Took a couple extra days after a business trip to explore around the hotel and the city of Dallas. We found this place on Google maps, I didnt even look at the reviews, it just felt authentic. Tollberts did not disappoint. My wife said the chili was the best shes ever had, restaurant or homemade. We also ordered the jalapeno corn bread muffins and they were an absolute delight. There seems to be live music every night and the band that night was really good. Great atmosphere, out of this world service and overall a real gem of a place!! Definitely plan to bring a group with me next time we are in the area for work.

Went to see Dead Thing on a Sunday afternoon. What a beautiful old town in Texas. Tolberts have been around a long time featuring great food and awesome concerts. We did have the Paris Catfish, which was nicely fried and delicious. The portion is 2 nice size pieces of catfish with hushpuppies and 2 sides. If youre going to see a band, call asap and reserve a table, and the tables go quickly that are close to the stage. I did visit the ladies room, which was a nice size and very clean. Parking is across the building but is open to all the downtown activities.

Awesome first time at Tolberts! Food was excellent and the vibe was great. We started with fried pickles that were perfectly crispy. For entrees we had a Terlingua burger (chili cheese burger) that was perfectly cooked and served with crispy fried and 3 large hand breaded onion rings. Nothing frozen out of a bag here! We also had chicken fried steak strip that were so tender you could cut them with a fork. That was also served with fries and gravy. Finally a bowl of the famous Tolbert s chili. Excellent! Drinks and cocktails were very good and reasonably priced. What really impressed me was the SERVICE! Even though the place was completely packed for an afternoon concert the staff was calm and super efficient. Everyone was happy and gracious. Special kudos to our server, Caroline. I couldn t even count how many tables she was serving but never got flustered and our order was exactly correct as we ordered it and she never lost her smile. Definitely will be going back to try more great food.

Two of the four meals ordered were acceptable, one was barely acceptable, and mine was terrible. Ordered an 8 oz ribeye medium and a baked potato, the ribeye was maybe a quarter of an inch thick, well done and way over-salted. The baked potato looked like it was at least two days old. I should have complained loudly because my kids should not have had to pay for that meal. We were there to celebrate my birthday and it was very disappointing.

The food and drinks were good. The place claimed not to do reservations, yet most of the seating close enough to the stage to see were reserved. We waited in line for seating. We were offered seats. I accepted the offer and they said wait while we clean them. While waiting a recognized couple showed up and were immediately seated at the table Id been offered. The had the greatness that is Texas Flood on stage and the sound there was pretty good. The music made everything better.

Soooo much loved this place! Perfect for my solo dining experiences while traveling to new places I entered quite last on a Tuesdtnight attracted by the special burger of the day that was written on the outside board. Once in, I asked some questions to understand if it was a good option for me. The waiter (Cole if I remember correctly?) first tried to understand my taste and then gently suggested a couple of options that he believed would have satisfied my desire. And got it right! The burger was super tasty, sumptuous. And it felt as Texan as I could have imagined. The fries on the side were also super tasty and very well cooked. After the first beer I wanted to try something different. He offered to bring me 3 samples to choose the right one. I loved that in both cases the waiter served me the food saying a warm welcome to Texas. He also spent time talking with me at the end. I appreciated that he dedicated equivalent time to 2 kids in the restaurant that seemed to adore him. I didnt have any space left for dessert or I would have certainly ordered one. The interior of the place was very nice. Welcoming & comforting. The band was at their second night on that stage and was quite decent, certainly engaging and seemed to have a lot of fun. Nice surprise at the end: an incredibly cheap bill compared to any other place I have been recently in Dallas or another large city like New Orleans. I recommended the place to all of my colleagues!

