A friend suggested I try the fried catfish to go. I had a meeting to get to not far from the restaurant and did not thoroughly check my food. I opened the bag and immediately got excited because I thought I had sweet potato fries nope, they were burnt to crisp fries. The kind that when you bite into them, they turn into crumbs. They were all overcooked, so I could not enjoy my Frenchfries. So I basically paid $14 for one piece of catfish so disappointing.

Last week my son and I had the fish and chips and it was terrific. I ve been in Houston for about a year and three months and this is the best fish and chips that I have found. I am so happy that it is literally two minute drive from my house and I think on Thursday or Friday, is eight dollars. The fish pieces were huge and I would ve been just fine with one piece of fish. Excellent!

I could see the classic pub atmosphere being popular with a lot of people but this place isn t really my scene. It s a little bit too boozy for me (kind of has a soccer hooligan vibe). Parking is also not great, especially if they have tents and things set up for special events. Vegetarian options: I have a couple hardcore vegetarian friends who frequent this place, so there must be decent options Parking: There s a small, unshaded lot that can get pretty busy. Street parking is available but a bit of a hike. Kid-friendliness: I ve had a couple friends bring young children out of parents desperation to party

Food was awful. Fish and chips were mostly bread. Tasted like oil they used to ry hadnt been changed in months. Fries were also overcooked, like they were re-used/old fries that were fried again. Waitress definitely had an attitude. We had to step outside and she didnt even help us move the food to an outside table. She brought a few things and when we said thank you...50% of the time she just walked away. Pork chop also was super salty. We were told this was a family friendly place...definitely not. The inside was nice but outside was very dusty. Needs upkeeping

Plate good. Grilled chicken wasn t seasoned at all or mashed potatoes. No flavor whatsoever. Chicken quesadilla was cooked very dry and also not buttered or seasoned at all. Just chicken and cheese. Not sure what was going on in the kitchen I hate I tipped on the to go order.

Pretty chill spot- I heard there was food but I dont recall seeing any- it was a Saturday there was a game on there were fights on a lot of small groups of people- its a good spot for that- when your buddys wife has had enough to drink that she feels like she needs to go dance well guess what kids- numbers is right down the street and it never disappoints- there were no Montucky Cold Snacks but they have a huge Chair on the patio!

**A new editing: visited the Phoenix last Sunday, it was bad and disappointing . The burger and fish & chips were not fresh, to say the least. A Hidden Gem in the heart of Montrose I was thinking that Im about to meet an ordinary Pub, with an entire menu contains only fried food, including the beer itself. But found an amazing place, with a good restaurants kitchen. Fresh ingredients, great size of dishes, and good service.

The atmosphere is relaxed, welcoming, and doesnt have excessively loud music. There were people of all sorts here, but it seemed like a popular meet-up spot for friends and business. The owner was friendly and regularly hopped between tables to check on friends and other patrons. The food is good. They have some sort of cauliflower nuggets, which taste great and give vegitarians something to eat. The wings are flavored well, too. Service is always great, food quality has went down in the past few years. Specials are well priced. Chicken fried chicken used to be a favorite of my son and I. In the past it was juicy, crispy and well seasoned inside. Past few times weve went its been dry, tough, and really oily breading. Doesnt taste nearly as good. Get the chicken pub pie you will not be disappointed!! The veggies were perfectly cooked and not mushy like most pot pies are. The portions you get for the price are fantastic as well. Not sure what kind of sorcery is going on in the kitchen but this place this the definition of don t judge a book by its cover. Dear owner, I dont know you, but I hope this helps you. Dear prospective diner, Dont come here for food! The fish and chips are disgusting (dispite the picture on the Google page). Taking a bite of the fish was like taking a bite into a loaf of bread, then you finally get to the buried fish and it taste like dried out nothingness and all your left with is greasy fingers. Gross. The burger was raw in the middle and the nachos were just sad. The saddest plate of nachos Ive ever had. Chips tasted stale and the cheese was cold. How do you mess up nachos? I threw 90% of the food away and had to consume a Coke to prevent myself from throwing up. The best tasting item I had was the tartar sauce.

