It was our first time visiting the Wheelhouse. Our server was named David. He was amazingly attentive and very friendly. The food was amazing. Highly recommend the spinach dip and the southwest burger. The beer is so cold, and the drinks are perfectly proportioned. I had 2 old fashioned that were some of the best Ive had in a long time. I can not say enough great things about this place. The view is lovely, even packed, Its still comfortable to sit, eat, and converse. Go! Try it all. The sweet potato fries wereprobably my favorite thing of all. Please remember to tip your server and bar tender.

My husband moved to the area almost a year ago and this place has been on my list to visit. We finally made it and were celebrating his birthday. The last two years a group of friends celebrate our birthdays here. On Thursday we visited. The food was off, several things but what got us was when one of our friends ordered the chicken/sausage pasta dish, which she had previously and loved but this time it had little flavor. When asked if it could be exchanged for another dish the manager came over and said it could not be exchanged as they did not make a mistake in how it was made. He wouldn t exchange it or take it off the ticket. He was asked, are you willing to lose customers over not exchanging this item. He said, yes I am, it is our policy to not exchange or take off an item we deem made correctly . Even though everyone complained. She literally had nothing to eat but had to pay. I can t express how disheartened we were by this exchange and attitude. It s not that we asked for everything to be taken off, just the one dish to be exchanged. We have plans to bring a group to The Pompano in December but with this representation we are struggling with the idea of doing this. I hope this policy changes. Our waiter Matthew was wonderful.

Always enjoy The Neches River Wheelhouse. Great service, great food, great atmosphere. There was karaoke tonight. The local bands that play are just really cool for almost all ages. A lot of oldies are played on certain nights, which adds to the atmosphere. We had salad tonight, good selection for health conscious eating. I had the seafood salad... Amazing with the blue cheese bits in it. My wife had the Cesar Salad with chicken. David was an excellent server, very energetic and a pleasure to talk with on quite a few topics and also met all our needs. Thank you David! The Neches River Wheelhouse is such a local favorite and had been here 10 years in Port Neches. Keep it up Wheelhouse!

Our Sunday night visit was fabulous. We had shrimp & grits, fried pickles, and Southwest burger. For dessert-churro fried sundae. Service was excellent. There was indoor or outdoor seating. If you wanted an alcohol beverage, they probably could make it. We ll be back. The atmosphere and food are worth revisiting.

I kept hearing about this place since we moved here a couple years ago and we finally got a chance to go. Everything seemed good while we were waiting to be seated and then our waitress arrived behaving very dry and not very attentive. We ordered our food and I cannot say the food was anything to say wow to. Our food was bland and I had to add alot of salt and pepper into it but it didnt really help much. We ate and didnt complain (at least we experienced it). As we were leaving we were admiring the place on how beautiful the view was and just the details if the place but when, my brother and law and teen kids went to the outside bar to wait while my husband and I showed our toddlers the water a guy I would think was the manager raced over ( not even playing it off as if we they were going to steal something from the bar.(he didnt ask anything just stared) we walked out feeling uncomfortable after that so thanks but no thanks for returning to this place.

Such great atmosphere at the Neches River Wheelhouse. Outdoor dining overlooking the water in a well thought out space. Our service was excellent through our visit. Drinks were really good, recommend the frozen mimosa and sangria. Shrimp and grits were the winner at our table and a must order there. Fried catfish was great but sides with it were marginal. Also loved the seafood nachos as a starter. Live music was excellent and added to the overall atmosphere. Great evening and would recommend.

I have gone on three different occasions, and the first night was good because we sat near the kitchen with an actual waitress, but for the second and third time, it was during trivia. No waitress is there, so you have to go to the bar to order. Requested no dairy and received my food with dairy both times. Had to wait a long time for food. They dont give you drinks, napkins, or silverware by the bar, I had to get up for that, too, They expect a tip. Hmmm, it seems to me I was the waitress. I only go for company and would rather eat somewhere else.

Excellent establishment for lunch. We were there with several friends after my husbands retirement ceremony (48 years in the Coast Guard). Food was outstanding, Service was excellent...I gave 4 stars for atmosphere as I had a bird dive bomb my head twice while eating, but when you go to a restaurant that is open to the Air and on the water.... its to be expected. Parking: I was in a wheelchair and there were plenty of spaces available for me to be in.

Great Atmosphere, Great Service, Average Entree. Overall, just ok. Prompt and friendly service. Prices are reflected in the Menu due to the location. I ordered the Crawfish Pistolettes and they were delicious! The main course was Redfish with dirty rice and green beans. The Redfish was small and just ok. No WoW factor here. . Dirty rice was dry and Green beans were not seasoned at all. Not coming back at these prices. Neches River Wheelhouse needs to improve IMHO.