I had a plan, after my convention in the beautiful Gaylord Hotel, to stop in Dr. Sues Chocolates for some treats and then Tolberts for chili since its 2 doors down. A local pointed me in another direction, but that day was pouring cats and dogs so Tolberts I went. I was expecting a tiny place, but its big. I expected a simple homey small town diner, but it sells merchandise and has a full bar. The host was matter of fact, but when we got to our table, he said hell be back with another set of utensils and patted me on the back. That made me smile. Ive been living in Houston area for so long, I had forgotten about that simple friendliness. The waitress didnt smile from ear to ear, which was refreshing, and she was amazing. She answered our questions and brought us whatever we needed without any kind of hesitation. She gave us samples of the original and verde chilis to try. She was attentive without overbearing like they sometimes can in the big cities. I ended up ordering the original chili without cheese and a basket of jalapeño cornbread muffins. Both really hit the spot and warmed me up. The portions were hearty. I probably should really have eaten only half but finished off the whole bowl plus 2 muffins. Her service, the ambiance of the place, and the home-cooking style food left me feeling relaxed and happy after an intense 3 days. Vegetarian options: They can customize. The mashed potato comes with cheese and bacon on top, you can ask for no bacon or cheese or both. The jalapeño cornbread muffins are vegetarian. There are salads and other vegetarian items on the menu including a vegetarian chili. Parking: All around town Kid-friendliness: Big place with plenty of room to roam and relax

Update to my review, 17 July 2024: Went back to Tolberts yesterday afternoon (17 July 24) after a very first class a d gracious response from owner/management. Our experience this time was by far the kind of attention, service, friendliness and awesome food we had always experienced before. Kim the bartender was amazing! Not just for us, but for every customer at the bar! Prompt ,courteous, professional, friendly...she was the very example of excellence in everything she did. Way to go Kim! The food was perfect! A great BLT AND CHEDDAR SLIDERS PLATE! The fries were crispy and seasoned just right. The cup of chili wasnt bad, but the cornbread really enhances it greatly! The serving staff was courteous and prompt. And the music playing (not live) was just perfect to enhance the lunchtime experience immensely. A great atmosphere, service, food... everything was fantastic! Tolberts is a stand out among similar Maun Street eateries and we will definitely continue our patronage there! Thanks again and well done! (The above is an update to the below review) Been to Tolberts multiple times and never had the issues experienced yesterday afternoon. Perhaps it was a one-off and benefit of the doubt is being given in that regard. Went in a bit after 1PM, 28 June 2024. The restaurant was not very busy, the lunch rush was over. Took two seats at the bar. Less than a handful of others were at the bar. The bartender took very good initial care of us, takin our drink orders promptly. She was very upbeat and friendly. After about 40 min of conversation, we decided to order some food. We went to tolberts for their BLT sandwich and one of their awesome burgers. After about 15 minutes of attempting to get the bartenders attention, I finally had to specifically ask for some menus since wed been shown no attention in the interim. another After ten minutes of perusing the menu, had made up our minds to order. We tried multiple times to get the attention of the bartender to order, but were simply ignored on those attempts as we had been for too much time given the light customer load. The situation could have been chalked up to simple distraction had the regulars at the bar not only received amazing service, but also ordered and received food. We were simply ignored. We decided at that point, after having been at the bar for two hours and receiving such poor service, to pay out our tab and leave. As stated earlier, this was a first for us and hopefully a one off situation. However such poor service merits review.

This makes the second time in two weeks that I have waited over 10 minutes to get seated. The first time I was finally seated but was never waited on. Today I waited 10 minutes and was never seated. I have eaten there numerous times and have enjoyed their job but three times will not be the charm. I m sorry for the downfall of management not to hire enough staff to make sure this does not happen to anyone else. I will not be back. There are too many great restaurants in this area to be disappointed.

Used to really like this place, but now they have bands every day of the week. We went on a Sunday afternoon, and the band had the music so loud you couldnt carry on a conversation!! To top it off, they couldnt carry a tune in a bucket as someone said! Went back on a weeknight and same thing. Different band, obnoxiously loud, had to yell back and forth with waiter AND again this band was even worse!! Stop trying to make it a dive bar band audition place, and get back to doing what you do best. Food, service and atmosphere where people can visit and not want to leave as quickly as possible to get away from the irritating loud noise!!!

