I love academy! I buy all of my barbecue needs from there. I do get worried when I go in. It seems like its pairing down smaller and smaller. Hope they arent going out of business. Shelfs are partially full I dont know but its the vibe I get when I go there. Hope not

09/29/2024 today at 12 noon, I had a bad experience with one of the workers on the hunting side.the worker was rute and angry, and he talked to me in front of my 6 years old and 4 years old childrens, so bad,he says stop your kids tuching the boxes and difrent stuff, and they are not putting back, (so loudly),just my kids played and enjoyed the store.and they didnt do anything wrong!!!!.my kids got upset !!! I was an academy customer and academy member for a long time.i believe I had bought over $12k sports goods from the academy in the last few years. But I am not shopping more from the company. They do not respect customers .......

We ordered a fish finder online for in store product, only to be told after we arrived to pick it up that they could not locate it. We waited and drove a total of 2 hours. The store is dilapidated run down, and dirty. The parking lot had trash everywhere and the staff was just standing around. The store manager said he could not helpus with this becauseit was online purchase. He would pass it along. HE SHOULD BE FIRED. And someone who knows how to manage a store should help this place. I Do not recommend the academy in Mckinney for any of your outdoor needs to anyone especially your beginner or weekend worriers.

Tried to purchase a gun safe they had on a hot sale when I was at the register they said the sale was over and wouldn t honor the price even though it had a sign above the safe with the sale listed. When I walked back to the safe they were trying to take the sale signs down real quick. Store manager was rude and very unprofessional. The sales guy that worked there was like I m sorry I know it s wrong but out of my hand. Very disappointed in the false advertising and how the store manager Danny acted will not be back to that store I understand why everyone just buys everything online

This store is in a tougher location withs tons homless outside the store but the way the store itself is isnfalling apart nothing on the shelfs and the gas are very mean and heavily focuse on the front end meaning 0 employees around the other parts do your kids a favor and your family and head down to dsg allen tx

I hate this store for several reasons. Today I went in and found 2 pairs of Skechers shoes marked down on box for $35 each. The tag inside of shoes said $69. Signage posted in store said 75% off lowest marked clearance price. The shoes were $17.25 not $8.50. The box indicated the shoes I was purchasing by size, color and style with picture of shoe. I tried to explain my understanding of the sign and price of the shoes but it went to deaf ears. I could tell about his attitude I wasn t getting anywhere with him. According to cashier the store doesn t go by the box just the tag inside of shoe. So why keep the boxes and mark the prices on the boxes. I waited 25 minutes in line while several associates were running around the checkout area. If they were unable to run a register they could get find help to man a register. Really you guys could do better and state your policies better.

I dont recommend this store. I came in looking for some fishing poles, a kayak, shoes, some lures and I was checking out some guns as well. All in all I was ready to spend some money at this store. I wanted to take a photo of the gun that I wanted to purchase So I can talk to one of my friends whos a little bit more knowledgeable. I was told no. I wasnt even allowed to take a photo of the price tag. Anyways I then went around and looking at fishing stuff and all I had some questions and there was no one around. Theyre all sitting around the front door. The store is in disarray. What I went into the shoes is the most disorganized area. You would think that the boxes would be below the shoes that I was looking at but they were all mixed up. A lot of shoes that they are on display didnt even have in stock so they just put other shoes below it. Between not getting any help and any of the departments outside of the guns. Having a stupid policy for your guns. I am now driving to Scheels. I think my money would be better spent there. I hope academy follows sport chalet and sports authority and close down.

The shoe department at this store is very rude. I was running a LITTLE past closing because they only had one person in the whole department. We were checking out with the shoes we wanted and the cashier had no idea how to process an Academy gift card and then taking care of the balance with an Academy credit card. While we were watching this lady getting more and more frustrated, the Academy employee from the shoe dept called the front desk on the walkie talkie, telling the store manager, lying about me to the store manager. Absolutely hilarious and insulting at the same time. I guess this Academy has management that does not give a rip about customer service. Unfortunately typical these days.

My wife and I visited this store on 7/23/24. I was absolutely sadden to see this store in such disarray. We used tools that were provided for getting customer help to no avail. The staff all crowded around on register carrying on. Its a wonder what few shoppers there were didnt walk off with the store. And with a nice amount of homeless bums lurking and begging in the parking lot its a wonder anyone uses this place. Academy Im seriously disappointed no obvious oversite here. Shoppers save yourself time and effort here. And find a better place to shop that respects you and your business.

This is the worst organized store ever. Walmart has a better fishing section which is really sad! The clothing area is always in disarray and their always out of common sizes. Store has begun a shift away from real outdoors like it was and is focusing on sports and clothing more now. Firearms and hunting sections are shrinking down heavily. This location also likes to lock the doors 15 to 20 mins before close and roll the gates out as well which is a safety concern. Only 1 exit door is left open and un obscured. Doing this early and before closing and having no staff on the floor this early before closing is sadly a sign of the times as of late in customer service. The store has a bathroom but it is not cleaned well. Location is seen from the highway but not very well. Parking is available but the lot is in rough shape and has vagrants hanging around at all hours. Minimal accessible parking which has been even further reduced by order ahead parking removing some accessible spots. The parking lot is bad enough it interferes with accessible entry. There is a ramp but the trek to it is bad and makes it inaccessible. You can get what you need but that is starting to change with the changes being made to the store.

