I ve been coming here for years. At first, this was one of my go-tos and the food was always spectacular! It s gone down hill slowly over the years. The food quality is very poor and the restaurant is only mid-clean. The service is still really great but the food just is not what it used to be.

First time here as a new resident of this grand city of New Braunfels. I love eating sushi and sashimi and enjoy a good lunch Bento box when I can get one. The bartender/PIC was exceptional at the bar today. Michael was his name, and he definitely helped make this initial lunch experience a pleasant one. It was a little odd being asked to sit at the bar at 12:35pm on a weekday lunch frame when there were about 3-5 either servers or hosts grabbing lunch or on a break. Table service was not offered. Everyone was super kind and pleasant. Food was good. Calamari was exceptional. I ll be back with my wife next time.

Let me start off by saying my first experience was spectacular!! Love the service! Our gorgeous server Manny was delightful even though it was completely packed!! So easy going and wonderful to talk to. Definitely coming back again! Get the Tiger Eye roll while ur at it! Sat at the bar Saturday night - Tyler and Nicky were amazing, the wedding cake martini is top tear... Always great experiences at Bonzai.

Bonzai Steak and Sushi Restaurant is a hibachi lovers dream! The Hibachi steak is seriously juicy and bursting with flavor. Not to mention, their service is top-notch - friendly vibes all around. Props to Betty for her bubbly personality, which brightens up your day. Their lunch specials are a great value - a satisfying meal with soup and veggies included. And hey, they even offer a military discount, which is a nice touch. Oh, and lets not forget about their sweet tea - its seriously good stuff. Trust me, you wont be disappointed at Bonzai!

It took over an hour to get our chef to our grill after we had ordered, but that was the first time it had happened out of 4 prior visits. Regardless, the food was awesome as usual. This one hiccup out of 4 prior visits won t deter us from going back. Everything on the menu is good and the chefs are really good at keeping you entertained while they cook. Kid-friendliness: Great spot for kids birthdays.

I love it! I had the Calamari Steak. It was amazing! The table I ended up at had chairs whos seats were tore up pretty badly. But once I sat down didnt really notice it. Staff was very friendly. And the atmosphere was amazing. I took of a point because they need to fix their chairs. It comes across as cheap on their end. Just replace them. But yeah otherwise itd be a 5/5 experience!

I lived in New Braunfels for 15 years. After moving, I came back to my favorite hibachi place, which Im sad to say seems to have drastically gone down hill. Ive always tried to be respectable to staff, never leave a mess, etc. but in turn I at least expect some kind of service? Our server got my order wrong twice, didnt check on us until we were basically through with the meal, and then tacked on an 18% auto gratuity for very very subpar service... I was gonna leave a tip, I just dont think the service we received was worth $25. It definitely was not busy and its not like our waitress was running around frantically, it was very slow and most staff were just standing around. Dont go here with 5+ in your party (ours was actually 4 adults and a baby who didnt eat but was still counted), theyll give you little to no service and still charge you $20+ for it. My filet was ordered medium rare but came out closer to medium well/ well, or at least seemed like it since it was dry and hard to chew. My fried rice also somehow was dry and they no longer add corn which i actually liked. Overall, I paid almost $200 for a mediocre meal with mediocre service and thats pretty sucky in this economy where I work really hard to make $25/hr just to give it to someone who didnt put any effort into giving us a good dining experience. The womens bathroom was not very clean and the seats are broken, so its just an accident waiting to happen for someone whos a fall risk. The whole place needs a face-lift and some staffing changes. I would no longer recommend this place to anyone, even though it was somewhere I used to go monthly when I lived here.

I have been going to hibachi places my whole life and we had the absolute best chef I have had the pleasure of cooking for us. Andrew was incredible!!!! He started off with a bang and kept it coming! Overall the experience was positive and I would go back. It was our waitress, who provided poor service that earned the restaurant an overall 3 stars. She was absent most of the time and had to ask for assistance several times during the evening. When we asked for the check and a to go box, we never saw her again except when we headed out and saw her outside flirting with one of the staff. We had to ask for assistance from the waitress assigned to the party next to ours. Fortunately for her, the 18% tip was included with the meal. The food was great, our chef was amazing, and thank goodness for the other waitress that helped us out or we would still be seating there waiting on our check.

