Odessa Regional Medical Center

About the Company

rating: 4.1

It's no wonder Odessa Regional Medical Center has a 5-star rating for maternity care, considering it began as a women's and children's hospital in 1975. Since then, ORMC has become a leading provider of comprehensive healthcare services. The hospital now offers sophisticated procedures like heart surgery, and is home to the most advanced medical technology available today. ORMC has evolved over the years, but one thing hasn't changed-the hospital still offers the same family-friendly atmosphere and personal attention that patients have trusted for over forty years.

Next time will try Medical Center Hospital! Super slow paced and it looks like they dont care at all about patients! I guess they do used to seeing people that they just dont care

Horrible experience will NOT be returning here again! My dad was transferred here from a rural hospital due to stroke symptoms and needing further imaging and be in a hospital where there are specialists such as a cardiologist and neurologist if needed. When we got to the ER the NP that was there Saturday night thought it wasn t an emergency or urgent enough to get an MRI of his head Saturday night or because it wasn t an emergency given all of my fathers medical problems! My father than got upset mind you he was still slurring and couldn t feel his right side much. He told the NP if she didn t think the MRI was urgent he would just leave AMA and go to Midland Memorial for further examination. The NP walks out the door goes to the nurse station then comes back to the room and all of a sudden they re able to get the MRI done Saturday night and admitted him to the 4th floor. When the radiology technician comes to get my father for the MRI she made a comment stating they didn t want to order the MRI since it was the weekend and the doctor did not want to come in and wanted to wait until Monday like ummm okay great choice!! For the most part the nurses were great, but there were a few that would just open the door without knocking or introducing themselves. My dad was also not offered to shower until Monday mind you he was admitted since Saturday night. Also the housekeepers were extremely rude and nasty! Sunday morning she knocked on the door then opened it and asked if it was okay for her to clean the room but did not introduce herself we then said yes of course. She started by taking out the trash and putting new bags in the trash cans, then she proceeded by moping here and there. Mind you when we got here Saturday night the floor in the room was extremely dirty trash everywhere especially by the wall and corners. The bathroom was not cleaned either other than the trash taken out and mopped ..

This is by far the WORST hospital I ve ever been to. It used to be decent. I waited over 4 hours for the doctor to say I don t know what s wrong with you.. could be covid but we don t have tests for that. Just go take a nasal spray .. when I m not even congested. It had nothing to do with my nose or congestion. They didn t even give me paperwork just told me to leave. I didn t even do anything to justify being treated like I was. They just seemed like they rushed everyone instead of actually caring. I heard several other people complaining about the level of care they received but at least the doctor gave them stuff to feel better. I ve had some bad hospital experiences in my life but this one definitely takes the cake.

I was scheduled for my elective c-section at this hospital and to be very honest I was terrified because of the reviews. I know everyone will have a different experience. I can say that my experience at this hospital was great. It was very warm and welcoming. Dr. Pill of course is the best OB in town. I knew I was in good hands. The anesthesiologist, James, was very easy to talk to. He treated me like a human being and not just another patient. He talked me through everything he was doing and what to expect in the OR room. He even cracked jokes that put me at ease during the surgery. I felt really safe in his hands. All the nurses were very kind and encouraging! All the staff involved in my care and my newborn s were wonderful! Definitely recommend!

If I could I d put 0 stars.. my husband was in the hospital a few weeks ago. They must not train the housekeepers correctly on how cleans room, or they really don t care. The bed still have blood on it. The he blood was everywhere but n the bed.. I let one of the nurses know and she changed us to another room that it also had blood on the bed. They changed us to another room and it didn t have any running water!! They cleaned one of the other rooms supposedly everything was fine but no it still had blood. So I called for the housekeeping managers and explained to her what went on and she just looked at me and told me they were under staffed but that she would let all them know to do better!! It was bad..Plzz everyone check y all s bed before anything..I have pictures of the blood on the beds!! It wasn t just a little spatter..

I cannot say the same about the people who took her by ambulance to the hospital, terrible treatment, I did not expect racism from someone who is supposed to be a professional even if he is only a paramedic, they are the first people to attend to your emergency and they are not you need derogatory treatment

First time in the hospital for my husbands surgery and it was a bad experience. The entire hospital has a bad smell, the cafeteria closes at 1 pm super early, and the nurse that we got (Norma Jean) wasnt professional and talked so low. Couldnt hear anything that she was saying. She would laugh at bad times that werent funny and when my husband was in pain because of her. She would be impatient and just clumsy! Husband got abdominal surgery and she had him in recovery with the bed a few inches above the ground. Tell me why this nurse pushed the button for the bed to lower in a slamming manner, making my husband scream in pain! Then thats when she proceeded to laugh and joke around. Like you literally hurt your patient, whats funny about that? Horrible nurse! Im stupid for not requesting another nurse but it was an in and out type of thing. Not a good experience at all!

