My family has gotten cakes from Jula for 24 years. For birthdays, events, get well sweets etc. always friendly and an adorable shop. Has a section of older cookies for half price too! Perfect to stop by on the way home from work for a sweet treat that won t break the bank. Her raspberry and lemon filled cakes are a go to for us. And they have treats for four legged friends!!

My wedding reception was July 14,2024. July delivered! The cake was beautiful! Just what I ordered! It made me so happy!!!! My quest were very complimentary of the cake and how delicious it was. I ordered sugar cookies and lemon bars. They were excellent and delicious! Jula was very professional, accommodating and gracious!

Cake looked amazing and tasted just OK! My review is more about the lack of proper sanitary (food handling) situation I witnessed while picking up my cake. The young boy that checked us out had no mask YET had a runny nose and kept drawing his mucus back. If one is around food and has symptoms like that they ought not be around the food to be served to customers at all, but at this point, a mask wouldve been better than none. It was such a disgusting sight.

Had a wedding at the Lasker Inn and Jula did the cakes. Taste testing was great, working with her on design was great, and she was so friendly and easy to work with. The cake was BEAUTIFUL and met all of our hopes and expectations, and it was DELICIOUS! Guests could not stop raving about our middle layer french vanilla with bavarian cream filling, and the chocolate cake was amazing too. Cannot recommend her enough! Especially for weddings!

Our wedding cake by Jula was perfect! The tasting appointment was our favorite wedding task and she was super open to doing a non-traditional cake. We went with cakes meant to look like a stack of books because we are both avid readers, and she delivered on that vintage-y leatherbound style. Plus, the cakes inside were absolutely delicious!!

I came here to order a cake like from the taylor swift music video the heart shaped cake and when you stab it filling comes out its bad enough when i order the lady takeing my order was super nice but lady in back was complaining whoever came up with this idea I hate it hear her complaining loud and clear already made me super uncomfortable. We discussed it and it was finished today is my mothers birthday we had a party and my mother stabbed her cake and guess what. NOTHING CAME OUT!! There was a bit of raspberry filling in layer thats all! I wasted my money and moment was very Awkward and dispointing! Do not come here for special request other wise you will hear a lady complain in the back and not get as requested

update: owner thank you for your feedback to my comment, i didnt mistake blunt with rudeness she point blank refused to sell the cake after telling me flavor comes pre made, i read your website throughly and per website instruction came in person to discuss my request as you state for custom request best to come in person, and was verbally attacked by your baker because i asked for custom item. please reword your website to be clear and precise so potential future customers are not mislead by term custom . unfortunately i can t recommend this place for custom cakes. i went in on thursday february 1st at 5pm to inquire about custom cake for birthday party. baker was very rude and unprofessional, i asked for custom base flavor she said they can t do that as their mix already comes in batches l, i asked is it from box she said no it s from bag lol i wanted custom flavor not out of bag. she said she will not sell it to me because she knows i will be unhappy ofcourse i would be when on your website you list you can make custom cakes sky mile high but then you turn customer due to custom request. so yes if you need HEB type quality of cake this is the place for you if you want something more custom they don t want or they don t know how to accommodate it. i did purchase cupcakes and chocolate balls cupcakes were just ok little bit on dry side and balls were good but we will not be back due to rudeness of the baker.

Jula and her team were absolutely amazing! We had her do our bridal cake for our wedding and it was perfect! It was delicious and beautiful and we got SO many compliments from our guests - so many people had more than one piece!! Jula was so kind and helpful when we met with her and was great at communicating and meeting our preferences; she was great from beginning to end! We will certainly recommend her to future couples and will ask for her services in future events!

