This place needs a lot to be more successful but the main one is the food. First of all plastic utensils are a complete NO NO. Some of us had real utensils but about half had plastic which made handling the overcooked hard or burned food difficult. Tiny plastic kid cups were given to us when we ordered any type of drink but we were charged like it was an entire bottle. Also youll have more ice than drink. The chicken & waffles both were overcooked & the pancakes were burned so badly only the outer circle could be eaten. The chicken tenders were tough, not seasoned well & overcooked. And the fried cabbage I ordered were more like oversalted plastic, youd have to chew endlessly before digesting, it was tough & the absolute worst. I asked for bread & it was drenched with grease & it looked & tasted awful. My niece ordered a burger & fries & the meat was burned, lacked seasonings & tasted horrible. Even the fries didnt pass, they were hard & dry. The prices were unbelievably high for such inadequate food! To charge so much money for such poor quality food is just wrong. Make the cost equal the taste & no one will mind paying a lot, I sure wouldnt. The blackened fish may or may not meet your approval, one order was good the other one was bad but both werent worth the high price, Its not like we were at a 5 star restaurant with all high quality great menus. The inexperienced cook needs to be replaced or trained properly immediately. I have to say this though, the servers were kind, courteous & caring. One kind gentleman even sang a beautiful birthday song for the celebrated family member. We all ordered our food for the party we were attending but to our surprise, It took an hour & a half for our food to arrive & others even longer! So we didnt eat together as a group & that was the plan. Im sorry to say but our experience was a disaster. We dealth with this unsavory situation that day because we all loved one another & enjoyed each others company which made up for the bad experience. We didnt complain to management that day but I had to do this review to let the owners know, a change is extremely needed. So please, use this review as a tool only for a better more successful future.

I gave a low rating because overall, the event was a bit overpriced, and the details when purchasing the tickets were misleading. Considering I paid $25 to see the Chicago steppers perform, the event host was a bit pushy to have guests get up and dance. As for the food, it was fine, but serving drinks in plastic and styrofoam cups was pretty cheap for the cost of the drinks. Thats my last visit to Sugars. Id hoped that theyd actually made some improvements from my previous visit for brunch last year. The owner and manager should consider what their expectations would be when they visit another establishment and implement that at their own. Dont offer what you might consider below your standard if you were the customer. People are willing to pay for good service.

Went here for a comedy show that was supposed to start at 8pm according to the tickets...the headliner personally informed me we are starting late. There was a man who I assume worked the kitchen who kept coming to the floor in small black shorts and a tight white T, so its like sir where are your clothes. Thought he would have changed after 9pm when the show started, he never did. He was however behind the bar smoking hookah with another lady. I brought this up because the tickets advertised hookah in which she showed up after 9:30pm. The hookah had several complaints but thats not on Sugars. I will say it wasnt worth the $50. I never have a complaint on hookah prices bcuz thats your price but at least let it have flavor and smoke. The food was over priced. $24 for a shrimp basket for it to be 5 of them and literally served in a basket. Ordered etoufee sauce with my meal the lady brought it out after I finished my shrimp, almost 20 minutes later. The wings and waffles was 2 eggo waffles and of course over priced. We tried ordering their specialty drinks in which all of them were distasteful. I forgot to mention if you ordered water or soda you got it in a small Styrofoam cup but charged like you had a full drink when this is smaller than a kids cup. Next time I see this establishment as the venue I know to pass

If you are looking for an upscale date night location....this is not the place. I really was excited to visit, so let me start with the good. Great saxophone artist that performed and the food was okay. Thats about it. I had not patronized Sugars before, but my boyfriend gave rave reviews about it. Unfortunately, those reviews were from over a year ago. Once we entered the establishment it was obvious that the air conditioning was not fully functioning, so once we sat ourselves, my boyfriend asked the waiter to please adjust to a cooler temperature. The ambiance of the place and service needs to be revisited as there was one person who waited on customers, made and served the drinks, walked around singing, and most importantly got a few puffs from the hookah. The dirty menu looked like it had been chewed by an infant at the bottom and there were no tablecloths on the table. I requested chicken strips, on a Wednesday night just for a starter, and was told they were out. Once the food I ordered was delivered it came in a Paperboard Basket without any silverware. Since the waiter was making drinks and I didnt want my food to get cold, I had to go to the bar and request the silverware for the table. The waiter eventually brought one set for the 2 of us, so we shared that one set. You probably get it by now......we had a terrible experience and will not ever, ever return or recommend to anyone we like, dislike or love.

