John is an amazing, efficient, practical, and compassionate attorney. It took me awhile to pull the trigger and actually file for divorce and then to finalize it, but John was there for me every step of the way, never rushed me, and was ready to go as soon as I was for each step of the process. I am a completely different woman from the one who was sobbing in the initial consultation, feeling so hopeless. John is one of the most professional lawyers I have worked with. He handled my divorce case and would have represented both myself and my ex-wife in a fair and honest manner. She decided to go with her own lawyer and choose a larger law firm with multiple lawyers and soon found out they did nothing but cost money. Hindsight she wishes she would have had John as her lawyer as well. He was always fair, listens, communicates and gives feedback when asked. He is a great mediator as well, very knowledgeable and keeps you informed where the case is. If you need a divorce lawyer well, you wont find one better than John.

I had an experience in a civil divorce case in which I was held in contempt. John Powell represented me in this case and we took it to the Texas appellate court and do to the letter of the law and John s extensive knowledge of the law and his immaculate articulation in law language, the Texas appellate court found John s argument to be true and factual and had no other recourse but to sustain our argument. The only thing I wish I knew was that he charges for each email. I was unaware, and would have been very picky about what I sent. It makes sense that he charges for any of his time. Last year I filed for a revision to my original order due to changing circumstances. Mr. Powell and I met and reviewed my existing order and what changes I was wanting to accomplish. He created a plan of action and we proceeded. The first obstacle to overcome was that my original case was in another city, so that presented problems of its own. Mr. Powell did what he thought was best and connected me with another attorney to help in that city to get the case transferred, she did an amazing job as well. Once the case was back in Brazoria Mr. Powell and his staff took time and patience with me and my long process. In the end myself, my former spouse, and our daughter were all very happy by our final outcome. Mr. Powell openly informed me that my case could take a lot of time, and it did (10 months) , and it could also be a long shot but with continual communication we were able to come to the best resolution any family could ask for; 50/50. Our daughter was our primary focus on this revision, not what was best for myself and not what was best for her father but what was best for HER. When divorcing parents try to smear one another no one wins, and especially not the child. Mr. Powell always helped keep our daughters interest in the forefront and because he did that and didnt sugar coat anything, we were able to all end up HAPPY! HAPPY should be everyones goal especially when a child is involved in a divorce. I have recommended Mr. Powell since he first took time out to meet me a few years ago before retaining his service simply on a consultation meeting and I will continue to recommend him. His firm is honest, kind and down to earth, Mr. Powell has truly changed our lives and we will be forever grateful!

I have been through one of the nastiest divorces on record. The actual divorce process lasted over 2 1/2 years. I am finally divorced and my ex is still fighting me for custody!! She is on her 3rd attorney and her 3rd attempt to destroy my relationship with my children. I have stuck with John the entire time because, quite frankly, there have been times where his logic and reasoning skills were the only things saving my sanity!!! I have been witness to him successfully reasoning with the unreasonable!!! I hired John Powell III on June of 2013 for child custody. Talk about a lasting experience, Im just now reviewing and still remember one of the biggest mistake Ive ever made. A lot of the documents he gave me were late, his staff lost my documents and finally after thousands of dollars going down the drain, he sent me a motion of withdraw after spending over $4000 with him. I had to find another attorney in the middle of my case, which costed me dearly. Went with Kaiggen Law & Associates and what a difference it was. Dont put your legal battles or money in line with this firm.

John Powell was incredibly rude, unprofessional and condescending. He overbilles and gets his fragile ego bruised when you ask for an explanation. He is negligent and lazy. I had a horrible experience with this lawyer and it was a huge waste of my time and money. Typical lawyer who wants to collect fees and not do the work. He does not update you on the status of your case and is one of those men who naturally still thinks that women are not equal. His tone and arrogance is off putting. I can only imagine what his wife has to deal with daily.
