One of the hidden gems in the area thats worth a bit of a trip. Prices are reasonable, the food is affordable, and they even do double features. This is such a great treat for my family and their playground is top notch if the kiddos arent feeling the movie. Cons: hot weather, sometimes long lines which is to say they are popular and are in Texas which isnt their fault. Love this business!

WARNING TO THOSE COMING FROM OUT OF TOWN: This is more on the experience than anything else. The establishment itself is a great concept, and I believe would be enjoyable if not for the following issues. Me and my partner found out about the establishment through Instagram and I was immediately excited to experience a drive-in movie as part of our vacation. We were coming in from Laredo. We did not know you could rent a radio at the establishment so we brought one at Walmart, along with a battery operated fan since cars are not allowed to idle--people do this anyway. Calling the establishment a drive-in is misleading as it is encouraged for people to get out of their vehicles to watch the movie; its more of a campsite. There were children, teens, and dogs running around the parking lot being rowdy. Behind us a group of teenagers were playing football. I always thought the idea of drive-ins was to stay in your vehicle to watch a movie. Hatchbacks are told to park in the back or to Be sure the back hatch of your vehicle is not blocking the view of others you can ask for twine in the 50 s Café so to not obstruct the view of others, but god forbid anyone have common courtesy now-a-days, no one pays attention to this rule. We were in a sedan and had to move our vehicle four times before we finally gave up and left. Another rule that is constantly broken is people having their headlights on. We were constantly being blinded while trying to watch the movie. This establishment is meant more for teens and families, not for singles and couples who want to enjoy a movie or have a date night. Especially not for people in small cars, you would have to be at the establishment bright and early to get a good spot if you have a small car, however the establishment has a rule about not saving parking spots--people do this anyway. Our experience was miserable exuberated by the fact that the establishment does not offer refunds. $24 to only watch 20mins of a four hour double feature, not to mention the money we spent on the trip itself, the radio, and fan.

First time at a drive in. Definitely get there early as it gets quite packed. The movies were great, but the picture was blurry. The projector and its components might need to be cleaned. Calling the diner retro is a stretch because from what I could tell the only thing retro in the place was the menu boards, a couple of signs, and the little classic cars for kids meals. The price for 2 movies was great. Not at all expensive which was nice. The popcorn was a bit stale and the milkshake could be a little thicker, especially for the price, but tasted good. Unfortunately, too many people dont I have respect for other moviegoers and think they are privileged and do not have to follow the rules about driving with the lights off. Parents allowed their children to run around a parking lot in the dark which is quite dangerous. Running, screaming kids, car alarms being activated every time somebody leaves their car to go to the diner, headlights on when there shouldnt be, and people turning on vehicle lights because they cant see the trash can they are parked next to was a distraction and slightly ruined my first drive in experience, but overall, it was fun and I plan to go again, maybe once a week.

Stars & Stripes Drive-In Movie Theater is a fantastic place for a classic movie night under the stars. The experience is unique and enjoyable, making it a great option for a family outing or a fun evening with friends. Pros: Double Feature: One of the highlights is the double-header movies, offering great value for your ticket price and a chance to enjoy two films in one night. Clean and Inviting Atmosphere: The facility is well-maintained and clean, creating a pleasant environment for moviegoers. Classic Drive-In Charm: The drive-in experience adds a nostalgic touch to your movie night, making it a fun and memorable outing. Cons: Vehicle Noise: As with many drive-ins, there are occasional issues with vehicle noise, especially from those who start their engines during the movie. Diesel trucks can be particularly disruptive. Food Quality: The food options are typical of drive-in theaters, which means they re basic and not particularly special. However, they do provide a convenient snack option while enjoying the films. Overall, Stars & Stripes Drive-In Movie Theater offers a great drive-in movie experience with its clean and welcoming environment and the added bonus of double feature films. Just be prepared for some potential vehicle noise and stick with the classic drive-in snacks.

I love the idea of this place. It is very clean. Although employees in a golf cart come around once during the show, they do not do anything to control the noise complaints and overwhelming drug use. It is hard to consider this family friendly when you are worried your kids may have a contact high.

