About the Company
rating: 4.4
The mission of Art League Houston is to connect the community through diverse, dynamic, and creative experiences that bring people together to see, make, and talk about contemporary visual art. Founded in 1948, Art League Houston has radically evolved beyond the parameters of traditional art leagues. While keeping the core of the art league model – a robust membership deeply committed to the value of visual art in contemporary life – Art League Houston embraces contemporary approaches to curatorial programming, community-building, art education, and outreach to under resourced communities.

I took one class there. It is a nice facility. The price is not unreasonable. The supply list was expensive, but it turned out it had not been updated, thus I did not need all the supplies. The art supply store took back alot of it. I did not learn anything. The instructor is a talented artist but not necessarily a good teacher. He had no discernable learning objectives which resulted in him painting while we watched. Then he came around and gave a few comments.

ALH is a gem in this city. Their class offerings are diverse, interesting, and well-priced. The studios are sunny and spacious. They also do great programming and events with local artists. An amazing organization that supports Texas art in many different ways.

ALH goals, performance and activities variety are outstanding. Today I want to comment about the Drawing with Charcoal course I took the Fall 2022 term. The instructor, A. Castellan, balanced nicely theory and practice and, engaged with the participants making the classes and homework interesting and didactic. Highly recommend this course.

Nice spot, would give 5 stars if only they stayed open late. They close at 1700 hours (5:00pm) as of 8/25/16. SMH...
