We literally sat for 20 minutes after being seated and didn t receive any service, let alone a greeting of any kind. I actually got up, went to the manager and asked if we did something wrong because it felt like we were being purposefully ignored. Finally, we received service from a waitress that wasn t very happy about doing it. Ultimately, the food was pretentious and really just not very good. My lamb was literally fat, and more fat. Given the exorbitant cost and poor service for okay food if not worse than that, I d recommend you choose another fine dining location in Lubbock.

Found Nicoletts for our 28th anniversary....what a wonderful find! We are from Houston, but have children in Lubbock and are in the area regularly. This time happened to coincide with our anniversary, and when another reservation fell through we were able to get into Nicoletts, and we couldnt have been happier! Our waitress was wonderful, just perfect in outlining the courses/recommendations/etc. We had appetizers, full courses, the works. Everything we had was wonderful! Not a bad course one, and one had me overwhelmed with call backs to my grandmothers French cooking....wow. My wife even took notes for next time! Compliments to the chef/owner (whom we met), the staff, and the kitchen....and thank you for making our anniversary memorable! We will be back for a Fall birthday....cant wait!

I found this restaurant grossly over-priced for the quality and quantity of the food served. The menu was very limited with no vegetable items on the menu. The only fine dining item on the menu was ribeye steak and it was only offered as steak for two at more than double the price I would have paid at most steak houses for a better cut of meat. The food preparation was good, but well short of excellent. There wss no steak sauce of any kind available to be served with the meal. This restaurant has a lot of work to do in terms of pricing, quality and quantity of food, and menu selections. I will not be dining there again.

Kaitlyn was a fantastic waitress. She gave us her recommendations on the courses, and the fry bread was unlike anything I ve ever had. The charcuterie tray (with duck pastrami) and homemade crackers were an experience in and of themselves. Such a beautiful dining experience we had tonight. We will be back soon. Worth every single penny and more. Amazing chef. Amazing atmosphere. Such a treasure for the Lubbock community.

This was the second time my girlfriend and I came for the Valentines tasting menu and we were really looking forward to it since last years blew us away. This year was unfortunately a bit disappointing for a couple of reasons: portion sizes this time around felt awkward, certain items we wanted more of and some less; I also had paid online for the caviar portion and our plates were given to another table due to some error. After asking, we received ours before the dessert and the yucca had already gone stale at that point. The waitress was very apologetic for the mistake but we werent offered any compensation. The steaks were very salty and the done-ness was varied; I had switched our dishes because mine was on the medium side and the other was borderline blue. I hope to come back soon because I do really enjoy chef Finns creations and ideas but we walked away from this event very underwhelmed by the execution.

We went for our anniversary at the end of the year. Although I consider myself an adventurous eater, I confess that I was unfamiliar with many of the items on the menu. Let me break it down The service itself was amazing. Its done in courses, so the serving staff will take your order all at once, and then bring each dish as its ready, removing/replacing cutlery as needed. The atmosphere was amazing. Its beautifully decorated in a very warm and inviting atmosphere. The food, however, is a different story. Everything that they brought us was TINY, not enough for one person, especially for the price. The flanken-ribs were cold and congealed. Anything with lavender was overpowered by the herb. I would like to commend the Agnolotti in a cream sauce with mimolette cheese. It was delicious, but I would like to have had more and preferred it to be warm instead of tepid. The financier in black-ash sugar for dessert was the best thing about the meal. I admit these are things I might should have said at the time, but we were only one of 3 couples in the restaurant at the time. I was embarrassed and thought that perhaps my husband and I are not bougie enough to appreciate the food. But honestly, it was just bad. I had a great time, but not a great meal.

Update, December 2023: Still incredible. We had time for dessert at the end, and it was just as delicious as the other courses. Highly recommend the caramelized brioche (photos posted separately from review). ----- Original review, December 2022: We stopped in here before a 7:30 show at Buddy Holly Hall. 5:15 was a perfect arrival time to make it to the show comfortably. Our server, David, made sure to keep our plans in mind. The Nicolett serves 3-course meals with various choices for each courses, with the option to skip one or more courses. We had all three courses, bread service beforehand, plus cocktails. The waitstaff took excellent care of us during our visit. David was awesome (as were the rest of the staff) and the food was delicious and high-quality. This place is defintiely in my top 3 (maybe 1 or 2?) or so favorite restaurants in Lubbock.

