I had a consultation with Attorney Hector Cortes regarding a family law matter over a zoom call. Mr. Cortes was kind, professional, thorough, and patient with me as he answered my questions. He explained different realistic scenarios relevant to my particular situation and broke down the details on what to expect from those scenarios. I was a little anxious to do the initial consult via zoom, as this was my first time speaking with him and not knowing what to expect for the overall process. Terrible experience and a waste of $12,000 (especially being a single mother barely surviving on food stamps). The lack of communication between lawyers wasted my time for 9 months. They kept refiling papers to the court wasting thousands of dollars. I ended up having to report the incident to the TX State Bar (even though the board did not rule in my favor, the horrendous services needed to be documented just in case it happens to anyone else). Additionally, the lawyer, Cherrell, has only practiced family law for a short period of time and I almost took a horrendous settlement from my ex due to her pure ignorance in this area of law. If you are a single mother and experienced abuse in a prior relationship, PLEASE RUN (DONT WALK) TO LOVORN LAW FIRM. They didnt give me false promises like Laura Heard did at my first consultation that my ex would pay all of my attorneys fees. Laura also doubled my retainer from $4,000 to $8000 (from when I was 9 months pregnant to obtaining services 6 weeks after delivery of my daughter) and doubled billed me numerous times. And when Cherrell went for maternity leave, Aisha (the lawyer covering the case during Cherrells maternity leave) did not even once touch base with me. The receptionist kept stating it was opposing counsels fault for not replying. Low and behold my new lawyer provided me all of the documentation that opposing counsel was in fact trying to get ahold of my lawyer through all of Cherrells maternity leave. If you are a vulnerable woman, this lawfirm WILL NOT stand up for you. No compassion for the emotional or physical abuse my child and myself suffered during the relationship. LOVORN LAWFIRM has lawyers equipped with trauma informed care and actually care about your experiences and what is best for the child (especially when considering what is best for an infant)! I rarely write bad reviews but this was one of the worst experiences I had in my life since I basically struggle to afford basic necessities and never received a penny in child support, but this firm had no qualms about wasting my money knowing my financial standing. Personally, I do not find anyone working here ethical. However, I could tell any time I spoke to the receptionist that something was going on. Her intentional voice intonations gave it away, and shes probably the only ounce of ethical care at this lawfirm.

I had scheduled a consultation and paid the 200.00 hoping that a paid consultation would provide a better level of service than a free one. The front office staff, reminder, set up, and payment process all were smooth and thus why I didnt give a 1 star. The attorney consultation with Aisha Leftwich is where I ran into issues. Before I began explaining my case I explained to the attorney that this was a difficult conversation for me and involved past trauma and a complex history. When trying to understand the different options available to me in court and what type of proof would be necessary I asked clarifying questions to the attorney who seemed to be getting lost in my case. I explained to her that I didnt feel she was listening with compassion and that the conversation was difficult for me to repeat over and over. She appeared to get annoyed as evidenced by her tone, her responses to some very intimate things I confided in her and became extremely dissmissive. She then told me that I was aggressive and she didnt understand why I was upset after I had clearly communicated to her that I felt she was lacking compassion in her ability to communicate with clients who have experienced trauma. For my own privacy I wont get detailed on the things she said to me, but if you have a traumatic background I do not recommend attorney Aisha Aziz Hernandez Leftwich. Maybe there are better more compassionate attorneys in the firm, but I ended up hanging up only 12 minutes into my 1 hour paid consultation. She even at one point could not answer a question and said thats a good question, Im not sure. The senior attorney is not here for me to ask. I can appreciate someone who looks for guidance, so it would have been nice if she actually listened when I told her I was not comfortable with how she was addressing my concerns. Even your response to this review is exaggerated and dishonest. Furthering the reasons why people should stay clear of this firm.

(FIRST EDIT) If this is your reasoning for a dissatisfied review of your business, there is an obvious reason for a one-star review. Your Firm s first response (prior to your editing) was to blame the other party (me): there must be some mistake, you say. Now the claim is (to paraphrase) because we did a good job, you re unhappy. Your logic is flawed. Correlation does not mean causation. Correlation can be caused by coincidence. This is no coincidence. Ethics, morality, and compassion are for all, not to be reserved for a select few who have paid your Firm s retainers and fees. Yes, your research is correct. It did not take very much effort to find out I am on the opposing side of one of your cases. However, the way in which your Firm conducted itself is beyond reproach. When an individual (myself) is pro se (for whatever reason), that individual and their situation is not to be taken advantage of to win cases. This is the root cause of the unethical and immoral statements in my review, not simply because I am on the opposing side. You continue to respond in order to return the blame to the reviewer, not the business. If you would like to speak with me concerning my discontent, feel free to contact me. (SECOND EDIT 11.29.2022) I have not yet received direct contact concerning this review; only a generic response in the form of a review response the review response in which I was blamed for the problem because I was dissatisfied with the outcome of a divorce settlement, mediated by an individual chosen by the Firm and its legal representation, not to mention a change in judge in order to receive the decision in favor of the Firm. A complaint was filed by the Firm, shortly after my initial divorce decree was signed (which I submitted for final action in 2/2020) to outline the Firm s dissatisfaction of an associate judge signing the final decree. Once a judge was assigned that would favor the Firm, my case was overturned, my divorce was annulled, and my marriage was reinstated and is now being kept in place by a 3-year Interlocutory Order, which are typically only meant to be kept in place for 3-6 months until the final order can be drafted and signed (it has not been drafted by the Firm, but has been by me). The final divorce decree (order) will not be signed until June 2023, as this is when the Firm recommended to the other party it should be finalized for maximum benefit to their client in order to receive maximum financial payout for utilization of my Veteran Administration Chapter 31 and Dependent s Educational Assistance program because I am a 100% disabled Veteran, therefore, in the state of Texas, my children and other dependents receive the same benefits as do I. In order for their client to not lose these benefits, I was forced to agree to remain married for 36 months post-mediation in May 2020. Their client s reasoning was changed from educational benefits (which seems callous and shallow) to healthcare benefits, to make me seem as if I were pulling healthcare from a hapless individual. However, once I explained their client is a 20/20/20 spouse (which the Firm could not intelligently discuss the meaning behind this), and I provided the proper military and veteran instructions, the reasoning was changed back to educational benefits. I was recommended the law firm by a member of online ads and I spoke with them over the phone. They were very friendly and honestly seem like they want to help. However I feel very let down when I paid $200 for a consultation and they essentially gave my wife information on the process of adoption that can be googled. If Im paying money for a service, I expect to get something that I cant get for free on the internet.
