Beautiful spot near the city for nature walks. I feel that visiting during the spring or fall is probably best to maximize the amount of plants you re able to see. I visited during the summer and it was beautiful, but you could tell some plants were struggling due to the extreme heat. If you do choose to visit during the summer months, I recommend a quick visit to the gift shop to peruse, cool off, and purchase popsicles.

I love botanic gardens and was a member for many years. But honestly, I just wasnt a huge fan of this one. It was nice enough, but the transition between areas didnt have anything to offer. I was there beginning of August, and the culinary gardens were overgrown & half dead. Many areas did not have plants marked with names or descriptions. Not being native to that climate, I found it frustrating. Its a beautiful area & they have lots of space, so hopefully it will improve.

Visited the Houston Botanic Garden for the Radiant Nature Festival. It was stunning, with 50+ larger-than-life light displays, a 100-foot magnolia tunnel, and a walk-in kaleidoscope zone. There were sculptures of birds, animals, flowers, and even a 50-foot pagoda. The Lunar New Year section had vibrant lanterns, dragons, and zodiac signs. Plenty of interactive exhibits, photo ops, and family-friendly fun along the mile-long path. Tickets: $25-$30 for adults, kids 3 and under free. Highly recommend!

I went on a Tuesday at 10AM and had the entire park all to myself! I enjoyed the tranquility and the curated music that you can scan at each biome. It got hot around 12PM, but by that point, I had already finished making my way through the entire park. Definitely stop by the parks shop for home grown goodies and unique gifts to take home!

Tried out their dog friendly Saturday and it was a blast for my pup. She got to experience a lot of smells and get her energy out. Bathrooms were air conditioned so we had a good cool down spot. Before we knew it we had already been there for an hour! I really hope they continue their dog friendly days in the winter so we can bring our senior dogs as well!!

Overall I was pleased with my experience here. I felt that for the price it was worthwhile for aa quick visit. I dont think Id return though, even as a plant enthusiast. The gardens are somewhat underwhelming and many the plants looked terrible due to the heat and sun. I also think the grounds are poorly planned but thats just my opinion.

I can say this botanic garden is kept so beautifully. I visited the one at corpus christi with my los and it was not as well kept as the one here. They had a nice butterfly house thats about it. Everyone here works so hard to keep this place well kept considering the surrounding area. They also have great camps for your kids that helps them see and cultivate that love for the outdoors.

First and foremost, shout out to all of the employees who work here! They were very informative and work hard to keep this place presentable for visitors. I can tell Although there is an admission fee to enter the botanic garden, it was definitely worth it. I have been recommended to come to this place by a few friends and it did not disappoint. On the contrary, this place exceeded my expectations. The trails, the amenities, the gift shop, the structure, it was all great! An easy pick for a day with family and friends to just chill and make the most of a nice day. Also a solid choice for a date with your significant other or even a treat yourself gift to yourself. The setting is very relaxing on its own and can help when you just need to unwind after a long week. Best times to go would probably be during the spring and summer, just be mindful with that summer heat or those spring allergies maybe you should try going in the fall either way, I can assure you that you ll have a good time if you re the type who likes being outside. Be sure to wear some comfortable shoes. Fun fact: there s some type of splash zone play area across the bridge. It helps with the summer heat.

Our daughter had seen this place and recommended it to us. We decided to go for our anniversary. We expected to walk around the whole day but it only took us about 3 hours though cant say we did every single Trail. There is too many of them and too many options to go from one point to the other. It was a very Scenic and wonderful experience. Lots of variety and plants and scenery and well taken care of. I love that they had plaques for a lot of the plants so you knew what they were and many options for ways to go. Highly recommend bringing water bottle or something to fill with water as they have very good drinking fountains placed at various locations. This activity involves a lot of walking but they have a lot of resting places. Also recommend making sure to wear a hat as youre not always in the shade. Employees were all very pleasant and nice. Was kind of taken back at the cost of most items in the gift shop but that would be the only negative

Houston Botanic Garden : So mad / disappointed with them !!! First time there, my wife was having medical event, on verge of passing out in the heat (were seniors) so l plead to get her into a cool place. They refused to help until we paid entrance fee: Given her condition, wasnt sure if we would be able to enjoy the visit. I paid entrance fee for access to AC in Gift Shop. She stabilized enough to leave after 40 minutes sitting in Gift Shop. We left without enjoying the grounds, Never Going Back! Woman in Gift shop was wonderful but younger staff working ticket booth and young man in office were deplorably insensitive.

