First visit 8-17-24 Always see people post about it on the CITIZENS Of IRVING page on Facebook, so we had to try. Walked in and got the feeling of an old school cafe and coffee shop. Wife got French toast, eggs, bacon, sausage and taters. French toast tasted delicious. Forgot what my meal was called,but it has biscuits (bottom), sausage, egg and topped with gravy and taters on the side. Everything complimented itself just right. Biscuits were soft, over medium eggs were just right, sausage was cooked just right, taters were seasoned just right. Washed down with an unsweetened tea. Felt like it took a little long to get meal out, but that wont be a turn off for me. Most definitely will go back, try something else, and get pancakes (those looked fluffly).

Wow! This place is amazing! Found this place on Google for the first time. There are very, very few restaurants like this left anymore. Customer service the way it is meant to be. Most of the customers know each other. They are chatting with each other. The owner (Shorty) is chatting, joking, with the customers. Restaurant is homey. The food was So good . Hash browns the best I have ever had (thin and crispy). Shorty realized we were newbies. He introduced himself. Chatted with us for a bit. I will go out of my way to come back. We live in Arlington. I think this restaurant is worth the drive.

WOW! When my family pulled into the parking lot, my wife said, this place looks sketchy. I said trust me and we went inside. We met Shorty at the front and he got us seated quickly. The menu was full of excellent choices that were priced very reasonably. Everything we ordered was prepared exactly as we asked and the food was delicious. You definitely need to stop and eat here. Great hospitality and outstanding food.

Absolutely fantastic! Our first time at Shorty s in Irving, was an unforgettable experience. Their breakfast was hands down the best in town. The burger was phenomenal. My boyfriend and I visited Shortys for the first time ever yesterday and I am mad that I had not known about this place before!! We walked in and was greeted by the owners daughter then the owner came over to our table and introduced himself! It was VERY welcoming!! The locals were also nice and gave recommendations on the best meals!! The owner even told me HONESTLY that the chicken fried steak was pretty tough due to the cut of meat so I was extremely appreciative of his honest feedback and went with his recommendation to get the waffle eggs bacon and sausage! I was PLEASED!! Shorty s you have obtained TWO new local customers!!! We love it and we will be back for sure to try one of those gormet burgers!!! Thank you for the excellent service! I see why you ve been in business for over 30 years!! Keep it up!!

What a great experience! Shorty and his daughter were so awesome and extremely friendly! The food was divine, it came out as fast as we came in and sat down and ordered. First off, The sign is faded, so it was hard to find. Was my first time. It wasnt busy like i anticipated for a small mom and pop diner. The food was, meh at best. The biscuits and gravy looked and tasted store bought. The biscuit was slighty burned on the bottom and you could definately taste it. My meat lover scramble was okay but not great. The server, an older lady, was not very personable. Didnt check on me to see how the food was. The only thing that would probably bring me back is the prices of the food. I could have easily spent a few bucks more elsewhere.

When I am in Irving early I tend to visit shortys. They open early and the food is fresh. Honestly the food can be hit or miss. Last time I went the chicken fried steak was over cooked and the biscuits were not fresh. My daughter loves their biscuits and gravy.

Unfortunately the last time my husband and I went the atmosphere was not so friendly! My husband and I are Mexican Americans and the first time we went to Shortys was a great experience I loved it! Unfortunately the second time was not so pleasant! When we walked in the whole entire restaurant stopped and stared at us and it wasnt like a welcome stare. The waitress took about 15 minutes 20 minutes to ask us what we wanted to drink she never brought me my sugar or more creamer. After about 30 35 minutes my husband and I decided to leave because she never came to take her order or even give us menus they ignored us the whole time! I really felt racially profiled! unfortunately we will not be going back!

My wife and I did not feel welcomed there at all! We are Hispanic, and when we walked in, EVERYONE stopped to stare at us. It took 25 min for the redhead waitress (Heather) to offer us drinks. Instead of taking our order, she left to give all the white people toast and butter while we did not get any toast butter or even sugar for our coffee. We will not be going back, so we left. Racism is alive and well here! To make things worse, there were flies EVERYWHERE see for yourselves.

We ate here for the first time yesterday, and I guarantee it ll be far from our last visit. My mom ordered eggs, sausage, hash browns, and French toast. I ordered the breakfast quesadilla and French fries. Both of our meals were hot, fresh, delicious, and cooked to order in a timely manner. I highly recommend Shorty s, and while it was only our first visit, I think we ve found one of our new favorite diners in Irving.

Surprisingly, GREAT food. Be ready to be blown away by the service and food quality. The pancakes are very soft, and the biscuits and gravy come with a boatload of gravy. Overall, the biscuits are soft, the waffles are crispy, and the eggs are well seasoned. Do not let the outside/location of the restaurant drive you away, honestly it doesnt look so great and I felt like I was going to get stabbed but for that food, Id take a stabbing.