This restaurant can run with the best hype spots in Miami or nyc. The reason for some Of the one star reviews is local culture. This is a tasting menu based restaurant . High end , creative dishes . These people must have had different expectations or on a fast food budget because we had an extraordinary experience and were so surprised after driving through the city itself . Family owned, American . If we are ever in Lubbock again we will return.

We went to the Nicolette for our Anniversary celebration last night. I have never written a review before but it was very frustrating when we arrived for our 5:00 reservation & barely got our order placed, another very nice couple came in for dinner. The restaurant was completely empty & the hostess sat the other couple right next to us, not even three feet away from our table. Either of us could not even have a private conversation without the other hearing & I remind you the entire restaurant was empty with many other table options. I just do not understand the reason the hostess did this, we didn t even share the same server, so couldn t have been for their convenience. It really frustrated us, what would the reasoning be? I m sure the other couple felt just as invaded. It felt like cafeteria style seating. The food & service was awesome & like no other we have had in Lubbock.

Decided to splurge on our anniversary. First time dining. The staff and our waiter were great, but the food was really disappointing. I know the menu alternates and changes so maybe we just got dealt a bad card. Our drinks and bread were the only things we really enjoyed. The ribs were bland, the southwest gumbo was bland, the lamb neck was okay but the whole meal wasn t worth $200 + $50 tip because the service was good even though the food wasn t. Not to mention made both of our stomachs upset when we got home and I ended up taking tums at 3am trying not to be sick. I usually don t write reviews but I felt this needed to be addressed some way. Our first and probably last time here.

I rarely write a review but I must to since this place really exceeded my expectations. My husband and I just moved to Lubbock a year ago and had a struggle finding decent restaurants. We are from big city and always looking for a place for date-nights. We have been to a few places in town but nothing impressed us. But with this place, almost every dish that we ordered really amazed us. There s nothing pretentious about this restaurant at all. The chef serves local ingredients in innovative ways, while maintaining the west Texas identity. To elaborate that, we got to try pickled cactus while listening to country music and our servers were in jeans and bolo tie. This is unlike the fine dining you d find elsewhere cause it got it s own essence 5 stars for service, innovation and self-identity.

Fantastic service & atmosphere. Nice waiter. Wonderful chocolate elixir desert. The kale salad this time wasn t tasty; the rectangular-shaped mold presentation on the dark plate made me lose my appetite and the radish was watery & not crisp; the radish didn t have a lot of flavor either - bland. The pasta w saffron and garlic dish gave me an upset stomach - simple carbs and at least 1/3 of the dish was butter. Even though the portions were tiny, I didn t want to continue eating. I was disappointed w the food this time. Went last weekend.

Overall this was a very underwhelming experience. This was our second time here, and both times we were very disappointed. As with some of the reviews, the food was mediocre (at best), and certainly not worth the price. For this price, you expect great execution, and many of the dished we had were just poorly executed. Lack of seasoning, or too much seasoning. We had a stuffed pepper that basically still had inedible skin remining on it. We will not be back, and we would not recommend. If you are looking for a nice upscale dinner in Lubbock, I would look elsewhere

I enjoy this place quite a lot. As a person who doesn t drink alcohol, I appreciate the spirit free options on their menu. All quite tasty! I highly recommend this place to all my other friends who also do not drink alcohol. The food options may seem quite small but I typically do a sort of appetizer, which everyone must try the fry bread I believe it is really quite delicious. I will then do a main course and a dessert. I can appreciate the chefs dedication to bringing a different kind of flavor to west Texas. I enjoy trying the different little amuse-bouche, even if the flavor to me isn t quite agreeable. At least I tried something new. Either way, this is a must try if you re in Lubbock. Sitting in the greenhouse is also the best experience. Enjoy!

Weve been looking forward to enjoying the Nicolett, and the experience did not disappoint. This hospitality destination manages to afford what larger cities support, and bring a level of class to Lubbock. The cuisine is indicative of Chef Finn Walter, a Lubbock native trained in Paris, Austin, Napa Valley, and Santa Fe, as the portions, ingredients, and sophistication is this menu may feel foreign to other natives. From one of many Lubbock locals who had also had the privilege of international travel, I can proudly recommend this incredible location to anyone, whether or not they are from larger cities or found Lubbock after living overseas. Order something for each course, enjoy the menu in an authentic and serene urban setting, and partake in the thoughtful beverage menu. Tell your friends, but not your one-star prone frenemies. Lets keep this party polite and give Chef Walter what he and his team so deeply deserve in the five star experience they provide.

