My husband and I have been to Sea Rim several times. Some days it seems surreal. The mosquitoes are horrible tho except where you have a breeze. And dont go out at night and bring repellant for sure. I also bring a hand vacuum to suck up the ones that get in the camper. Wouldnt recommend it for kids.

Beautiful! Also running water you can go like right up to the beach . But if you plan on camping overnight make sure you are covered in 99% deer and misquitos don t like you my xbf couldn t take it because they like him and we just had to go/escape from the inferno that descended along with the sun. They were even somehow coming in my completely closed van everywhere after I had sprayed all around and inside and had no lights on. This was February.

We were there for one miserable, mosquito-filled night, April 4. We were booked for two nights, on our way to TX for the eclipse. As soon as it was light 4/5, we packed up and left. The mosquitoes were horrendous despite the very stiff wind. The small mercy was that it wasnt raining. There is only a vault toilet. No showers. There may be a time of year when this place is habitable; but, we certainly wont be back to find out.

Im gonna cut straight to what I feel is the most important issue. There are Gators. There are LOTS OF GATORS. EVERYWHERE in May. They are on the pavement in the campground at night and there are no lights. Take precautions. Be careful and be ready to run. Keep a close eye on children and pets. I feel visitors should be warned of the dangers. Dont let anyone minimize this. Its not an exaggeration. Its a great place but its not Disney. Youre on your own and have to take responsibility for your own safety.

The only negative we experienced at all was a huge huge huge amount of mosquitos! Two nights the wind died down and the bugs came out in force!! We ended up needing to use bug spray while in the camper.

Sea Rim State Park, at night, is mosquitoes by the trillions hosting their endless involuntary blood drive, other than that, it is a very peaceful and quiet place to go to and one of the most remote places in Southeast Texas where the only sounds you hear a lot are the waves from the gulf and the birds chirping. They have a wonderful nature boardwalk trail and there is a floating campsite for those who want to tent camp in the middle of the marsh (only accessible by a shallow draft boat) Make sure to bring enough food for your entire stay because the closest store is like 30 miles one way (there is a convenience store in Sabine Pass, TX that has some good food including delicious hot links). Another nice park nearby is the Sabine Pass Battlegrounds. Sea Rim had some nice facilities until Hurricane Rita and Hurricane Ike leveled out the park. As far as the mosquitoes go, bring plenty of repellant spray and to be in your rig before sundown until after sunrise because you can have that door open for one second and thousands of mosquitoes come flying in. There are no flush toilets in the parks bathrooms. Your camping skills as well as cooking skills will be put to the test here since it is remote, but it is a wonderful place to be. Alligator attacks on humans, unprovoked, are very rare. Alligators usually keep to themselves.

If you want to feed mosquitoes, go ahead. If you hate mosquitoes or are even afraid of mosquitoes, then I advise you not to go here. We went there in winter, and there were still endless mosquitoes. There was nowhere to hide. I don t know what it s like in summer. During the short time I opened the window to communicate with the staff at the door, a few mosquitoes flew into the car, which was absolutely devastating. We didnt dare to leave the tent to go to the toilet at night. We almost knew that it was still like this at the edge of the sea. I really didnt know what it would be like to live in the wetland inside. It was so scary. If the scenery is beautiful and there are many mosquitoes, I will tolerate it. There is no scenery at all. Very dirty beaches, almost no dry and clean beaches, and turbid sea water, like swamp water, compared to the barrier island. It was so bad that I couldnt wait to leave after one night. When I left, there were so many mosquitoes that you didnt dare to open the car door. When we got in the car, there were so many more mosquitoes in the car that we fought for a whole day. The place is really bad. never come again