It really is a good intentioned concept. They basically encourage you to sit outside your vehicle and have a lawn viewing experience during times of more adverse temperatures(which is most of the year in this region)as there is a no idling policy. The outside factor will require planning for a more favorable experience. It almost becomes a volume war amongst vehicles which leads to an unpleasant echo distraction. Probably due to the natural essence of the freedom of being outside, kids and larger groups tend to be louder and also a distraction. Vehicles continued to show up, leave, and one in front of us even hit their breaks several times during the movie(can t really wrap my head around why this happened as many times as it did, nonetheless), all of this led to light distractions throughout. Also, it appears to be in close proximity to an airport, granted it did seem like a smaller airport so the smaller planes flying out were not a deal breaker. We had so much excitement going into this. We have an SUV in which we can lower the back window and the venue parking rows are even strategically raised angling the vehicle upward towards the screen, which is a well thought out design. We lowered the rear seats and fitted the back of the vehicle out with our camping mattress and pillows making for a super comfy outdoor theatre viewing experience. And then we were notified there would be no idling allowed. We tried to comply. The high was 93 during the day and around 88 during the movie. It quickly became quite uncomfortable. With the windows rolled down in came the echos from others radios and the sounds of kids playing outside as if it were a playground. About 20 minutes into the viewing an apparent staff member approached to enforce idling for us and the two vehicles to each side of us. I have been to others drive in theaters with closer proximity parking and this was not an issue. Do you notice fumes when sitting in consistent stop and go traffic throughout Austin and the surrounding areas? I can remember cabin filters being a standard in a middle of the road vehicle I had back in 2009, which is considered fairly dated now. For me it s deal breaker given most movie theaters have come such a long way to make the movie going experiences more comfortable. The pluses, super cheap in comparison to a traditional theater going experience. I wish you a great experience if you do decide to go. The response to Rachel C and TC are some good examples of an appropriate response. However, I do thank you for taking the time to respond. I hope that others can overlook these challenges and have an enjoyable experience.

Well to tell you the truth me and my wife were told to turn off our engine by security. I guess this is a new thing but I dont understand it was so hot and nobody could hear the movie. At least at the old drive ins they had complimentary speakers you could put in your car or the radio. I then had to wait in line for 45 min in a food line to just get a sub par radio compared to my car. My car died cause we couldnt turn on the car to recharge the battery. I love the atmosphere but some people were telling me it must be a new thing. Idk if this is the right fit for me and my family we live in Texas and its very hot and you have to pay ten dollars extra to rent a radio. Its just a hassle. I hope it was just misinformed security guards. I hope so I like the place but would rather be comfortable. Idk I miss that experience just not so many rules. I had the radio and my doors open to provide sound to the other occupants. They thanked me and said they probably just made a mistake. Im not going to give up on them and hopefully they fix this. Sorry for the poor grammar and run on sentences Im taking care of my kids lol. Good luck Stars and Stripes please fix this. Either supply radios that people can hook up to their cars or have an intercom or something. Thank you for your service. I will take this negative rating if anything changes I promise you. US Navy Veteran thank you guys for a beautiful place. Ways to improve: -Have an app you can listen to the radio or connect to a BT radio. -Have complementary radios like the real old school drive in theaters. -Have a new line or use the existing one for order pickup to get your 10 dollar radio with a 20$ deposit and leave your personal ID at the front. - Allow people to just either keep their car on so they can be Americans and enjoy the movie in their cars with their surround sound and their air-conditioning in this hot Texas Weather. My Dad and Grandpa always said dont just complain and be a psycho give them better options and constructive criticism. I have a Honda 4 cylinder or a Tesla yes if it was a V8 or above yes absolutely.

I came here yesterday to experience our first ever drive in movie theater but unfortunately we didn t really have a good experience. We came from out of town and they started having issues with the registers which we weren t able to purchase anything. We also waited 2 hours for the movie to start but unfortunately they also started having issues with that so we did not get to experience watching the movie on the big screen. So when I asked for a refund they told me to call the next day which I did and I m unable to get a hold of anyone. They also were giving out vouchers which is a great idea for locals but for the ones traveling it would be nice to get our money back.

The experience itself was nostalgic, and wed do it again. Next time well be better prepared! The concession line was ridiculous! We missed the first 30 minutes of the Twisters movie. And thats because we arrived early. A popcorn and candy cart would be super convenient outside or passing by the vehicles before the movie starts and during intermission. The womens restroom had only one soap dispenser functioning, which made it inconvenient. Four sinks, but we have to stand in line for the soap first? Not cool. Luckily, the line moved fairly quickly. Its a nice venue with a cool outdoor hangout area. The parking for the movie is just like the good ol days. There are rules about not leaving the car in idle, no lights, etc... but we didnt see anyone enforcing them. We had to knock on some vehicles to get lights turned off that were facing us. We had a great time and the weather was perfect! With better planning, Im sure the next trip will be a better one! #AgentVal Val J Aranda A Wonderful Life Real Estate Group Brokered by eXp Realty, LLC

pros: affordable food, paid less than $20 for popcorn, hamburger, and icee. affordable tickets, appreciate the veteran discount cons: the patrons, had numerous headlights on throughout the movie, being blinded sucks. there was a baby next to us whose parents allowed it to cry for the entirety of the movie twisters; and at one point someone had a laser pointer pointing to the screen dont want to say this place is bad, but the people not tending to their children, plus the random headlights on throughout the movie ruined the experience. the venue is nice enough, service is okay; but we drove too far for our date night to listen to an upset baby cry for an hour and 45 minutes.