Blake at your location in McKinney, TX is extremely rude. I came into the store for an exchange of a Stanley cup. I had my receipt and product in hand. Blake proceeds to say he cannot exchange the cup because I dropped it. I nor the cashier who called him to approve the exchange mentioned anything about dropping the cup. He didn t offer any type of customer service or reason about not exchanging it even though it was within the 60 day per the receipt. Kelsey ended up helping me but Blakes demeanor was extremely disrespectful and unkind.

Sign in store and post on website says 10% off first purchase when joining rewards program. I joined the rewards program but the employee at the store said that they will only give it to us if we get their credit card. I went to someone else who said it was military discount only. There is a sign that offers 10% discount to military (definitely deserving) but still not what I was talking about.

Pretty solid experience here. Was able to find the shoes I needed plus a few other items - not very packed and we got to hear a about my hero academia from an employee at the register. Unfortunately our cashier thought that show was about volleyball but she was terribly wrong, this is why it deserved a 4 star. The cashier needs to brush up on her anime. Overall though, great place.

Tried to purchase a gun , ready to buy was told yes you passed background check , said I would have to wait 30 days because i was a flight risk . Been a american citizen for 58 yrs, the firearms guys act like your bothering them . Stephen helped us with picking out a kayak and also some other things we needed. He helped us out to the car with it and helped us get it on the roof rack. We talked about lakes to visit in the area. Nice selection, poorly managed. Tried to utilize their price match guarantee only to be told they don t price match to Amazon, when their website says they do & I had, funnily enough, utilized it to buy an item from this location earlier that same day, and that employee did match the price to Amazon. They were rude when they explained the actual policy to me, which is inconsistent with what their website says, and they went so far as to be threatening toward the employee that did offer the price match to me earlier. Really weird, I won t be shopping here again.

I am a 20 yr customer but will never go back after todays experience. I walked to checkout with approx $175-200 worth of Nike gear. But thats as far as I got. Ten folks in line ahead of me. Very little movement. Cashier is completely baffled by a coupon. Then the Point of Sale gear locks up. He keeps calling on the intercom for help...no response. The situation is getting tense. On by one the shoppers ahead of me leave their stuff behind and walk out of the store...mumbling to each other. I did the same . On my way out I saw the manager outside on his cell. I told him his store was in lockdown! Accepts no money!!! I will never shop at Academy again

Id have to say that I love academy because I love the outdoors and they have just about everything that you could ask for or be looking for ! Staff is wonderful if you have a question all you have to do is stop somebody and ask where its at and they direct you to the right spot. The prices are a lil bit above, but it is so well worth it! Even at Christmas time they still took time to take care of you they are great people there and its an awesome place to shop for anything outdoors camping River boating, hunting .. which I might ADD, Is ONE of My faves! But All in All whatever youre lookin for, ANYTHING, They HAVE IT !!

Been here twice in the past week. Both times had a 20 person line waiting to checkout and only 1 register. Watched atleast 15 employees walking around stocking shelves. I purchased bench seats for my team and upon trying to use them discovered that the screws had fallen out. I took me a couple of weeks to make it back to the store and they said that it had been a couple weeks (still inside 60 day return policy) and allegedly looked used. They also told me that there was no proof it was already broken when I bought it even though I told them it was faulty upfront and we couldn t use them. They refused to exchange it and now I m stuck with a faulty product that my team can t properly use. The clerks lacked basic logical skills in understanding. I was still well within return period and all they had to do was inspect inside the bag and see they were not in used condition and it was faulty. They then further refused to look up the purchase on my card. I did not want a return, I wanted an exchange for a non faulty product. I will not be returning and will go with competitors instead for my 3 boys and their athletic needs. Academy s loss for a dishonest exchange policy.

I recently had a negative experience at Academy Sports due to their high FFL fees. I was looking to purchase a new firearm, and I decided to have it delivered to Academy Sports. However, when I went to the counter to pick up my firearm, I was surprised to learn that Academy Sports charges a 110$ FFL fee. This is significantly higher than the FFL fees charged by other gun retailers in my area. I was disappointed by Academy Sports high FFL fees. If Academy Sports reduced their FFL fee to $10, they would generate more traffic and sales. 150-300 people would walk into the store each day to pick up their firearms, and half of those people would likely buy something else for their new gun. This would generate traffic and sales without Academy Sports having to pay for extra advertising. I would recommend that other gun enthusiasts avoid Academy Sports due to their outrageous high FFL fees.

Ordered online it said 1 left it allowed me to purchase 8/9 to pickup it said getting it ready I wanted it for a Rangers game 8/15 ok got an email delayed 8/16 ugh! So decided to keep went to buy somewhere else. Here then 8/17 no email to tell me it was canceled even I called store they had no idea? so I ended up chatting online they said FedEx delivered it on 8/11 poor customer service lack of communication and I end up with no tshirt and I have to wait 7 days for my funds . Will never buy from this store. Fair warning dont buy online at this location.

I bought some boots two weeks ago and it turns out that the toe came off and I come back at and they tell me that I have to talk to the company, Too bad Too bad, For years I have bought in this in this store, I think it is time to look for another store

We love Academy, but a lot of the time this store is out of inventory on the items were looking for. Unless you have to try your item on, I would suggest checking to see if its available online and doing in-store pickup.