Lets start this review in the order of occurrences. I was very excited to have this new opportunity to try new food in grapevine. Upon arriving at this location wish I could say we were promptly seated, but thats not the case. When finally greeted wasnt with the kindest welcome from the hostess. She was very unwelcoming and rolled her eyes when replied where we would like to sit. Fast forward thru 20 minutes of awkwardly waiting our order was finally taken. We ordered chips and tomato paste wait I meant supposedly chips and salsa. After another 20 min the appetizer finally came out. At this point we already placed our entree order, only to have the waitress come back and ask if we were now ready to order, indicating our order was never put in to the kitchen causing us to wait 30 more minutes. At this point the circumstances didnt justify in my opinion to leave a bad review but, then the food came out.... even with the previous list of things that happened I was still optimistic about the food but Boy was I wrong. It was cold flavorless it would make more sense if they called it tolberts cardboard Factory.I have nothing to gain from this review the only thing I gain is saving potential patrons time, money and effort driving to this ridiculous establishment.

Had the best fried chicken sandwich of my entire life here. Maybe I was more hungry than usual, or perhaps I came with low expectations to a touristy area for a Tuesday lunch. Maybe I was still riding the high from the eclipse earlier in the week. But the chicken was perfect, the bun was just right, and it served with a side of gravy for the sandwich (yes, put it on the sandwich!). Fries were top-notch as well. Plenty of good beers on tap. My wife had one of the salads, but I cant recall which one because I had to protect my fries the whole time. Its been 2 weeks and Im still thinking of that fried chicken sandwich. I dont come to Dallas much, but when I do, I will be back to see if this experience can be repeated.

I wanted to try some Texas chili. This was a real treat. I got the Frito pie. It was really good. A slight amount of spice (I couldve used a little more- even though I ate the serrano pepper they served as garnish). We also got the chicken nachos, donkey tails, and fish and chips. I would definitely suggest the chili. The donkey tails to go with the queso was pretty tasty as well. The fish and chips was a real stand out. The breading was very crispy and delicate. It was not overly greasy. The best I have ever had was in Hong Kong- those British folks taught them well. If youre not feeling like chili, try the fish and chips. You will not be disappointed. The beers were cold and the service was prompt and didnt let me sit with an empty beer for more than a few seconds.

I ordered the original Texas bowl of red. It was over seasoned for my taste. I prefer the taste of the ones out of the canned chili. Parking: Public lot next to restaurant

Very nice place to visit. Great food, and the staff were very curtious, attentive, and did a great job. Didnt get a pic of food, but everything we had was tasty. Visited on a Sunday evening, and they had a musician playing. Great atmosphere.

Got fried shrimp, and it was pretty good. We also got the fish, and it was ok this time (but a bit greasy, like the cooking oil was old), but it was good the last time. (Sorry, I worked at a restaurant in my youth, and I had a memory of that !) As with a lot of small places, you sometimes get a really good meal one time, and the next time, it is not guaranteed even when ordering the same thing. The place, however, has always been consistent on being a great Grapevine hangout. Ive been there many times and will go back.

This is one of the places on my list to visit whenever I m in the area. The food is excellent - I have to get a bowl of red chili when I go. The hot dogs are great too! There s a good variety of items on the menu - haven t found anything bad yet. The atmosphere is great, the old building adds to the charm, and they have live music some nights. The servers and staff are friendly and extremely helpful. Stop by and try this place if you haven t been yet!

My husband and I took our daughter for her birthday on 2/21 for some good food and a good band,we definitely got both. First time for us eating at Tolberts and we know without a doubt we will be back and already planning on sharing this great place with family. I want to thank Cole for always being there when we needed something. Thank you Cole for the delicious piece of cake our daughter received. Looking forward to our next visit, thanks for a great night!

Good place for beer and good service, but the food was bland. The flour tortillas for my enchiladas were old & the spnish rice was overcooked. My wifes chicken fried steak tasted like a frozen dinner. Perhaps the Grapefest interfered with quality. The chairs had no cushions. It might be a good place for sports or live bands at 9 pm, or a dessert. Otherwise, there are better options.

