Updating this review. Originally I gave this place 5 stars but over time each I have gone since the food has been getting worse. I had stopped going for a long time but decided to give them another chance. I could not get passed 2 bites. I usually get cucumber noodles well this time my wife picked up my online order so we didn t see them make it, instead of cucumber noodles I got peels. All skin no actual cucumber. Wtf, how careless can you be to serve someone nothing but peels as the base??? Flavor profile is gone now, they just soak the bowl in sauce and give you a poke soup . Extremely disappointing

I ve been to this location a few times before and this place got me into poke bowls but after this last visit with a younger gentleman and an older box-blonde woman who had a very leisurely demeanor and was not helpful in assisting with my order I will not be returning to this location. I see there is another Makai location in McAllen that may have service better suited for human services.

I saw a post about the wait times, and the business replied with staff shortage. Well I came in today and it looked pretty staffed to me, 3 girls on the front making orders and other employees in the back, they took forever to even start on an order that I had placed ahead of time. One of the girls starts making a bowl for herself pulls out her phone and continues to touch everything without gloves, she even licked her finger by the toppings area and continued to grab. I get impatient so I went back to my car to wait while they started on my order. My phone sent me a notification that it was ready and when get off again to pick it up I noticed there was a whole bowl missing, so I waited AGAIN to have them complete the missing bowl. Horrible experience. I don t even want to get into detail on how order was missing sauces and toppings. I m done visiting this location.

It s unfortunate that this place always takes forever. Doesn t help if you call ahead either. I ve arrived twice and my order hasn t been ready. The food is great, but only come here if you have PLENTY of time to waste. Don t recommend if you only have an hour lunch break. Unfortunately they don t prioritize the customers in store over incoming calls either. Since they only schedule 1 person to make the bowls and take the calls, you have to wait until they hang up for them to take your order.

While the food was good. I warn one to check the price they are charged as what is reflected on the board is lower than the price at the register. The poor girl waiting on me could only say the prices recently changed and the board has not been updated. Not a good business practice. I won t return to Makai.

This place is amazing! The healthy options are delicious. The staff is very nice and the establishment is clean. The environment is very intimate. I would definitely recommend Makai for anyone opting for a healthier lifestyle. Vegetarian options: Although they do have meat and fish, they have a decent amount of vegetables and some fruits.

Always a hit. Awesome service and the Makua poke is amazing.... Update: This place has gone downhill for me. Went yesterday. Last 2 times Ive went, the brown rice has been hard (barely cooked) and my order has been wrong. The sweet and hot Brussel sprouts were a miss also. I got 3 or 4 full sprouts and the rest were leaves sitting in half a bowl of sugar water. Not worth the price. What a shame. I loved this place. Im done with Makai

Very unsanitary. Ive had 2 bad experiences. The 2nd time the girl who made my bowl put raw salmon in my bowl i did advise her i wanted it cooked so she proceeds to grab the RAW salmon out of my bowl with her hands (she was wearing gloves) with the same gloves she grabs everything else even my chips to put in my bowl. CROSS CONTAMINATION !!!! Thats so unsanitary. Very Disapointing these young girls are not TABC certified im certain.

First time here and upon arriving to the establishment we were unsure if it was open because the OPEN sign was not turned on. However, I was able to see lights barely on through the dark tinted glass. As we entered we let the cashier know that the light was not on to which she just said okay and then served our meal. As far as food, the rice was not fully cooked. I had some rice that was edible, but the rest was hard as rice is when it s not cooked. Further, the portion size of protein was slightly smaller than other poke restaurants. The topping were also very limited as the girl mentioned they ran out. I believe there was a total 12 toppings and about 6 were empty/sold out. By the end of our meal the OPEN sign was still off which made sense why the place was dead. This is at 6:45 on a Tuesday where traffic is high in this area. My partner was disappointed in the lack of communication skills, dragging feet, and failure to turn on sign. He is a owner of an establishment and felt for the owner as he turned the OPEN sign as we walked out. May give this restaurant another chance, but the individual who was running the store has a negative impact on this establishment.

I went there for the very 1st time. There was only one person ahead of me but the The clerk working there was very rude, spoke on her phone while attending the person ahead of me, and took a long time to take and prepare his order. I only had a limited time to pick up some food for take out, so I chose to go next door to another restaurant.. When I got my food to go from that other restaurant, the the person in front of me was still waiting on his food. I had heard great things about this place but when there is bad customer service, I will always choose to go elsewhere.

This is the second time I go past 7:30 PM and they literally kick me out. The two ladies working that shift are not very customer service friendly. They also re-use product. I asked for rice and they were pouring out rice from another bowl in the back and pouring it into mine. My husband and I love their food, but today I was very disappointed.

Food was savory until the end. Had my tastebuds tingling every bite I took. I highly recommend this place if you re looking to shake things up when you re out to lunch or simply wanna grab a casual bite. The ingredients were fresh and the staff was well organized. 10/10
