The food is great. I have ordered off the menu 3/4 times and ate the buffet once. I usually get the butter chicken on a medium level spice with a garlic naan side. The chicken is super tender and the flavor and spice are right on. The buffet experience was just OK because the restaurant isn t busy enough to turn food often enough and I found some of the items to not have the warmth and freshness it should. This leads to the review - this restaurant is in danger of closing in a few months and the community should pull together to support them as they do have great food. Order off the menu and you ll have your food cooked fresh and it s great!

Food was okay, service was initially good, but they get an automatic one star for dishonest business. They offered a drink menu and I picked a $5 falooda. They charged me a bit higher once at checkout and I was able to ask for receipt ONCE I got charged. I was charged a $7 falooda without notice so I inquired about it to them. Their response was oh sorry, that was our old menu and shrugs it off. Its straight up fradulent and not okay. No matter how good for food is if you charge me more than what you show and wont do anything about it I wont return.

I think it s a bit ridiculous to have to wait an hour for a parotta or buffet dishes to be refilled when explicitly told 15-20 minutes. The food I tried was just OKAY. Nothing good, nothing horrible, just mid level food, given the price and slow service, this is not a place I d ever recommend to anyone. Maybe I went on a bad day but giving me the excuse of oh they got caught up in something so they re making it now an hour after order is unacceptable. Not even a single apology for this when I kept asking about it every 20 minutes. So 3 times and they still failed and wanted another 20 minutes. Maybe if they cut their price by half and speed up service by 100% it would be worth 4 stars, but I essentially spent money to wait around in a warm room today. I suggest people take their business somewhere else. Edit: I see the owner replied but can t just accept fault and apologize without making excuses. The front staff told me I can wait for refills or start now, but wants me to have fresh food she told me 15-20 minutes. After 30 minutes and I see that not even a single dish has been refilled is when I started to just eat the old stuff at the buffet. I had no problem with that. The problem was that the beef puff and fish bun I ordered, the beef puff only came 40 minutes after and asking twice about it. The fish bun even though she said she had fish bun, 40 minutes after order, comes and says they don t have it and switched it for something else. Interms of $17.99 paid, I originally got it with the live hopper station, but all I got was 1 egg hopper with an uncooked egg on top. That is it. The main reason for getting the live station was for the parotta, which never came. It would be extremely unfair to pay $21.99 for something i never received. I asked the front staff if they could charge me for the normal buffet instead and they begrudgingly agreed. So I think it is a little disingenuous to try and make excuses for the whole behavior even as the owner. I didn t complain about anything there and let it go, and I wrote a fair review based on my experience. Owner should accept it and improve rather than try and make light of the situation. Will never return as there are just way too many other better options at lower price range. I wish them success but I will never waste money like I wasted here again and I think it s fair people should have a more realistic expectation as the reviews did not reflect my experience. Like I said, could have been because I went on a bad day, but there is no excuse for a lack of consistency. 1 hour + for a parotta is inexcusable no matter what circumstance. Had the staff apologized for the long wait and acknowledged they made a mistake and offered to do something to make it right, I would have been completely fine with that and not left a 1 star review. It s the blatant disregard for the experience that shows they don t really care.

I was craving for some Sri Lankan meal. Found this place on google. Was welcomed with a smile. Received my meal very quickly. Food was better than I expected with all those spices hitting my tastebuds. I was sooooo full, couldn t pickup the fork I dropped on the floor. Can t wait to return to try the other items on the menu card. And if you plan to try cooking some Sri Lankan dishes by yourself, then you can purchase all the spices directly from this store. Vegetarian options: So many different varieties of dishes available. Dietary restrictions: Vegetarian food is available Parking: Large parking space. As you see in my video. I came for lunch and there was lots of spots available. Kid-friendliness: They have this 4 person table setup, ideal for families with kids. My wife and I recently enjoyed the Bamboo Kothu at Spicy Zest in North Richland Hills, and it was absolutely delicious! The flavors were vibrant, and it tasted fresh and healthy. The perfect blend of spices made it a memorable meal. We ll definitely be coming back for more! Thanks Team spicy zest