We loved this place. We were staying at Great Wolf lodge where food was not worth the price. So we ventured out. The entire family was pleased, they could not stop talking about the chicken tenders, how good they were. Even the kidos which hard to please. We have a variety of food and all of it was fantastic. I had the chili and it was really good. Our server was training someone, both ladies were great. We ate at two other places on main this trip and both were really, really bad. Glad this place was so good, restored our faith that you can get a good meal in Grapevine!!

On vacation here and looking for local restaurants. Loved the service, food and atmosphere. The food was very tasty, had the Lajitas chicken with steamed broccoli and side salad, husband had rib eye steak with sweet potato fries. It was very delicious and enjoyed it so much. Brandon was our attentive server who took care of us and a party of about 20 people. This is our type of restaurant and happy to have found it.

Tolberts is great! The area is located right next to a larger parking lot with easy access to the road in scenic downtown Grapevine. During peak hours, they get very busy and servers are much less likely to work with you. I had to go to the bar multiple times to get food or drinks ordered while a band was performing.

My second visit, my wifes first. Came to have dinner and listen to some live music. I had the chili. Spicy, just the way I like it. Delicious. My wife does not like spicy so she had a burger. She loved it. She had onion rings, said they were some of the best shes ever had. She likes her burger well done, and our server, Miley, made sure the kitchen got it right. She was very attentive, friendly, and took great care of us. It was very busy and we had a 40 minute wait. Spent it at the bar. We dont drink alcohol so had cokes. Bar didnt charge us. For dessert I had the choloate cake. Very good and very rich. My wife had key lime pie. She wasnt crazy about it. Band was an ELO tribute band. They were very good. Overall a wonderful experience. Very happy with the restaurant. We will definitely be back.

Took the train from Fort Worth so we could try Tolbert s wanting to have an adventure. This turned out to be a disappointment. Ordered the chicken fried steak, if this wasn t frozen/pre-prepared they did a good job of trying to duplicate that appearance and texture of one. Overcooked is the best way I can describe it. Fries were not warm/hot but the okra was good and crisp. Serving size was also sad, not expecting a plate full but definitely less than it should be for the price. Service was sub par. Got the drink order (ice tea) wrong twice. Had to track down the waitress just to pay the tab so we could leave. Just not a good experience for a first (and last) visit.

Update (1/17/24) They may have good food, but you only find out if you have a good server. The bartender this evening (not Kevin) had no idea how to deal with customers. I sat at the bar and tried ordering food for 20 minutes. He had the nerve to say to me, Believe it or not, youre not the only one here. Idiot! I wont be back.

It was a good experience. this was one of the first restaurants i was told i needed to try by grapevine locals when moving down here. it was ok. Not the first place i would look to go back to, but it was good and filling. **Update 1/4/24** This place was way better than i originally gave it credit. Moving up to 5 stars. I had a great chili frito pie bowl and a side of fries. The fries were great but that chili was fantastic. Service was great although she didnt have too many answers for my questions or my parents questions. Mom had a filling burger that was very tasty in her own words. My dad ordered carne asada. He complained but he always does about their food. They love casino buffets so i take thier opinion with a grain of salt. I said why would you order carne asada from a chili place? Its not their specialty and i would stay away from that choice. overall we had a great experience.

Perfect for this time of year, sometimes you just want chili. They offer different types. I got the Chili Verde. The 10 Alarm sauce to kick it up a notch was delicious. For those who want something else, they offer different options, like platters and salads. You dont see a lot of chili parlors in DFW, so its worth a try.

We were a party of 8 and were seated promptly. After that, service was rather slow. When our orders were taken, it took about 20 minutes to get our food. The food was barely warm. I had the salmon which was overcooked and dry. Our server did her best and was pleasant. Ive been to worse restaurants, but Ive also been to better.

I left a 4 star rating in my last review here. Yesterday my wife and I stopped by for a drink and quick bite. Server was looking in mirror, straightening up. We made eye contact. She proceeded to put her Hoodia up and then walk away without a mention. Mind you patrons on both sided of us needed drinks. After 8 mins, we left. I mentioned this to host standing behind checking booth. He stated not my job, I cant do anything about it. As a loxal we always try to buy and eat in Grapevine. It will be a long time before or if we return here.
