Yesterday I ordered beef fajitas for1. I asked specifically for no pico- instead fresh jalepenos with tomatoes chopped small. I received none of either! Jake that the onions cooked with the fajitas charred literally burnt. They were almost raw instead! The meat was not chewable! I spent27.00 & got 2 tortillas! When ordered the same meal & dined in, the meal was perfect. The fajitas were so good& lean, they practically melted in my mouth. However, the meal I ordered to go was a TOTAL RIP OFF!!! Theresa s a waitress there with along red pony tail flipping it from side to side with every step she took as she served patron s food. I guess hair nets are prohibited asNO ONE wore one!!!

Found our new fave Tex-Mex spot! Super clean, delicious food, great value and really nice staff. Cannot recommend this place highly enough. They have a private room in the back for small parties or a larger separate dining hall for bigger parties if needed. We were there on a Thursday afternoon and one dining hall was generously filled with plenty of space. The green sauce with the chips is like a drug (a little spicier than other places and perfect!). I was very tempted to get the fajitas but ended up taking the recommendation for the El Dorado Bowl which is a seafood bowl. I recommend substituting the refried beans for black beans and you can also sub out the Spanish rice for cilantro rice if youd like. If youre super hungry, its perfect and if not, youll have some leftovers for later. The churros for dessert were fresh from the oven. Great amount of parking and great location. We will be back very soon!

The staff is a delight. The manger is a sweet heart. Drinks are on point. Location is close to home which make a convenient hide away when I need to work on things. The kids love it too because they have a little robot that delivers food. They also have the free ice cream which is always a hit.

I usually don t post reviews however, We went for lunch and sat at the bar and had the pleasure of meeting Trey (bartender) and Yadi (the manager). The service was fabulous! Trey was so awesome, the drinks (J.T. Rita) and Fajitas was delightful. Yafi came out to greet us and was personable! We will definitely be back! Thank you Trey and Yadi!!!! There s an update since I left the first review! Since the first review we ve dined here several times. Last week was me and my husband s anniversary and I chose to order here being we frequent this restaurant since they ve opened. Last week, when I got home my order was not complete, I called and spoke to the manager, Sam, and he was very apologetic and nice and told me the next time we ordered, he d give us an appetizer and dessert. Well, today my husband and I decided we wanted to eat Johnny tamales for dinner, so I called my order in and told the young man that answered what we were promised and I wanted to place an order. He said that he d need to speak w the manager, he put me on hold, comes back and said the GM told him tht he couldn t honor what Sam said bc Sam isn t working today. The customer service here has gone DOWN! For my sons bday, we came here to eat, the waitress spilled a tray full of water on half of our table yet, we still tipped her very well and the audacity of the GM to tell us he can t honor what a manger said he d give us. We were about to spend well over 50 dollars here. It s disappointing once again! I love their food, obviously, but I won t be coming back! GM let this be a lesson for you, that your customers can make or break you. Now I have to eat somewhere I really didn t want to eat! My husband and I went there last night and OMG!!! We had a short wait on seating but when we were seated it was up from there. The appetizers came out fast and EVERYTHING on the platter was DELICIOUS! The adult drinks were good and strong (they are not stingy w the alcohol)! The food came out shortly after and it was SO SO SO GOOD!! Our waitress was good as well! Everything overall was very good!! We re going back definitely!!! Oh and the ribs OMG!!! Fell off the bone!

Had lunch here with a group of friends. The restaurant is much larger than I thought it would be and also includes a private party room. The spice combinations were a bit different than your typical Tex-Mex, but very good. I had the Desperado combination plate. They also have a full, large bar with seating. Will definitely come back.

We eat there often but maybe no more. Went Sunday with a total of 5 and two toddlers. When we got the check gave waiter 2 credit cards to split and gave him cash for tip. And told him so. When we got the bill they added 15% on each credit card for gratuity. We did not complain even though we tried to look for the waiter. He disappeared .

Fantastic experience at Johnny Tamales! I dont normally get burgers at tex mex restaurants, but the Johnny B, was amazing! Also some of the best green & red sauce that Ive ever had. Highly recommend. The dining area & bar was beautiful. To top it off, the service was quick and they were wonderful to talk too. Ill definitely be back!