When they first opened, there was always one course that would throw off the meal - typically something from the mains. I dont really understand the hype. The short of it is that I spent $60 on a 3-hour long dining experience and left still hungry. Waitstaff interactions were... odd. The long of it is that we came here entertaining a business visitor (7 people total; $550 bill). I explained to the waitstaff early that we could not buy alcohol on a company card, but they kept pushing cocktails, and the first person to order a drink essentially had to keep guessing what was non-alcoholoic: can I get a lemonade? Can I get a juice? This happened three times before they finally said okay, what do you have? and a waiter broke down non-alcoholic options for us. It was just a strange exchange. They were also out of half their entrees, and given their short menu, that didnt exactly leave a lot of options. We were told initially that they were out of the beef cheek. We placed our order after about half an hour, but the waiter came back to tell us that they didnt have enough trout for each person that had ordered trout, so someone would have to chage their order. This struck me as odd because its not like the place was slammed, and we got there at 5:30. How were they out of anything by 6PM? They open at 5; there were three other tables sat by that time; we had reservations days in advance, so its not like our larger party was a surprise. I suppose the idea is that this was an experience rather than a meal, but the way the courses worked was never really explained to us (we were able to infer after the fact), and each of the three courses took 45-60 minutes. Given that no course contained more than about 4 oz of food, thats a lot of wait time in between. I feel especially duped that 2-3 oz of cod ended up costing $40 (no joke, it was about the size of a large sashimi). Yes, it was well prepared, but there was nothing about the preparation that justifies that price point. Its fortunate that this was a business dinner, and I didnt pay out of pocket for it! I also recognize that I shouldnt conflate quality with quantity. In a town like Lubbock, its nice to have that reminder: a good dinner experience does not necessarily mean mass quantities. At the same time, I should not spend three hours at a restaurant, drop 60 bucks, and drive home thinking Im looking forward to heating up my leftover Indian food from yesterday! I appreciate the fact that they use mostly local ingredients, and what they do they do well, but I would never recommend anyone go there for the reasons above.

2nd Edit: 12/2022 We are sad to say we wont be returning. Nearly everything we ate had dropped in quality. Our pastas were served too cold, the meat had no flavor, the fry bread was more greasy than usual and the creme fresh served with our desert was curdled and sour. This place tries really hard, but they honestly cant compete with Rave On. Its just not worth it. The things they used to do well (bread, vegetables and desert) are now mediocre or inedible and the meat is just as bad as ever. The only thing they have going for them now is ambiance, and that just isnt worth the price and the terrible eating experience. I think the price and presentation force people to assume they are getting something sofisticated. They dont want to admit they just spent $250 on poor quality food. Mashed potatoes should not be gluey. Gluey bland potatoes is not fine dining. This place is for people who want to appear sofisticated, not for people who actually want well seasoned and enjoyable food. Edit: 02/2021 We went for Valentines day. They improved the meat quite a lot! The scallops were not fishy, and balanced the dish they were in very nicely. The ash rubbed filet (which we had last time and was tough, and compleatly covered in black truffles and caked in ash that over powered it) was much improved. The flavors were well balanced and the meat was so tender! The only thing we werent a fan of was the sourdough lasagna but that may come down to a personal preference thing. We will definitely continue to come back. Their menu is very adventurous but its an experience you wont forget! Original post: 3 stars We have been here a few times and I have mixed feelings about it. The ambience is fantastic, the waitstaff is attentive and wonderful. The bread, vegetables, and deserts are AMAZING! .... but every meat dish is underwhelming at best and inedible at worst. The seafood dishes are especially disgusting. They need a good meat guy. You cant cook meat that terrible in a place like Lubbock. We know good meat, and this is just not it.

