It would have been easy to drive right past this restaurant but because I checked google maps I saw it had high reviews and decided to check it out. I couldn t be happier that I did. Very cool place, easy to order and incredible food. Being from Kansas City I have high expectations for BBQ. This was the best brisket I have ever had. Must go place.

This place rivals some of the BEST places Ive had in the Central Texas area. Its THAT good. My only regret is that I hadnt tried them sooner. If youre looking for authentic Texas BBQ in the RGV this is definitely your place. The brisket was SUPER moist as was the turkey. The BBQ sauce also has a nice flavor. Their Jalapeno Sausage was good but only minor critique would be I wish the Jalapeno was more noticeable. Otherwise it was some of the best BBQ Ive had in a while. Before I left one of the employees gave me some fresh chocolate chip cookies to try which I thought was SUPER COOL. They also have Oatmeal Raisin for people who prefer those.

Really cool atmosphere for a BBQ restaurant. Its located in an old bread factory. Ordered the beef short ribs, a jalapeño sausage link, and potato salad. Best thing by far was the short ribs. Super tender and moist with a great bark!! Sausage and potato salad was just ok. One cool thing to mention, they came around with a tray of fresh baked cookies.

I had to edit my post today from five years ago I ranked this place as the best place in Cameron County to eat barbecue. Today I Rank it 2 stars has Fallen from a 5 star. The mac & cheese used to be so cheesy delicious, today is dry and tasteless. The pork ribs were so tough. I thought I was a break a bracket on my braces. Pork Ribs were tough and 2 med. Size Ribs costed $13.$$ Asked for one jalapeño pepper after spending $35.$$ lunch just 2 people You have to pay for jalapeño

Asked for the moist part, it was mostly fat, which gave me very little meat. The Mac n cheese portion was very small (came in a 6-8oz cup). The tea has a chemical taste to it, Im guessing from soaking the spout in the sanitizing solution when washing the dishes. HORRIBLE experience, never again, Ill try Backyard BBQ next.

Had brisket and jalapeño sausage for dinner on a Tuesday evening; it was pretty slow when I got there, but everyone was super-friendly and appreciative. The brisket was very tender & moist, and thick-cut. The sausage was OK, kinda dry. My sides were delicious (the potato salad was chunky, and the charro beans had bits of pulled pork in them), and the banana pudding was SO yummy!! I had to order my beer separately (the bar is set away from the food area). I did not like that I was given a pre-cut portion of pickles and onions (placed in little sealed bags) and a pill cup filled with BBQ sauce: every BBQ place I ve ever been has self-serve pickles, onions, and sauces. The location is cavernous, and when not busy, it seems more empty. The bar offers some local draft options, including 5x5 (The Vaquero, named for the UTRGV mascot, is a wonderful blood orange wheat beer!). Overall, a good experience. I m not sure if there is any extra cost to asking for more pickles/onions & sauce. Parking: Parking lot is smaller, lots of holes and bumps

Excellent service and food. We had a family member with an allergy and Gretchen was so kind to assist us on what to order. The green beans were delicious as was the tender brisket and creamy mac and cheese. We also enjoyed the turkey and sausage. What a sweet treat when the sweet cookie lady came around and offered us a choice of fresh baked cookies!! Weve eaten bbq all over Texas and this one was delicious!!

Lets start out with this place is good. Very good infact. But lets also discuss it is Houston priced bbq. Its an old warehouse, looks awesome. Well decorated, has a bar in the middle and a counter with the friendliest folks. Ordered ribs and moist brisket and one side. 37 dollars before tip. Thirty seven dollars. Ill always pay for good food, so you wont be disappointed but man ... oh and pickles and onion are free but should you want jalapenos theyre 1.50. Which is just ridiculous. So the ribs were sauced, and had a nice bite without just completely falling off the bone. Just how I like them. The brisket crust was super salty but its a rub, I get it. Still good, moist, and just melted in your mouth. The potato salad was very nondescript and could have easily been forgotten. Wasnt good. Wasnt bad. Just there. Now when youre done you leave your tray at your table. I didnt know and turned it in, I wont be accused of being a lazy bones. Anyway, if you want good BBQ, and arent afraid to pay for it, then this is your place.