We waited over 45 minutes for our food. Then they brought half the food without the beans. We waited another 15 minutes for the beans. My chicken spinach enchiladas had a portion of meat and spinach for a 1 year old baby to eat. I was very disappointed and Im still hungry. The manager said thats always the portion size. Tonight I decided to treat my daughter to a nice meal before taking her back to college and she wanted to try something new. We were not disappointed in the food or the service. Foods good which is why I m giving it three stars. However, service for to go area is always a disaster and it s not the first time that I got bad service from to go. They have no customer service skills and no sense of urgency. I had my car running with my dog in it so I was trying to hurry, but the girl on the phone did not tell me how long my order would take and I know I got there way past when it was ready to make sure I didn t have to wait. There was one woman in front of me taking a while to order but for five minutes, I stood there and nobody came to help either of us. then finally somebody came, and then they disappeared again for a few minutes to go get my order and when they came back, they forgot something so then they went to the back again and the whole process took like 15 minutes. The girl on the phone was awkward as well and, the guy who brought out my food, just stood there in silence, waiting for his coworker to finish using the register to take someone else s order and so quiet I could barely hear him, took another five minutes to check me out. My food was ready the whole time, though. for &20+ the portion size is small. They could give more pico, it s a very small amount not enough for a whole order of fajitas. And I only got four pieces of chicken.

Johnny tamales is a great place to eat. It has a great ambiance its clean and the waiters and waitresses are kind and friendly. We had the most exquisite time. Our waiter Kirby was the bomb, the manager Neil. Fantastic! If we could give them a hundred stars they got it. From ice cream with toppings to churros with caramel in the middle and to have all the ice cream you can eat is just fantastic. What a wonderful eating experience. We had a large group and expected to wait for a table but the manager immediately assisted to get us seated and even let us choose which table was more suitable for us. The server was attentive, the food was delicious, the restaurant was clean and everyone loved the ice cream cones at the end! I get shrimp at Mexican restaurants all the time. The Diablo shrimp were so tender, flavorful and buttery! I would definitely go back when visiting TX again.

Just picked up a To-Go order from Johnny Tamales for the first time and was thoroughly impressed! The customer service was exceptional, both over the phone and in person. I briefly stepped inside and was pleased to see a welcoming atmosphere with a nice bar area and plenty of seating. We ordered the chicken and beef fajitas for two and a dinner portion of guacamole, with both corn and flour tortillas. The food quality was top-notch, and the portion sizes were generous. Everything we got totaled around $55, which was reasonable given the amount and quality. Looking forward to bringing the family in to dine inside. We have been here a few times before and while the service was inconsistent, the food was good. We chalked it up to this being a new location. Theyve had time to work out the kinks. Today, the food was disappointing for both myself and my husband. My husband ordered carne guisada, which had to be sent back because it was too salty. Management acknowledged the first batch was bad, but still sent out the second one, which was even worse. (My husband settled on the fried avocado after two bad batches of carne guisada, but it came out after I had finished my meal.) I had the Bailito, a combo platter that included chicken quesadillas. One of them had a piece of bone the thickness of a coffee stirrer, and about an inch long. The waitress quickly took the evidence back to the kitchen and replaced it with new quesadillas. I was afraid to eat them, after nearly cracking a tooth on the first batch. The manager was very nonchalant about the chicken bone. He didnt do anything to make it up to us. Nothing in our entire meal was comped. We both have restaurant experience, and we know what to reasonably expect. The server, herself, was not as attentive as we would expect at a restaurant like this. This was during a downtime, and she took forever to refill our tea. Lesson learned: Its worth the drive to go out to Happy Takos instead. Its a little further out, but their customer service AND food are much better.