If youre looking for huge Texas-sized plates, there are plenty of other places for you to go in town. The Nicoletts dishes are of the highest quality, and each dish is comprised of thoughtful flavor combinations, meant to be savored and enjoyed slowly. If you do so, I promise you will be satiated at the end of the night without having to spend a fortune. On top of the menu being creative, the food was just down right fantastic. We found the prices in line with the quality of the food and care taken to prepare it. The wait staff is young but attentive and consummate professionals. Great food, atmosphere and drinks but what is going on with the temperature? 82 degrees inside!!! They keep this place so uncomfortably hot, even waiters have always a drop of sweat on their forehead. Great place to eat drink otherwise but hope owners do something to keep a more comfortable environment inside.

The Nicolett is lead by Chef Finn Walter, James Beard Semifinalist for Best Chef: Texas. I would recommend coming on Thursday night for the 5-course chef tasting. If not, I d go with one of the homemade pastas or lamb dishes. Great restaurant that Lubbock has been needing. My server Colt and the hostesses Lauren were fantastic! Of the tasting, my favorite was the yucca stuffed pappardelle. Great ambience in this quaint restaurant. They also have a brunch on Sundays with some delicious bread. I m a fan, thanks Nicolett!!

So we have been to a lot of fine dining restaurants! But we are not snobs either. The sun choke amuse bouche had no salt and was bland. The wildflower salad had one taste of chèvre and way too much wildflowers and very little vinaigrette. Like eating grass! The foie gras was served with no bread and we had to order a serving of bread to go with it. Typically foie is served with a few slices of bread to offset the richness of the foie. The trout was served on a bunch of mint with nothing else! A very small portion of fish slightly over salted on a bed of MINT! I m not going to eat a pile of mint! How about a few fingerling potatoes or some other veg? The lamb was fatty. No value at all for the money! The food also took forever and we were one of the first tables seated with a 6 pm reservation. The restaurant was also quite warm. Our server was friendly. The ambiance was nice. Very disappointed to spend $273 before tip for 3 people. The ravioli and beef cheek were quite good. But seriously put a little something on the plate with the lamb and trout other than MINT.

We made reservations here for a graduation celebration. A professor of my graduate had recommended it as a nice place in Lubbock (since we are from Dallas and wanted some place nice to celebrate). The location was lovely, and our server Colt was attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. The issue we had was that we had to put a $100 deposit down to reserve our table on the patio. We also had to preorder our food, both of which seemed inconvenient and unnecessary, even for a nice restaurant. The prices were way out of line for the portion sizes. We ate on the patio, and I would have expected at least a table cloth at such a nice restaurant. The patio was lovely, but plastic chairs and tables need upgrading for the price of the meal. The food was tasty, but again, the portions were TINY. We left hungry after spending almost $1000.

I must warn the men out there, the portions are small compared to what we are used to being served. But honestly, its nice leaving a restaurant feeling satisfied rather than feeling gross.

We have tried the Nicolett several times, and it is time to post. This is the only restaurant in Lubbock (in the last 12 years) that has gotten progressively better since they opened. (Good LBB restaurants fall off a cliff after a few months.) There is nowhere within hundreds of miles that can do with vegetables, breads, and desserts what they do. Every item is an experience best enjoyed mindfully. Pay attention to the flavors and sensations, and you ll spot that there s at least one genius in the kitchen. The staff are uniformly professional, courteous, and willing to improve your experience if you have a concern. Do not go seeking a West Texas meat and carb experience, where you leave ready to sleep and digest. This is different than anything else available, and the experience is worth your time and money.

The meals were absolutely amazing along with the experience. It is a tasting menu, and frankly the best food I ve ever had. The flavor that the chef created was absolutely magnificent. If you re worried about portion size, this place is not for you, it is focused on the flavor. I felt like Remi from Ratatouille when the chef brought us some green tea puffs to sample. I also thought it was absolutely amazing when I would see someone leave their napkin when they would go to the restroom, and then the service staff would come by a fold it and drape it off the back of their chair for the customer to return to. Hats off to everyone here.