Served buffet with no burners so inevitably all the food was cold. Drinks did not come until the end of meal so I felt as though I would choke. Undercooked chicken, leaking blood made my stomach turn. Mother s Day brunch/lunch and Dj played inappropriate music for the families in the establishment. Never played any music dedicated to moms. Expensive and my entire family felt violated after this nightmare. My wife, a mother, underwhelmed by the food is having to go get nutrition elsewhere. Please stay far away from this place.

Came here for Kenyan Embassy DC ID/Passport event. The atmosphere is really great, thank you to Owner Laban Opande for hosting the embassy for Kenyans in diaspora to meet our ID/Passport needs. The restaurant/kitchen opened earlier than usual to offer breakfast for Kenyans who came for official business. Over all, a well coordinated, painless, actually joyful event. Im truly grateful and will be back to Sugars. Thank you to embassy staff from DC and and thank you volunteers for coordinating even as you needed services yourselves. Much Appreciated

When youre advertising a bourbon tasting, its probably a good idea to have more than one bourbon to taste! My wife and I enjoy tastings of all kinds, but this was a first one selection tasting! I would recommend this place for reasonably priced good drinks and live music.... but only if you live in or near that side of town and not hungry. I visited last Friday. Had to flag down a server after several minutes of no attention given to our reserved table of 3. Its a cajun restaurant but i tasted no cajun seasoning in the fried fish platter... definitely not worth $24. Their online menu needs updating because the options and prices are not the same in person. My drink was nice and boozy. The female entertainer was verrryyy good. The music soulchild sounding guy was a lil pitchy but maybe it was a mic issue.

Nice place to pregame. TVs everywhere to watch different games at once. Food menu was limited and the catfish platter only came with one filet on top of overly salted fries. My wifes chicken was also too salty. The bartender made some very tasty drinks for us! He was very attentive to our needs, however, there wasnt enough condiments. Our waiter mentioned the establishment was under new management. Updating the menu online would help future patrons not be displeased because of the missing or lack of items on the posted menu. I came for the boudin balls that I got to enjoy when Eric Roberson came to sing about 2 years ago.

When I first walked in the place it smelled like sewage. I should have turned around and left right then. But I was meeting some friends there for food and drinks so I stayed: We ordered our food and it was horrible. I ordered the Fried catfish with a crawfish etouffée sauce. Why when the food finally came it was a soggy piece of fish with a flavorless gravy on top that was supposed to be a crawfish etouffee sauce? But it had NO crawfish or vegetables. Huh? And the bathroom was clean but the overpowering smell of sewage made me want to throw up. I absolutely will not be going back.

A miserable experience! We celebrated my moms 60th birthday here .. The service was poor, the servers had no urgency, I couldnt event tell if we had a designated server or not. Just had to flag people down when ready to order. Never got refills of water, had to go to the bar to get drink refills. We booked this dinner approx 6/7 days before and they had to go buy chicken AFTER our table made their orders. Literally telling us someone had to run to the store to buy more chicken. I ordered the catfish platter which included 1 piece of fish and 1 side for $25. It was a miserable place and management sucked. 0/10

I visited Sugar s years ago and had a great experience. This visit was anything BUT great. The atmosphere was nice, the waitress and bartender were friendly and attentive and the music and drinks were good. That s where the positive ends. We ordered at about 2:15, our food did not come out until hours later, one person never received their food. The food was not good. The chicken seemed to have been cooked in old grease and was fried too hard and almost everyone received food that was not hot but cold or luke warm. The rice in the gumbo was undercooked and the gumbo was watery. From what I understand, they had one person preparing food. We had a reservation for a large group, I am not sure why they would not have staffed themselves appropriately. I love to support but I will not be back.

I found Sugars to be 1 of the coolest spots of its type in Sugarland! The food was authentic and good, and the service was friendly and good as well. What sets Sugars apart from other similar establishments is the atmoshere! The owner is amazing! She greets you personably as if she has known you for years, even on the first meeting! She follows up frequently to make sure Are we (she and the staff) taking care of you, or is everything real good?