The halal food is fantastic and I love that they offer it! However, the to go wait is just too long, even when ordered a half hour in advance. Previous times I realized items were missing from my order. One time there was no salsa and another time there were no tortillas with my fajita order and I had to go back. I live nearby so it was fine, even though it was during Ramadan. There never is anyone at the to go counter and you just have to wait until someone comes by. Yesterday, the same thing happened where my order was missing tortillas and beans. I always check the order now and I went back immediately fix the error. The manager was apologetic and helped correct the error but the wait can really be a while These arent even large orders, one large halal chicken and beef fajita order and one small beef fajita is usually the order, and its about $72 that is spent The servers always try to help when they see people waiting at the to go counter but theres only so much they can do since theyre with their own tables. The to go just needs to have a designated person and orders really need to be complete when given to the customer. I can think of the last three instances where items were missing and I always hope the next time it will be better and more organized, but so far it hasnt

I have visited this location frequently and tonight was a miss! Restaurant appeared to be short staffed on a seemingly steady night! I wouldn t quite call it busy. The kitchen seemed to be on point as food came out quickly, but service was lacking big time! Had to flag someone down to take order, ask for salad dressing that never arrived with the salad ordered, and to go boxes.. Coming from someone that has been a General Manager for a extremely busy restaurant and hotels this was painful to watch! Ms. Rita, the manager with 40 years experience tried to charm and impress with her free queso dip card for next visit. I explained that my salad ordered came with no dressing. Wasn t able to eat it and taking it to go would be a waste because it would be soggy because of the lettuce. Her solution was, I m so sorry and a free queso dip card! What a JOKE! Ms 40 years the solution should have been let me make you a fresh salad and all would have been solved!

What an amazing experience. I want to give a special shoutout to Kaylah in the to-go area. I came in on June 25 to order some food for my family. This month is particularly difficult for me as I lost my 21-year-old daughter five years ago, and her birthday is approaching. Each year around this time becomes harder for me. 1st the wait staff was absolutely amazing, Kenia was super helpful, friendly and very suggestive and knowledgeable. The GM came to the table and talked with us and he was also super extra nice, my apologies for not remembering your name sir, We ordered so much food we had to take most of it to go, deep fried avocado, seafood enchiladas, taquitos, the sampler, the guacamole, the GM offered free enchiladas we sampled 4 flavors chicken, beef, spinach and pork all was delicious, we also had free sopapialla that was hitn also, the food we ordered was very very very good, the atmosphere was great no loud banging music, oh yeah on the way out the free ice cream cone was on point as well, I promise its worth a visit. Very first time went to this restaurant and got to enjoy authentic Mexican cuisine and was excellent. Plus point they have halal options. Although they have very small menu on the QR option for halal but if you want anything from regular menu they make it with halal chicken or beef. Service was excellent & the manager Rita was very helpful in making us comfortable in every way. I would highly recommend it so if you are in that part of city do try it. Cant say enough about this wonderful restaurant. The food is fantastic, the service is impeccable, and the vibe is what every tex-mex place should strive for. Management chips in to get drinks, clear tables, and are constantly checking on the guests. I love that all the employees have smiles and a great attitude. They have a nice variety of music played at a decent level, so you can rock out but still have a conversation. Chicken enchiladas are the best! I highly recommended the sour cream sauce. DH had the beef fajitas, and they were great. (I had double rice this time, however, usually comes with rice and beans.) Beef was cooked perfectly and pairs so well with the tasty rice and beans. Did I mention fresh made guacamole and Pico?!?! Everything is so fresh that you can smell each ingredient before you even eat it! Oh, and theres a soft serve machine to satisfy your need for cool on a hot Texas night. Johnny Tamales is the super hit on any day of the week.

We hosted my daughters graduation dinner in the private dining room. The room is very spacious and they also have 2 monitors where you can watch TV or cast from your own device. The entire experience was wonderful from beginning to end. The staff took great care of us and the food & drinks were delicious. There was a big reservation mix up on their part that had our party waiting about 45 minutes after our arrival time (and we were early). The food was decent for the price, but the service was not good at all. I actually ended up paying for an extra meal because I didnt have the energy to deal with the staff after such a fumble on out service. It took a long time just to get menus. We didnt see our servers again to get refills. Food is decent, but Ill never recommend this place.

The salsa was watered down. The food was not very good and it just seemed like an offerate Gringos the best part about my visit, was that the waiter at the bar was excellent and the manager checked on us to make sure we were good.

