This is the spot to watch the nightly bat flights. Theres a small exhibit explaining whats happening with 3 panels (similar to NPS). You should arrive 10 minutes before sunset or earlier for a spot on the grassy bank. Its heaviest for about 10 minutes. There is a smell depending on the wind direction. Parking is very limited. No water or trash.

Pretty unique sight to see all the bats leave the bridge. And there were a few predator birds (probably hawks) around trying to snatch a meal.

Amazing!! Been twice. A few key points from experience: 1. Bats can come out before or after sunset so arrive 30 minutes before sunset and expect to stay for about an hour 2. Can bring a chair or blanket or just sit on edge of the sidewalk 3. Bats dont come out in the rain or cold (50 or lower) so check the weather before going 4. Metered street parking is usually available on Rosine street- a short block west and south of the bridge

Fantastic experience. Natural aromas! Grab a spot next to the viewing platform next to the bridge and hang out until sunset. Then enjoy the long flow of bats as they fly up into the buildings! Some birds of prey hunting them as they climb around the buildings. Quite the sight and great experience. Bring some water, its hot outside. Defi itely a must do if youre in Houston.

Nature is truly amazing!! Despite the ravages of Harvey this is still an awesome sight! On the dot 15 mins after the scheduled sunset the bats start swarming under the bridge and start flowing out towards downtown. The collective noun for bats is a cloud of bats, which is very appropriate!! The hawks swooping and diving to get their evening meal was an added bonus!

I thought it d be a huge swarm but they came out at a steady stream. It s was totally worth it though, there were hawks that came swooping down to get them so that was pretty rad

If you havent seen a blanket of bats cover the sky while a lone bird of prey attempts to grab a snack prior to bed, check it out! Just make sure you go while they are in season. If you go during the wrong chunk of the year you may hear them, but they likely will not be coming out in a massive cloud (you may not see any at all).

I dont make it out here often, but I love it when I do. I took my mom here and she lost her mind. She hates bats! The thing is, once she saw that they werent coming at her, she got lost in the awe of 250,000 bats swarming out from under one bridge. Recommended as an off-the-wall date spot. Bring a blanket and a few drinks and youre set.

I love to take tourists here. It s not a mall, or a statue, or a building; its an experience. It s just a psuedo-park by a bridge that bats live under. It s a great place to sit and talk for a bit while you wait for the sun to set and the bats to take off. Bring a blanket and take a load off. You may want to make this a pre-dinner thing (as opposed to cute picnic-ing it), unless the smell of about 250,000 bats living under the same bridge makes you hungry. It s crazy to see them come out for feeding and will be an experience you and your loved ones wont forget. Pro-tip: Dont tell your friend who is afraid of things like this what is about to happen. They will get over it once they realize the bats arent coming out to bite them, but instead to eat the bugs they probably also hate.