Went on Friday with a small group of friends. The vibe was nice. They had a gentleman performing live music, and what I found to be great, he gave us historical facts about the music he was playing. Kudos for that! I love to learn! I didnt have the food, but it did look delicious, but the drinks DID NOT DISAPPOINT! This was actually my second time going. I went before on a Saturday for a comedy show a friend hosts there. Didnt eat that night either, but again, vibe drinks I met the owner the first night I went. The atmosphere was great, the DJ was phenomenal however everything else was the complete opposite of the atmosphere and DJ. We arrived at 2:00 place our order at 2:15 didn t receive one of our orders til 3:30(the second order never came out). It was $22.00 for one piece of fish and $5.00 up charge to switch fries to another side. Then, people at the table ordered the same meal and it looked different on each plate. The manager came over and apologized for the time and for the other meal not coming out and discounted the ticket 20%. I paid it because i like supporting Black owned Businesses, because had it been else where we wouldn t have paid for absolutely nothing. Nonetheless, I will not return to this establishment nor will I recommend that experience to anyone.

My family and I will NEVER dine here again! The food was mediocre and way over priced. Was charged $2.00 per refill for drinks that were in very small glasses. Was also charged 20 percent gratuity for a family of five, twice because we split the bill! Completely ridiculous! The floors were sticky, there was a foul smell in the resturaunt, and the table didnt feel clean. The entire atmosphere felt unsanitary! Absolutey disappointing and I hate I spent a dime, but never, ever again!

Walking around with microphones singing.Tables are dirty, Finally when I said that I was going to cancel my order, that s when a manager came over to our table. Gave us our good free, but that s not what I came for. The food we ordered was grilled shrimp with fish, they ran out of shrimp. We were offered extra fish, didn t get that and the two pieces of fish we got were extremely small, with fries and the price would have been $27.00. Visited this establishment for the first time. I only had a drink which was really good. I did not like the idea that most of the staff was constantly vaping. Not a good look. After vaping, no one washing their hands. The bartender was vaping and after vaping, not once did she wash her hand. She hand her cell phone in her hand several time. No hand washing. They need to make that sanitary adjustment.

I called ahead to reserve a table for Mother s Day and thought all was going to be well. The reservation was locked in. When we arrived we were seated and the the nightmare of a day started. We waited and 45 mins just for water for 8 people. We did not get our food for an hour and a half. The food came out wrong. Many tables got up and left but I did not want to walk out in leave hoping the serve got better which it didn t. When asked for extra sauce for the meal, they brought out a small ketchup containers worth but charge $8.00. In addition the music was blaring so you had to yell to people just to talk or you just couldn t hear. There we small kids and that level of sound probably was not good for them for that long. Through all the terrible service, the food was decent however a bit over priced for what you got. Last but not least they charged $10 per person to enter only to give you severely poor service. They should have waived the $10 for how bad it was. My suggestion to them would be to plan better for events where the Resturant will be fully occupied. I would never take my family there again.

This is my first ever review. My family and I just lunch there on Sunday, which was only 1 other customer at the time. We order drinks, that took longer than expected. When we received the sodas we order, they gave it to us in a can (really?). We had to ask for a glass with ice, which the glass was plastic and old looking. The food took a long time to come out and it was definitely not fresh. The blacken shrimp was crunchy and only warm on the outside. My wife got the fried fish (dry) and crawfish (only 3). I could not believe the quality of this food at this price (pappadeaux prices). What was the finally straw. I must have missed it on the menu, but 4+ people they add 20% gratuity (5 of us). That is high, but okay. I asked for the bill and the waiter gave me the card ready to pay (apple?), which was on the tip screen. I added a 18% tip and it gave me a total. When I asked for the receipt, I notice I gave 38% tip in total. The waiter NEVER told me the tip was included, which he new what he was doing. Its been a year since I came here and I couldnt remember why I havent never been back, now I know why. So much for supporting this business. Never again!

I visited this restaurant last night. When we walked in a young lady said hello. We took a seat and we waited, and we waited and we waited. Finally the same lady was walking past and my guy said excuse me, can we have a menu? She gave them to us, asked about drinks, couldnt get his alcoholic beverage right, so she brought my water and he went to the bar himself. Fast forward, While eating I had to go back to the bar, where our server (same young lady) was conversing and ask for more water. A guy cleared our table and we waited, and we waited, so my guy went back to the bar and asked if someone could bring us the bill. There were about 5 tables of customers in the entire establishment so crowd and busy was not the issue. On another note, the band and karaoke session was great so that was the one star.

