Overall this is a good Chinese food restaurant. The flavors and ingredients used are more authentic than many Chinese restaurants around. The reason for not giving them a 5 star rating goes down to service and atmosphere.

Not sure what happened to this restaurant. The food used to be so good and the prices were very fair. After the pandemic, things changed. The quality of the food went down and their prices went up. Lunch specials for Saturdays no longer exist and theyve even done away with Monday lunch specials. Now theyre even charging for paying with a credit card. Sad that what used to be such a great restaurant has declined so much over the past few years.

The food NEVER disappoints. For that sole reason alone, I go back. The prices are fair and affordable, and the flavors don t ever miss. My girlfriend and I often share their mixed Mongolian plate, fried noodles, egg drop soup, and sometimessss an egg roll. Their portions are good size too. It sucks cuz this place deserves a 5 for their food, but a 1 for their service. The owner or manager man always looks aggravated & talks aggressively. Recently, it took almost 10 minutes to be greeted and we were the only other party in the restaurant. Also the hosts are incompetent & don t seem welcoming at all upon arrival (I don t mean once, I mean every time I ve been). When being sat, they speed on ahead, leave the menus and walk away. Very, VERY piss poor service to an otherwise delicious establishment. (NEWLY ADDED: Directly to the restaurant owner that responded, what do you mean this is the wrong location ? I ve never been to the other location in Mission. Thanks for the apology I guess.)

My wife and I love Dai Tung, we usually go to the one in Mission since we have had some mishaps in the past here. We ordered take out, and I found a hair in my plate. I called to let them know and they offered to replace the meal. I told them I didn t want it replaced today because I lost my appetite, and I just wanted a refund for my plate. He said I needed to take the food back in order to get a refund, but I didn t want to take it because it s inconvenient for me to go all the way back. I asked if I could get a refund for the whole meal if I took it all back since all the food was going to be cold and for having to take the plate back for proof and they got upset. They insisted they needed to see the hair so I sent them a pic and the conversation is below in the picture. Terrible customer service. If you plan to do take out make sure to check the plates there or be prepared to prove their lack of cleanliness by returning the plate. We certainly will not be returning or ordering taking out from here.

Let s start or by saying our server was nice. He was busy, but our interactions were short but no complains. The Shrimp Lo Mein is disgusting. It has the salad tiny shrimps. They have absolutely no flavor. The Lo Mein is bland. It s just edible but not impressive at all. The noodles are also the fattest egg noodles around. They are the Udon noodles. I ve never liked those in my Lo Mein. The taste is also bland and not exquisite by any means. The chili oil is bad. So bad! It tastes bought or canned, fermented rather than fresh oil with fresh seeds/peppers. Without the right oil, the food has no hope. The chicken soup was a bunch of little strands of weird, different sizes of looking chicken. Some pieces looked darker than others which means they recycle chicken. It was so bad and had no flavor. It wasn t good chicken soup, and I know quality chicken soup, and that soup is a 0 or best a 1. The shrimp vegetable on a white sauce had hard carrots, and the gravy was not top notch in flavor. The shrimp were large, and I enjoyed those shrimps the best from all we ordered today, but even those shrimp could have more flavor. The plate has a rice bowl. The rice is disgusting, a zero. It has a cheap rice taste. They don t know how to make fried rice. It s too bad. It is not a top notch Chinese Restaurant, and their prices are high. I will not be visiting this Chinese location again. I remember the Mission one being good back in the early 2000s when I used to live here before leaving to SA and now back. I m not sure if they are the same owner, and I don t know if the Mission is still any good. However, I know it all depends on the chefs. This one was a disaster. A two is too high. If you re seeking good Chinese foods, this is not it.

Went to go have lunch with my son, halfway through our lunch I see two roaches walking down the wall, and I m talking about those roaches that carry their eggs on top of their backs . I look down at the table and see another one walking close to my plate . I tell my son and we both get up and leave. I tell the cashier about it and all he said was, oh ma am, I m sorry. NEVER AGAIN GOING BACK THERE!!!

First time here the other day and we liked it. We got some egg rolls, beef fried rice , orange chicken and general tso chicken and man. I think my favorite was the general tso, wish the orange chicken had the crunch that the tso did but it was still pretty solid. Fried rice was really good as well. Smelled really clean inside and our waitress was pretty attentive. Will be back!