A couple of weeks ago, I had to go to the emergency room for an infected cat bite and I wound up having to stay in the hospital a couple of days because the infection was so bad. My arm was all swollen and red, and the pain was excruciating. I had to stay for two and a half days, and all the care that I received from beginning to end was fantastic. All the staff in the emergency room were friendly, courteous and helpful. I had to stay on the fourth floor and all the nurses and technicians were extremely good at what they did. They all treated me with professionalism, patience, and understanding. I was in there the week of the Fourth of July, and Lisa, Rebecca, and Daniella were all exceptionally good. There were more, of course, but those are the only ones whose names I remember. They were all great. I sure appreciated everything they did. I highly recommend this hospital! Nice rooms and nice people.

21 years ago, I was singing the praises of the L&D and postpartum nurses. Today, not so much. And my attorney was contacted yesterday. The way my daughter has been treated and continues to be treated is beyond appalling. I will say that she has had two day time nurses that have been amazing however, the actions of the night nurses casts a more grave shadow. I ve contacted Patient Advocate as well. Her incision from her emergency c-section is bleeding and they don t seem to care. No hot water in the patients rooms for showering, they have to go down by the nurses station?? Why? Denied pain medication so that her blood pressure stays up and they can deny her access to her 8 and 1/2 weeks premature daughter. Premature because the dangers of preeclampsia far outweigh the dangers of delivering early. Then have the audacity to say she isn t trying to bond with her infant. Management - you have created an environment where your nurses have the emotional fortitude of a termite colony. They are there to seek, kill and destroy and that is not ok. They are in one of the most important departments - new life - and they obviously don t understand the assignment. Oh! And I have done my research and found other patients that have been treated the same way so it s a pattern. Not just a random incident. That s why I called my attorney. No more mommas deserve this treatment.

I was born in this hospital and I have worked in this hospital. I used to think it was a great place, but not anymore. I have encountered one of the rudest, arrogant doctors I have ever met at this ER. His name is Dr. Chambers. I went to the ER last year following a MVA that gave me a concussion. I also had some other issues happening, and by chance I had also seen him at an urgent care not long before, and he was the absolute worst. So, because I was concerned about my head, he recognized me, came into my room, asked me if I wanted a CT and that s the only time we interacted. After that visit, he diagnosed me with being an actual hypochondriac, which couldn t be further from the truth. ORMC did nothing when I tried to fix this in my medical record. Well, I recently sustained a shoulder injury. I went to the ER, and met Dr. Choi. He was very short and not empathetic whatsoever. He poked my shoulder a few times and then informed me that my shoulder wasn t broken, the muscle was stretched, and he didn t do ANY kind of work up. After that, I ended up going to my PCP who ordered an x-ray later this past week. Guess what it showed? Early signs of osteoarthritis in right shoulder and acromioclavicular joint with joint space narrowing wi the hypertrophic spurring. The injury is consistent with a rotator cuff tear. Not only did he waste my time, he wasted my money. I won t be returning to ORMC unless I am on my death bed and I d encourage everyone to do the same.

Was in ER 11-23 with excruciating pain. All indications from ER Dr and Nurse pointed to kidney stone which I told them I have had before. Nurse and Dr were great. Doctor from 11-23 visit ordered CT scan and later told me that Radiologist said there was not a stone. Dr gave me treatment for UTI and gastrointestinal bug. Pain would resurface periodically until 1-23 when I returned to the ER. Again admitting, doctors and nurse were great. This was a different doctor than the first visit and he told me he could do his job better with a CT ( second one in 60 days). He also mentioned that I would have the same radiation exposure as some of the people at Hiroshima. I was in terrible pain and agreed to the scan. He later came in and said I had an 8mm stone in the right ureter. I requested a cs of both scans and looked at it on my computer. Granted, I knew the area to look at but I am an untrained person and saw the stone on both scans. This has caused many weeks of horrible pain and could have been addressed two months ago if it had been diagnosed correctly the first time.

She refused to be poked with another needle(I don t blame her) doctor came In trying to argue me down because I m her Guardian . My Child Still Didn t Want To be poked Again ! They Took Blood AGAIN Anyways . We Clearly could have been BETTER off going to Medical Center . Where They Would Have Taken Their Time With My Child And Gotten All The Blood They needed THE FIRST TIME ! If I could give negative stars I would . Claiming to help people but your NURSES are Horrible At Their Careers/Jobs . We will NOT be Coming back here .