BE AWARE: Massive mosquito Infestation at Sea Rim SP as of 12/2023 - and is an ongoing problem. Full details Giving 4 stars because the park itself is clean and well maintained. The staff/rangers are friendly and helpful. We saw the rangers out every day checking on things and maintaining the property - which was excellent. They all deserve 5 stars! But dropped a star because potential guests NEED to know about the mosquito situation and the state website should add it as a warning for this campground (like states do with wildfires/burn restrictions and other important things). Upon arrival, just rolling our window down at the check in, we were swarmed by mosquitoes rushing in to our B van. You can literally not be outside without DEET and even then, we recommend long sleeves, pants, socks and a netted hat would be ideal. Make sure you cover as many of your outside vents on your rig as possible - the mosquitos will come in through your furnace/fan vents and any other tiny fissure they can find. Yes - covering those vents will also make your rid muggy and humid inside. The mosquitoes are worse. We booked and stayed 4 nights. As full-time RVers for 2+ years, we have stayed in all kinds of places, climates and circumstances. Ive never had an issue with this many mosquitos - anywhere. We literally couldnt leave our rig, absolutely couldnt cook outside (we did the first night, but plan to be cooking and eating inside for your sanity and health), and we definitely couldnt build a fire. Carrying trash to the bins makes you a target and youll literally be covered in mosquitoes, like they are glitter someone through on you (but if glitter sucked your blood ). We saw multiple rigs arrive and leave before their first night started (its that intense). Every night before bed, wed kill as many mosquitos as we could find in the rig (make it a game so it is less creepy to think about). But by our fourth night we clearly had hundreds of mosquitoes hiding out in our 21 foot van. Turned our AC on every night to keep the rig cold enough to, hopefully, make them less active while we slept. The beach itself is beautiful and the coastal winds keep the mosquitoes at bay there, but thats the only reprieve. There is a boardwalk over inland water that was also enjoyable and fairly mosquito free. Those were the only times we got to experience the outside. Our site had partial hook ups, no issue there. The dump station is actually a little less than a mile from the campground (not on site) and as expected, it is a mosquito nightmare to use. There is virtually no cell service and the Wi-Fi is too slow to be useable. Which is crazy bc you cant be outside and then there is nothing to do inside. If you book this park - download content and go prepared!

This place is very unique however absolutely do not get out of your vehicle until you are covered in bug spray. The mosquitoes are Relentless and there is no getting away from them unless you are a good ways down the beach closer to the ocean. I cant stress this enough, make sure you have bug spray although they do sell it for $12 a bottle at the campground check in. The boardwalk out over the marshy area is pretty awesome. This place is pretty desolate mid December right now. Only a handful of campers here.

Cool little park, but we were not prepared for the magnitude of mosquitoes we encountered while there. I did read some comments before we went saying that the mosquitoes were horrible but took the attitude of how bad could it be? We live in south texas and have mosquitoes where we live... Boy were we in for a huge surprise! We tried to use some natural oils that are supposed to repel mosquitoes but the mosquitoes just laughed at it LOL After just a few minutes of being swarmed, we went to the guard shack and asked for something with DEET, which they provided for $11, $9.90 with our park pass discount. That was our only saving grace. Even with that though, we still had to restrict our outdoor activities and ended up cooking all meals in the trailer and not enjoying the fire ring during the cool nights. The beach was great, and we enjoyed our walks several times a day. The sunrises and sunsets were spectacular! They also have a cool little boardwalk trail out over the marsh. They even have kayak rentals for marsh treks, which we didnt do. But be warned... bring DEET and spray up... multiple times while outdoors! Open and close vehicle doors and trailer/tent doors quickly! And then spend the next hour killing mosquitoes! We came, we saw, not sure if well be back...

Will start with our only con: mosquitoes. As soon as you pull up to check in they swarm your vehicle. Just use repellent and youll have a good time. Plenty of walking on the boardwalks. The west beach is open to vehicles, accessible from the RV camping loop. There are 15 RV camping sites with electric and water, asphalt pads, fire ring and lantern hook. Primitive camping on the beach. Take what you need, the closest store is about 15 miles away. The closest Walmart will take you 30 to 40 minutes.

Beautiful campground, short walk to the beach, with large camping sites that are grass covered, pull through with water and 50A electric. The beach is sandy, clean and not crowded. The water is very still probably because it is shallow for long distance. Lots of pelicans and seagulls. SUP boarding was fun, with thousands of fishes swimming/flipping around. The kids loved seeing the birds catching, and sometimes dropping, fishes. We also seen the fin of shark(s) that seemed to be hunting the fishes. The main problem is the mosquito infestation! Ive never seen that much mosquito in a long time! Despite all the insects repellent spraying, we couldnt finish the weekend. Had to leave after lunch. Also, there was a group partying overnight with chats/laughs and very loud music until 5am. No flush restrooms or shower. Theres outdoor cold showers by the beach to rinse. For people who dont have a truck or a vehicle that can drive on sand they have a spot where you can park your vehicle by the road and walk to the beach that isnt very far. We drove right up on the beach and pitched a tent and set up right there on the beach and swam and everything. Dogs are allowed. No restrooms so you got to bring something to go in if you got to go. We all loved it. We will definitely be going back. Dog-friendliness: Seen a dog swimming in the ocean with their owner.

I stayed in the RV park in my bus with my two dogs. The area is mostly clean and well maintained. I generally stayed on the section of the beach closed to vehicle traffic that didnt allow fishing. The camping spots allow are pull through and give lots of privacy. The nights are generally quiet, and the night sky is gorgeous. On Monday afternoon, I had the entire beach, as far as the eye could see, to myself for almost two hours. I highly recommend this park. I didnt use the restrooms, but my friend told me they werent super pleasant. Something you can expect from a small state park in the hot, hot Texas summer. There werent real showers like when I came here as a kid back in the day, but there are rinse off showers on the boardwalk. In previous trips, Ive spent time on the marsh side of the park kayaking and will definitely do it again.

excellent experience, with the recovery of the roads, public showers, bathrooms, constant surveillance of the local police and the parks department, guarantees a safe place to go, the clean beach ... a payment of $3 per adult to help keep the areas, children under 12 do not pay, pets are allowed with rules.