Our cake tasting experience was amazing. So many options and recommendations and the cakes were delicious. We ultimately decided on 3 flavors in our 3 tier cake for our wedding. We had our wedding last night and people could not stop talking about how great the cake was. Even our pastry chef friends. We ordered a beautiful wedding cake back in July for a December wedding. We showed Jula the pictures and we discussed the oranges at length and she told me she could do them. We said we didn t care for the chocolate drip and she said she would use gold and smear it. I called her in November to confirm the cake and see if she had any questions. I m posting pictures of what I ordered, and what we received. The cake with the oranges is what we showed and discussed with Jula at our meeting. The cake on the right with the strawberry s is what she delivered. We never at anytime ever discussed using other fruit, or any other options and have no idea where she got her inspiration from bc we ONLY discussed the orange cake. There was no alternative cake discussed. Our daughter s heart was broken bc she was so pleased with the orange cake she thought she was getting and it ended up looking like something from an HEB bakery.. I truly have no idea what happened and no one from her bakery bothered to call to apologize for the mistake.

Due to my demanding job, and the fact that I am a untreated procrastinator, I waited until the last minute to start looking for pies for Thanksgiving. I didnt want just a big pie, I wanted a good pie. And a variety of them as I had 2 large dinners to attend. So I called Cakes by Julia and spoke with the sweetest lady and she assured me that they had what I needed. A key lime pie, pecan pies and pumpkin pies. And someone requested that I get a Boston creme pie. She didnt have the Boston creme pie but instead had the cupcakes (which was pretty awesome as we were also celebrating 2 birthdays and an anniversary on Thanksgiving day). When I arrived at the store to pick them up, the staff there were so sweet and accommodating. They answered all my questions, calmly helped me with my choices and then even helped me carry all these pies to my car !! THESE PIES WERE THE BEST I HAVE EVER HAD !!!! They were so good. Everyone kept asking me where I got them. I should have just picked up some business cards and passed them out to everyone. I must have said Cakes by Julia off of FM 518 and I45 a million times. You can really tell the love that she puts into these pies. I will definitely be going back and Im not going to wait until next Thanksgiving. Im gonna be there for Valentines day, New Years, Christmas, July 4th...... every holiday and then some, just to have one at the house. So if you are reading this wondering..... should I try this place ? I say Heck yeah !!! You definitely wont regret it.

Cakes by Jula not only made a gorgeous wedding cake that looked exactly as I had requested, but it tasted just as good as it looked. I had two people come up to me after the wedding and ask where we got the cake because their significant other usually doesnt like wedding cakes, but they did like this one. I think most wedding cakes prioritize looks over taste, and with Jula you can have your cake and eat it too! :)

Its the first time I ordered a cake for my daughters quinceañera. I went for the stars and made the decision to order it there. I can say that it was the best decision. They were very attentive, they gave us to try the flavors and bread. When placing the order a few days before the event, they made sure that my order was correct, the color, etc. Very attentive, I can say that I will not hesitate to return. We had Jula make our wedding cake which was a semi naked cake with berries around the edges and a dessert table which included, macaroons, lemon bars, brownie bars, and cupcakes. We were blown away at how beautiful and delicious our cake was! Our family and friends were crowding around the dessert table more than the dance floor so Im sure they liked the desserts too. I could not be happier. Ive been nervous for a month now. It was my daughters 16th birthday, and golden birthday yesterday. So I kinda went all out. I got a black forrest cake with a deathnote theme. When I saw it yesterday I was so happy with the way it turned out. I would give 5 stars just for the presentation. However the cake was also moist and delicious. I dont really care for chocolate cake, and this was so good. Lindsey did a phenomenal job. She should be very proud of her work.

The amazing and talented bakers here KNOCKED OUR CAKE OUT OF THE PARK! I m still in awe of how amazing it not only looked, but how amazing the cake tasted! A birthday cake was ordered for a special birthday. It was extra sweet and the cake was so moist it looked, felt and tasted wet. The icing was layered thick, also. To eat the cake, the icing had to be removed. The taste of the cake was ok, if it had not been so wet. Bakery not recommend.

We had a beach themed wedding in Galveston, Tx. I was up and down about the design. We knew right away we wanted a lactose free top tier and they came through. Our cake was absolutely stunning and delicious. We had 3 tiers of Pineapple/cream cheese, Strawberry/cream cheese and carrot cake/cream cheese frosting. The design was exactly how I envisioned it. Only thing I had an issue with was that the ladies who delivered it didn t say one word to me. I as well as my 3 daughters were there setting up the dining room. We didn t get even as much as a hello. Not sure why, but it would ve been nice to be spoken to. Even if they did just think we were members of the wait staff.

