Visited the Gus S. Wortham Memorial Fountain while visiting the Waugh Drive Bat Colony. The Dandelion named fountain is scenic spot of Houston. It was built in 1978 by Houston Architect William T Cannady. The fountain is made of a central bronze shaft sprouting multiple bronze sprinkler pipes which create a dandelion like spherical spray of water. The fountain is covered with semi circular tree garden. At night the fountain light up with colorful light displays. No roadside parking. You have to park a far from the park and walk to the fountain. The fountain water offers joggers, cyclist and dog walkers a cool relief from Houston Heat. When we visited, we sat on the provided seating area and enjoyed the sunset.

I proposed to my fiancé here. It was a perfect location and the Dandelion provided a great backdrop and atmosphere for our moment.

Thank god for American General life insurance and the Wortham foundation for giving back to Houston with beautiful exhibits like this one in the heart of Buffalo Bayou Park alongside Allen Parkway right before you get to Waugh and the bat cave.

This fountain definitely caught my eye while I was visiting Buffalo Bayou Park. This fountain was gifted to the city of Houston in 1978 and was inspired by a similar fountain in Australia. It is designed to look like a dandelion and it is just so beautiful!

The Gus S. Wortham Memorial Fountain consists of a central bronze shaft sprouting multiple bronze sprinkler pipes coated in lacquer which create a dandelion-like spherical spray of water. The fountain is a popular spot for dog walkers, especially considering it s just a hop, skip, and a jump from the Johnny Steele Dog Park.

Part of the buffalo bayou trails, neat work of art many refer to as the water dandelion. Pretty and different both at day and night.

This used to be a Houston icon, very sad taxes/budget are missing to fix it to its original beauty. Straight flows of water in several parts when it supposed to be a mist all around. The piece of art was awesone when new, the park has improved a lot. Please add more reviews about fixing it back!!

Great place for family pictures, and its right next to the Kinder foot path. It is also a 2 minute walk from the Waugh Bat Colony that heads out at dusk. Great location for many different tastes of what Houston has to offer outdoors.
