Excellent food and a really good atmosphere. Really enjoyed. Pictured in the orange blossom and that was really unique and one of the best food items I have had in quite some time! Which is why this may be the only review I wrote for the year. I got that with my lunch special which is also a great combination. Check these guys out if in the area!

Most authentic sushi in the area. The specials were all delicious, and the Kanpachi in particular stood out. You can order nigiri that you can t find anywhere else locally which is awesome! The only thing that was a little awkward is the restaurant seemed overstaffed, and as soon as we received our food a handful of them stood right next to us and watched us for an extended period making it slightly uncomfortable to eat and less intimate to have a conversation. I m sure this was because they weren t busy, but not sure why they had to stand right there. Overall, highly recommend and will be back.

Excellent sushi. If you truly understand and care about the quality of the fish, you will appreciate the art of these sushi sensai. This is not your American sushi fusion fusion with lots of sauces to cover up bad fish. This place lets high quality fish do the talking and the sauces and adornments are a bonus for the palette. Yes, the best is worth a little wait. Sooo good!

The food was good, but it wasn t amazing. The fish tasted fresh. Service was great and staff were kind. I like that they cut the handrolls in half for us because they knew we were sharing. I just wasn t really wow d by anything Would recommend their sushi/sashimi over their handrolls actually. I was disappointed by how much mayo there was in the scallop handroll - couldn t really taste the scallops. Setting was a little bit awkward. It s mostly seating around the sushi bar - which would be fine - but can be awkward when it s emptier.

I eat quite a bit of sushi. If I were a fish I would be honored to have Heian be my demise. This is high quality fish. Last time I went the salmon had an amazing buttery quality. For the mindful, it is an amazing experience to focus on those tastes and mouth feel senses with the eyes and ears closed. If you hate brussel sprouts, I say give them a try here as they dress them up with an amazing sauce with sweetness and caramelized brussel sprouts. I get it every time. You just may love them too. I cant rave enough of their special menu. Twice I found riceless options that you cant get elsewhere. For the adventurous, you can be adventurous every visit. All I can say is that I read the description and scratch my head, wondering how some of the ingredients pair with each other. I can tell you it all makes sense when you taste it. That is what I appreciate the most about Heian. They value their craft and quality. They are amazing at their craft and it shows in their quality

Unexpected location for such an upscale Japanese restaurant. The dining area was spotless with good lighting. Servers were polite and the speed of service was perfect. I hear it gets busy here at night, which impacts the wait times between items, but so such issues for us during lunch. The miso soup and kushiage set were both excellent to pair with the handroll sets.

We came on a Saturday afternoon and it wasnt busy at all! The sushi chef and staff were so nice and attentive. The sushi was fresh and sooo good! I usually judge a place on their ama ebi (sweet shrimp) and if its really fishy or not but theirs was so good!! My dad had the uni and he said it was a touch sweet, super fresh, and had that perfect sea saltiness. They also had a yuzu truffle scallop and toro dish that was amazing! Their regular salmon is automatically salmon belly and their tuna is bluefin tuna! Great quality and service. I cant wait to go back!

I just lost my appetite and cannot eat when I saw Chefs and server behaviors. First, all food preps and cooking was done without food safety, like hats, uniform and .... Second, server dropped chopsticks on a floor in front of us. Picked them up and swapped them with another seat set up. !!!!He placed chopsticks from the floor to another ready for guest seat!!! Crazy and unbelievable!!!! Did not wash hands and just continued to work with food.

My husband and I frequent Heian at least once a week. It has quickly become our all-time favorite restaurant. Where to begin? The food is impeccable, the fish is of the highest quality. The hand rolls are unmatched. I ve had some of the best sushi in California and nothing I had even compares to the quality of Heian! The service is also great. Most of the staff remember us now and are always friendly with us. We ve never had a single service issue. Lastly, the place itself is so cute and inviting. I d call it a hole-in-the-wall since one might not expect this kind of restaurant in this shopping strip. But it really is a one-of-a-kind, incredible little restaurant! Give it a try!! PS I don t understand the poor reviews regarding price. The food is FAIRLY priced given the quality. No, it is not a cheap spot - and thank goodness, because then it wouldn t be so outstanding!