Cakes by Jula made my March wedding cake. It was very easy to call and make an appointment with Jula at her shop. We went and were able to taste test our top 5 cake flavors and fillings. I described what I wanted the cake to look like and she sketched it out. She was able to make my vision come to life. Our wedding cake and grooms cake were exactly how we envisioned them - absolutely beautiful work! AND THE CAKES WERE DELICIOUS! The cake looked like how I wanted, That wasn t the problem. The problem was customer service and the cake itself. When I ordered the cake. The young ladies that took my order were confused and nonchalant. I was explaining what I wanted and I just became kinda frustrated about the process of ordering. It just felt like they wouldn t get the cake right even though I showed them a picture. On the day of pick up they forgot to put the toys on the cake that I dropped off. And on the day of the occasion the cake was dry, too much fondant on the cake and honestly it was just an okay cake. Paying the money that I paid I don t just want an okay cake.

Absolutely delicious and beautiful cakes. Jula is very friendly and capable of creating a perfect customized cake. On top of that, her cake is the very best Ive ever had taste-wise. You have to try the raspberry filling. I attached a picture of our wedding cake top that has been sitting in our freezer for the past year. We just dug into it and the taste is bringing us back. So much so that I had to leave a review. The cake may look a little dry now, but thats because I neglected to do the Saran wrap instructions she gave us. It still tastes lovely after all this time though. Highly recommended! 5 stars!

I would never come to this cake place ever again ! Julia was very rude when I addressed the issues I had with my graduation cake and didn t do anything to resolve my issues. I bought cupcakes and some cookies from here. The red velvet tasted really artificial, almost like box cake and the icing was off for some reason. The banana pudding cupcake doesn t have actual pudding custard in it, but the box pudding you buy for .59 cents. The cookies and cream didn t really deliver The cake balls were okay, but everything tastes really artificial and the cupcakes are realllllly small to be $3 they have no weight to them or taste really. I wanted to order cakes and the reviews had me excited am I wanted to try the other things first, but I ll have to look elsewhere. 2 stars at least for customer service.

I showed up to my cake tasting with a few pictures from Pinterest and they made them come to life times 100. Our cakes were far more beautiful than I could have imagined!! In addition to being beautifully designed and decorated, they tasted AMAZING. My husband and I did not want bland, boring, dry cake. Substance had to match beauty, and Jula more than delivered. The wedding cake had a mix of carrot cake and almond cake layers with pineapple filling. The grooms cake was lemon cake with lemon curd filling. We over ordered based on our original guest list, and I wasn t sad at all that we took lots of cake home. I can t wait to order from them for my next event or party!

Jula was recommended by our coordinator after our original baker did not follow up with us. Most of our communication with Jula was thru our coordinator but went smoothly. I m so glad that we had Jula instead! Our cake and cupcakes were a hit! Our wedding guests could not stop talking about how good the cake was! When I finally had a taste, wow! I wanted the entire thing to myself! We had Chocolate and vanilla cupcakes with solid white chocolate starfish! So freaking good! My MIL and other family members went through the rest of the bottom tier and cupcakes the next few days! We gained a few pounds but totally worth it! I am extremely disappointed. My son s camping cake looked nothing like the pictures I emailed them. It was totally NOT worth the money. The cake was not moist so I question how fresh it was. What I am most upset about is the fact that I brought my own toys to add to the cake so they really did nothing for $70. They literally iced the cake and plopped the toys on top. How would one even know it was a birthday cake as it didn t have Happy Birthday or the camping sign I asked for? It was a camping cake and was supposed to have a section of water because one of the toys was a canoe. The canoe was just sitting on the cake and no water. They fixed this when I stated that there was no water but WHY would I have to even state that when the pictures I emailed clearly showed the canoe in water??? And regarding the Camp sign, it was clearly written on my receipt and I could hear someone in the back say, oh the wood sign wasn t dry. So why on earth would you try to give me a cake that wasn t actually done despite the fact that I came 30 minutes AFTER the time I said I would arrive to receive the cake? So they would have let me leave without an important part of the cake? And wouldn t say anything until I mentioned it? It s unprofessional and I felt like they didn t even care. I will NOT give this business my hard earned money ever again. I was trying something new as I always get my cakes from Fiona s Bakery. What a mistake that I m truly regretting!!!