This place is amazing, the food amazing. They cook with all natural ingredients. So you re getting a very delicious flavorful experience. Don t be deterred by the name spicy. What they mean when they say spicy, they mean full of flavor. Which is exactly what it is. The service was amazing. They treated us like royalty there. And we are not anybody special. A wide variety of food on the buffet. And for $20 we thought it was reasonable. My family could handle the spicy food better than me. But most of the food was not too spicy. A Sri Lankan place that serves a mix of what can pass off as Sri Lankan, Tamil, Sinhalese, Malayali or even South Indian food. You have to be familiar with this cuisine to appreciate the place, or should be an adventurous foodie. Avoid if you are more of a barbecue/TexMex/burger kind of person. Service and ambience both are rather basic, but then thats not the reason to go to a place like this.

Wonderful and friendly staff! We ordered from our car because our toddler fell asleep, they brought it out to us and were so nice! The smoothies and teas were so good and fresh, not artificial tasting like many other places! Not only is the food fantastic and authentic, the service here really differentiates Spicy Zest Canteen from many other restaurants. I came in at 6:00pm on a Sunday and enjoyed the dinner buffet for $20. The buffet items are constantly being refilled with fresh, hot food and there is a great variety to choose from. The Kuttu was by far my favorite dish! The dessert table is also delicious The service here is absolutely fantastic. The lovely employees are so friendly, tending to all of our needs and refilling our drinks as soon as they notice the glasses are running low. As you go to get food, the staff is smiling, striking up friendly conversation, and asking how you are enjoying everything. The buffet includes FRESH roti and hoppers and they were brought to our table before we could even ask. They truly treated us like family and made the entire experience all the better. There are not many Sri Lankan restaurant options in the area and we are grateful that Spicy Zest is so delicious. They have a great reputation for their amazing food and I can attest that the rumors are true! 11/10 I would definitely come back

I am new to the area and came a couple weeks ago during their buffet.. they also let me order the butter chicken during the buffet hours as well. When I tell you that everything was fresh, juicy, and delicious!! My boyfriend is very picky when it comes to what he eats, I brought him a to go plate from the buffet and he was in love!! I was so happy that he loved their food because it s really hard to get him to try different cultures. Believe me when I say that this is the best Indian food that I ve had in a while and I m so happy that they are right around the corner from my house! I m on my way to them as I m typing this to go enjoy their buffet again! The lady at the counter was very friendly and let me try their desserts. The cook and the rest of the staff were very friendly as well! I recommend that anyone who loves Indian food should come here!

We stopped in for the dinner buffet around 6:30 on Saturday night. All staff was friendly, attentive and helpful throughout our visit. We were impressed by the wide variety of curries (chicken, beef, goat, veggie, mango), chutneys and assorted meats. The chicken biryani was outstanding-so fresh and flavorful-some of the best I ve had in years. For anyone seeking non-meat options, there was also some excellent fried tilapia and spicy tofu-the tofu was fantastic. There were also some delicious varieties of rice, rotis, hoppers, and samosas. We enjoyed golub jamon, mango mousse, pistachio mousse and milk tea for our dessert. This is hands-down one of the best buffets in the area, both in terms of quality and value-everything was so good! I highly recommend Spicy Zest to anyone in the area. We will definitely return!