I went in spring of 2023. I did not go for the art or the light show as , to me , from the photos, this was not what a botanical garden is about even though the illuminated art was and appeared to be very beautiful. Most comments and ratings seem to be about this illuminated night time art exhibit but not about the actual botanical garden. It is still too early to critique the garden but , as is mentioned by the organization, it takes private monies and volunteers to maintain and grow a 1st class garden. Saying that I will say that the garden, from the get go , was not located in the best location , in the city, when it should have been located in Memorial Park. A 30 year plan to develope this garden is kind of hard to take as many of us will not be around even in 20 years or even 10. If you look at the incredible progress Herman Park has made, or Buffalo Bayou Park or even Memorial Park, you re going to get a better bang for free to enjoy nature , greenery and or beautiful gardens. Another drawback is that there isn t enough shade and there s no tree canopy to prevent you from burning during summer days May thru end of September, so it is very uncomfortable and, actually not doable to walk this garden during those months. The garden fauna area is relatively small compared to the 130 acres that encompass the site but if you like to walk, during cooler months, it might be a thing to do just to experience the site. Even the Mercer Botanical Garden is a better experience and Herman Parks 2 small gardens are really super so while we cannot change the location of this botanic garden , 10 miles outside the city, in a run down part of town, we can always pretend and hope.

I enjoyed the lanterns, they were beautiful. I had a very bad experience for my birthday with online tickets not being valid and with nit being allowed to use the restroom 15min before close delayed my entry time. I gave them one star back because they gave me a refund. But they still as of May 7th have NOT responded to the email THEY requested I send. Nor have they made ANY assurances that none of it should have happened and that they will make any effort to prevent guests being treated that way...or actually apologize. They have now apologized and assured me staff would be told to let exiting people use the bathroom. So they get another star.

I came here once a couple months ago for free because I was volunteering for an event and I am grateful for that. This place I think does cost $15 or something to park and maybe a couple of dollars to enter but I m not sure. I have not come since and I definitely want to go back because this place is so beautiful. I did have a little bit of a weird experience here because of the 5301.a cultural and arts center that is done by the maiz culture people. My friends in the association have now left a alongside me and the people who are still working alongside. Those people know that they are doing harm like actually hurting individuals and affecting peoples personal lives while lying about it.. I just want to get that word out there since they do work with the botanic garden. As always much love from Houston and the universe.

I am a huge fan of botanical gardens. I love going in spring because thats when they are REALLY showing off their beauty. This is the first one that has been a HUGE disappointment! There was one small spot that had gorgeous amaryllis flowers, and they were the same flower over and over just a different color. We walked around for 45 minutes, and were sooo disappointed!! We stopped by the coffee cart to get something to drink, and it had a back in 15 minutes sign. We kept coming back and 30 minutes later, and it was still closed. I had a suspicion that the woman sitting on the phone in the herb garden was supposed to be running it, but Im not really sure soo... We finally gave up and went to the gift shop, purchased two bottles of water and a cookie for a grand total of $15. !! I normally take tooo many pictures but there was nothing about this place, I wanted to take photos off. If you are looking for a place to walk with trails, this is your spot. Just dont expect too many flowers.

