We stopped by during weekday for a quick lunch bite. I do like that they have 3 private lounges for more intimate meetups. We were seated quickly and the service was attentive, however the food left a lot to be desired. Its quite expensive in my opinion, even for lunch special. My husband ordered oyaku don, and its supposed to be tender chicken meats along with eggs. What we got, though, seemed to be chicken teriyaki + veggie omelet. Its not really authentic but still cost ~$15. I got the sashimi combo, and the sashimi was fresh. However theyre thinly sliced, and I really dont like my California rolls. The decor is nice but the food is way too expensive and mediocre. Were not coming back.

Great service. Clean Restaurant. Recommed restaurant owner use better quality fish for the price, or reduce the price. I was given a lot of low quality white fish in my chefs choice sushi. Thats cheap fish for what I paid. Overall, the food was decent, but expensive. The menu prices and food quality are not competitive with other local sushi restaurants.

It was my 1st AND the last visit. The server on my table did a good job. My 1 star, hopefully less than 1 star is about their food quality based on the price. I ordered $40 chirashi bowl and it was the worst dish Ive ever had. The sashimi was not fresh so I could smell fish and the portion and the variety were awful. So little of sashimi and the rice was bland. My husband and I will not recommend this restaurant at all. Hopefully the owner of this place would read the negative reviews seriously to improve their quality.

I recently visited this place for a fellowship gathering and appreciated that they had a spacious room to accommodate a large group. However, the service left much to be desired. It seemed like our waitress was still in training as she was unfamiliar with the tasks. At one point, she carried a hot miso soup over our heads and ended up spilling it on the table. Additionally, there were some mix-ups with our orders, likely because we had a large group. As for the food, I ordered the Alaskan roll, which was recommended as the chef s special, but the salmon didn t seem very fresh, and the texture of the asparagus inside the roll was off-putting. The tonkatsu was just plain in flavor, nothing remarkable. The hwe-deopbap (sashimi rice bowl) was actually decent, with a good portion size and taste.

Restaurant had terrible waves of sewage smell Avocado bomb was tasty and tiny. Spider roll was subpar to HEB sushi. Bibimbap hardly had any meat but was full of veggies if you like that, same with the udon, lots of veggies and tiny crushed ice sized pieces of chicken. Overall the portions are expensive and small. The value for the food just wasn t there and better food for less money can be found elsewhere There was also a long wait for some reason. Restaurant appeared fully staffed and wasn t busy either. Several people nearby left their table to hunt down the wait staff Not mad at this place but we will not be coming back Kid-friendliness: Not kid friendly- no kids menu and had Korean dancers on tv dancing like strippers

Update: We returned to try this restaurant again. We didn t get the gyro a this time but the table next to us did and it looked well cooked. What we did get was the crab crackers. They were light and delicate and packed with crab. They were truly delicious. The nigiri and the roll were both very good. We d love a couple more roll options with less sauce. Still no plum wine. I d love it if you added even the small bottom of choya! The staff is lovely. As you can probably tell from this photo, the gyoza was undercooked. The sushi wasn t too bad but while they have an extensive list of wines, I was surprised and disappointed to find not a single plum wine. The matcha tiramisu wasn t bad but I ve had much better. This was our second time trying this restaurant and while I d eat there again if I was in the area, I wouldn t go out of my way when there are closer, better options.

Went here with some friends. We got seated in a booth, which ended up being the first issue. Zero support on the seat, and vertical backrest make for a pretty uncomfortable place to sit, so if you do decide to go here, probably try and sit at a regular table with chairs. So let me get right into it - the sushi was not very good at all, I got aalmon belly that was tough, and very fishy, probably just old and/or poorly refrigerated. Nigiri is also $5 PER PIECE - double the standard price for old fish. Also had the baked mussel appetizer, and that was also possibly old, and very fishy/chewy. Overall, not a good meal, and definitely not worth the insane premium they are charging. Service was on the slow side, but not terrible.

Fantastic tasting food, we ve gone for both lunch and dinner. The menu has details* and pictures, which I like! We have had the dirty 6 roll, mango tango, spicy edamame, house sake, the Fuji apple sake, udon noodles with chicken and pecorino Mac and cheese. It has a nice environment, sitting at the bar was nice to see the chefs make the rolls. * There were two rolls that were ordered that did not list all ingredients (mango tango has cucumber and dirty six had avocado I believe). Other rolls list these types of ingredients so was unsure why these didn t have everything on the menu. Portions were also pretty small (except the sake ha!) so gave 4/5 stars. It s a great place overall for date night in the north Austin suburb area and we will likely go again soon.