I just had the most incredible negative customer service experience at Dai Tung. My wife and I have been here many time with no incident. Tonight, I ordered the Mongolian Triple Delight. I immediately noticed that the sauce tasted burnt or something in the dish had burned. They offered to make a new dish, however, my appetite was ruined at that point. I received the check and the dish was included, even though I had only taken only a couple of bites from it. I asked them to take it off the check. The manager (?) came over and told me that he had taken my dish back into the kitchen, tasted it (what???) and advised there was nothing wrong with it. Wow! Unbelievable! Have you ever heard of a manager tasting food from a customers plate? The implication was that I was mistaken or perhaps making it up. I asked the manager his name and told him I would be making a review. I had to ask him twice before he provided it...he said his name was Charles. Im not sure that was his real name. He was an older Asian man, glasses, unshaven, and had neck tattoos. I still cannot believe this restaurants response to my issue. I have since read many of the recent reviews and they lead me to believe that this restaurant is going downhill. Dai Tung...you have lost us as customers. I hope many people read this and will be on guard before going to your restaurant. Shame on you.

Ive been here a few times. Usually, I bring my mom as this is one of the few places that still have Chicken Chow Mein off the menu, but you can request it. We went for lunch right at eleven. The staff were very accommodating, especially since my mother has special needs. It got busy very quickly, which slowed our service as the meal went on, but we never felt ignored. The atmosphere is...dark. Dark but cozy, I guess. I had the crab puffs for an appetizer and the combo Mefan for my main course. The crab puffs were fine. The ends were a little burnt than I liked, and the wrap was thicker than other places, but not bad. It comes served with a side of sweet and sour sauce for dipping. The Mefan was good. For those who dont know, thats ultra thin rice noodles, stir-fried with other ingredients. Think mixed fried rice but replace the rice with noodles. The portion was generous, and overall, I enjoyed it. Dai Tung is still reliable and always worth a stop if your craving table service Chinese instead of the buffet experience. They have lunch specials, but the dish I got was full priced at 14 dollars.

I went in last week and ordered a large egg drop soup and shrimp with mixed vegetables to go. The food was delicious, along with the best and spiciest chili oil. The issue was with the service and gentleman in the front. I asked for limes for my takeout (I love lime on my food), and I was told that they don t give out limes on to go orders. I was kind of shocked so I asked again and was denied. I offered to pay for some, as I was paying extra for the chili oil already, same response. How can you not give out limes on to go orders? I was already paying $23 for my order, I would ve paid $25 total with a side of limes. Asked for a manager, the gentleman said there was no manager, asked for someone else who can help, he mentioned he was the one in charge. Paid for my food and had to return back inside for the chili oil that I paid extra for. No soy sauce or utensils that I had also requested.

Ive been here for lunch a few times without any issues until recently. Last week, I went with my wife. The food was okay, nothing special, and the service was just okay too. But heres where things went wrong. When it came time to pay, the guy in charge asked if I wanted to leave a tip. I said okay and told him to add $5 to my card. But later, I found out he charged me about $15 instead. Thats not what I asked for, and it left me feeling cheated. I wont be going back after this. I dont trust them anymore. Its a shame because the food and service used to be okay, but I cant support a place that doesnt play fair with its customers money. In short, while the food and service at Dai Tung might be alright, their shady payment practices make it hard to recommend them. Be careful if you decide to eat there.

We were very disappointed with our meal. This place used to be very good and would have been at least 4 stars in the past. Now, the egg rolls are frozen, or at least taste like they are. They are nothing like they used to be. The sesame chicken was dry and rubbery. The special wonton soup was pretty good. Its too bad, it was one of the last good Chinese restaurants left in The Valley. Its not anymore.

Not what it used to be. Just recently I returned after being away from McAllen for two years. I was very disappointed on what used to be hands down the best Chinese restaurant in the area. The portions have decreased in size and the overall quality is not great anymore. Egg rolls were hard and dry, the hot oil was heavily used and the chicken lacked flavor. I don t know if management changed or what caused the changes, but I will reconsider on going back again.

