This bar is an immersive experience - an adult playground mixed with an art installation. If I could just live in that dome with the Bluetooth I would never leave. P.S. if you see a handsome gentleman with big glasses at the door, make sure to ask him about his mustache wax.

Cool place but automatically charging 20% gratuity is a big fail. When two people grab two beers, this isn t when you add an automatic 20% gratuity. Don t spend my money for me. It s a shame because we liked the place but this kind of business practice is so out of touch, I ll never go back.

Notsuoh . . . what shall I say? It was one of our event places for our Class Reunion about several weeks ago on July 21, 2024. I could not make it, but they had a fine arts time. We are from the Performing Arts High School for variety and artistry, the pictures I viewed were friendly, menagerie photo views. I heard of climbing stairs, ordered out pizza, and museum-like room design passages. I might get a chance to one day tag. A conversation piece.

This is of the most amazing bars Ive ever been to and a very fast favorite, and one that Ill definitely be back to. I didnt take any pictures because its really more of an experience than anything else. The bar itself is an entire living art project, the best word for which I can find is hypnagogic, describing the state of your mind immediately before sleep, wherein your thoughts become random, jumbled, and nonsensical. Appropriately, the music (which I also loved) is largely dream pop and bedroom pop (make sure youve got Shazaam on your phone before coming!) and the entire space is eerie and hauntingly beautiful to the point where I needed to double-check whether a toilet was a real toilet before using it. While it requires a bit of a open mind and a willingness to soak in very atmospheric art, I think its still accessible enough that the majority of people will really enjoy it. My main gripe: the service is good when its empty but during even slightly more busy hours, I find myself waiting an eternity just for a beer and frequently getting skipped over altogether because the staff just cant keep up. It was such a frustrating point that I eventually stopped going altogether. This place is great to stop by earlier in the day but get out before the crowds form. Overall 6/10.

More CHaRM than B4 the FiRST FiRE (Okay, Im showing my AGe), LeSS CHeSS... OKay... CHESS used to be the emphasis. If you wanted a good game you headed here. Chess is not so popular anymore so .. the vibe was ALWAYS Funky & seemingly off-kilter, & intriguing. It STILL is times two! No chess.. It left a bad taste in my mouth that the kid behind the bar asked me to leave... Id bought a drink (prolly just Coke as I was hoping for a game of chess... NEVERMIND.. when it WAS a chess hall, it could/would be packed w/ players.. no people but he & I... I was moving around goggling at the asthetic beauty when he called out you need to leave... I was what? Hadnt been back, glanced at the door passing on the train... I wish I had old pix.. even w/ wall to ceiling chess, & the players across the room seem to be seated at a slightly different orientation to gravity than you... So whoever set it up knew how to play with perspective and forced perspective and all that good stuff. I see the beautiful photos that you people have added. Never needed to take a staircase up to the third floor much necessary case after a rooftop.. had I known.. after seeing so many beautiful photos I really want to come back and explore ... Especially the rooftop... :) :) ... ? I need to visit, have a drink and a plate then reevaluate my * ratings. Whats on my currently based on the beautiful pictures you people have posted, I never tasted anything there more than a Coke or a beer or a mixed drink and a sandwich or such. So Id like to see and taste and hear whats up now..

This is one of my regular hangs. I love it there! Lately, theyve had a lot of Instagram exposure, so, its packed a lot of the time & you should be prepared to wait in line--youll be carded at the door so dont forget your ID! Ill still come here to support the owner and my friends who work there. If youre there Th-Sat visit the resident DJ, Willist on the 3rd floor *door to the right after walking in (pic of him in the lounge robe), his set up is sweet! Make conversation and see if you can spot my 3D artwork, pic in my post! Also, be sure to try the planetarium dome; The acoustics carry your voice across the room as if you were right next to the person. The downside, the person next to you will not be able to hear you very well! Ill continue coming here for many, many, years to come! Its a living, breathing work of art, so theres always something new to discover if u keep an eye out!

Its not like it used to be however it still has that outside the box artistic feel to it. When you walk in youll enter a surrealist dream full of all sorts of odds and ends, to the right you will see the stage and the Bar on the opposite side and the restrooms to the right down the hall. A long staircase next to the stage takes you to a small lounge area with a bar with a spiral staircase to the left which takes you to the roof. There you find a nice hidden outside patio among the buildings. There is another doorway leading inside the second floor area full of art paintings and statues as well as other items that pay homage to the department store it used to be back when Houston was coming up. In this area you will find a dome with lights and music where you can lounge and immerse yourself in art and music. A wonderful spot to start or end your evening downtown.

Easily one of the coolest places Ive ever been. Drinks are great but Id go in if it were just a museum, too. I swear this place just keeps going, youd never expect how big it is and how much there is to see. I used to hang out here a lot but since Im not downtown as much, I havent been over in a while. Theres both outdoor terraces and indoor seating, and they have areas that are loud and party-like and more chill and calm. I have no idea what the parking situation is, though theres metered street parking thats free on Sundays. Ive always just taken the train, since Nots is right at Preston station on the Redline. Theres a lot of other bars you can walk to if you want to bar hop, and Underground Food Hall is nearby and has awesome restaurants to soak up the alcohol.

I love this bar and the atmosphere. I ve been coming for awhile and love the upstairs rooms. My friends and I went yesterday on 11/3/23 around 12:30-1:30am. My boyfriend ordered 2 shots of house tequila. The girl bartender was visibly drunk or on drugs. She waved a siete lenguas bottle and said that s better tequila. I said if it s the same price as a HOUSE, sure. Sure enough it wasn t lol but she still poured them. I understand there s a 20% grat on all tabs, which is why you want us to order more expensive tequila. Anyways, she was super rude and condescending and slurring her words. I think she was more drunk than anyone at that bar. They need to fire her and find a better bartender, just bc you re getting an automatic tip doesn t mean you should completely ditch being a good, sober nice bartender. I had never seen her there before but I sure hope I don t see her again. Seems like she s always drunk or on drugs since there was a previous review 3 days ago about that same lady. I know for a fact it s the same one since she was THAT BAD.