I recently had a procedure done here at the hospital, for starters the main entry of the hospital didn t come off very inviting, you can tell the building g is very aged, once inside the staff was great! I was greeted immediately and asked to sign in. The chairs in the waiting area on the first floor are very old and uncomfortable, you can see the buildings age on the interior, on the second floor waiting area the more old furniture, lamps that look like they re from the 80s, stains on the carpet floors, very dirty area. Not exactly inspiring hygiene or cleanliness. Once I was taken to PRE-OP I was greeted by more amazing staff, modern equipment, and reassurance that they had everything ready and in line for my surgery. Staff made me feel safe and comforted me through the whole process. If I phad a choice I would probably pass on this facility next time just cause of how old and dirty the main waiting areas are.

My stay was til 2/15/23 even til the last minute they treated me with care.. if I could rate ORMC with 100 stars they pass it with flying colors... Thank you guys!!

This is usually my go to hospital but today was absolutely awful. My nurse at first was amazing then after that his attitude change. Hours had passed by and we didn t even get checked on Dr Choy does not care and won t let you talk, he rushed in and out. The nurse at the counter literally ate all day and she was cussing continuously. Worst experience ever! Our wait time was over 9 hours!

I gave 3 stars because I can t split it unless I do a separate post, I had mixed experiences today: I went to the Er for abdominal pain, triage nurse was not helpful at all. Checked me in, asked minimal questions walked me to my room and left. Didn t offer a blanket tell me the dr would be in ect. Just walked me back stuck the clip board on the wall and left. However my actual nurse was AMAZING! Her name was Rebecca. She talked to me like a friend and was very helpful. Was gentle with my IV and explained everything to me regarding my care and what was wrong. Registration was rude AF! The lady came to get my information, took my DL and was gone forever! And when they finally returned it, it was a different lady. She walked in told me it would be a $200 deposit which i stated I didn t have until payday, she rolled her eyes said ok and walked out! Glad y all have at least 1 person that cares about the patient! That s Rebecca for being amazing! The rest of them need to work on thier people skills!

Should be no stars. I took my 9 month old baby to the ER tonight. She had a 102.5 fever with trouble breathing. We were there 3 hours. I think she saw a doctor not sure. We saw a nurse 1 time for Tylenol. The respiratory therapist came and sucked out her nose. Then some other nurse came with discharge papers. Not 1 person told us what was wrong. Not 1 time did anyone come to check on her and see how she was doing. No quality of care what so ever. We will never go back to that hospital again. I would rather pay for a private ER.

Went with severe pain and was sent to OB where they did no tests and told me it was round ligament pain. Next day came back with persistent fever and high heart rate. I was septic from a kidney infection and was hospitalized for 4 days. They wouldn t accept my insurance, made me apply for Medicaid in tx, even though I was already in the process of switching. Now I can t reach anybody to have them process my insurance and they sent it all to collections .I m going to have to drive two hours to go in person to get the billing straightened out. One of the most annoying experiences I ve ever had with a hospital.

came over here after sitting at Midland memorial for two hours on two separate occasions. walked into the ER and was in a room within 20 minutes. they started assessing my pain and what I was in for. by midnight I had my diagnosis and surgery time. Want to give a special shout out to Michelle, Cheyenne, and Brandon for making the ER visit bearable. Once I got into my room an got situated I had an amazing nurse named Rachole, she made sure me and my wife were comfortable and taken care of to her fullest capabilities. My IV kept going off throughout the night and no matter how many times I had to call her or Holly in they were pleasant every time. Shout out to my night nurses Rachole and Holly, yall were nothing short of amazing. I cannot forget my daytime nurse as well as my surgeon, Leah, my nurse for everything she did to keep me comfy before and after the surgery to Dr. Shuester my surgeon and the ladies and gentlemen In the surgery room, yall were absolutely amazing and made going under the anesthesia comforting and something I will never forget. thank you ORMC for taking such good care of me and my wife.

Early this morning 10-20-22 my wife had to take my 3 year old daughter to the emergency room for difficulty breathing. The doctor gave my daughter a breathing treatment and told my wife that he would write a prescription for another drug that would help, this was at or about 12:45 a.m and at 02:45 none of the staff had entered the room since the doctor, my wife said the staff could be heard laughing and joking around so my wife went back out there to ask about the other medication. She was told that they were busy and will get to my daughter when they can. At 0300 my wife and daughter walked out with no prescription and 0 acknowledgement. There were no other patients in the ER.

