steak was better than most steak houses and the toffee desert was 9 of 10. So adding this little update. Kat and I woke up this morning talking about that damn toffe cake thing and we agreed it was the best desert we have had in a restaurant and I forgot to mention that they have a great wine selection.

I have no complaints about the food, my lamb was excellent. The service was not what we had expected. Our server apologized several times about the slow service and said that she had a demanding group that was taking her away from our table. After we had finished with our main course we waited twenty minutes for our dessert. The server never returned to see if we wanted additional beverages. The server apologized and said it was due to a backlog in the kitchen. Our dessert arrived only after I asked another staff member to see what was up with our dessert. It was 9:30 in the evening, we were the only table left in our section of the dining room. We decided she must have thought we had left. Not sure why there was such a backlog in the kitchen that late in the evening. We will

Food is ok not so special - the service was great. The beef Denver was outstanding- the foie gras was at BEST grade C - and it was disappointing to see it used seared by a well known chef. The salmon was cooked well. Cheesecake had a poor consistency and seemed to be old . The soufflé had risen over the top and burnt on the edges which I guess is easy enough to understand but it was undercooked and the flavours promised did not come through with the creme anglaise. Lamb was also ok but not special - the cheese and grits that came with it was. The sticky toffee pudding was also disappointing as the cake was dry - not sticky and had too much flour and too little flavour. If you go expecting a routine meal in a mid market place this was ok but in the end I left disappointed.

Biga disappointment! Had to ask for salt and pepper as food was bland. Luke warm soup. Rack of lamb was in fact 2 tiny chops that appeared to come from a rabbit. I asked several times if this was the full portion or half serving. Grits were not cooked and cold in the center. White wine was room temperature. Whole experience was right up there with red lobster. Desert was excellent, but by then who cares.

The price is a little higher, but in my opinion it is well worth it. Kid-friendliness: We took our 3 year old daughter and 5 year old son there and the staff immediately greated them and even brought paper, crayons, and a small toy for them to play with. We got them one kids plate they shared, the chicken tenders if I remember correctly, and my kids devoured it.

The food is amazing. Colorful, flavorful, perfect temperature and timing. If youre in Texas, game is a must, but lamb and seafood wont disappoint as well. American, French, Texan, and Asian twist in one. Chef Brandon was in charge and took some time to check how I was doing. Mathew, the team on the floor and hostess were friendly, knowledgeable, accurate and professional the whole time. Mathew was the only server among every place I visited during my long stay in town, who really knew about the menu, describe it perfectly and recommended cooking temperature for the meat, wine and dessert. By the cleanliness of the facilities, the set up of the dinning room, and the quality of the coffee you can tell that not a single detail was left aside. Taking the alcohol from the bill, I paid the same at my hotel for an average Uber Eats food with plastic ware, so, the relation between quality and price is more than fair.

For 2 years, we have had a private company party at Biga s. The staff is always helpful and the food is always good. But this year they treated me with so much love and I want to give the love back. I met with the manager before dinner to make them aware of my secret pregnancy, and asked them to privately handle my drinks but to make them look normal, so that my coworkers wouldn t ask questions. Not only did they go above & beyond with the sparkling juice, and the winks when the hors d oeuvres had fish, but they inconspicuously brought me a separate dessert (when everyone else had a bourbon glazed dessert). I got to keep my secret another day because of the staff. Thank you all

This dinner was for a special occasion which I noted in the reservation but it was never mentioned during the service. Overall, it was a decent experience with a mixed bag on the food and drinks. And they need more consistency on service. Starting with the low point is the service which was a mixed bag. The start was promising with the server attentive but once we started receiving the food, our server didnt even ask how the food was until we got dessert. In nearly all restaurants at this level, servers ask how the food was. And I saw in other tables with a different server were asked how the food was. The water was regularly filled and table cleaned of food crumbs before dessert. So there were positives but I expected more for the price. The food was better than the service. I often find food in the US over seasoned. These were seasoned to our expectations - closer to European style. The only downside was the Texas Gulf Chicken Fried Oysters which came out cold especially the squid ink linguine. We had to mention it as the server didnt even ask how the starters were. They thankfully removed it from the bill. The highlights for us were the fresh focaccia bread (though we had to ask for olive oil and balsamic vinegar to dip - were they expecting us to eat the bread on its own?), the scallops with grits (great combination and the scallops were perfectly cooked nearly melt in your mouth), the red snapper (surprised me on how well the curry and cous cous complemented the snapper), and the sticky toffee pudding (we asked for them to be generous with the English custard but they didnt but it was still good and not overly sweet). The middle of the pack were the antelope and quail, the two potato gratin (it is only one portion but used sweet and normal potato), and the drinks. The antelope (which is farmed) was surprisingly tasteless but the rest including the quail and goat cheese tart were as expected. The gratin was fine though you can barely taste the sweet potato but the portion was smaller than expected and not worth the price. The drinks quality depended on the bar tender as the first round was great. The second round was very inconsistent (old fashion was overly sweet and the lemonade was so watered down). Our table was overlooking the Riverwalk and tables were spaced nicely so that people could have conversations and it wasnt noisy. Bathrooms were clean though I believe there was a sign that they are redecorating the place.

I had an amazing experience here, which may be unduplicatable. So, instead of the specifics, I will share the core things that made this such an exceptional experience. This restaurant is family owned, so they aren t as concerned about flipping table times. This means you can take your time and enjoy your evening This is a menu that changes regularly, which means these are chefs that take pride in every plate they make. Every dish is made exceptionally and with care. I would encourage you to be bold and try things you might not normally order The staff is trained to treat you like true guests, not just people who come to eat. Everyone was beyond courteous. I started my experience when things were slow but even as things got busy everyone was diligent and attentive Also, this is one of those places where I feel like I got what, if not more, than what I paid for. Amazing value for the experience. Also, ambiance is on point whether you are inside or outside. I was a little confused getting into the restaurant, you have to go in the international center on one of the street level doors (not river walk). I just called the desk and they helped me lol. I do want to give a shout out to Jose for a beyond memorable experience. Thank you, it will be a part of what I recall about San Antonio and a place I recommend for years to come A note to my price point, I did a personal dining experience and did appetizer, salad, main course, dessert, and had drinks to pair with my each meal and was there for a couple hours. Would 20/10 do the entire experience again.