UPDATE 3/29/24 Slowly but surely this garden is maturing! The irises were especially beautiful. I realize there is a 30 year plan, but I wonder if leadership can take steps to enhance the garden in the meantime. Houston s climate is ideal for gardeners, and it would be great to show off all the different types of vegetation that homeowners could grow in their own yards. How about an Azalea garden? Camellias? Hibiscus? Bougainvillea? Frangipanis? Crinum Lilies? I d bet many residents would donate free plants from their own gardens. I see so much potential for this garden. Ditch the tree bridge concepts and create a garden where people can come to reflect, contemplate, and be inspired. Give us ideas to take home to our own backyards! I like the progress but let s go faster! Some of us won t be around in 30 years! UPDATE 4/15/23 Visit the HBG if you want to feel better about your private home garden. You will find weeds in the beds and uncut grassy areas. Its a very natural setting and still a bit underwhelming for the 4th largest city in the country. UPDATE 9/29/22: I will give the garden credit for making some improvements. The donor names on the bridge are legible again, and most of the flower beds are maintained. I still saw a few beds with weeds and dead plants, which in my opinion should be maintained at all times. Having said that, the HBG is a beautiful place to take a stroll. It does have loads of potential. I just wish the progress was quicker. Original Review (July 2022) I m not going to pull any punches. I am a member and a donor and I was disappointed with the progress of the garden after almost two years of existence. I can understand the lack of new development but I cannot understand unmaintained plant beds full of obvious weeds and water features malfunctioning. I walked around for over two hours. Maybe my hopes were set too high because I visited the Fort Worth Botanic Garden in May and was utterly blown away by their rose garden and Japanese gardens. Houston needs to pick up the pace quickly. Yes, I know Fort Worth s garden is almost 100 years old but we are Houston and we can do big things here!

There was an exhibit of large steel and colored glass sculptures of insects and they were also putting stone and wood sculptures from Zimbabwe. I used my regular camera one converted for infrared.

Everyone is nice, and it is very relaxing. I have a membership, but did not go to the lighting event this year because I think it is too expensive for members. Seniors should be free or no more than $10 for special events. I am so thankful that I live so close. I do recommend it to friends.

It was really surreal experience to visit this place during this winter. They had a theme for the year of the dragon and it was really fantastic! There were lots of innovative art pieces and entertaining sound effects. I would suggest getting the tickets in advance and visit the place late at night. The colors for the light shows really come out together on starry nights. I cant wait to go back again next year another interesting concept they come up with.

It was our first time here! The staff was extremely helpful. Bring swimming trunks for the kids! Theres a light water activity area, and you will get a little wet. We loved it! There are plenty of photo opportunities. Recommend sunscreen and comfortable shoes!

This is an excellent family experience. There are local food , snack and drink booths to enjoy as you explore. Beautiful in the day, but it comes alive after sunset with anamatronics and lights.

Whimsical garden and sculpture park Houston botanic features plenty of themed areas with physical art. Walkways are paved and broad (but not shaded) - very mobility accessible. While there are plants at the garden, the majority of the park is around the sculptures. Would love to provide a 5-star rating but tickets are at $15/person. The Houston Botanic Garden is a nice-place to visit if you haven t been but not one I d return to.

We went to the Houston Botanic Garden to see the Radiant Nature display and it did not disappoint. It was breathtaking and just long enough for my 8 year to enjoy. The colors and lights are so vibrant and the staff do a great job at keeping people moving through the experience. I would definitely come again to visit another exhibit!

I felt let down when I found the flowers were wilted and there wasnt much to admire. If you compare a visit to the Japanese garden at Herman Park and the McGoven Botanical Garden during the same season, youll be pleasantly surprised by how well they maintain the gardens and ensure the flowers are in full bloom, all for free. In contrast, at the Houston Botanical Garden, where admission is required, you may find the experience disappointing.

It was an amazing experience. Although my date still hasnt given me our pictures from the night. The lights were phenomenal. Youll hardly think about the length of the trail. There were plenty of stops along the way.

It was an amazing experience that should be had by anyone visiting Houston, and even people that live in Houston. Great place for a date, or to bring your kids around. This year was the Year of the Dragon, and so they decorated accordingly.

Radiant Nature is a great exhibition. The parking is not great. I had to park 10 minutes away because the onsite parking was reserved. I couldnt pay on site either. (The parking was never full) The website of the events NEEDS more information about the parking lot. Update: Only one email was received before the event. Inside the website, it wasnt easy to find on FAQ about the parking.

I got to go to the Radiant Nature event for the first time this year, and it was better than I expected! So many colorful displays! Everything was beautiful. No detail was overlooked either. The lanterns lit everything up and it was really magical. It took us about 1 1/2 hours to see everything and thats taking our time with lots of photos!

The grounds were nice, but they had more fake plants than real. Maybe its because of the time of year, but I was really disappointed by how much polyester they had on display.
