My wife and I had a great experience at this park, our first time here. The young lady working in the visitor center was very knowledgeable and friendly. After I told her I am a veteran, she asked if I was a disabled veteran and when I said yes she took the time to get me set up with the state park pass. The rest of the staff was great as well. When they saw us walking in the park they asked if we needed a ride on the tram to our next destination, which we declined because we were there to get some exercise. The park itself is has some great trails and they are very clean. We heard the birds more than saw them, but I did manage to get a picture of a great hawk in flight right above me at the observation deck. This is also a great place to get a bike ride in, which I have already planned with a couple of other veterans. Great park with great employees. Keep it up!

This place is so cool! It was probably the largest state park with plenty of trails along the Mexico border. It has access to closed off portions of the Rio Grande as well as current portions of the Rio Grande. It has great spots for fishing and hiking. Both of which are handicap accessible. The hawk tower was fantastic. It was much higher than I was anticipating. I would definitely come back here when the butterflies and birds are migrating. Definitely worth a stop.

SO MANY MOSQUITOES!!!! The park store employees seemed annoyed. Could have been the mention of the massive influx of inchworms and mosquitoes. Recommend going to this park in the fall and HIGHLY recommend wearing citronella or lemon grass oils on your clothes and/or any exposed skin. Deep Woods Off worked as well as sugar water!

We heard about the restaurant there so we went to check it out. They have this really neat little Bristol there. They didnt have their full menu yet as it wasnt full on winter Texan season, but what they did have was good and reasonably priced. As my wife and I are handicapped, the walk from the parking lot was about all we could manage. They do have a trolley that toures the park which we plan on doing in the future. The restrooms we large and clean. Small but interesting gift shop. Every one was super friendly and helpful. High on our list for a return visit.

This place needs attention. Being in the RGV it s always hot, they should have water fountains around the park incase you run out of your own water. There s not much patrolling going on, so if someone needs medical attention, Good luck. This place used to be awesome when you were allowed to bring in your vehicles.

Awesome State Park located next to the Rio Grande is great for so many reasons. Starting with the staffing and the tram drive thru the park. Bikes are available and is suggested as the park is large and has paved paths. The gift shop is well stocked and is surrounded by many feeders to attract birds of all sorts. Make sure if you come to bring or buy water and bug spray!

The park is a great park with loads of wildlife. There are no cars with the exception of law enforcement and park personnel, so walking is safe. The park has restricted fishing to a now defunct boat ramp with vegetation around it. Very narrow slot that only allows one person to fish at a time. Large lake, so the restriction seems unwarranted and designed to restrict usage. The original gate office is closed, and the gates to the park are locked. The new office is nice, but probably about 300 yards from the old gate. With no parking within the park, it really adds to distance walked. I would highly recommend taking plenty of water. The trails are well marked and maintained. Toilets: There are great clean restrooms near the office. There are also some within the park, but Im not sure if they are air conditioned. Dog-friendliness: Dogs are allowed, but watch the heat and hot pavement. I would recommend bringing them a bowl and water. They are required to remain on the leash, and swimming is not allowed. Picnic area: There are plenty of picnic areas, including a large covered pavilion. They all require walking a long distance, so pack accordingly.

(Whos going to hike in a generator, A/C unit, and TV?) The facilities are clean and maintained with plenty of cycling and hiking options inside and around the park. A popular cycling route and trail network runs right by the entrance to the park. There is an abundance of wildlife in the park that can be seen even from the roads. The only down-side is that there is often noise from across the river, outside the park, late at night.

Beautiful park and a great place to walk and enjoy. We ended up treking about 8 miles as we weved through. Lots of different kinds of birds and wildlife. We got to see roadrunner, turkey, hawks, and many other unique birds to the area. The border wall was a bit of a eye sore but no fault of the park. I would come again. Lots of places to picnic and simply relax. Primitive campground looks pretty tight and sites are VERY close to each other.

Needed to photograph the Brasil tree so l went over to Bentsen. To my surprise I was greeted by a family of turkeys. I also look out for the blue lizards in the entrance to the park. Beautiful creatures. The staff is always helpful and cheerful so dont forget to say a joke.

We had such an amazing experience at the B-RGV state park; we came after a trip to the National Butterfly Center so we were a little tired and had 2 little girls with us. The sweet ranger in the gift shop recommended the tram and hoo-boy I m so glad we listened. Ranger Roy was our driver and he was simply incredible; now the tram is just intended to be a shuttle from attraction to attraction but Ranger Roy let us ride around the whole park and spent plenty of time talking to us about the species in the park, even pointing out cool birds as we rode by. Ranger Roy is a treasure and if you visit B-RGV state park, I hope you get to meet him. We want to come back and bike through the park soon!! Thank you, we couldn t have enjoyed our visit more and we appreciate you making the trip so great for our littles!!

First time here with my fiance and it was amazing! Rented bikes to enjoy the day (super inexpensive, $5 or $10for 4 hrs I believe) and got to explore and enjoy the wildlife that we did get to see. Will definitely be coming here soon, with or without the family lol

Bentsen Rio Grande State Park has friendly staff and is run really well. I was hoping to ride the tram around the park but it is not available on Monday-Wednesday. I m actually glad it wasn t available because I rented a bike ($5 to rent) and rode around the park. I parked the bike in front of the trails to hike those as well. I didn t see any hawks in the park but Hawk Tower offers a beautiful view of the park. A part of the border wall between Mexico and the US is being built right here which is sad because I have a feeling the wildlife will leave the area. If you are a bird enthusiast, you ll love this place. I am not but still had a great time.