They will jump you if your battery dies. They play new movies, not old ones. Two movies for the price of one. Cons: I wish they had sections for cars & trucks and a section for people who want to leave their car running during the movie. Its too hot in the summer to not have the A/C on. If youre in a car I recommend getting there early. Bathrooms are a little dirty and toilet water was running on the floor with several toilets.

This is one of the worst movie experiences we have ever had. We have been coming to this drive in for years and have always thoroughly enjoyed it but at our last visit it was a far cry from enjoyable. The entire movie a teenager drove around on a golf cart monitoring to make sure nobody had their vehicles turned on. I understand that some people like to sit outside of their vehicles to go to the movies but the majority of people prefer to go and sit in the car with their own families. My daughter is allergic to mosquitoes and we did not bring bug spray as we are usually able to sit with the windows rolled up. It is also 90* at 9:00pm in the summertime in TX. So sitting through a movie at those temps while getting eat up by mosquitoes and having to worry about whether or not the battery on your vehicle is going to die, while other people are walking around outside of your windows making noise so that you can t even hear the movie, DOES NOT make for an enjoyable movie watching experience. For the price we pay to watch a movie at the drive in, we will just go to a regular theater. At least we will have air conditioning and quiet to watch our movie. And our vehicle will start when it is time to leave. As sad as it is we WILL NOT be back!!!

Our grandkids love when we bring them here its not that bad of a drive from San Antonio. Good food and snacks for the kids, big playground for the kids to play if you can come out early enough before the movies start. Bathrooms are clean thats a plus. People are nice, tables indoors and outdoors. Definitely recommend this place and will keep coming back.

Some people bring their own Bluetooth speakers and it distorts the sound making their sound come out first on their speakers then it comes out on the radio station in your car so you hear the sound/voice double .. very annoying and frustrating . My family and other customers did advise staff personnel (driving around covering headlights during the movie) and they (staff) advise they would address the problem but they never did so we left .. Stars and Stripes Drive-In Theaters should ban people from bringing their own boombox/Bluetooth speakers into the property . I just wanted to comment on this matter because I believe I m not the only one that experienced this

Nice change from a traditional movie theater. Only reason not 5 stars was the food - chips in the frito pie were stale.

Wonderful experience, especially in light of the fact that Stars & Stripes represents one of this newly-widowed contributor s first outings, shortly after relocating to TX (in late-July/early Aug of 19), all from 2100+ miles northeast, and just after finding himself settling with his (also widowed) new wife and children here in the Hill Country. Stars & Stripes proved to be a truly enjoyable and welcoming experience during this otherwise incredibly overwhelming transition.

This is our go to place for a nostalgic movie nights! Get there early to get the prime spot also to not be a neusence to others who get set up in time. The best thing to do is bring a boom box for audio as the sound comes in FM radio. Also chem lights to guide you once its dark.

We try to support local businesses, especially in these times. Please DO NOT Support STARS and STRIPES Drive-Inn Theatre in New braunfels. While we thoroughly enjoy evenings/nights out at a movie, this facility will not, NOT, enforce rules and procedures. Therefore making the evening eperience all but impossible to enjoy....... even when being proactive and requesting intervention, if necessary, support is NEVER given. So, each visit we sit in front of, behind, or beside someone with a running motor, lights on, hatchback up in front of screen and/or an alarm going off, etc. The phone number to the business, 100% of the time, goes directly to voicemail. Therefore, you need to leave your movie, walk to the concession building, stand in line and speak to a manager. The Manager, Scott, when asked for assistance more than once, shrugs his responsibility s off. If business is good, why bother caring? After several attempts and hopes for change, we will no longer be supporting this business and ask that you strongly consider the same. Even during this time of COVID-19, where every other parking spot is made available to ensure social distancing, cars will still park next to each other and no one holds them accountable. We are a retired military family celebrating Independence Day here and business was such a disappointment, once again. UNACCEPTABLE! We used to bring many people here and share our experiences together as a group. Now, we will work to keep people away! We will never return.

This was my first time at this drive-in. I went to see the Bob Marley movie. The drive from San Marcos was easy and quick. Easy to find once you exit I-35. Nice well lit sign at night that you can notice. My first impression was that it felt like I was driving into an airfield. A guy took my ticket as I drove through the booth. I was then shown which direction to drive in to see the movie that I paid for. These areas to park are very spacious. The parking spots seem endless. I like listening to the movie through my own cars speakers. I brought my own snacks and drink but there is a great snack bar with low prices. They have popcorn, milkshakes, candy and funnel cakes, and even hamburgers. The bathrooms are located inside the diner you either have to walk to the diner or drive your car there but you will disturb everyone during the movie with your headlights. The only thing I didnt like is there is no one present at the actual theater. No one to ask a question to, or to keep the peace in case someone is being rude. The theater areas themselves are pitch black with no lights except for the screen itself.