I had surgery on 9/30/22 it was the worse horrific experience from registering to medical staff. That hospital lacks good management. Bottom line would I recommend this hospital?? NOPE! So make my story short after surgery I had a few issues and one was the packing bandages were left inside me. I noticed something not normal called a nurse she pulled them out they had been in there abt 24 hours she said there were no notes or anything stating that bandages were left in. I Can keep going on abt my horrific experience but I think y all get my point, don t trust this hospital

Really enjoyed the care I received at ORMC emergency room. From the front desk to the back with nurses station. Everything was great. The registration nurse was from San Angelo, she was very nice and had a great personality. The charge nurse that saw me in the back was busy due to being understaffing, but the level of care was priority. I greatly appreciate how well I was taken care of especially from the ladies that took my cat scan. They were wonderful. So I rated this hospital a 5 due to the attentiveness and wonderful service. My only critique would be to update facilities. Really dated and could seriously be remodeled.

This was a very overwhelming experience. From the intake clerk to the doctor himself. Very rude and ugly. No compassion for autistic child. My son was scolded several times to quit pacing. Explaining the situation the doctor told me that the rolling stool in my cubicle was rolling by itself and he was trying to avoid an accident. Keeping in mind that my son was pacing in left side of the room just taking another 8 steps and would proceed back. He was very quite and worried about myself. No compassion!!!!!! I was not given any results of my specimens.

There were multiple errors/issues during my appointment beginning with the front desk clerk. When I got to the back (after making me wait and taking others back ahead of me that arrived AFTER me) the orders were entered incorrectly and had to be done again while I stood, wrapped in a small cover, topless. These orders had to be corrected before they could take ANY pictures. THEN they were telling me about how I would receive the results. I asked about my infrasound that had been ordered? Once again, correction ensued as the ultrasound order had not been passed to the back. They had me sit in the waiting area, topless but lightly covered, while they once gain sorted out the issues. At this time, before the ultrasound, I was take back into the mammogram room for additional pictures that were not initially captured the first time I was in there, again, because of the second error on the input of orders. Since they did not know I had an ultrasound ordered, there were pictures they had not taken. Finally ..I m taken back for the infrasound. The ladies in the back were wonderful and very cordial. The issues originated, I believe, from registration and entering of my orders. There were errors all the way through. In my opinion, the tone of the visit was set during registration. She was very short and matter of fact in tone, letting me know my wait was my own fault. She had obtained authorization from my primary insurance. She put my file aside while she registered two other patients and sent them to the back while I waited for her to check my secondary insurance I had brought with me. It felt as if my obstacles during this visit were birthed at the registration desk. I have come here for many years. I will say this was the most challenging visit I ve had.

I have used the facilities at ORMC over the years for various healthcare issues and the staff has always been great. I am giving a 1 star because I often have issues with their billing department. I do not like having to give a 1 star because I do not want to take away from the care my family and I have received, which has been great. However, having to deal with overbilling each time you get a statement and then having the hospital and their billing department give you the run around is beyond frustrating. I have currently been trying to get a bill resolved since Jan. of this year where they charged me for two emergency room visits on the same day like 5minutes apart. The hospital billing department has been no help. I will not go into specifics but this has been an awful experience and it makes me not trust them since it is not the first time I have had issues with billing and I know I am not the only one by a long shot. I am a responsible adult TRYING to pay my bill, but pay what I owe. My warning to everyone is to check your bill closely!!!

I for the most part prefer using ORMC. I took my mom there for years because her Doctor preferences it. So here s the thing, people that are using these facilities are doing so for their health. So most times it s either going to be a scary ordeal or your having a baby, which still can be scary. So why would you but RUDE or people with a flat affect at the reception desk? I am 60 and have just dealt with breast cancer so every visit is a, what do they think they found now moment. Worry and anxiety have set in and then I have to deal with a rude person. WHY? But I have to say most of my interactions with ORMC staff have been good. Thank you for that!!

January 21, 2021 had my son transported to ORMC because he stopped eating the day before and his breathing was not right. The ER doctor, Dr. Kyungho Choi, was rude and basically told me he had 36 patients and didnt have time for my son. He wanted my son to be transferred to El Paso, yes the town where their hospitals are used as meat rooms and no way of survival with COVID. I was against this transfer but Dr. Ortega said that my son needed immediate COVID treatment. I saw my son doing good with the C-Pap. He was awake and knew his surroundings and was alert. During flight a Mason decided that he would intubate my son because of elevation purposes I was denied to fly with my son. When my son got to El Paso, I knew right there and then that he would not recover. My son is 29 years old with Down Syndrome and ORMC failed in treating my son and they always always took care of him up until January 21, 2021. That Dr. Choi made a false report to El Paso in that my son was 2 weeks with COVID; kidney failure; fever of 103; and severe pneumonia. Why would ORMC kill my son

I really cannot express how caring and friendly the faculty were, the front desk, ultrasound and mammogram techs, Doctor Ashlock, and the scheduler. They actually asked questions and wanted to help me find a solution to my problem. And when I had to undergo a procedure, they explained everything very throughly and answered all of my questions and Kendra literally stood at my feet reassuring me I would be ok.