I was surprised to see a higher end sushi restaurant pop up in McKinney. The restaurant was well decorated and the wait staffs were very nice and attentive. I feel that their setup reminded me of Kyodai Handroll & Sushi Bar and the price range of their food was also similar. I tried their $80 Omakase, which was a 7 course meal that starts with a miso soup, followed by tuna/salmon sashimi appetizer, then an assorted sashimi, an assorted sushi, 2 handrolls and finally an ice cream dessert. The miso soup tasted common, but the tuna/salmon sashimi appetizer was quite enjoyable, especially after it was mixed with the sauce at the bottom. The assorted sashimi was very tasty. The assorted sushi was mostly great except the last piece that was a bit tough and chewy. I felt that I enjoyed the handrolls the most and I ordered the scallops handroll and unagi handroll. The green tea ice cream was also very good. I felt that their omakase was obviously not the best Ive tried, but for the price range, it was a very enjoyable experience.

Lovely restaurant with a traditional Japanese setup where everyone is seated around the chefs as they prepare your meal. My friend and I tried their omakase. They give you miso soup, an appetizer, sashimi, nigiri, two handrolls of your choice and dessert. The food is excellent and the chef explains the elements of each dish they hand to you. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. If youre not willing to pay for the omakase, they offer plenty of handrolls and other options where you can mix and match different types of sushi. They also have a nice selection of alcohol, but neither of us tried those. Highly recommend checking this restaurant out!

We were very pleased with our experience at Heian. We enjoyed all of the sushi and handrolls, but the toro and uni were among the best weve had at any price point. Presentation was nice and staff was friendly. The nori for the handrolls were perfectly crispy. My only negatives are that the karage and takyokai were underwhelming (Ive had better at a Japanese grocery store) and we felt the seating at the bar was a little bit too high for comfort. Overall, the friendly service and amazing sushi/handrolls more than made up for the slightly uncomfortable seats and fried appetizers.

Came on a Sunday around 7pm & the bar was completely full, so we were seated at a regular table. We were about to take our business elsewhere when the server finally came over to give us menus. We were told that since we were not sitting at the bar, our rolls would be regular rolls instead of the signature ones because the freshness of the special prep method of the wrapper couldnt be guaranteed. We enjoyed the mackerel appetizer & the yuzu sorbet but the rolls were nothing special, bit lackluster. Havent decided if Ill come back to try their signature handrolls.

10/10 experience from start to finish! My first comment when we sat down, was wow, everything looks and smells so fresh . And the food definitely lived up to that standard. I loved the community seating vibe, with the seats facing the chefs. Each server was extremely attentive, and every staff member was friendly and service-oriented. I felt like we had been there before simply from the ambience and service alone, despite being my first time dining with them. Every menu recommendation was excellent, and the sake that was suggested was fantastic. My favorites were the crab and salmon hand rolls, and the Chutoro sushi. I really enjoyed the piece on the far right of our stair flight, but I can t remember what it was exactly (sad). The main attraction was definitely the sushi stairs. I love that this establishment has brought such an authentic and interpersonal place to McKinney. It is definitely worth the drive if you aren t local, but if you live close by you need to check them out. They have only been open for a few months, but you would never guess it. Thank you to all the staff members, keep doing what you re doing!

Had dinner here with a friend on Sunday, June 4th, around 7pm. Food was okay, but service was really lacking and quite disappointing. When I arrived at the restaurant around 6:40pm, the bar was full and there was one table with four seats open. There was no greeting from any of the staff and there was another lady standing right by the door waiting. For about five minutes, I was just standing there with no idea if I should be seating myself or if Im supposed to wait for the staff to be seated. I ended up asking the lady standing by the door with me and she said that she was waiting to be seated as well. During this entire time, the staff making the rolls looked at me, but no acknowledgement was made. After waiting a bit more, a staff member finally came over to ask how many people were in my party. While we were seated and eating, the staff was pretty distracted the entire time and focused solely on a couple sitting on the other end of the bar. Im assuming its because the couple were taking pictures of the food to be posted online. But even so, there are still other customers in the restaurant. We were kind of just left sitting there, waiting for the staff. I watched a staff member make our rolls before grabbing a cup of sake and walking straight back to the couple to chat. The father of a family across from us was also watching the staff. Not only has this service been disrespectful to the other customers, its also unprofessional. They opened fairly recently, so hopefully their service will get better, but until then, were going to stick to Kyodai and Kinzo.