The super market across the street has more fish in their rolls. We did a dinner carry out order and spent about $100 worth of only sushi rolls. With our order, we got a few yellow tail rolls. The fish in the rolls were meagerly portioned. This was our second time ordering from Zoa and the first time, they were stingy with the wasabi. I asked the hostess when we picked up our order for more wasabi, and instead of just grabbing some from the kitchen, she proceeded to open our to-go bag, show each tray, and in other words look, they put wasabi in your order!. You spend a hundred bucks on food, how much more is it to get $0.50 worth of wasabi from the back. I ll spend my hard earned money somewhere else.

The sushi was delicious. Good portioning of fish/rice. Pictured is the Sake Crunch Roll, Yellowtail Belly and Salmon Belly nigiri, and Hungry Roll. They were all amazing. By far, the Tuna Party Roll was the best though! No pictures of that one as we ate it up! That tuna melted in your mouth. Definitely will be back.

The food and the service here was wonderful! Immediately we were greeted at the door and shown to our table. Our server, whose name we didnt catch but had lovely pink hair, was very attentive and even offered to take a picture of us together after we took turns taking some of each other. The sake was nice and warm, the ramen and udon were both very flavorful and generously portioned. The weather caused the internet to cut out, which our server politely explained. They got us checked out before it went down again so we wouldnt be left waiting after our meal. When we left, they also opened the door for us to leave which was such a nice gesture, and let us know it started sprinkling. Overall, it was very clean with tables being gently but promptly cleared and all of the staff greeted and said goodbye to every patron.

What up?! What up?! What up?! Sushi Zoa! Is by far one of the best sushi restaurants in the east side of the Austin area! If not the best. I will keep looking for you wonderful people. Until then Zoa is here to satisfy your sushi cravings. Before we get to the details. I want to mention that, I will most definitely be back. Let s get to it! Atmosphere: It is a small but cute restaurant with an aesthetic of a higher end restaurant. It s curious for a restaurant like this to be located in such an area. You d think a restaurant like this would be at the Domain. But hey it adds to its personality. For those seeking a good place to celebrate a special occasion. They do offer isolated rooms to dine in. When talking to the staff they mentioned that they could accommodate for about 30 people. Service: I keep reading the same things reviews about how the staff is friendly, but not engaging. I will agree the staff is welcoming and friendly. However, for the not engaging part I disagree. The master chef and our waitress were very engaging. In fact the master chef customized a dish for us. I don t know about you all, but that s pretty engaging if you ask me. On top of that the waitress proceeded to engage in conversations and was on point with topping off our drinks. Including our hot green tea. Finally, Food: IF possible I would rate this place a 4.5 out of 5. but google again does not give you that option. From their complimentary miso soup to their sushi, and even to their hot green tea (which upon assessment was not made with just cheap Lipton tea bags). Every thing, and I do mean everything was delicious. My only critique on the food is their presentation was slightly off. Their rolls are too big, and due to their size the sushi fails to stay together. Some sushi will crumble more than others. We found that the those sushi s that were soaked in some special watery sauces were more sustainable to this. So be careful what you order and if you do get that sushi. Be cautious how you eat it. The sushi still delicious despite not maintaining its composure. I hope they are able to find a solution to this problem. Some people have stated on their google review that the food here was too expensive for the quality of food they severe. I cannot disagree more. This place is actually on the cheaper side when it comes to a sushi restaurant. And I do eat a lot of sushi. So I know what I m talking about. For the amount of food and the same ambience you get at this place for about $90 - $100. At other restaurants for etc. Uchiko (At N Lamar) you would get for about $170 - $240. The affordability, proximity, and quality make it worth going back to. So to wrap up this review. The sushi is great, the ambience is magnificent, and the staff is welcoming. Please come down to Suhsi Zoa, and see what the hype is all about. Dietary restrictions: Pescatarian diet.

I always have the tiramusa at any restraunt I go to. So Ive got my own ranking on just this one type of dessert. This was a 9/10. Nice and fluffy. The cream was perfectly balanced with sponge. The coffee flavor wasnt overbearing. The whipped cream topping brought it all together, and the sprinkles on the top were just enough to add a good texture.

Walk in with a odd smell I hate to say this but smell like a public bathroom, food wasn t so good or the menu is just overpriced. paid $9 pre tax for 5 pieces of machine-made dumplings, $14 for a small plate of calamari, it s just not worth it, either the price should be adjusted or the food has to be improve. But our server was really cool tho! Very informative and he did a good job.

