I like the fact that you have to wait about 5 or 10 minutes to get your food. It comes out fresh every time. Not fast food. Theres nothing like fried catfish for some good old comfort food. Or if you want something a little more healthy, the blackened grilled catfish is excellent.

My husband and I decided we would go pickup food at RiverSmiths today expecting for our food to be good as always when we come and now mind you it s been a while since we came and ate here. Ordered 2 chicken bit dinner with side of cheese balls and fried pickles this was the outcome of my pickles !!!!!! I called and had a conversation with the manager but that was not going anywhere! The little lady at drive thru snatched my husband card out his hand and had a very bad attitude along with the ranch being watery! I don t know what s going on with some of these Restaurants but if your not going to have a good team and especially assist to the customers assuring everything is correct and dandy just do everyone a favor and shut down sad to say about this Lubbock classic but it s no longer how it used to be.

I regret not taking picture food!! But this was a great family meal place. Everyone was super friendly and walked us through the way to order and where the drinks were. You order at the front register and they bring it to you. We had the 3 platter fish, shrimp , some other fish with sides. After wards we tried the fire bread with honey and it was delicious!!

The college student took the time to answer my questions and gave recommendations when asked. Delicious food. The jalapeno cheese bites were a great start. My husband had the fried catfish and I had the chicken fried steak. Calvin, who I believe was the manager, came to us when the chicken fried steak was taking longer than normal and let us know the status. He provided excellent service. We ended up saving a little room for dessert and shared a slice of key lime pie, which was super yummy. Highly recommend giving this place a try.

There werent any descriptions on the menu, so I didnt realize that everything was heavily breaded and fried. The shrimp and oysters tasted like rubber, the hushpuppy was almost burnt, the roll was fried and nasty and fries just tasted like oil. The chicken fried steak was hard to chew. The meals were bland- tasted like flour and oil. I left most of my meal behind. My husband likes that kind of stuff and even he couldnt force himself to finish.

Had a meal furnished at a meeting here. Chicken strips ok. Nothing offered to dip them in but ketchup. Really? No gravy or ranch. Beans were awful, no flavor, full of bean skins, like leftover from day before. Potato salad was decent. The girl at this location with the lip rings has a horrible attitude. I walked up to the counter, she did not greet me, and we proceeded to awkwardly just stare at each other until I told her I wasn t sure what I wanted yet. Train the people at the front to greet customers when they walk in, otherwise I will be present for the closing party.

Had the chicken fried fried steak dinner and it was delicious! The service was a little bit slow. Parking: Plenty of parking spots and handicapped parking spots. Wheelchair accessibility: There are ramps going to the door but the doors are very difficult to open. So, entering and exiting are difficult. I took the Walker instead of the wheelchair because I wasnt sure how the maneuverability of the wheelchair would work inside the building. Very glad I made that decision because it would have been very difficult to maneuver inside the restaurant.

Save your money and get your food elsewhere. My wife spent nearly 40 dollars for The big catch family pack. Their portion sizes are not on their online menu and they forgot to give me one of my family sides. Its a 15 minute drive home to just to see their mistake. When I did return they only gave two corn cobs for a family side. Also, they forgot to give me gravy again for my sides of chicken. I strongly recommend not eating here if youre a student or have a family.

Visited the restaurant around noon on a Friday. They were only moderately busy. Placed an order at the counter and received my drink cup and a table marker. Incidentally, all their soda products are Pepsi brand (yuk), no Coke. The booths are very much in need of replacement and uncomfortable; sat at a table. I had a Catfish Deluxe sandwich combo with a medium soda, 6 à la cart gizzards, and a small country gravy. $20 with tax. Less than ten minutes later my food was delivered to the table. Everything was adequately hot and looked OK. The catfish had a very fishy, slightly off-putting taste. The gizzards were over cooked and extremely tough and of small size. The gravy was pretty tasty. The fries were quite good but small in number. Quite a few years ago, way before the pandemic, this was a pretty good restaurant. I must say I was very disappointed with this latest dining experience and probably will not be back.

Walked in asked if it was a sit anywhere place. The young waitress said yes. So I sat down at a table of 4 since it was just me to the right of the entrance table. There was a few people eating already. I sat down waiting for staff to come and ask me what I want to drink and with a menu since I was in the mood to eat some catfish. Never been there before not from Lubbock myself. Waited 12-14 minutes for someone to come ask me or even check on the people already there and eating. Needless to say no staff ever showed up. I got up and walked out. As far as the service I can give it a 1. As far as the food I cannot rate it because I didnt get to taste it. The atmosphere was ok. 12-15 minutes in a place that aint busy at all is a good time to wait before I get up and leave. Food was good and bad some plates were really good others were drowned in oil. Sever was so rude, I was paying and I guess he decided he would change me for something I dont even know what it is for while I was paying. Then very loudly saying that my card didnt pay for the whole amount. I was like no my card works he changed me 3.02 after I paid the 70 plus. After looking at my receipt I saw this additional charge which means my card works you charge me for something I didnt order. I didnt want to say anything I left it alone I didnt want to be yelled at or embarrassed again. If we are paying what we did you should at least have some kind of customer service skills this man should never be allowed to talk to customers. Because of this we will not be back. One more thing if a customer is front of you, your attention should be with them not coworkers. Im paying I expect your full attention thats why you messed up to begin with. First time eating at River Smiths. We came in for lunch 7/17/23. I had the catfish plate and my wife had the blackened catfish. She liked the fish, but nothing else on the plate. The salad had some wilted lettuce mix in and her corn on the cobb was dark and overdone and she didnt care for the rice. My catfish basket was okay, but was lacking freshness. There was no wow factor to either plate.

Ive gone to Riversmiths for years, started going when it was a little location off of the side road of 4th past Ave Q. Today will be the last time I go. Food was bland, really bland. I got the captains platter that has butterfly shrimp, popcorn shrimp, clam strips and white fish, comes with fries and coleslaw. I didnt try the coleslaw because Im real picky since getting food poisoning from a different restaurant. The white fish treated rather dirty, I know its fish and it has its own flavor but this was really strong, the breading just fell right off of it. The shrimp were bland, very little flavor. The clam strips were like chewing on a piece of rubber that didnt want to fall apert and bland. Yes, I know clam strips are chewy, but this was bad. I will give it a single star because it was hot when it came out. Very disappointed with the food, definitely not like it used to be. Bob and Lana, not sure if yall still own it or not, but rather disappointed.

Went here once before and honestly wasnt overly impressed. Not sure if they made any changes or what but I have to say today. I was much more impressed. Food quality was good. The prices are decent. As long as you can get past the attitude of the teenagers at the front counter youre good

Why cant you get cooks who can actually cook? Half cooked fries and wings and the wings are pre cooked so it shouldnt be that hard? Smh its not that hard. One star (half a star more than you deserve) for the puff the only thing that was good.

Last 2 times the Catfish was fried in old fryer oil. The cornmeal on the catfish was burned. Not a good flavor. The place just not the same as it once was.