The foods is fantastic! We drive from Orange just for dinner! Great for birthday meals, specials occasions or casual dining. Kid friendly with waterfront views of the port, and usually a nice breeze. Take home the Wheelhouse koozie or frisbee! If you havent been here, put it on the list of places to try! Parking: Nice, big parking lot. Kid-friendliness: Let the kids chill out on the lawn while they wait for their mell to come out of the kitchen.

Updated Review: I tried again to eat brunch here when it wasnt really busy at all. We were greeted, seated, handed menus. Then 25 mins passed by and that sums up our trip and all interactions. At least last time I received a salad but no drinks. This time I wasnt even acknowledged at all. No one ever came to our table. Multiple people being seated after us were having their drink orders taken. This has happened both times I attempted brunch there and both times it wasnt even busy. As much as I hate to say it, I think this level of service has caused me to not want to go there at any time. I guess I will wait for more development on the waterfront and hope their restaurants acknowledge my existence while Im there. Previous review: Although our waitress was as polite as could be upon arrival, we never received our drinks, someone else brought out the salad even though it wasn t busy...just overall the worst service I ve ever received here, which is sad because I typically enjoy trips to the Wheelhouse but it looks like those will stop now.

Service was great, but I was there when there was not a crowd. Something about being on the water that makes the Atmosphere perfect. The food was good I ordered the tuna and was scared at first because the waitress asked how I wanted it cooked, probably sounded like a smart butt because I said as it should be, but the cook knew what he was doing because it came out perfect. We had a sampler appetizers and it was average for what the cost was, just stick to the chips and spinach dip. All in all I will go back if I am in the area.

Great evening with friends on the water at the Wheelhouse. We got there before it got too crowded and ordered promptly. With just a little bit of wait, out came some delightful dishes. 2017: Best Bloody Mary I have ever had! Very good food. Cant wait to go back! 2019 Update: The gumbo is literally the best I have ever had and I have never had a bad experience with the servers. All around a really great, clean place with a relaxed atmosphere. 2024 Update: Im so sad about the recipe of the gumbo changing. It used to be so good, but its clear that NOW the roux comes out of a jar, a can, or a bag. Its really gross. The chicken, sausage, and rice are still the same but thats not what makes gumbo gumbo. Its all about that roux and unfortunately Wheelhouse started cutting corners big time. When we lived in Nederland, we ate here once a week. Then moved to Houston and it became less frequent, but I still used to travel from Houston for this gumbo. After today, I will never be back again :(

Stopped while traveling from Louisiana. Nice atmosphere, waiter was very kind and attentive. Food was a little bland, but that may just be my cajun tastebuds. We had seafood nachos, and there was plenty of seafood on it. Also had cheese sticks and fried green tomatoes. Cheese sticks were very thick. Tomato was small. Their ranch is delicious.

I have my own rating system. 6 stars: Presidential Service 5 stars: Top Notch Service 4 stars: It was straight 3 stars: Ok 2 stars: 1 stars: I need to bypass the manager and speak to the owner. Gabby & Kelsey As soon as we walked in Gabby & Kelsey greeted us with amazing customer service. We sat at the bar while our table was being prepared. While we waited they engaged us in conversation and menu recommendations. Overall fun and detailed orientated. They made amazing drinks!!! Mario Was our customer service attendant He commanded the area like a point guard. Never worried about drinks running dry. Personality and kindness was top tier. We had a big party and it was nothing to him as we watched him do that to multiple tables. CodFather Was a huge sandwich, really good and fresh the fries was golden and crisp. Definitely will order that again. Drinks: Rumbalaya & Crown Apple/Coke First time having the Rumbalaya (Cruzan Coconut Rum, Bacardi Superior, Pineapple Juice, Orange Juice, Grenadine, Myers Dark Rum. Great flavors and taste great.

Im from NW Indiana, and we were traveling through Port Neches We asked for a place to eat. They suggested the Wheelhouse. To me & my wife , this was fantastic. Great views, outdoor settings, and food were terrific . Place I highly recommend. Will tell my friends if they want to do something different, come here. Well done, Wheelhouse. owners

Seems like a fun atmosphere. We werent expecting live music on a Sunday afternoon. It was a little loud but we survived. Service was good. Food was good other than the fried oysters being over cooked. Tuna definitely needs a sauce. I asked for some lemon butter which it needed. Was not omg good. We will try something different next time.