Dont let the storefront fool you, this was absolutely the best breakfast I have ever had. We like mom and pop places and this one does not disappoint. Friendly staff and owner. Regulars coming in ordering their usual. The french toast was the best I have ever had (including my own) and they got my eggs right, which is a big deal to me. Im picky about breakfast and this was wonderful. We arent local, but we will definitely be back each time we visit our daughter. Thanks again!!

This place was a bit hard to spot from the road, as you can see from the photos, the sign is a bit faded. Its in a little space in a very unassuming area of town but fret not, Shortly will greet you when you come in and puts you at ease. Once inside, its like youve been transported back in time to your country grandmas kitchen. Its as cliche and kitschy as youd want it to be. Its a family run place and you can tell that they love their little business. Food is unpretentious and good. Do them, and yourself, the favor and go visit soon!!

I was nervous about eating here at first. I wont get into that because its nothing to do with that. We wanted to try this place based off the reviews and I must say we were really happy we came here. The breakfast is delicious! Omg, the gravy is so good!!!! Shortys has great coffee as well. The waitress that took our order was really nice. She served our food and she never came back again. Shorty (overheard him tell a customer that he was Shorty) did come to refill my coffee. Thank you! I love the fact its a family owned restaurant. I love the decorations as well. I took two photos of the signs that I really loved. One because my husband continues to defend our Country and the other because it made us laugh! We want to bring the rest of our family and friends to try all that delicious food!

This was painfully mediocre. I ordered the Country Goodness. Biscuit, gravy, sausage patties and eggs. I was surprised when they brought me my food and the biscuits were TOPPED with the eggs and sausage. Woulda been nice if the menu had specified that, but its ok, I got over that quickly. The biscuits were obviously not homemade, I dont think the gravy was either. If Im ordering biscuits and gravy at a diner, I expect the biscuits to be homemade at the very least. I didnt get to try the pie, so that might have changed my experience entirely, but I most likely will not be returning to Shortys.

Me and my fiance were looking forward to coming here, it reminded us of a place we used to go back home. However, we didnt even step foot into the building before a man practically yelled at us that they didnt have any room, they were full and shooed us out the door. Didnt offer a wait time, or ask if we would mind waiting until a table was available. Thats just not how you should treat customers. And although we were so excited to come here, we will not be coming back again due to his very poor hospitality.

Shortys definitely falls short when it comes to country cookin. I was excited to try the place after seeing the previous almost 5 star rating; however, the feeling I had made a mistake came over me the second we entered the restaurant. The booths had a slightly sticky residue accompanied by a coffee (and God knows what else) stained window treatments. Usually the option of reviewing a menu by phone leaves me slightly irritated, but at Shortys I would have appreciated that option since the menus provided were paper copied with several of the same stains that were present on the curtains. Restaurant vibe aside, drink orders were next. The diet coke requested came out extremely flat, and when another was requested, the server mouthed off stating the next one will probably be the same way. Its slightly off putting that he seemed to be aware of the subpar beverage but continued to serve it guests anyways. Trying to push the negativity aside, we proceeded to order. I got the meat lovers skillet with biscuit and gravy, requesting sausage gravy substitution instead. Keeping our fingers crossed as we waited for our food, I enjoyed reading the several sassy signs adorning the walls. But that was really the only enjoyable part of the experience. Our order finally arrived and the cheese atop my skillet was still cold, the taters were seasonless chunks of potatoes, the bacon extremely greasy and limp, leaving a trail of grease on the plate and coating the overcooked eggs in a shiney glaze. Thankfully the skillet was served with a small side of picante sauce which really saved the flavorless breakfast I consumed for $9.25. The biscuit that came with the skillet was not your grandmas recipe. The bottom was burnt and crumbled to pieces when I split it open, hinting that my first bite would disappointing at best. The gravy came out hot with chunks of sausage resting on top in pools of grease. One bite was all it took to push the biscuit to the side and opt out. Quickly eating what we could and leaving the undesirables, we paid and left. Id like to say maybe the restaurant was just having an off day, but I wont be taking any second chances.

Great home style southern food that reminds me of home. Daily specials available. Friendly staff that knows all the regulars (and theres a lot of regulars). Cant go wrong stopping in to get a bite.

Fantastic country cooking and the owner and family are so great. Coffee is really good. Loved the chicken fried steak and taters. The desserts looked really good but was too full for that but they will package it to go.

True mom and pops experience, best breakfast in town, diverse and friendly. I a truck driver out of Indiana. Came in here with my wife and four kids. We are a mixed couple. Felt very welcome Coffee on point sweet tea one of the best Ive had and I am a southerner. The only way I can describe the food is by comparing it to your mamas cooking.

Great breakfast and lunch stop. Every time we come feels like we are back in Mom and Grandmas kitchen. From hamburger steak with onions and gray to sausage egg skillet and anything in between SOOO good. Just the right portion , price, service and good old home cooking with love... This place is a hidden gem within my city. The food is delicious, and the service superb. It is hands down the best breakfast in Irving. The quaint atmosphere reminds you of having breakfast with your grandma. My youngest child is picky with her eggs, and yet, she loves them here. Hopefully they can survive the virus and continue to feed my family and me for years to come.