Called to see if they were still available to make a birthday cake for my sons 1st birthday for the 31st to what the lady replied yes as long as it was simple so I told her if I come in Tuesday the 29th would they still be able and they replied yes again. Fantastic cupcakes, havent tried one that we havent liked! They are delicious while not being super sweet. My absolute favorite is the salted caramel cupcake. We will definitely be going back often! We also appreciate the adherence to COVID19 safety guidelines. If you ve gotten this far, I m sure you ve figured out Cakes by Jula is the cake expert. We were encouraged by our wedding venue (the Bryan museum) to use them, but we did cake tastings at a couple other places anyway. Jula was 10x any other place from the tasting experience (my husband is still talking about how they let you mix and match) to the quality. So moist!!! So many guests commented on how fantastic it was. You will not regret using Jula for your wedding or event. We ll be finding excuses to come back.

I ve been using cakes by Julia since I got married in 2015 and it s been awhile since I ve ordered a cake from them and I can truly say, their cakes are still really good and great customer service. No issues what so ever and I love the new spot also. I ordered a cake for mom on the 16th (birthday) and and my hubby ordered a cake for my birthday 20th all within the same week and each was accommodated and accurate. We have been purchasing cakes, cake balls and cupcakes from Jula for over ten years. Our wedding cake came from there. The food is fantastic but the in store customer service is terrible. Went in to pick up a cake yesterday that we ordered five days in advance and paid for on the phone, the lady got the cake ready and then my wife decided to get a cupcake, the lady said they were in the back and she would go get one. After waiting for more than ten minutes my wife rang the bell and the lady came out from the back and basically said she forgot she was there. Yesterday was my time buying cupcakes and cookies. As I pass by the check our mail on a daily the smell is just is just amazing. Ordered cookies for my grandsons wedding reception to be used as favors. The cookies were lovely but tasted terrible. They tasted like sugar and almond or maybe vanilla extract and nothing else. They were not a shortbread but just awful tasting cookies. Almost $350 for cookies that most people threw into the trash! I have had cookies from Jula before that were delicious, so I am not sure what happened. These cookies were tasteless, like cardboard with sugar on it.

Lets start with the positive: the fresh cupcakes in the display are YUMMY! Every time Ive grabbed some to soothe a sweet tooth or reward one of my kiddos, Im always pleased. They are moist, flavorful, and worth their price. They get a 5+ stars for the items in the display, especially the cupcakes. Unfortunately, I will not order a special occasion cake from them again. Ive ordered several over the years, and can say that they are hit and miss. It seems that whatever system they use is not effective in fulfilling cake orders. Ive ordered beautiful tier cakes that were flawless and Ive ordered cakes that looked plain and thrown together- in one case, the cake decor was not what I had actually asked for. I hate that I dont feel that I can trust them with a custom order because their products are so delicious. I think there needs to be a person assigned to only making sure the customers requests are honored. This would take their already flourishing business to a new high.

For my sons 2nd birthday I wanted a special cake. He loves spongebob so I ordered a round cake with a 3D image of spongebobs face covering the entire cake. I emailed them the picture of a cake I found on google.i paid half and the rest when I picked up. The Cake looks like the picture I emailed them but just a little sloppy. The fondant wasn t smooth but it s for a 2 year old so I was ok with it. If it were a wedding cake I would ve been upset. It tastes good and the kids liked it and that was my main concern...so that s why they get 3 stars. I was told that this bakery was better than a very popular cupcake place in Friendswood (wont mention names but they were on Food Networks Cupcake Wars), so naturally my curiousity was peaked. I stopped by today and got the usual - 2 red velvet cupcakes. When I got home excited to eat one of them, I can only say they were okay. The cream cheese icing still had a strong sour flavor, and all around, it was mildly better than an HEB cupcake. Also, they werent very attractive like the other bakery in Friendswood... While driving, the cupcakes slid around and the icing contacted the top of the container whereas the Friendswood bakery has a decent package, even if it costs a few cents more. But thats all relative at $2/3 cupcake. Also, service inside the store was a bit weird and dismissive. Will I return? Sadly, no. The Friendswood bakery still has my heart and I will cement my loyalty with them instead.

