My husband went to Todd Shapiro a few years ago with help for a DWI, he completely bailed on him the day of his court date and had some random attorney who my husband had never met before to tell him to plead guilty. They basically railroaded him and coerced him into plead guilty.

Though I am certain Mr. Shapiro was a great attorney at one time, in my experience, it was very frustrating working with him. Mr. Shapiros responses were slow, emails were not read and/or responded to in a timely manner and/or responded to in a why are you bothering me kind of way. I first contacted him in November 2023 and it took longer than needed to complete the divorce due to lack of follow-up, and he did not help with the collection of the monies awarded to me in the divorce settlement. Left me high and dry and asking for more money. My divorce was finally completed in October but not without error and oversight and without collecting the settlement monies. His first paralegal that I worked with apparently left shortly after I signed on with Mr. Shapiro. His second paralegal is EXCELLENT (5-stars for her) and she was the only reason I did not fire Mr. Shapiro early on. All in all though I am very disappointed in Mr. Shapiros work and his lack of interest in my case, and we never could quite get on the same page--and maybe this was intentional on his part since he wanted things done his way only. Still trying to collect the settlement monies from my ex-wife and have consulted with other attorneys and finding the same lack of interest so my opinion of attorneys at this point are very low. This is the one and only time I ever needed an attorney so hopefully I will never need one again, other than one to help collect the settlement monies!

Peter, the lawyer there is incompetent. Bad legal advice and no accountability. Yelling and screaming at me as a client is unacceptable. My friend was charged with aggravated robbery with a firearm in Dallas County Court, it was a Class A Felony. I explected Howard to be MY attorney, but all he kept telling me is that he didnt want to hear what i had to say about the mother of our grandson with whome we have had joint custody of since 2016 and we raised beginning at birth. Howard kept telling me to let her have full custody and we take the 1st. 3rd and 5th week. i explained to him how much our grandson did not want to be with her but he kept saying he did;nt want to hear what i had to say about anything. Also the judge we were going to see was an attorney from their office. Howard cancelled and changed a couple appointments and one was for us to talk to the judge with our grandson, but he had to go golfing... that was more important than this child. I finally had enough of his negativity towards us that i told him to tell her attorney she can have her money back because all she cares about is herself and money. that same day he called me back and sounded so suprised that she agreed. If you want an attorney to be on your side and listen to you and fight for you, it is not Howard Shapiro.. we are out $11,000. and go nowhere. When we go back, it wont be with this office. Golfing and the other party more important than taking our case and fighting for our grandson.

Peter Ganyard of the Ganyard Law firm is a fabulous lawyer. He literally saved me and mother from the poor legal advice of the very stereotypically pompous, rude, condescending, arrogant, haughty, patronizing, and ill-informed Todd Shapiro (who I believe is Peter s assistant, judging by his incredibly rude behavior and lack of knowledge). Thankfully, Mr. Peter Ganyard is not only experienced, but also has the social skills that Todd lacks completely. My mother and I nearly walked out of our initial meeting after being disrespected and insulted repeatedly by the assistant, Todd Shapiro, but Mr. Ganyard was able to win back our trust after kicking his assistant Todd out of the room. He offered us the humility, kindness, understanding, as well as the thorough explanations/guidance, that Todd was too full of himself to provide in a respectful manner. And we are SO glad we hired Mr. Ganyard, not Todd, to represent my case. Working with Todd would have been a nightmare. I would give Mr. Peter Ganyard a full five stars, and I am only deducting one star from this review due to the incredibly unprofessional behavior of Mr. Ganyard s socially inept, self-important assistant, Todd Shapiro. I personally think Mr. Ganyard should fire his assistant (Todd), and get someone on his level to work with him. Mr. Peter Ganyard single-handed my represented my case, and he did a fantastic job, as he was successful at rightfully proving my innocence in court. If you don t believe me, please read The New Jim Crow, by US civil rights lawyer Michelle Alexander. Prisons ARE a profit scheme in the US, and the poor are being exploited. As a history teacher, I sincerely hope we can change this terrible system so that there is one day justice for ALL, not just the rich. I know that Peter Ganyard understands the flaws of the US legal system, as we have discussed this topic at length. I see the honesty in his spirit, and I appreciate that he does not dig his head in the sand when discussing the flaws of the US legal system. Mr. Ganyard is authentic, and he tells it like it is. Mr. Ganyard, I hope you are able to use your position of power within this system to challenge its unfairness. I know you value truth and justice as much as I do. Thank you for being one of the few lawyers in the US I can sincerely vouch for and trust. Todd is a good lawyer and I would highly recommend him. He represented me in 2021. I was indicted on 8 charges consisting of drugs and guns. He was able to get 4 of them dropped and get my time reduced from the initial offer of 15 years to 4 years. I went through 2 lawyers before Todd and they were not able to get the time reduced. I was incarcerated for 2 years and made parole. After seeing first hand other situations and outcomes I have no doubt in my mind Todd got me the best deal possible. Howard Shapiro is an attorney you can t trust. Communication was horrible, paralegal Lisa does not own up to her mistakes, and to top it off they literally didn t have to do anything on my case after all. I obtained their services on a Friday. 3 days later I called to informed them( spoke to Lisa) I had gotten a lump sum from the attorney general for back pay.. I told her I am not sure I would need your services after all to collect the remaining child support. But that I have another child support case I may want to transfer my retainer if that s possible. Lisa stated well I haven t drawn any paper work or file anything as I wasn t sure if I needed to file in Colin County or Dallas County. I was like ok great can you check if maybe I could that? She said Howard would not be in but he was supposed to check in and would ask him than. Now this point I had only spoken to Howard once for 10mins. He just called to ask me if my case was still active in Dallas County or Collin County. Two more days passed and I received another lump some from the attorney general. Lisa nor Howard had not called me back so I went to the office to inform Lisa I wouldn t need their services after all since I had received what I was owed. I asked since no paper was ever really drawn or filed could I get my retainer back? She said well I m not sure that is up to Howard. At this point she was like oh ok. Days pass and still no word. I go again to the office and she said he is not in but would let me know. After about a week and half I get $4000 back and a made up invoice for $1000 for Howard services and Lisa. all I can say is KARMA will find you DO NOT USE THIS FIRM PS never met Howard in person at all!