My husband and I love this restaurant so much, we look for any excuse to go. The ambience, whether you choose to dine in the courtyard, in the greenhouse, or indoors, is artful, simple, and stunning. It is enough to make you feel cozy and relaxed, ready to eat a perfect meal, but it does not distract from the food, drink, or company. We always start with a cocktail, and I havent had one yet that I didnt love. Although, I find myself always wanting their old fashioned as it is extremely well-balanced. The fry bread with honey butter or the blue cheese bread starters are marvelous. One of my personal favorite menu items is the pinon salad. It has such a bold and unique flavor. My absolute favorite menu item is the agnolotti. If it is on the menu, I have to order it every time. The beef cheek brisket with a glass of house red wine has become another go-to of mine. The service of the Nicolett is how I wish every dining experience could be. Our meal, from cocktail to dessert, is perfectly timed, every time. I never feel rushed to finish whats in front of me, and I never feel liking I am waiting on a wait staff. Water is always filled before I know I needed more. The wait staff are intelligent about the menu and have an intimate knowledge about the food. They are always reliable for a suggestion if you find yourself torn. I could go on proclaiming how special and elegant this dining experience is. It is so different from any place youve been to in Lubbock, and it is better than most of my fine dining experiences in Dallas or Austin.

The food we had was either a hit or miss. Elk tartar was amazing and the desert cheese we had was to die for. But the entrees were nothing special. Small portions and ok flavor. I had the brisket and the meat was ok but the mashed potatoes and pickled radishes were great. The quail was good I preferred it over the brisket. I d go back for the elk tartar, cheese, and the patio.

Very underwhelming for the price. Mediocre service and small portions, on top of that, our waiter knew little to nothing about the wine on their list. Tiny portions will probably have most people under ordering and leaving hungry. Our group tried every entree, all were good, none particularly impressive, and priced between $30 and $40. Salmon was not cooked as ordered and had to be sent back, the rest of us had finished our meals by the time the salmon came back out. Went in with high expectations and was disappointed

My girlfriend and I were in Lubbock recently and wanted to go to a nice place to celebrate a birthday. We got texts and emails prior to our visit asking for confirmation and a small questionnaire the night before. Arrived a bit early on a Friday evening intending to have a drink before dinner but they seated us immediately. So far, so good. Unfortunately things went downhill from there. It took quite some time (over 15 minutes) before anyone took our drink order, and then only one of two drinks arrived. There was another sizable wait before our dinner order was taken. We had to endure another long wait before the food arrived (when the waiter comes over and says that he knows that everyone is frustrated you know it isn t your imagination). When the food arrived it was quite good (fry bread, pozole, culottes of beef, fish) but as others have noted the portions are quite small. I really wanted to like this place but I wouldn t be honest unless I admit I was disappointed. We d anticipated a nice celebratory dinner but left with a story . I got the impression that there are chefs and a waitstaff but no real manager. Frankly it was all we could do to keep from laughing when the tiny meal arrived after all the waiting.

Second time here. First was excellent. this time bread was burnt and food portions were embarrassingly small. Fish was no more than 3 bites. 1/2 thick about 2/3 the size of a playing card. Will not give a third chance it was so disappointing. At this price point it needs to be pretty consistent. Clearly that is not going to happen.

We ve eaten here three times now, once doing their early takeout program, once for their regular dinner menu, and once for a prix fixe at Valentine s. It s the best spot in Lubbock for food. Period. (If your main criteria in a restaurant is eating as much food as possible for as little money, see below, then I recommend the unlimited shrimp at Applebee s.) The attention to detail is obvious in every plate. If a simple vegetable has been lacto-fermented or roasted or slivered and dehydrated, it s been done precisely to balance the plate. The bread and pastry program are phenomenal. When you factor in the time spent and the service rendered, the price is more than fair. What s more, there is something on the menu for different palates. While it s done in a unique way, you CAN get something close to steak and potatoes if you re new to fine dining. Or if you re adventurous there are plenty of options. I ll add the wine list is very accessible, and they have the best value house wines I ve ever seen at a restaurant of this caliber. We re grateful to have this place in town. It s worth your support.

Unbelievably the most unprofessional restaurant I have ever ate at.

Last night we experienced the Nicolett. I say experienced because it is not just your typical lubbock dinner... This place is an experience. We sat near the kitchen view to see Chef Finn Walter. I was too nervous to say anything at the time but, if he reads this I hope he understands what an amazing experience he gave us. When getting the check I will say it was worth every penny. From beginning to end we were all blown away with every bite. This is not your typical quick dinner this is meant to be savored and enjoyed. We tried just about everything on the menu between the 4 of us to make sure we could taste everything. The following were my favorite items if you are looking for recommendations. 1. Elk Tartare 2. Pozole 3. Beef Cheek Brisket 4. Lemon Curd I was so in the moment I didnt get pictures of everything but here below is a few items. Thank you again we will return and recommend to all friends and family.