Cannot emphasize enough the kindness and patience of the personnel including the chef at spicy zest both Richland hills This is a direct reflection of the standards of the owner (Compared to some other Indian restaurants where the front staff are rude and impatient and worse yet have not idea what is in the food that is on the menu) At spicy zest I was warmly welcomed and the person listened very patiently to my requests and explanations of my food restrictions. Then he met with the chef. Who then came out to meet me and speak to me The chef offered some suggestions based on my requests - all to go - tofu and veg curry - beets - mango curry - chicken curry - white rice The portions were perfect for one person I had the tofu curry and beets with rice On one day. - the flavors were complimentary to each other The following bday I had the chicken curry and the mango curry - absolutely wonderful contrast and depth of flavor As they do not use animal broth and only coconut milk in their cooking. Decided to try a new place, new food. Ceylonese food is new to me and went over on Tuesday. The server spent 10 minutes explaining everything on the menu ( bless her heart :-) ) and I ended up getting some standard fare. Food was good, not significantly different from South Indian fare unsurprisingly. Dishes like the hopper was new and tasty. What intrigued me was the Saturday night buffet. Told the owner I will be back. Its now Saturday night and I just waddled out of the place completely full. This place is legit and the price is only a shockingly low $20 with a full buffet and a grill outside serving up freshly grilled meats. Also hoppers and roti and milk tea was available and I really ate too much. Check out the pictures and you cant wait till Saturday 5:30 pm. Wow, just wow. We came in for lunch and were the only folks there. There are long shelves running on one side of the place with all kinds of Sri Lankan groceries. We had the lunch special and, oh mylanta, that beef was divinely inspired. It was so good that we came back that night and got a family meal to go. Which wasnt quite as good. I think I might have misunderstood what was on my plate for lunch (deviled beef or beef stew?). Still a great meal. We will be back again. That weekend night grill looks interesting. OH, and I nearly forgot the mango lassi. You want to try to mango lassi. I got another one for the dinner and watched as the waitress mixed it up, tasted it (with a fresh spoon), and decided to zhuzh it up a bit more. It was fantastic.

I loved this place! We stopped in here on a whim not knowing what to expect and was blown away. The food was amazing! They have a buffet on Saturday and we got to try so many different foods we had never tried before. I tried everything and it was ALL good. I also have to mention the staff. Everyone was kind and attentive. The restaurant was busy but they made us feel as if we were the only ones there. I went there on a Saturday evening with a few friends to give a friend a birthday surprise. The restaurant had some great Sri Lankan Sinhalese music (Baila songs). There was a group of Tamil speaking guests in the restaurant, and the staff was kind enough to play some fast beat Tamil songs as well to entertain those guests. The restaurant has some space for dancing, if you want to dance. Some guests were dancing there on the day we went. The staff was very welcoming and gave us an amazing service. They took care of bringing the surprise birthday cake to the table with candles (we gave them those in advance). The staff went an extra mile to switch off the lights and play the Happy Birthday song. Food was delicious! Since there was a buffet on that day, we got to taste a lot of different food. It was an absolutely pleasant experience, not just because of good food, but great and friendly service! We will definitely visit again!

Service was AMAZING. The waitress was patient and sweet, explained each dish thoroughly as it was our first time there and gave us wonderful suggestions. We got the lunch plate which was a suggestion from the waitress, so we could try multiple things! For my plate, I got both fried and yellow rice, stew chicken and deviled beef. Both rices were cooked perfectly. The chicken was soo tender, savory, and well seasoned, falling off the bone! The beef was very unique, it was sweet and savory, pairing perfectly with the rice. As we ate, we could tell the food was made with love! I also got a Sri Lankan coffee that was so delicious we re considering making SpicyZest our morning stop! Staff was very welcoming and kind! They took the time to tell us about their natural ingredients and where they came from! The best restaurant! We had visited Sri Lanka several times and always looked forward to the food and hospitality while there. By random chance we stopped in SpicyZest to check it and we were transported to Sri Lanka!! I can t say enough how authentic and delicious it was! The staff was professional and friendly. If you are looking to try exclusively the Sri Lankan cuisine then I recommend to try to look out the menu and order accordingly, However if you want to make your palate experience a diverse flavors then go for Buffet options. I got to try barbecue buffet, in terms of food quality, the main course is average,BBQ is superior as the taste gives a natural flavor.Lastly, the deserts are the best as it gives a refreshing feeling. Overall I had a good experience. A special mention to the service for giving immense importance to customers..

