One of the most beautiful sunsets you ll experience in Texas. We decided to drive up the gravel road rather than hike. Admittedly, we got tired halfway through the hike. We come here from time to time just to clear our thoughts are look at the beautiful horizon. Instagram: @ronnieandtucker

Few parking spaces on both side of the road with trails nearby. Then you get to the main parking lot where the restrooms are and some more trails. From there is 2.5 miles to the Sunset Deck. It is gravel/dirt road with a lot of bumps. I went there on a Harley, doable, but tricky. Beautiful view. Definitely going back but either way the truck.

Ive been visiting this place for many years, but less often now that a huge development has mowed down the trees across the street. Austin is growing, but it seems that we collectively made a bad decision to allow new housing to encroach here. Hopefully Texans will approve new funding for our state parks and the state can buy up some of the other areas that border this federal preserve.

Amazing lookout from about 1250 ft. with southern 150 degree views of the Colorado River valley and east Texas Hill Country. Easy drive from 1431 in Lago Vista and absolutely spectacular views! Go for the sunsets. The park closes and the gate locks at sunset but if youre already inside the gate will open to let you out after dark. Very short and easy walk from the parking lot to the overlook. Somewhat wheelchair accessible with a little help.

Sunset Deck offers beautiful views of Lake Travis and is easily accessible from the Ridgeline Trail as well as its own parking area. The deck is sheltered and easily accessible by strollers, wheelchairs, or other mobility-assistance devices. Enjoyable year round and at any time of day. The signage is also informative and educational. Highly recommend for all ages. All in all, a fabulous place to spend time alone or with family enjoying nature.

This is a must-visit spot for hikers and nature lovers. If you are not big on hiking or not in the health to make a far walk, you will still be able to enjoy the Sunset Deck as there is parking available right by the deck. My photo isn t the best and certainly doesn t do it justice (taken with an iPhone). To experience the real beauty of this place, you ll have to see it for yourself. It does get busy, so I recommend going on a day that is in the middle of the week versus the weekend if you want a chance at having the deck to yourself or to not deal with a large crowd on the small deck.