Came here for the first time and was greeted by Sage, who was so friendly and helpful! She did an excellent job as a host and is one of the reasons I ll definitely be back! My server Rachellen? Or Rachelle?(I m so sorry if I got that spelling wrong) was so wonderful! She was an expert with the menu and took extra time helping my wife make a decision on her order. The food was excellent and delicious, their rolls have plenty of variety and all look amazing and colorful. Their sashimi was fresh and flavorful. The baked rolls were also excellent! I cannot stress enough how superb the staff was, Sage and Rachellen really knocked it out of the park! I also had their fried ice cream which was surprisingly tasty even though I only ordered the vanilla. Hands down you have to come check this place out! It was an amazing experience and I commend the chefs and staff for really having their performance be top notch! Parking: In a strip center and the parking was fairly packed due to the other businesses.

Warning this is not a payed review lol. As someone who was stationed overseas (Japan) I ve gotten first hand taste of authentic Asian cuisine, such as sushi. This place was so amazing the only thing separating it was the price due to the whole economics of each country. To be honest people who complain about food being expensive would rather spend 12 bucks at a fast food restaurant because they re not used to actual quality food. THEY SELL SUSHI it s gonna smell like fish at time lol. I wish my Japanese was stronger so I could have conversed with the chef. The tempura ice cream was delicious! Ohhhh also they have military discount, in case y all were wondering. Best $60 I ve spent this week.

It was a busy Friday evening. The restaurant was packed but we were happy to be seated at the Sushi Bar. The service was great and the orders came out quickly. Modern decor and great presentation of sashimi and sushi. However, spicy tuna mango roll was not spicy, lion king roll lacks kewpie sauce on the top, and wasabi is really light no kick at all. Some minor deficiencies, but the sashimi platter had very fresh sashimi. Excited to have this new neighborhood restaurant. One of the better Japanese restaurants in the area. I still feel overall is a great restaurant and definitely return in the future.

I was super disappointed with the quality of the food for the price. The rainbow roll is made with cheap, chopped up imitation crab (menu says crab meat ) and the avocado on it was turning brown in several spots. The fish did not taste quality either. You can find much better sushi for a better price not far from here. I won t be returning. Edit based on response: I didn t say it was bad or off. I said that the quality of your product does not warrant the price. Not every sushi restaurant uses chopped up imitation crab and those that do don t charge what you charge. When asked about my food, I didn t see the point of saying anything to the server because the quality of your product is not something that could have been fixed in that moment. You should be serving paying customers better than you d feed your family.

Neighborhood gem? More like neighborhood trash. OMgoodness this place smells so fishy and nasty. I usually love sushi but honestly I should have turned around when the intense fish smell hit me in the face as I opened the door. They obviously purchased the positive reviews they have because they have literally been open for one minute and they have a surprisingly high number. But hey they are serving fish and since I have eaten sushi all over the world, I said oh well so it smells a little fishy, and I still want to try it cause it is close to my house. So I order a few rolls and some sake. Service seems great, i dig the k pop vibe, the waitress goes the extra mile to clarify some stuff on my order and I thought, hey wow! Most asian places won t do that due to the language barrier! So now I am really looking forward to eating here every week for the rest of my life. Then, I get my Philadelphia Roll. The salmon looks really suspect. It looks too red if you know what I mean. Like old. But I try it anyway. The taste is that of the super discounted salmon at HEB when it is separating in the package because it s actually probably expired. I immediately called the waitress over and tell her as politely as possible that the salmon literally tastes old. Oh but now she doesn t speak English and just starts smiling and speaking over her shoulder to the male sushi chef. I don t speak their language but I feel certain I know how that conversation went. It s really awkward because I m the only customer in there even though its Friday mid lunch hour. Another bad sign. I don t even bother with the other rolls. I just ask for the check, pay it and leave. $62.50 down the drain later, I go to chick fil a because I m still starving.

The sushi and sashimi was very good and fresh. The rice was a bit soft so the nigiri was falling apart a bit while trying to pick it up. The spicy tuna maki was very good as well but was made with the nori on the inside as opposed to the outside which I prefer. The matcha tiramisu was very good and unique. The matcha flavor was very subtle and the portion was small but overall very good. $8 for a bowl of vanilla ice cream was a bit much for what it was. The fried rice was delicious and had plenty of flavor. The tempura only had two shrimp in it which was pretty disappointing and the tempura itself was bland. Gyoza was very good and everyone liked that. Overall I would recommend this as a sushi spot but the prices are pretty high for what youre getting and I wouldnt recommend bringing kids. I will be back to try the ramen for lunch soon with an update. Update: I recently went here and got one of the very overpriced chirashi bowls and it was foul. The fish and veggies tasted off and had a funky aftertaste. Ive had better food from pokebowl. Lowering rating from three to two stars.