The mac&cheese is divine! We added some pulled pork to it, and it intensified its delicious richness. The sausage link is nicely seasoned and cooked to perfection. The brisket sandwich is served in a healthy portion with a nice dark bark cooked in a beautiful blend of spices. The iced tea is smooth and refreshing. The service was fast and very friendly. I will definitely come back and bring the family too.

One of very few good BBQ spots in lower valley. I had the Mac n Cheese and it was good.. Meat is of good quality, well proportioned, well-seasoned and well cooked. Update: You have to go early because good luck if you go after 6pm. Most of the food I had wanted was out. Bartender was quick but I noticed shed put more ice in my drinks as I ordered more from her. My drink was more ice than liquid and was not how she made the 1st 3. Very inconsistent and drink was for my friend also, not just me if she was trying to slow me down. One cashier was super nice and patient but unfortunately I got the other one. She just plopped the meat on the plate and had a grumpy look and rude tone. Smaller stature and i think she had glasses. Didnt ger her name but she had a bad customer service skills. I understand its the end of the day but really? Food is still great. Id come back, just earlier and prefer a different bartender. Service seems inconsistent but we all have our off days.

The food was mediocre. We were expecting more given the reviews. For the price also, youd think it would be a lot better. There are better places in the area that arent as expensive. The staff were amiable, very professional. Two of us in the group (my dad and I) ordered potato salad at different sizes - my dads was the larger size and mine the smaller. He kept complaining about how it had no flavor, but I thought it was good. So we swapped, and his definitely had no flavor but he liked mine. It seems like something went wrong with a batch of potato salad, and their quality control between batches was lacking. The staff were great and replaced his potato salad with ones from the better batch (different size). The charro beans were slightly undercooked - the bean itself was a bit harder than it should be. The liquid portion of the beans was very flavorful, but since the beans didnt cook for long enough, the flavor didnt make it into the bean itself. For the restaurants price point, the food should be better. Overall, Id say our experience was just okay.

So I have decided to edit my review after eating here a second time and after eating at a couple of Texas Monthly s Top 10 BBQ in the state. I I have to say is Texas Monthly has got it WRONG!!! This place is Legit and should be on the top 50 notable mentions. This time I tried the Brisket Half and Half, Pulled Pork and Jalapeño Sausage and I truly believe this place is better than the No. 1 and No. 5. If you don t try this place you are missing out Texas Monthly you need to make the drive to Smoke in Harlingen. The Charrobeans Rock to!!! After my brother s funeral we decided to go out to eat and celebrate the life of my brother that passed away. There must of been over 30 family members and we moved a small table so that we could take a group picture and the owners mother came up to us and told us we were not allowed to move tables in the restaurant. We were in a corner away from customers and they were not even busy. I explained to her that we were celebrating and wanted to take a picture and would move the table back but she continued to be rude to us and that it was not acceptable to move a small four chair table. We were appalled at her rudeness and we will never step foot in a restaurant with such rudeness and terrible customer service and besides we couldn t even finish our food because the bbq was so salty that it wasn t even in good taste. Customer service is very important and for someone to treat customers in this matter is un except-able.

Trying to support small business. Sharing my feedback as I didn t see these things mentioned in other reviews. Prices are a steep and they charge extra for things that are free at the other bbq place. . Up charge to toast the bread & up charge for jalapeños. Bread is regular loaf, not Texas toast. $20 for a little over half a pound of brisket. Potato salad was heavy on mayonnaise. Brisket was tender and hit the spot as we were hungry but a tad bit salty for my liking.. Hours are from 11am until sold out so be aware of timing you come. Cashier Naomi was friendly and helpful as she explained the menu to us.