Its an amazing state park! My family got to enjoy the beach, marshes, and seeing eco systems. Very clean park and tons to do. Less populated the Galveston and surrounding beaches. Wish we wouldve packed our tent to spend the night. About a 2 hour drive from the Houston area, but its an easy drive. Definitely recommend for a day trip with friends and family. Toilets: Clean, have toilet paper and hand sanitizer Picnic area: Lots of picnic areas around the park.

Very clean state park. We had a great time with out all the crowds to worry with. We will definitely come back. If your looking for a relaxed family atmosphere with primitive beach camping this place will be great. The boardwalk thru the marsh area was a good touch also. Only tip to remember is make sure you apply bug spray first thing so you can enjoy your trip.

We came here for the Fourth of July weekend and we expected it to be ridiculously busy, but it pleasantly was not busy at all! We camped and RV d at the state park for 4 days/3 nights and we had a terrific visit! Lots of nature to explore :) BEWARE OF THE MOSQUITOES ~ COME PREPARED TO FIGHT Playground: There is NO playing equipment, but there is an enormous amount of nature to explore! Toilets: Two separate restrooms on site, but no sinks - only hand sanitizer. Restrooms were cleaned twice a day during our stay! There are outside two semi-private shower stalls, as well as a rinse station out on one of the piers between the camp sites and the beach :) Dog-friendliness: Dogs are welcome on leashes:) Picnic area: Every reserved camp site comes with a picnic table and fire ring. There are a few other areas inside the State Park with picnic tables and a fire ring that are for day use :)

TL:dr - Great beach until MOSQUITOES! Family of 4 had a great time. Friendly Park Rangers. Clean pit toilets near entrance. We drove down the beach, parked on the sand, set up our sunshade, and played in the surf. The water was warm. The weather was sunny. The breeze was perfect. The sand was soft and didnt hurt my sensitive toes. Everyone was friendly. There was no litter or garbage anywhere. Lots of migrating birds minding their own business. No noticeable bugs. It was a lovely beach experience. If we didnt already have a hotel in Beaumont, we would have stayed and primitive beach camped. I hope to do that next time. But... We packed up after the sun set & stopped at the toilets. That stop was a mistake! Our van was immediately inundated by mosquitoes. After closing the doors, we had to have a mosquito smashing party. We smashed over 50! Mosquitoes amassed on the outside of the windows so thickly that when I turned on the wiper blades, another 40+ smeared across the windshield, and those were the ones that didnt fly away. That was definitely an experience Ill avoid repeating. Do yourself a favor & bring plenty of mosquito repellent. Toilets: 2 pit toilets near the park entrance. Both were clean and well stocked.

We did not run into any mosquitoes, yay. We rode our bicycle on beach towards the east end of the parks beach. The east end is closed to cars because the Access road is washed out. The further east we went the better the shells on the beach got. It doesnt seem like many, if any, people ever get out on the East beaches. Definitely our new favorite beach for finding decent shells. Toilets: They have a couple of restrooms in park. They are pit toilets but they are clean ones. Picnic area: I saw the park ranger out picking up ocean trash from the beach.

We wanted to check out the floating campsite and marsh trails at Sea Rim. The park is nice, clean, and uncrowded during the week. Composting toilet stations were clean. Park personnel were friendly and helpful. We were able to rent kayaks (unaffiliated with the State Park) on-site to tour the marsh trails. The rental kayaks and life-vests were not well-maintained. State Park-owned kayaks (provided with the floating campsite rental) were a lot nicer and cleaner in comparison. We found the floating campsite and while the idea is intriguing in theory; in practice it serves as a bird perch when not in use. Due to it being covered in bird feces, we were not too keen on a future rental. However, park personnel may have the policy to spray it off once a rental is secured??...I would definitely inquire, if I were you. The moderate trail was a little claustrophobic due to the narrowness of it. And you can only really enjoy the overall view of the marsh from the floating campsite platform. We enjoyed our time on the kayak trail, but will probably not do a repeat. I do, however, recommend it, just for the experience alone.

Easy trip from Northwest Houston. The park has a nice combination of marsh and seashore for long walks away from the city. Be aware of the season as we unfortunately experienced a lot of mosquitoes, horse flies and saw many rats (not shy) by the campsite during a short visit in May. Not as bad by the beach.