They forgot our drinks, fed us oil soaked chips, messed up the salsa, which is normally top-tier, and for some reason decided to serve us enchiladas without sauce (definitely would never ask for such a thing). Manager made no effort to remedy our experience.

Read bad reviews and wondered what these people were thinking? Im a tex mex lover and this place has instantly became a favorite. Me and my wife were looking for something different and we gave them a try. Food was great ,service was great. Look forward to going back again. If I had anything bad to say about jt is the fact that the green salsa doesnt have a kick to it. Not saying its not good but it would be great if it was spicy

Very nice take out experience. They let me pay from my car in the take out spot, and the togo man, MIKAL, was very nice and professional. I came here because they have homemade chicken and pork tamales! So hard to find restaurants that serve other than only pork tamales. I bet theyll be good too! I havent tried it yet, but I hope because they named their restaurant after a tamale that they will satisfy my cravings bringing these for my mexican grandma for Cinco de mayo! Yay

This was the first time my daughter and visited this place. Not only was the food delicious, but the general manager and manager came to our table to make sure we were good. Everyone was so so nice and accommodating. I would recommend everyone come out and experience great food and great customer service

The food was horrible!! I got the seafood enchiladas. The tortilla was not cooked, the sauce was dry! The chips that are normally fresh, were stale and had a white film on them. This is my third time eating there, and three times is not a charm. I ate there when they first open, the quality if the food was good. I do not know who is cooking for them now. But they need to be fired! You can tell they are not as busy. Since they are affiliated with Gringos, they need to shut the restaurant down for a day, and let the chefs from Gringos in Pearland show them how to cook and serve delicious food.

This is the first restaurant I ve been to that serves halal where the staff is actually educated on it! The service is quick and they do great serving large tables. Our server Mo was attentive and kind. They also have a self serve ice cream machine. If this restaurant was closer, I would be here often.

Went here and got seated super quick, clean restaurant and great atmosphere! Our server was Gabs, and she was amazing!! So knowledgeable about the halal options and careful to make sure we get only that! This is the second time we came here and looks like this might become a regular. Pretty disappointed. We went on Sunday afternoon, it was not at all busy. Our server Milan would have rather been anywhere but there, and it showed. Very inattentive, and all the enthusiasm of a wet sponge. We had to ask for things we needed multiple times. It took 10+ minutes to get our bar drinks. With the exception of the carne guisada, the food was pretty bland. Not terrible, but boring. Our orders were 50% wrong, as was our second round of drinks. Houston is inundated with quality Mexican food. JTs falls far too short for a return visit.

I enjoyed the food. It was packed but was seated within 3 or 4 minutes of getting there. My only issue was our waitress savannah I believe was her name she kept walking over to another table to chat who I assume was her boyfriend. Then walks him out and the older lady I think was a Manager sent somebody out to tell her to come back in. It was annoying and unprofessional, take my order and turn around and sit and talk to another guest. I will come back.

Johnny Tamales is a fantastic Tex-Mex restaurant with a festive atmosphere and a delicious menu. Their tamales are a must-try, and they have a wide variety of other dishes to choose from, including fajitas, enchiladas, and salads. I loved their starters, especially the beef nachos The service is friendly and attentive, and the restaurant is very clean. Ill pass. 1st visit-host walked us to our table, we waited over 10 minutes, nobody greeting us at our table, we asked another server for our server, she said she would check but she passed us again and never followed up. We frequent Johnny Tamales, living across the street we love the accessibility! We have tried a lot of the menu from the fajitas, tacos, enchiladas and salads. Everything is always fresh and delicious! My daughters love coming here especially for the ice cream! My husband LOVES the stuffed avocado, a must try! Definitely our go to Tex mex place! Parking: Lots of parking Kid-friendliness: They have a great kids menu and are willing to accommodate picky eaters. The free ice cream is a plus! While you wait they have a fenced in green space the kids can play in.

Went here for the first time with my siblings and cousins & the beef fajitas were amazing! Everything was fresh and everyone loved the food. They have an entirely separate kitchen for their halal food and the tortillas are also prepared halal! The staff was very helpful and pleasant. The restaurant is very nice and we enjoyed the atmosphere. They even made a virgin mocktail for my cousin, which she loved! Highly recommend!!