Love BBQ so had to visit this hidden gem. I have driven by this street for years going to my VA appointments and never saw it before. The building is like the old buildings of other BBQ joints in Lockhart. This is was what drew us in. What kept us in our seats was the food. The brisket was moist and tender with a great smoked flavor. The rib was just as good and fell apart. My wife has been on a pulled pork kick now and she gave it two thumbs up. I also enjoyed their lemonade and sweet tea. Made myself an Arnold Palmer. It was worth the 30 minute drive and will now be one of our BBQ favorites.

I recently visited Smoke: Texas BBQ and Watering Hole and had an incredible dining experience. The brisket served here was absolutely mouthwatering and cooked to perfection. It was moist, tender, and bursting with smoky flavors. I couldn t get enough of it! Not only was the food outstanding, but the customer service was also top-notch. The staff members were attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to ensure our satisfaction. They were knowledgeable about the menu and provided excellent recommendations. It s evident that they genuinely care about their customers experience. I do understand that we were their last customers of the day, and although the staff might have been a little frustrated, they didn t let it affect the quality of their service or the food. They maintained their professionalism and made sure we had a great dining experience. My husband and I went on 6/23/2023 evening, FOOD WAS GREAT! BAR AREA WAS AWESOME. When we got there, went to the ordering area and the young lady that was there seemed annoyed at us even being there. Almost as if she didnt want to take the order, we got our food and sat at the bar, which we loved to be honest. The atmosphere is really nice almost as if you are someplace up in texas. While at the bar we noticed and discovered why the young lady that attendant us was bothered, There was another young girl with reddish hair that was helping our bartender for a brief moment, which annoyed the girl we got. So much that when she went back to the order area, the girl got after her (red hair girl). Which was uncalled for. The red hair girl seemed so welcoming and happy, naturally pleasant, I think having had her this experience would have been perfect. Clearly this young lady we got was in a bad mood, because from the bar you could clearly see how annoyed she was while taking other peoples order, all the while the red head girl was so nice. Overall I dont wish to give a review less of 5 stars over one sour apple in the bunch. Our bartender was also very nice and pleasant, it was just that one girl. Ive been here before and gave it a great review. Today was disappointing. I may have gone too early, my short rib had to be from Thursday, it was like beef jerky around the edges. Brisket looked nice on other plates. Mac and cheese and beans were good but bbq was sad. Ill be back though, I went back May of 23, had pork ribs and a beef short rib. Wow, they were both great.

The service is friendly and I really actually dont like to do reviews whether good or bad. However, I think this brisket is actually pretty bad. What was served to me had a bunch of fatty pieces that are basically inedible. Even after removing those fatty pieces the meat is super super greasy that after eating a small portion I became sick. Im not sure how this place has such a high rating, people must not know what good brisket is. I grew up around bbq and smoking meats (uncle had a bbq place in SA) so I know what good brisket is and this is not it.

Nice place. Came recommend. We had the pork ribs and sausage sandwiches. Food was mostly tastey. Ribs seasoned well & sausages tasted like sausages. My only gripe, they ran out of what I really wanted, Brisket and Turkey, and the sides (Mac & Cheese and potato salad are really SMALL.. In town for business and in the mood for some good bbq. Originally came because I heard that they had those dino beef ribs, so I was a bit disappointed to find out they are onky served on weekends. Being the trooper that I am, i decided to forge ahead and try they brisket and short beef ribs. To me, you can always spot the tastiest bbq by the amount of sauce needed, and while the seasoning was ok, i definitely needed sauce. I was served cold food. I went up to let the young lady know. She and the guy behind her cutting up the meat said it was in the warmers and shouldnt be cold. The meat was cold. My Mac and cheese was cold, beans were cold. I asked for a box to go and was told to get an aluminum foil from end of counter. No attempts to make things right. Had to adjust my rating from a year ago I hate to not give them a 5 star but it was a bad experience. Took my food home and warmed it up there.

Our party of 4 arrived 20 minutes before they closed (sorry) and they still gave us service with a smile. Everything was absolutely amazing! Their brisket is #1 in my opinion. So flavorful! We got a rib, brisket (lean and juicy), and turkey with sides of macaroni and cheese. Not a single complaint. Perfect end to our night, thank you!