Came by on Monday to watch the Astro s and had their daily special of grilled chicken breast with cilantro rice and snow peas. The chicken was moist a d deliciously seasoned, rice paired perfectly and the snow peas were fresh, not over cooked and seasoned perfectly. All this for $8.00 and the portion was big. The food is great. The waitress/service not that great. The owner or manager is a jerk. One time I ate there and apparently the employee didnt do something right when charging my card and it took out the payment from my card but the owner or manager said it didnt go through but yet it deducted from my account, I was looking at my account on my phone but he was like no it didnt go through and once a payment gets deducted from my account you have to wait up to a week or more for it to be returned so I didnt have enough in my account to pay twice so luckily I had enough cash to pay it again. He didnt even try to make up for his employees mistake. Awful experience. The service on several occasions hasnt been that great either, they dont come check if you need anything or more drink often enough and even when its not that busy in there. But the food is great.

Cant say enough good things about the Phoenix! The food is outstanding, my favorite is the jalapeno chicken and Karrage appetizer. Pua and lose to an outstanding job of service and the owner, Vu, is always walking around checking on everything and everyone. Its a good spot to bring your pet as well, and they have dog friendly events on the weekends. Highly recommend!

I ve been eating here twice a day for the past week since my car will be in the shop for about a month. I m also fostering a teeny tiny puppy for a bottom of the week and have brought him in every single time I go in and the bartenders have all been so nice and it s never a problem. I go in and I pay for my food and I leave, it s not like I hang out there or let the puppy even touch the ground. Tonight when I went in the bartender told me that I couldn t bring a dog in, which is fine I get it, but he wouldn t stop lecturing me about it, which is what really annoyed me and he actually made me lose my appetite. I don t care about his rules or someone else s rules and regulations, you can just tell me once that I can t bring the puppy in. From now on when I order my food ahead, I will tell them they can bring it outside to me because I m not going to leave the puppy at home when I have to walk him anyways. This guy is so rude.

Our waitress was helpful & the food was just okay . The fish & chips was overly breaded, which was not appetizing at all. The atmosphere was not worthy of the cost of the food. Kids (they seemed to be siblings or children to an employee) were running around the entire time. There was a customer at the bar, an older gentleman, taking photos of the small children and of others inside the restaurant. The waitress told him she was camera shy & he continued to take pictures, while he ate. It was odd. At one point my son was concerned the gentleman was taking pictures of his girlfriend, so we decided it best to leave. But couldn t get our waitress, because she was also working the bar. I do understand that maybe they were short on staff, so it didn t stop me from tipping her. Overall, not a great experience.

This is a great place to come for a pure drinks at the bar with sports experience. As for the food... ehhh, I would avoid anything other than the wings. The tots tasted like the oil was really old, the blue cheese dressing for the wings was sour, the nachos had plenty of toppings but the chips were too thin to hold any of it and were damp/limp after a few minutes at the table. The bread pudding was good, actually. I didnt like the self-service app to order; I dont go to restaurants to do serve myself. The food runners were quick, so if thats more important, okay. I didnt feel like a tip was called for, although I reluctantly did a small one. I dont tip the person behind the counter at McDonalds who brings it to the register... it felt like the same concept, because there was about the same human interaction. Oh, as a kicker: I was at table 45 under the Korean flag and a cockroach fell onto my shoulder from somewhere, about 2-2.5 in long. It was kinda slow when i discovered the pheonix, but the bartender was super friendly and attentive and even introduced me to some other patrons! That made it more fun since i stopped in alone. Ill definitely be back

This is the definition of SPORTS BAR! They have every game on the screen and it makes viewing quite simple and make sure to check out thier specials everyday. I went on Wednesday and they have $8 chicken fried chicken and it was great!! Plus, $4 Stella was a win win this place is relaxing and great for any type of gathering. Go try it out!