Before the pandemic, this was by far my favorite Chinese restaurant. Large portions & great quality at a fair price. During the pandemic, however, I noticed their portions on their daily specials were reduced. I can understand this as a result of maybe inflation, but what I dont understand or accept is the decline in quality. Once, I ordered a chicken with vegetables in white sauce. The sauce tasted old and bitter, and the water chestnuts flat-out tasted rotten. Just last night, I ordered a General Tso Chicken, and what I got were giant pieces that I needed a knife (which was not included) to cut down to a more manageable size and no broccoli (costs extra). Not only that, but some pieces were tough and dry, while others were not, which tells me that leftovers are being mixed in and refried with the fresh stuff. I always get carryout, but unfortunately, the cashier was not mindful enough that I would still need a spoon for the hot & sour soup and left out the utensils entirely since I asked for chopsticks. Why not give me both? I guess he assumes everyone goes straight home where they can use their own utensils. I guess Ill slurp it down like a dog, crossed my mind as it became the final straw in what once was a beautiful business relationship. Stingy, Overpriced, & Reheated are words that will come to mind when I think of Dai Tung from now on.

I ve been coming here for years, started out as me and my stepmoms special place to get lunch and catch up because of their quite/dim atmosphere but now it s my special treat. Their portions are huge and you ll have left overs for days! My order is the kung pao chicken, lo-mein and spring rolls, always great customer service ! Vegetarian options: Lots of tofu options Dietary restrictions: Great options for any vegans/vegetarians - everything is made to order so don t hesitate to ask for substitutions. Parking: Lots of parking Kid-friendliness: Great kid friendly options Wheelchair accessibility: Wide open area and plenty of tables.

Ive been to the restaurant a many times and I can say that everything Ive tried to eat there has been wonderful. I dont ask for a lot I get my meal water and then Ill pay for it and leave When they can I leave a tip But a few days ago I was deeply Disturbed I could not enjoy my meal at all or talk to my friend I should have got up and left Why? Because for some reason whoever he is the man there at the front door... Decided to come up to my table before I even ordered to come guilt-trip me into leaving a tip because I did not leave a tip the last time I was there In front of my friend mind you after already having a hard time at school I didnt expect to come to a restaurant to be reprimanded for not leaving a tip last visit I like the food enough to go back but that might not be for a few months So remember at Dai Tung you better leave a tip or else you might get in talked down too and embarrassed in front of your friends TL;DR: one of the employees decided to reprimand/guilt-trip me for not leaving a tip the last time I visited the restaurant...

It was delicious and just a tiny bit spicy. They did charge $1 for the hunan sauce, so FYI on any changes. We also got general TSO chicken. That dish was awful for our taste. The sauce was too thick and sticky, and the chicken was extremely salty. We couldnt eat it. The egg drop and wonton soup were good. However, the wonton was not what I expected. Im used to cabbage and bamboo shoots in my wonton, and this was just the dumpling in broth. The meat in the dumpling was good.

As for the food, they put too much corn starch in the egg drop soup so it looked gooey - the flavor was fine. The hunan shrimp was delicious. We also ordered chicken lo mein and that was good. We ordered what looked like crab Rangoon but thats not what it was called - there was little or no crab in it, which was disappointing - but maybe it wasnt supposed to have crab. Mostly, we enjoyed the flavor of the food, everything was hot and tasted fresh. We will definitely go back.

The food is mediocre at best. Ive definitely had worse, but this food is only slightly above mall food in terms of quality and taste. The price is certainly not justified. Im not necessarily surprised by this as this seems to be the norm for the valley...mediocrity. Perhaps the abysmal service and absolute incompetence of employees put a sour taste in my mouth as well. You *cannot* trust this restaurant to get your order right, nor care that they failed to provide correct and proper service. It seems that they themselves are aware that they cannot and likely *will not* get it right as they have gone as far as posting a sign to place the blame on the customer for not checking their own order before leaving. In other words, they cant do their job, and they know it. Do not expect any level of good customer service from management , nor for your kindness, patience, and understanding to be reciprocated. They are completely incapable. Would I eat here again? Begrudgingly, yes, and only because there arent better options.

This place is worth a shot if you love Chinese food! Went last week with a friend and we had the special. Their special is very fulfilling, comes with a few sides. The best part is that itd only around $8. I am definitely going back more regularly to this restaurant.

Im not much of a Chinese cuisine person, I prefer Japanese for the most part. However, this place is ranked highly for a reason. My husband and I went there for lunch and got their lunch special roughly 12$ per person. I got the shrimp in lobster sauce with steamed rice, an egg roll, and wonton soup. The soup was perfect, I dont like egg rolls but my husband loved it, and the lobster sauce was just incredible. This restaurant cooks with so much love and flavor that you can really see why it is such a popular place. I will say the staff/ customer service isnt the best, they are a little all over the place but that wasnt a deal breaker for me. We did order dumplings for appetizers and they came out so late that we ended up just taking them home. Overall, not a great experience but not horrible either. Paid roughly $30 for meal for 2 with appetizer

Don t ever order to go from this place right when they open. They will treat you like you are inconveniencing them and make you wait forever. Been going to this place 20 years and they do this. Sad.