Sunday dinner at 6pm. Located in McKinney in an unassuming plaza is new restaurant, Heian (Hey Anh). Leading the way is Chef Jun who has worked at a few notable sushi restaurants around DFW, now has his own spot! The space is open and decor is eye appealing. Staff is friendly, greeted us immediately upon entering and sat us right away. The food was delicious. Hand rolls were flavorful, nori (seaweed) was crisp, rice well seasoned and plenty of filling. We sat in front Chef Jun tonight and he made us a variety of dishes utilizing fresh cuts of fish. Everything was delicious. Toro was fatty and yummy. Uni so fresh and buttery. Barracuda was firm and flavorful. Check out the photos! Please if you love sushi, check Heian out asap.

We ordered the salmon hand roll, shrimp hand roll, fried sweet potato and salmon sashimi. The food was really great. High quality ingridients. We came when it wasnt busy so food came fast. My only complaint is the food is expensive. 4 pc of salmon sashimi for $14. It was really good and presentation was great. The salmon is lightly seared on top of sesame oil. I would get again if Im in the mood to splurge. Each hand roll is about $6-9. My friend got takoyaki and he liked it. So I would recommend this place for sure as a small bite or if you dont mind spending for sashimi.

1) They source from Regalis, so the ingredient quality is pretty solid 2) The older sushi chef is ATTENTIVE. He noticed my mom gave half her hand roll to my dad because it was too spicy and made her a different one. We werent even going to ask, so that was really nice of him.

Definitely one of the best Handroll places in dfw. The nori is fresh and crispy, fish is fresh and they do a lot of their butchering/knife work in house. They are definitely willing to go off menu with special requests if they have the ingredients. Always sit at the bar. We will definitely be back.

Heian specializes in hand rolls. They dont have your regular sushi rolls. They have a really simple menu but they really invest into the quality of all of their dishes. They recommended that I sit at the bar because they serve this fresh, crispy nori that you need to eat as soon as you get it to enjoy it at its best, which I did. The nori was got the set of three rolls. The crab and salmon was fresh and the spicy tuna wasnt very spicy but was very flavorful. Loved the salmon nigiri (they put just the right amount of wasabi in it) and the garnishes that came with the sashimi actually added to the flavor of the sashimi. Staff were super friendly and attentive.

I cant believe we have this level of dining experience up in McKinney. The food is immaculate, the service is top notch, and the ambiance is what youd normally have to drive to North Dallas or Ft. Worth for. Go experience it for yourselves.

I moved from California to Texas three years ago. About 1-2 times a week, I often went to this Japanese restaurant in California and even after the move, I went to popular restaurants in Texas. After some time, I finally found a great place to go to. If you want a pleasant meal, I strongly recommend Heian. The fish are fresh and it blends well with their special sauce, ingredients and garnishes. The crew are so bright and nice so they make me smile. I believe that Heian is the perfect place for me. It is a good restaurant that not only satisfies the taste but the atmosphere and service is amazing : )

What an experience!! Didnt have much expectations. But wow!! The most fresh/authentic sushi/handrolls ever! I havent had good experience with good sushi place but this places it. Finally found a place to enjoy sushi. We started with Brussel sprouts. It was crispy and delicious. The shrimp from the shrimp tempura was huge! Not like 50% batter but it was like 90% shrimp with thin crispy batter. Loved it. The uni came with a different seaweed and it was speechless. Now we dont have to drive all the way to uptown/downtown area.

High quality ingredients, friendly staff, incredible flavors. You can taste how fresh the fish is, prepared so well! I tried the Kaisen creamy handroll which was a mixture of baked shell fish then chef brazes the top with a torch! Delicious and you cant go wrong with anything and they have a wide selection of sake. The Brussel Sprouts are also so happy to have this spot in my community

Fish is super fresh, service is friendly without being overbearing and the price is just right! Chefs are experts and prepared all of our pieces with skill and care. Appetizers such as the Brussels sprouts, octopus salad and takoyaki were delicious and just the right size. They made me a special birthday piece with uni, Truffle and caviar that may be the single richest bite of sushi Ive ever eaten. Bathrooms are clean, check out the cute soap dispenser at the sink! Make sure to sneak in here for their soft opening before everyone figures out they dont have to drive super far for high quality hand rolls.

I had a special time where I could feel the freshness of the thick and fresh sashimi, and the seaweed of the hand roll made quickly at the sushi bar was very crispy and delicious, always being carefully taken care of on the side. I was able to try types of raw fish that are not available elsewhere, it was a truly special experience.