Sugars is clearly under new management that is intentional about changing the quality of service, food, and entertainment. I enjoyed the Blackened Catfish topped with etoufee, it took me back to Louisiana instantly and got me clearing my plate! They also recently added a Mombasa menu with some of my favorite foods from the Kenyan coast. Lots to explore and cant wait to be back!

So where do i start .. slow service. I visited this place 3/31/2023 my first time and last. First they only had two people in the kitchen preparing the food for the whole restaurant. When the food did arrived it was fried in old grease. They charge you $10 for drink in a very small plastic cup. After waiting for our food for about 1.5 hour I just cancelled my order. The was band ok! Yea they need hospitality training. It was just the worst.

Went to Sugars a couple weeks ago for brunch with a group of 5 and had a great meal with excellent service. There is some construction on the exterior of the building and we almost left thinking they were closed. So glad we went in anyway! We all got different versions of the brunch special (chicken, waffles, eggs and grits), and they supplemented cauliflower in leiu of chicken for me. The food takes a while, but its worth the wait as everything was made fresh to order and well seasoned. Would highly recommend!!!

The food was great, we had the loaded fries and catfish & grits. We went early evening on a Saturday and there was no crowd. The thing I disliked was there was no host to greet us. We stood there waiting as the workers were laughing and talking among themselves, I think management needs to do a better job with having everyone in position and ready to go when customers walk through the doors. It saddens me to have to leave this review. I was hoping for better. My mother and I went to have lunch and with only 2 servers and 2 cooks...we waited for about 1.5 hours for our food. It also took a while for silverware to be brought to the table. We both ordered the taste of soul plate and some macaroni and cheese. When our food arrived, my sweet potatoes and my macaroni werent hot. The flavor was good it just wasnt hot. I asked the waiter to heat up my macaroni bc it was cold. It took 30 minutes and me asking 2 more people about my macaron before I actually received it. The ambiance of the place and service need a lot of work for those prices. I feel like the servers were doing the best they could and they were friendly... But the ability to deliver food in a timely fashion was lacking. The people next to us... All got their food except for one person who had to get it to go because they brought it out after the others were done. We watched a waitress flip a table cloth over rather than replacing it with a new one after a table left and the plates and glasses were cleared. We were very disappointed in the service and will not be back. I blame management for the lack of service. The new location needs a remodel and updating. New signage is also needed. The ability to order and pay online is clever, but that should make service even faster and it didnt. They added a 20% gratuity automatically and it was not a 20%/gratuity situation. I hope customers will demand better service and I hope this feedback will be put to good use to improve the customer experience for others.

Two stars for the food. I ordered the catfish and shrimp meal, none of which was anything to write home about. Both the catfish and shrimp were heavily floured, with minimal seasoning. We also ordered hot wings, which were hard and seriously over cooked, we tried to eat them but decided our teeth were more important. To order, you must scan a QR code and order via the Toast app. Initially I wasn t thrilled by this process, but decided it was a convenient way to order. Plus, it made it easier to order additional items from the bar or kitchen. One problem with this method our server didn t stop by our table to check to see if we needed anything else. We had to flag down other servers for items, such as eating utensils, glass for beer, napkins, hot sauce, etc. We did enjoy a fantastic concert, and I will return to enjoy others, but would not stop by to eat.

This is my 2nd time coming and it was awful for the 2nd time. I will not visit again. Me and my mom were so disappointed. I dont ever write reviews but this is warranted. The food was worst than bad. The gravy was so thick like mud. The rice was well done. The gumbo taste like they added vinegar to it. The smothered chicken was fried chicken with gravy on the side. The server got smart with my mom and then came to apologize after the owner or manger addressed her but it wasnt sincere. In my 51 years, I have never not tipped but I cant tip her 20%. I purchased tickets for a concert that was postponed/cancelled. The tickets were a birthday gift for my brother. I received an e-mail that said the event was postponed. My brother showed up the day of the concert, after calling and being told that the show started at 8:30, only to be told that the event was cancelled. The concert was scheduled for February 25th and to date, the event has not been rescheduled and they will not issue a refund. I have reached out to Mr. Austin numerous times and he will not return my phone call nor respond to my e-mails. A young lady by the name of Tamaya screens the phone calls and is rude and unprofessional. I am sure she is following the instructions of Mr. Austin. It is unfortunate that Mr. Austin is so ghetto and unprofessional. I do not recommend patronizing this place.