Cant review the taste but the customer service and trying to order was ridiculous. From the website info nothing stated a time or deadline to order birthday cakes so I emailed 8 days before my sons birthday at (11am) for a small 10-15pl cake. Someone replied same day almost 4 hours later (2:30pm)asking for example photos and theme of cake I wanted. I promptly replied and then waited 3 DAYS to get a reply or confirmation so I knew my sons party would have a cake. The 3rd day at 11am someone replied saying they were booked up for the next weekend (suddenly? ) and couldnt do the cake. Just plain ridiculous, knowing someone is inquiring about a cake within a birthday time frame and then not caring to reply or deny from the start so I could keep looking somewhere else is just a lack caring. Glad I found a better rated bakery in Nassau Bay last minute to complete my order quickly and promptly reply to me. But just beware when ordering here!! My family and I have been customers with Cakes by Jula for many years. We have always recommended their cakes to people we knew, and had thought we had found our go to place to have cakes made for special events. Not anymore. The service is not like how it use to be in the beginning and it s very disappointing. Last year, my family and I had a cake made for my nephews 1st birthday. The smash cake we had ordered for his pictures came out amazing. When we came back to order the SAME cake for his birthday party it was a complete mess. Nothing was right. It s tasted great. Absolutely amazing!!! I had an idea for a cake but could not piece it all together. Never met in person just a conversation over the phone and my cake turned out perfect. Everyone at the party took pictures because of how beautiful it turned out. The order process was simple and when I went to pickup someone even brought the cake out for me. Will definitely be coming here for all my cake needs and highly recommend them.

The Sunflower has pretty good food and excellent desserts. When I went they were busy but they surprisinged us when we didnt have to wait. It took quite awhile to pay, however. It really was busy. Love their pie!

This is our 3rd cake from Jula and it was amazing as usual! Their designs are awesome- I presented a picture of what I wanted each time, was given a price, and the finished result was amazing and tasted divine! Recommended by a friend. Me and my husband were so happy and pleased with the unicorn cake and unicorn poop cupcakes! Cake Taste was perfect, icing wasnt too rich or not rich enough.The cake actually made it to our party without having to driving ten miles an hour. (Previous experience from another party, Long story) But I will definitely be purchasing more cakes from Cakes by Jula. Super super happy with the result all the way around. I wish I could give MORE STARS! This is definitely a place that loves what they do and you can taste the passion in it every bite.

We were already addicted to Jula s cupcakes, so when it came time to think about our wedding cake there was no question who we wanted to do it. We went to a few other tastings just for the sake of making an educated choice, but all they did was make us even more sure. We brought in pictures and explained our vision, and she quickly and efficiently jotted down notes and ideas. For our main cake we wanted something that would be reminiscent of waves, with a nautical theme to match our wedding. For the groom s cake, we had brought in an amazing picture of a cake made to closely resemble Bilbo s book from Lord of the Rings. For both cakes, she absolutely exceeded our every expectation. Just blew them out of the water. And, as with everything they make there, they were SO delicious. Our guests couldn t decide which was more amazing the look or the taste. Thank you, Jula, for everything!!

I called to get prices on three different cakes from their website and Alena answered the phone .. I explain to her that I was just wanting to get a rough estimate of each cake the way they are shown on the website. She kept telling me she needs to know the number of people .. I told her at this time i have no idea of how many people because i just sent out the invitations yesterday, and that i am just trying to get a rough estimate .. so I told her never mind and that I will take my business else and without trying to get my business she hung up on me .. so i called back and got her name Alena .. this happened today March 28, 2017 Hello Jula ... i see you responded; however, I never said she was rude.. i understand why she was asking me how many people and she NEVER asked when i needed it. I told her several times that i was just wanting to get a rough estimate of the way they look on your website because i just sent out the invitations yesterday, so i have no idea how many people. I was recommended to your store, and I saw three cakes that i really liked, but she did not even try to get my business, SHE JUST HUNG UP ON ME