Todd Shapiro, hands down is the premier offensive attorney to hire to defend the rights of the innocent. In 1895, the presumption of innocence legal principle was enacted establishing the innocence of persons accused of crimes until proven otherwise in a court of law; which is the opposite system of a presumption of guilt. Having been on the opposite side of a case with Howie, I was very happy he was representing the other party. Although another attorney in his office did most of the work. Howie seemed befuddled during the hearing and was repeatedly saying This is the first I m hearing of it judge which was probably true but he tried to spin it as it was last minute issue being raised. I got the impression he looked at case file just before hearing for the first time. Oh and during recesses in zoom hearings he doesn t turn mute on so he ll blab out confidential info he thinks nobody can hear. I highly recommend him as an opposing counsel. . Be warned, these guys are very unethical. I went with my GF to see about hiring Todd Shapiro to defend her from a baseless felony charge in Collin County. Todd presented a worse-case scenario and so we agreed to hire him initially. He requested $10k, which I paid via my credit card. My GF never signed an engagement letter or any contract with Todd. Within days, we found out that the charge had been dismissed, however when we contacted Todd in order to get our money back, he refused to discuss the matter. My credit card company reversed the charge, however after Todd sent a threatening letter to them, the re-instated the charge. So bottom line is that I am out $10k and Todd worked less than 4 hours in total. DO NOT USE SHAPIRO unless you want to get ripped off.

I was given Howards name as a referral from another attorney I had used for something else, and the Shapiro Law Firm did not let me down. Both Howard Shapiro and Lisa Jones were always quick to respond to my inquiries regarding my case, (even often on nights or weekends), and they both went out of their way to make sure I was always happy with the decisions I/we made. I was so glad to have their legal advice throughout this case, because they definitely gave me a perspective I hadnt thought of. Thanks to them, I didnt feel stressed even during days sitting with Howard in mediation or court. I was pleased that even after settlements were reached, they continued to follow up to make sure everything was taken care of. In review of the bills, I believe the fees were definitely fair. I had prepaid a significant amount and I am expecting a refund of nearly half.

Howard Shapiro: Dishonest billing practices, lack of communication, poor representation. Had to fire him. (see edit below for my response to the owners response) BILLING: His contract uses deceptive language to trick you into thinking the fee arrangement is something other than what it is. He does this by using language that most people assume is a typical retainer fee agreement (where any balance of funds will be returned upon completion of the case), but he buries a few lines of legalese in the contract that ensures he keeps all fees even if the case is settled quickly. This incentivizes him to do the bare minimum necessary to get a settlement (or possibly dismissal) so he can keep the entire balance of the retainer with as little effort as possible. POOR REPRESENTATION: Because of the billing structure, Howard was giving me poor legal advice and capitulating to opposing counsel at every step. Additionally, he did not review documents and submitted documents to the court that stalled the case and entered me into bad legal arrangements that any high-integrity lawyer would have never allowed. This dereliction of duty alone cost me thousands of dollars during my case. Also, he was never prepared for meetings and didnt know basic facts about my case. LACK OF COMMUNICATION: If you hire him, be prepared to be ghosted for weeks at a time. I had to email and call multiple times over several weeks before I would get a response. SUMMARY: If you still want to hire Howard, make sure you read the entirety of the contract. He will try to pressure you into signing it on the spot using car salesman-like tactics. I recommend avoiding this law firm entirely and going with a more honest and reputable law firm for you family law matters. Edit: It is clear that if you look carefully through the reviews on this site and others relating to family law matters, there is a pattern of complaints about deceptive billing, lack of professionalism, and overall poor representation, especially as it pertains to Howard. I felt obligated to warn readers what they will encounter if they hire Howard. My only grudge is that I unfortunately had to terminate Howard for very poor representation. A lawyer should be transparent with fees and always advocate for his or her client.

Sat down with someone for a free consultation (sorry cant remember his name!) and explained our situation. Despite it being a free consult, he took the time to listen to everything and explain everything to us. He also gave us 2 options to proceed with (one being hiring him to help us take care of it or taking care of it ourselves). He actually recommended that we do it ourselves and save money rather than wasting it for an attorney. He gave us advice and we went on our way. Working with the team of Shapiros, l would have thought my son and I would have been somewhat intimated. Mr Shapiro was very frank with my son. Certainly not in these words, ,whens the last time you parttook? Yesterday he replied, Mr Shapiro are you an idiot??) It was said one time in just a conversational voice, My son responded yes sir I think I might be. The mom cant help you now thing had just hit us square in the eye. After discussing the case in what was only the initial meeting, we walked out with more of a sense of calm and collection, valuable information that will keep my son out of trouble now, but in the future as well. Now Im scheduling with the other Mr Shapiro. They both come very highly recommend by many, including his fellow attorneys as well as private investigators and law enforcement.