Update (long because Im so disappointed) - The live music is great, actually fantastic. I would suggest you have your dinner and drink before arriving. SERVICE IS HORRIBLE! The staff have attitudes and bring your food when they feel like it. This past weekend my friend and I went to enjoy the brilliance of Corey Stoot. The waitress told us that we had to scan and order. I asked her about the service charge mentioned below. She informed me that it is 18% gratuity. I asked was she sure my last receipt included a service charge so I added gratuity. Essentially, I paid two tips. She assured me it was gratuity. I thanked her and explained that I didnt mind the gratuity and went on to place my order. And as she informed me, the system was updated to show gratuity instead of service charge. Sadly, the waitress appeared to dislike my questioning the system and retaliated. She brought my friends drink but not mine - I only had a beer which was brought by another waitress after asking for it. My friend had her food for at least 20 min and I had none. After about 30 min I told another waitress (the curly haired, sweet one) that Id like to cancel). She professionally asked that I let her check on my order, if it was up shed bring it to me if it wasnt she would get my waitress to cancel. She came back and said it wasnt up. Minutes later rude-nasty waitress appeared with half-cooked slider burgers on cold, hard buns! In an effort to be considerate, I asked for mustard - they had none. I bit into the slider and it was AWFUL! I waited for rude-nasty. She would hurriedly pass our table and turn her head as she was passing. I got up and walked over to be bar-kitchen area to request a refund. Again, rude-nasty walked right past me. I had to literally stand in her pathway to get her to speak to me. She passed me a couple more times and appeared with a supervisor who seemed nice and said she would refund my meal. Unfortunately, this has been my service experience on nearly every visit. Ive been going back for the live music. Sadly, after this experience which is the standard for this restaurant, I will not go back. If I do, I will eat and drink before arriving and I strongly suggest you do the same CONS - You have to enter Cc info before building your cart and you do not get a total until after you place the order, but prices are listed as you add items. And ordering is a pain. Pros - 3 stars for the entertainment. For the first time in about 7/8 visits, service was great. Kudos to the new smiling waitress with curly hair. Cons - guests are encouraged to scan ad pay at the table but are not told theres an additional fee ($1.94 for my order, ~20% of the food price) for that service.

I was disappointed with my food. I ordered Cajun pasta with chicken. The chicken was extremely dry and the pasta itself tasted like someone dumped a bunch of spicy seasoning into jar spaghetti sauce. This restaurant is poorly run, completely unorganized, food quality is bad and prices are over inflated for the experience. I was at this restaurant for a show and everything about the evening was terrible from the band playing 2 hours late to getting food poisoning. NEVER GET THE GUMBO! First I reserved tables 22 & 32 when we got there they had a party set up with table 32 so they added chairs to table 22 barley could move my knees. This is the most God awful place. Terrible service & worse drinks. My home girl got super sick from the new bar manager s terrible Bloody Mary recipe. The bar manager was rude & childish. The food was awful too. Several people in our party were sick after eating the shrimp pasta. Lastly the BM tried to accuse us of stealing a $10 margarita! Went on a date for a Guordan concert. Vibes were great. Slightly older crowd . Only qualm was the items (oysters) I was interested in on the menu was unavailable . Settled for a salad. Concert was kinda short as well.

I just wanted to let you that this Black establishment doesnt honor BIRTHDAY WISHES. My Daughter brought me tickets for concert I wanted to go to for my birthday back on November 12. Unfortunately I wasnt able to go due to a aliment I was having during the course of the day. I reached out to a staff member and explained my situation and he told me I wouldnt be able to get a refund for the tickets and I told the staff member that I understood that and I only to see if it was possible to find another concert I could attend at a later date. So after I found after that I wanted to go to the staff member told me that it would be a difference in so I paid the extra price and he texted me both receipts. So fast forward to Dec 3. the day of concert and i called to talk to the staff member who sol d me the tickets but to come and find out he no longer worked there he was let go but in the interim of the situation the staff member told me to call