First time trying out Sri Lankan cuisine. I had beef Biriyani, which you have the option to pick from different choice of protein. It s interestingly pungent and spicy, but not to the extreme level where it takes over all the other flavors. It goes away pretty quickly if you are okay with spicy food. The rice itself has its own seasoning and flavor, which was very rich. Workers & servers were nice. Next time I will try to come on Saturday for their buffet style dinner where you can try different spices & foods.

YUMMY!I didnt even know this was here until I rolled up on them. I just wanted to eat my medicine in its natural state by eating at this establishment. No guilt. No overstuffed feeling. I am in love with it being available, close, reasonably priced, EVERYTHING tasted delicious, the Mango juice, the food from the grill...I established new relationships that I intend to have for life. The staff was 5 star alone because of their personalities & the care they put into the food they prepared. I did fail to eat desserts & only now am a saddened by that because they have cookies & cream. Im thrilled about this establishment & you will be too! Vegetarian options: Halal, many meatless options...even tomatoes were grilled Dietary restrictions: Halal guidelines/standards are followed. Parking: For what this establishment does for each soul that walks into its doors...it would be nice to see it right off Blvd 26 with Gold bricks leading up to it. Mot than enough parking for even a trucker who wants to switch up the food intake. Theres a gas station in the same vicinity. Wheelchair accessibility: Theres no steps. Low seating & a very attentive staff that are catering to the needs of their guest.

The food was fresh and delicious. The staff was super attentive, they took the time to explain the options. I had fried rice, stuffed roti, chicken and veggies. I also tried the passion fruit tea. They allowed us to taste a little bit of their desserts. We are definitely coming back.

Had to order the lunch specials on a Saturday afternoon as its a busy day for them preparing for BBQ night buffet. I had the chicken stew with fried rice. It was unfortunately just ok. But the chicken patties and chicken roll were good. The server Hasanat was lovely and pleasant to talk to.

Updating review due to owners response. Will give this place another try someday. I called ahead before we drove here to confirm that they had oat milk for the boba teas. They said yes. I even double checked to make sure they heard me. When we got there they didnt have oat milk, and turns out didnt have boba either which they should have mentioned on the phone. First experience here was a bust. Employees were nice in person.

We tried their lunch special and chicken biryani. All the items in the lunch special were delicious, specially the eggplant, lamb and beef curry. The chicken biryani was a hit. Delicious. It even came with two fried chicken drumsticks which was new for me. We tried fish cutlet, beef stuffed roti and wood-apple juice. The employees were very friendly as well. But it was understaffed. Highly recommended tho.

Ate here for the first time today and every single pieces of food was mouth watering delicious and fresh! The staff were all soooo sweet and helpful as I asked questions about each option. The best food i have ever put in my mouth the fish bun is soooo good i had to order more my husband fell in love with the sir Lankan chicken biryani bone in and the fires are amazing my 9 year old devoured them my almost 11 year old liked the chicken and fried rice but the chicken was a tad bit too spicy for her and she likes most spicy food the passion fruit tea with popping boba is amazing my 9 yo got the strawberry tea with boba and its delicious she likes it a lot my 11yo loved the mocha one and my husband devoured his cookies and creme Service was awesome and so friendly we will definitely be coming back just an amazing experience

Food was pretty good, probably not something I would pay again for again (you get $14 of food for something you could get elsewhere for maybe $8-10). I do think their food is pretty good and unique, would really like to see them offer smaller portions for smaller prices. The vibe of this place is also very very mild. I can understand if someone likes that, but for something that is fusion/spicy/Boba, I like a fun and cool atmosphere, and this place is lacking it. Some music and better lighting would go a long way. I also think they offer too many things. I have never had sri Lankan food and was overwhelmed with the offers-would love for them to have a chefs reccomendation or something that could advertise their best dish that a boring American like me would enjoy. Would love for this place to succeed, the employees were awesome and they have alot of potential.

Try this place! We had no idea what we were getting into but were pleasantly surprised.