I have been alot, as it is one of my favorite bars. However- the past two times- most recent being Halloween night- the girl at the downstairs bar has been an absolute ***hole. Me and my friends are all in the industry, we get how things get busy. But the way she talks to people and her lack of urgency to greet new people is terrible. Last time, we heard her arguing with a girl over a shot she didn t know and demand the girl to pull her ID out (we all knew what shot she meant). This time, she started SCREAMING at the top of her lungs when we headed towards to the upstairs bar after almost ten minutes of stitting at her bar without being greeted. It was nowhere near as packed as it usually is and my friend waved at her, she saw us- then proceeded to talk up two guys that were walking in.When we were leaving for the night, she jokingly crossed herself and when she started talking she sounded visibly drunk. The guy upstairs was extremely nice and efficient and made amazing mules and espresso martinis (which she assumed we weren t going to buy).

Definitely one of the cooler bars, but the bartenders seemed stressed and burned out. There were only 2 bartenders. The first one was short and would not make what I ordered because it was different the second one came out of the bathroom very apparently on coke and asked my ordered twice and then preceded to text while his phone was on bluetooth. While this may have just been the two bartenders these things typically are a representation of management and ownership. This place could be really great if it had proper staff. Front of house staff needs proper support from management and ownership to be able to do their job. I had the best time with customers.

We were there early around 7. My friends and I were all sober as this was the first bar we came to. They had cool decorations and such. But there was some washed up bouncer with blonde hair vaping by the stairs. We wanted to check the upstairs and asked him questions to which he would be rude to my husband and say do I look like the bartender. My husband was like so you don t know any prices? Which the bouncer answered rudely no do you have sense to ask the bar tender? After that we just left. I would somewhat get it if it was midnight the bar was full and the bouncer was dealing with drunk people all day. It was 7 PM the bouncer was rude, we weren t drunk we were kindly asking questions, he was sitting there vaping, visibly annoyed by us and the bar was COMPLETELY EMPTY. no people were there. Makes me wonder if it is because of the attitude of staff. We went to Little Dipper love afterward just a few steps away and it was lovely!

We tipped $25 on 4 drinks (gratted us $11 we tipped $14). We didn t know until our receipt was texted to us. We are not stingy tippers but if you re going to add gratuity you should let your patrons know. I felt like it was a little sneaky.

I had the incredible opportunity to perform at the iconic and legendary Notsouh Art Bar in the heart of Houston with the talented Jazz Fusion band led by Robert. It was an unforgettable experience that truly captured the essence of live music and artistic expression. Notsouh Art Bar provided the perfect ambiance for our performance, with its intimate setting and vibrant atmosphere. The stage came alive as we delved into a fusion of jazz, funk, and improvisation, captivating the audience from start to finish. The bands synergy and musicianship were nothing short of remarkable. Each member brought their unique style and expertise, creating a harmonious blend of melodies and rhythms that resonated with the crowd. The energy in the room was electric, and the connection between the band and the audience was palpable. I want to extend a special thanks to Robert for his exceptional leadership and vision. His passion for music and dedication to his craft shone through every note, inspiring all of us to reach new heights in our performance. It was an honor to share the stage with such talented individuals. Notsouh Art Bar, with its rich history and reputation as a hub for creativity, provided the perfect platform for us to showcase our artistry. Meow Wolf vibes 100% with the alcohol in tow I was annoyed that you had to buy alcohol gain access to the second and third floor but it is what it is. If youre not much of a drinker have a friend who is willing to take one for the team

One of the worst bars I have been to. Staff are rude and unfriendly. Prices are a mystery and not listed on the menu, including this mandatory gratuity. Drinks were average at best. Stick to Deans bar next store for a nicer atmosphere, better drinks and friendly staff.

Staff all friendly and welcoming. Casual or dress to impress. Location great also, good food nearby. Parking sucks but bike friendly thanks again! Will be back soon, I want a sweatshirt next time!

Hands down the coolest bar in Houston! A total experience--- just when you think youve seen the entire bar, theres another room or whole other floor to see. Best described as half bar, half antique shop - with an art studio. And a igloo dance party. A lot going on here. Not sure if the decorating is on purpose or just remnants of the previous owners from long ago, but the eclectic at a minimum. Dont come here to drink, but rather explore.

This place was really cool with great vibes but when the bartender closed us out, she tipped herself over 20% and didn t give me an option other than to sign and leave an additional tip I had to reread the screen a couple times because I was shook that she just tipped herself. So just watch out.

I really loved this place! Such a cool vibe. Multiple levels and awesome bartenders. I asked for a ln aviation cocktail that she hadnt heard of before and mixed and matched ingredients to make a drink that was really good and really close to how it should be! I was super excited at their gin selection as most places dont have near as much as they do. Just an overall great experience being here. The only thing I will say is make sure you are prepared for drinks to be on the more expensive side.

Honestly this was my favorite bar in houston. I went last night with a group of 6 and half of us got drinks while the rest were taking a break from drinking. They wouldnt let the friends that didnt get drinks go upstairs with us unless they also got drinks? Im not sure what the big deal is. They also started adding a 20% tip automatically to all tabs but it doesnt indicate that on the handheld reader and it still asks for another tip. If youre not paying attention or didnt know they add the tip you may end up spending more. I also think automatically adding tips is a scummy practice since the tip should be based on the service received. I also dont think the cost rating is accurate, the drinks are pricey, especially with the extra 20% added on.