The clear soup is delicious! I got the hibachi chicken teriyaki special and it was too salty and dry. My husband liked his sushi. Hibachi is only in the evenings not during lunchtime. Honestly, nothing special. The place needs an update for sure but the server was very helpful. I want to go for dinner at some point to try the hibachi, maybe that will be better.

Visited this spot before the dinner rush hit and I was beyond pleased. Sat at the bar and the bartender was kind and assertive to my needs. The soup was interesting with some sort of cheese in it...I didnt mind it. Salad came with the right amount of ginger sauce which I was really happy about, typically you dont get enough at these kinds of restaurants I feel. The sushi was tasty and a great serving size. I also got a lunch portion of hibachi. Delicious. All of it. Certainly will visit again.

I stop here often for lunch, good sushi at very decent prices. I usually get Jennea as my server, shes very friendly, fast & efficient. She makes sure you have everything you need without being that annoying waitress that checks on you too much or talks too much. Only complaint I have is that the floor was very sticky like someone right before me had spilled something and it wasnt properly mopped up. Not reason enough for me to stay away. Like I said its a good quick & cheap lunch option. With exceptional customer service.

I have always loved the food at Bonzai but unfortunately will not be returning due to very unkind service. We placed a large and expensive to go order today that they automatically tacked a $75 gratuity on that we could not alter (I have never heard of this for to go orders) and upon receiving the food we noticed we had some things missing. When we went back to get the missing items they made us pay for them again and were not nice or professional about it at all. Very rude and unpleasant service from the daytime bartender specifically. We will be spending our time and money elsewhere. For hibachi I recommend Shoguns as a wonderful alternative.

We have been going here for years. In our opinion it has gradually gone downhill. Mostly the cleanliness of the restaurant is really bad. The hibachi side is the worst. Salt shakers with dried caked on grease. Floors covered in grease. Chairs the same. The menus have food on them and are so worn out they are falling apart. The table side of the restaurant isn t much better. If the front is like this, what does the kitchen look like? We have stopped going.

Visited San Antonio and stopped here for family dinner. Ive been to several of this style restaurant across the country. We were very pleased with the show! The chef was very friendly with the kids and of course the adults. The standard jokes, heart burn, train whistle, volcano and FIRE, lots of FIRE! The food was very good, soup salad and stir fry. I ate here this evening. The server/waiter was the best thing about this place. He had a great personality and excellent customer service. The hostess needs more coaching on customer service. The food was good. Pretty good sushi. It came out fast. My table was so wobbly I was worried my drink would spill. The booth wasnt cleaned all the way before we sat down. There was bits of food on the booth chair. On both sides. I hated the lighting. Overall, 5 stars because the food and service was good.

Ive been coming to here for a couple years. And Im sad to say the food quality has gone down. The beef tataki was VERY thickly cut, and very over seasoned. Add that they drown it in the sauce instead of letting you dip it now made it very salty/over seasoned. The rolls werent as well made either. The rolls tasted alright but it was sad to see everything kinda going down hill some. The server did very well though, have yet to experience a bad server there are least.

So for 1, the customer service was not good. The lady at the bar was straight up rude af & short. Not even remotely approachable. Never eat here. Their exhaust vents do not capture all the cooking exhaust smoke. The result is a place covered in a layer of grime. The floors, walls everything has a layer of grease and grime. I want to like this place, but they make it difficult. They re usually extremely slow, food is average, and the floor and restaurant always appear dirty. Floor is always grimy. I hate to say it, they re just not the same as they used to be. Not worth going here. My last experience will be my last. Our family sat down for the grill and waited 37 before receiving our appetizer. We never received a refill on our water. Our chef never arrived to cook the food. They did apologize, so that was nice however they didn t offer to adjust the bill for any inconvenience. I didn t ask them to, but it would have been a nice gesture given the lousy service. Worst hibachi Ive ever had. From the dirty restaurant (windows, doors, sauce/spice bottles, cook tops) to the lackluster show, to the extremely overcooked and poorly seasoned food, there is nothing here worth going for. -The soup tasted like it had no salt and no umami flavor you expect. -The rice was incredibly bland with overcooked eggs. -the Mahi Mahi (which the chef used her raw chicken spatula on) was overcooked to the point of leather and over salted so bad it was inedible. -the scallops were also badly overcooked and over salted. I dont recommend.