They have a very vast menu and the prices are fair for the big servings that you get. Ive been there 3 times and the food has been great! Just a note to help the business: It would be nice if they remodeled their restaurant to look like the Mission location. The current aesthetic looks very old and dingy.

Great food, almost terrible service. Im going to try to keep this short. If youre looking for good service, dont bother, but if you can handle that then I highly suggest you try their Kung pro chicken. The front staff is very unfriendly. I get that sometimes there are long days, but this is every time I come in. Im talked to like Im a bother. And when my order gets messed up the apology I receive is very disingenuous. Also, if youre thinking about paying for extra things dont bother. Ive paid for extra stuff and got only a little bit more of what I bought when I paid quite a bit extra. To keep this short, try the Kung pao chicken, but dont expect Great service.

This is the 3rd time I m at this place, food is good. But I have to say that I m disappointed this time; it was my husband my children and I (2 adults; 2 kids) and as always in any restaurant we only order 2 drinks because my children never finish their drinks and some times we don t even ask for refills. So we were peacefully eating and suddenly the waitress tells me very rude that she s gonna have to charge me an extra drink because we were sharing the drinks and that we couldn t do that. I told her no body told us anything and that we didn t know about that; she didn t have the manners to talk to us; we don t even asked for refills on any of our 2 drinks and she still charged us for 3. If you as a restaurant are going to have this type of policy you should tell your customers since the beginning. This is the first time it happens to me in any restaurant.

This rates the worst Imitation Chinese restaurant I have seen. Food was bland, rice was dry and lumpy. We ordered sesame chicken, tough dry chicken tenders with a sauce dumped on top. I have never seen sesame chicken like this. Restaurant was far from the cleanest. Salt, pepper and soy sauce bottles hadn t been wiped down in quite a while.

Was looking for some decent Chinese food in McAllen. I found this place it had good reviews so off I went. I arrived there and was rudely greeted when I arrived. No hello or welcome? The waitress was snarky and had a attitude almost like she was doing me a favor. I kept my cool I did inquire about the lunch special and she replied its over at 3pm I arrived there @ 10 mins after 3pm. Thats fine rules are rules. Then I placed my order for chicken and broccoli and dumplings. She said with a straight face it will take 20 mins for the dumplings? Thats fine I said and asked while I waiting if I could get some complimentary chips or noodles that most Chinese restaurants give out. She replied no I can place you a order for some etc. Just got fed up with the snarky attitude and horrid customer service. I just walked out.

I was invited to Dai Tung Chinese restaurant for lunch by a good friend. The restaurant is located on Nolana and 6th Street in the Nolana Tower plaza. It has been around for many years in the same location, where many businesses have come and gone. The interior is pretty much the same as it has been from the last time I went, some 15 years ago. The menu carries the same distinction of not having changed much over the years. The food lacks the modern wow factor that we are always looking for but its not bad either. I had chicken with mushrooms and my friend had beef and broccoli. I also ordered egg rolls to go with my meal. Honestly, not alot of intense flavor with all bordering on bland, especially the fried rice. The portions are large and well worth the price. I would go again just to try some of the options that caught my eye and order steamed rice instead.

Called to place an order and the lady was rude on the phone. Went to pick up order and realized at home that they didnt give me one item. I called and the lady stated that she would have it ready for pick up, said I needed to speak to cashier so she put the phone down. I waited on the line for a few minutes and then the phone was hung up. I called back three times and no answer. I drove over there and both stated that I had already stopped by to pick up the missing item. After I insisted that i didnt pick it up,she finally went to the back to get it. Took another 8 minutes or so and came back with the missing item. It was chaotic and too busy and I usually dont care if the food is good but that is not the case here. Sorry but I do not recommend.

Please don t remove the cover off my straw for me. Remember these are COVID days and. I was completely surprised the the cost had increased close to 40% and when the inflation is only 7%. I understand businesses took losses during COVID but don t lose customers trying to make it up off of the few that come out. I m just saying.

They took forever to come to our table to take our order. We were here at 4pm and order was taken @430 which was a waste of whole 30 minutes so the food had to be taken as an order to go since I was running late to work (1hr break)then I was told there were no to go drinks but yet they served me a dine in cup although they prepared my to go food.
