I love this place due to its old fashion sense, but the lack of a/c is a disgusting cesspool of smelly ranch chips, and I lie not... picked up covid the day I went to see crumb. Started off great, but towards the end, it got hotter than 95° degrees, making it hard to enjoy the moment. This place has so much potential to thrive and be amazing. The place can use a small redecorating touch or a face lift.

This historic venue is easily one of my favorite locations in McAllen. They host a wide diversity of awesome events. In my years of frequenting Cine El Rey I have never had a bad time. Ive seen movies, concerts, live theater, burlesque, pot-lucks, lucha libre, stand-up comedy, and community-engagement projects. The staff has always raised the bar with exceptional courtesy, consideration, service, friendliness, and even generosity. Whatever your taste, this place will likely hold some worth-while evening options for you. In short, Cine El Rey has earned my very highest recommendation.
