Read the reviews on this place. I ve gone multiple times for Ole Miss watch parties and won t be back after mine and my boyfriend s last experience. Bartenders are known for overcharging and only giving one copy of the receipt for you to sign and adding extra tips to your tab. Manager won t do anything about it but be rude and condescending, making it seem like there s nothing he can do about you being charged $30 EXTRA dollars on an $18 tab. Don t go here, there s way better places to go in the Heights than an Austin themed bar in Houston.

Was overcharged for 2 drinks. Paid $18.44 for a happy dad and a ranch water. No problem with the $18.44 charge. It was the additional $30 charge that I have an issue with. The bartender did nothing about it. The manager did nothing to resolve the issue. All he did was show me a computer screen and negatively escalate the situation. Poor customer service. Might be the worst experience I ve had in 6 years of living in this city.

I was waiting in line with group of my friends and they turns us down because my brother was wearing a graphic T-shirt and they saw my neck tattoo along with my finger tattoos and said they can t let me in after waiting a while. Very discriminating against people with tattoos for sure !

They charged a $10 cover to my friends and a $20 cover to me since Im under 23 years old. They dont charge some girls for VIP. VIP is just upstairs space thats no different but they want $10 for it. Also a spray of cologne in the bathroom is $5. The DJ said if you have a lot of money on you scream! Just seriously nickel and diming plus age and gender discrimination is pretty lame. Bar has bad drinks that are expensive in plastic but thats standard. It is popular but somehow their egos made them think theyre a vegas club or something when theyre an average bar

It s a good place to drink and listen to music. The service is very good, even though it gets really busy with multiple customer. I m not sure about the food since I don t eat while I drink but after closing time the food trucks outside a really good.

I am very disappointed with my recent experience at this establishment. The guy in the black shirt and white hat was blatantly letting his friends in without any issues, but when it was our turn, he suddenly demanded a $10 cover fee. To make matters worse, the group in front of us didnt have to pay any fee either. It was clear that this guy couldnt get his act together. To add to the confusion, there are two entrances, and the first guy we approached told us the other line was free to enter. This inconsistency and unfair treatment are unacceptable.

Last bar-stop of the night. Arrived around 10. There was a small line already built-up at the door, but it wasnt a long wait, 10-15 min tops. There was a crowd, and most people were in there 20s, it felt like a collage party ambience. We got the $100 bottle table, which took care of a party of 16+ peeps. The vibe was energetic and electric. Had a really great time. The music, the feel, and the mood were all alive. We were living life and having a good Ole time. Recommend if you dont mind big crowds but it wasnt too congested to where I couldnt move.

Really terrible place. The Dj is average at best. People are drunk and falling over on the floor. Very sloppy place. Bouncers let people in with flip flops and shorts in but won t let someone with joggers in. A friend tried to join my party and because he had joggers on he tried to charge him $100. The door bouncers were obviously drunk. A very discriminative and selective establishment. Will not return. EVER.

If I could give a negative review I would. Door person wouldnt let me in due to a wrist tattoo that slightly goes on my hand. This is ironic for a place that calls their selves back yard. Why would you name your establishment backyard but acting as if ur a 5 star restaurant. Wake up buddy its 2024. Your not George Steinbrenner. Ok spot. Got price gouged on a bucket of beer. Charged me $40 and friends were paying $22, so purchased another bucket to confirm it wasn t a server error and a different bartender charged $40 again. I ve heard this is the same management team who once got in trouble in midtown a few years ago for similar reasons.

Make no mistake; Austin s Backyard ABSOLUTELY has discriminatory practices and makes no denial of it. I ve been a patron a few occasions, and not once did I ever have an issue gaining entry UNTIL the night I had black people with me. So let s play a game. Go to their social media pages. The DJs usually suck and the drinks aren t anything exciting late at night but the servers are SO NICE like above and beyond nothing i ve ever seen at a late night bar like this. Last nights visit to Austins Backyard, a club celebrated for its place in the heart of Houstons dynamic nightlife scene, promised an evening of joy and memorable encounters. Instead, what unfolded was a narrative starkly misaligned with the welcoming and vibrant ambiance Houstons bars and clubs are known for. The night turned into a disconcerting experience that necessitates a discussion on patron safety and respect within such entertainment venues. As I enjoyed the view from the second floor, an area that required an additional fee for its promised enhanced experience, my evening took an unexpected turn. Without any provocation, a security guard approached, insisting I leave immediately. Confused, I sought an explanation, asking multiple times for a reason, which was never provided. The encounter quickly escalated as the guard physically manhandled me, leaving marks on my arm from his grip, and forcefully escorted me out. This is Harassment !!!!!!!!!!!! This ordeal didnt end upon my exit. Outside, in front of Austins Backyard and other bars, police officers awaited, who, upon seeing me, began to confront me. Despite my repeated inquiries about the situation, they offered no explanations, only vague threats of arrest and commands to leave the area immediately. Its important to highlight that at no point was my behavior disruptive; I was neither intoxicated nor causing a disturbance. The entire incident from the unjust removal to the physical aggression and the threats by law enforcement paints a worrying picture of what could occur within the walls of Austins Backyard. The lack of communication, the unnecessary physical force, and the alarming approach by the police raise significant concerns about the treatment of patrons, questioning the safety and management practices of the establishment. This experience, a jarring deviation from the expected standards of respectful treatment and clear communication, compels me to caution others. Houstons Austins Backyard, despite its promise of a premium nightlife experience, sadly fails to deliver on the most basic expectations of dignity and safety for its guests. My narrative, while difficult to share, is essential for those planning to navigate Houstons nightlife, highlighting the urgent need for venues like Austins Backyard to reevaluate and improve their conduct and safety standards. By sharing my story, I hope not only to steer others away from potential negative experiences but also to initiate a broader conversation on the necessity for operational reforms within Houstons nightlife establishments. Seeing a line to get into this venue on a Saturday night I thought this was a place to be. Unfortunately the discrimination at the front to get in quickly changed my view. I was with a friend who had a neck tattoo, who was dressed smart yet the bouncer decided to say your neck tattoo won t let you in . For a venue to chose an aspect of a persons self to say no you don t fit what we want is pretty lousy in 2024. It s not cool. To the business owners: it s your venue, it s your choice, but if you want to make a stand on something on someone s body that they very well can t change then you are thinking in a backward way. If this is what your brand stands for then I m happy that we spent money on other venues where there was no thought given to a persons presence other than show me your ID . Support this sort of business if you will but I will not be back myself. Reconsider your stance.

Not my favorite 20th st bar but there is nothing I dislike about this bar. The weekend lines always look long so it s definitely a popular spot. It s a very different venue. Came here with some girlfriends this past Saturday and had a freaking blast! We got there around 9:30 because we re old and we were able to walk right in and grab a table. We stayed at that spot for the rest of the night. This place is huge and they have a ton of bar space. The servers were so nice and the bartenders were on point. The DJ played the best music I have heard in a bar in a very long time. The upstairs was spacious, plenty of tables and couches to lounge on. The only issue I had was that there were about eight bathroom stalls for the women and one was out of service. I m not sure about upstairs. One girl try to go in the men s since they didn t have a line, but the bathroom attendant refused to let her in so kudos to him lol Other than that 10 out of 10. We will be coming back!
