Walk in its small, dead and food sucks. The potatos have no flavor and are over cooked while at the same time the onions and bell peppers and undercooked. The biscuits are left in a spot where they steamed the top and wrinkled up, they are doughy and chewy. The gravy is just a cream gravy. Paid 3.29 for a sweet tea and never got offered a refill. The tea was very good so its a shame I never got more. The oatmeal is a bowl of water basically. The best part was the fresh fruit even with the watermelon rinds. Oh and it smells weird

The food is good, no issues. Im posting one star simply due to the fact the server DID NOT tell me substituting an item will cost extra. I did not want meat with my eggs and asked her what can I substitute with. She replied you can get fruits instead. When I went to pay my bill (they dont bring it to the table youve to go to the counter) it was more than i thought but chalked it away thinking taxes etc. I didnt question and added tip. But once she gave me itemized bill I saw the fruit was charged extra. Now that Ive hovered my card no point in asking whys and hows so Im leaving this review and hope the restaurant sees this. Do better, please let customers know theres an extra charge for substitution which doesnt make sense but whatever. Also lesson learned to ask the restaurant if theyll charge for substituting an item.

I eat here frequently, usually once a week. I have eaten a fair amount of what is on the menu and every thing has been great. They may have the single best mashed potatoes Ive ever eaten. Their fried steak, hambuger steak, and meatloaf are my favorites. The fried steak is hand breaded and perfect. Everything is handmade and delicious. The people are super nice and pleasant to deal with and the prices are more than fair. Probably my favorite place to eat in Plano. If you havent eaten here, youre missing out.

My friend ordered the eggs benedict and he said the holiday sauce was very good and I ordered the Philly cheesesteak that came with and again very good! I went on a Sunday and they closed at 2:30 I dont know the schedule for the rest of their week. I will recommend Johns Cafe to friends and family and I will definitely be returning.

Ok, where do I start? It s located in a little strip mall. Huge signs of their food on their windows set your expectations high. You walk into this tiny foyer that had a weird smell. I tried not to think about it and opened the door to the dining space. For a Sunday brunch, it wasn t crowded at all. That should have been my first warning, but didn t give heed to it. We sat ourselves in a booth and the waiter immediately came with menus. The place looked like it was owned by Hispanics so we decided to go with the Latin inspired breakfast items.I ordered huevos rancheros. The coffee and water came out. The coffee was watered down and tasteless. My coffee at home tastes 100x better. My child s burger came out and she loved it. My husband had a taste of it too and said it did taste pretty good. Finally our burrito and huevos rancheros came out. The huevos rancheros looked absolutely gross. But I thought, let s give it a taste no seasoning at all anddd to make it worse there was some sort of water at the bottom of my plate where they laid the tortillas down. I thought the tortillas were just supposed to be on the side, which they were. Salsa tasted and looked like it came out of store bought jar. Needless to say I ate a couple more bites of it because I was hungry. My husband s burrito was decent but it too was lacking seasoning. Maybe their waffles and pancakes are better? Our food was definitely not worth it.

Pleasantly surprised by the inside despite the exterior facade. Uncongested and uncluttered inside without other patrons breathing down ones back with loud voices. Had soft conversations because there be was negligible clatter inside. Good choices for breakfast for those not seeking pretentious gourmet priced victuals. Would have preferred a better ratio of soft versus crisp hash browns but it is always a good experience to sample the establishments preferences. Good options for those with dietary restrictions. Would have preferred the omelettes to be a tad more fluffy than flat. The fillings were not over indulged, permitting us to bite into crisp veggies. A bit surprised that cheese choices were limited to American and Cheddar omitting other popular varieties. Coffee cups were regularly replenished.

I usually go to hot pancakes up the road but thought I d try someplace new since their prices went up. Wow this place is not good. I walked in to pick up my take out breakfast and the place was empty. That s when I knew my food might not be great. Got home. None of it is fresh except the eggs I ordered over medium. Food is cold. Bacon is soggy. Home fries look days old and biscuit looks like it was cooked days ago and doesn t taste much better. If you want stale soggy food reheated from days ago then go here for breakfast. I gave 2 star instead of 1 because maybe they are busier on the weekends and serve fresh food. But up to you if you want to take that chance. Definitely regret this decision but hey I d never know it was terrible unless I tried it. The pics really don t capture the sogginess and staleness but they do a bit.

This is a all mom and pop style resturaunt. The waitress was nice. I asked for hot tea. Most places have option of black tea. Not here. Green tea only. I requested half a cup of decaf and the hot water she brought with the green tea. She still charged me for the green tea. I ordered crepes with a side of hash browns. My food was delicious. My husband ordered 3 meats, eggs and biscuit with gravy. He had corn beef hash on the side. He said his was good except for the biscuit and gravy. The biscuit was so so. The gravy tasted like flour. Thats it. Just wet flour. The sales receipt gave a suggested gratuity ranging from 25% to 45%! Man...I would leave a 5 star review for a 25% tip. As far as I know. Standard rate is 15%. If I get good service,18%. Best service is 20%.