Went for lunch with my 5 year old. Ordered an appetizer and a shrimp kids meal. They didnt have what I originally ordered so I switched for the calamari. I wish it was a little crunchier but I could ask for that next time. The clear soup was very good and the kids meal was a big portion. We took most of it home. The sushi looked a little pricey, but Im new to the area so it might be normal. Cameron was our server and he was wonderful.

After our recent visit, I don t trust this restaurant with keeping proper sanitation protocols since the staff is more interested in being on their personal phone than doing their jobs. Upon entering the restaurant, the hostess who was wearing a sweatshirt and jeans, motioned to us that we could sit wherever we wanted to with one hand while holding her phone with the other. I ended having to ask for another menu since multiple pages had some sort of nasty material sprayed on them. One of the usual responsibilities of a hostess is to regularly clean all menus. The only thing different that we noticed the hostess doing while we were there was holding her head up with one arm to try and nap. We also noticed the bartender on his phone all the time when he wasn t filling a drink order. At one time, he appeared to be ordering something on his phone since he pulled out his wallet as if he was paying for something. Later during our meal, he moved over to sit behind the hostess stand while he surfed on his phone. The menu covers were worn and coming apart so much that they should have been thrown away last year. We had to sweep our booth seats from all the debris that the busser left on them. There evidently is no supervision of the front of the house personnel so it really scares me what is going on in the back of the house. We really had hoped for a great experience but were sorely disappointed.

I want to start by saying that the food was actually pretty good. The steak was fantastic and the chicken yakisoba while a tiny bit dry was still delicious. The atmosphere was so so but most of the staff was nice. Only one waitress had an attitude, but it was negligible. Our actual waitress we only saw once when she took our order and again when we asked for the check. I actually had to flag down 3 other waiters to be served. Natalie, a different waitress was most wonderful! She got my refill promptly, was really kind and we werent even in her section! (In the 10 minutes it took me to come up with this review our waitress still couldnt get us one drink.)

First time trying this place. Arrived around noon on a Friday, steady pace of people (not packed). Waiter wasn t pleasant, neither came back to see if I needed anything(condiments/refill). Only thing HOT was my soup, meal was warm. Appetizer came with main course. I ll come back to see if it was a bad day or it was just the normal.

This restaurant looked to have not been cleaned in years. The floors, walls, vents, ceiling, plates, utensils were all disgusting. The hibatchi griddle had some kind of black liquid dripping onto it and the chef did not clean it all off prior to starting to cook and it likely continued to drip while he prepared the food The chicken was so salty that it was impossible to eat and the shrimp was disgusting and smelled like expired fish. The eggs were scorched very badly which made the rice gross. The chef did not offer any of the sauces until after everyone was nearly finished eating. This was a birthday dinner and quite possibly the worst experience that Ive ever had in a restaurant.

I cant believe how much I just spent (and tipped the sushi chef and waiter) on my to go order only for the shrimp tempura inside our rolls to be old,stale and hard as a rock. They were so hard we had to spit it out. We also got the New Braunfels roll which we were excited to try only for the meat in that to also be horrible and chewy. Im so bummed out,I wanted this place to be good. I really hope the manager calls me back.

Absolutely awesome Japanese restaurant! Loved everything about it! Went there for lunch on a Saturday in New Braunfels. This place is quitely tucked away in a shopping center, but you dont want to miss it! I ordered the shrimp tempura appetizer, which came with vegetables. I also ordered the hibachi rice as a side. All for $15 with the lunch special!!! It was like eating a full meal and I took some to go. The food was delicious and the tempura sauce was excellent! The atmosphere was low key, which made for a pleasant dining experience. There are authentic hibachi grills available to have your food prepared in front of you for an exciting culinary adventure. Would def go back if I was in the area. Highly recommend!!!