Food here was horrible. I got the hungry man breakfast which comes with bacon eggs hash browns sausage and pancakes. I was really craving the pancakes so it was the first thing I tried. They were cold and dry. As soon as I put my fork in them I knew they were cold. I took a bite and I was absolutely correct. You can definitely tell they use water in the pancakes instead of milk and butter. Next thing I tasted was the eggs, I mean how can you mess up eggs, so that s clearly a given. The sausage had a very distinctive taste that I didn t like, the bacon was over cooked, and the hash browns taste like they were cooked in grease that was at least a week old. Only reason why I ate it was because I was starving, but will never come back even if they did offer the 50% off. If Gordon Ramsay came in here and ate, he would definitely spit it out.

Stopped by today a little after lunch. I have been here several times but this was the first in several years. They have a great menu with a lot of options, so I decided to get something simple since I had trouble making a decision. I went with a Chef Salad with a bowl of fresh fruit. I wasn t disappointed. A lot of good items in the salad and tasted fresh. The fruit was colorful and also tasted fresh. Waitress was very attentive and pleasant. She did a good job especially considering she was the only waitress and hand to man 4-5 tables. I plan to come back soon and order something more adventurous.

The service was slow and not once did our waitress ask us if we needed anything. Our drinks were empty and continued to have to ask for refills. I could understand if the place was busy but we were only one of two tables in the entire restaurant. Our order was missing food, come out incorrectly and overall lacked quality. The pancakes were dry, biscuits came out soggy as if they were frozen and microwaved warm. We were not pleased at all and will not recommend any of our friends or family.

Ever hear of salt and pepper? And the worst was the sausage and gravy. Gravy wasnt bad but did taste like package gravy, but the biscuits were horrible. Frozen biscuits clearly heated in a microwave. They were soggy from being frozen and cooked in the microwave. Average size portions. Unfortunately, not what I was hoping for.

Hands down the freshest home fries Ive had in a long time. Filling portions, frequent coffee refills, and potato chunks with onion & bell pepper that were hot and perfect. A little tricky to pull into if youre traveling eastbound, but two left turns and youre there. Cozy, clean, helpful servers and perfect fuel for a day of work!

Not true at all i am a BIG GUY and Johns portions I can eat breakfast for two days. Keep up the good work guys. There is always going be haters out there.

First......this rating is solely based off the food and the service!! I thoroughly enjoyed the soft scrambled eggs, turkey bacon, hash browns were cooked to perfection and the pancakes were nice and hot. My wife was happy to find that the Huevos Rancheros with Sunnyside Up eggs with corn tortillas were cooked just as she likes. The speed of service was prompt and our server was attentive. Now for the establishment.....the decor has been updated from years past, but the smell of the aging building and refrigeration system is almost such a turn off that I was close to walking out without ordering. I have come to Johns for more than 7 years and I can truly say this visit was one that really stood out with reference to the odor. Please fix this major component of your business and I am sure you will see your old patrons return!!

Johns is one of go-to places for breakfast in South Plano near Cityline. They are also open for lunch with American and Mexican choices. I enjoy the home fried potatoes and biscuits and gravy. Food is tasty and service attentive. Give Johns a try.

Nice little hole in the wall cafe. Had catfish with a few sides. The fish was good, but the fried okra was overcooked. Almost burnt. Wait staff was attentive and friendly. Good place for a quick work lunch, but wouldnt take the family here for dinner.

Dont know if Ill come back. I got there at 7am as a waitress arrived. She unlocked door, went in and locked it back. 7:05 the was no attempt to open up. I left. If you are opening at 7 you should at least be there a half hour before so you can be ready for customers at your posted opening time. Oh yeah... did I mention this is 2nd time Ive had this experience with you? Very disappointing.

Food is a little bland, but served hot. Restaurant seems nice and clean, but dated. Service was good. My biggest issue is the smell. There is a very obvious and distinct chemical odor you are met with when you walk in and sit down. It absolutely permeates all inside. Very distracting. Won t be going back.

Went with high hopes. Left with disappointment all around. Six of us went for breakfast. First people in place. Took almost 25 minutes to get food after we ordered. Did I mention we were the first of for much of that 25 minutes, the only people in the business? Food was good, but very small portions. Seemed more like kid portions. Three of us didnt get our toast until after we finished our meal. After several times of waitress telling us toast was coming, she brought it as another worker was removing our plates. Told her to take the toast with dirty plates. No point in having toast now. Fifteen minutes to get toast. Pricing is very expensive for what you get. 2 eggs, bacon, hash browns, toast (which we didnt get) and coffee was $10.50. We go frequently as a group and try different small diners in area. Johns Cafe is definitely off the list.

This is an amazing place to dine. I ordered the New Yorker sandwich and asked to substitute the rye with a bagel. Roxana made it happen. The price is fair for the amount of food you get. I highly recommend this place. Its small but the food wont disappoint.
