This store is not safe for children. The books they offer to kids are absolutely inappropriate and disgusting. I would never allow my child back in there.

While Im a fan of Barnes & Noble and Amazon...NOTHING is better than having and supporting a great little bookshop in your area. Were lucky enough to have Lark and Owl in Georgetown. Talk about tiny but powerful! Not only are the staff educated about whats on the shelves (read theyre real readers too) but theyre just great to chat with. A wide selection of books (I always find something in the fiction section) including a great kids section with a little area for the kiddos to hang out and read. For the adults, theres a great little coffee shop/bistro and sitting area to read...or work (they have plugs for laptops!). Theres a super fun gift/knick knack section too that never ceases to elicit a chuckle. If youre looking for gifts for yourself or fellow book nerds...its here. The shop has such a great, chill vibe. Theyve also just included a used book section which I love and I was able to pick up a years old first edition printing of a book from a local author who was having an author talk at the store. Oh ya, and about that, they have an amazing author series bringing in writers from all genres! If youre currently reading it...theyre probably getting the author to come talk about it! When I have a bad day, I head to the bookshop and this store and staff never cease to lighten my spirits and make me happy. Stop by and support a local, woman-owned bookstore. We need to keep this store around for years to come!

If you all love supporting local bookstores and coffee shops I would definitely recommend this cozy, quaint and cute little bookshop in Georgetown. It s one of my favorite places to go to. I visit here often and I just love the vibes and atmosphere in the bookstore. One of my favorite local bookstores and their coffee shop is amazing. They have a wide variety of books and I love their fiction section. If you have kids you will fall in love with their kids section. Such an adorable spot for little ones to sit, relax and read. They also have so many gift items that are really unique and you can t find anywhere else. I would just love if you all would support this amazing bookstore because when you support local you are supporting small business

Update: my book was not from the blind book date section. That s towards the front of the store, I bought this book from the religious section all the way at the back. This is a very cute store but I m very confused. The book I bought has to be second hand, the cover is widely open, pages are dirty and there is a black mark on all the pages that appears to be sharpie. Yet I was charged full face value? I probably could have picked up the same book at half price books for literally half the price. Religious section didn t have much, but true crime and other sections were full. Parking is scares because locals park there and walk to the court house. This store is very cute but buying a second hand book should be second hand price. Purchased this book today, definitely lots of wearing to it.

Ive loved Lark & Owl since they opened, but I recently had the best experience that prompted me to write a review! I came to do some homework while my sister got a haircut next door and was welcomed by the lovely ambiance of their cafe. I was able to plug my laptop in and enjoy perhaps one of the best matcha lemonades Ive ever had, as well as freshly baked butter croissant that the barista hand delivered to my table. My total was $10 for both the drink and croissant, but they were well crafted and and thoughtfully plated, making it worth the price in my opinion. The snack was so delicious, I promptly bought another for my sister! If youre looking for a new coffee shop to get some work done or simply read a new book while enjoying the cafe, I highly recommend this Georgetown gem!

I recently purchased a couple of books here, and asked if they could order a third that they didnt currently have in stock. I paid for the book at the time the order was placed and was given a receipt. A while later I got a call that it had arrived. When I went to pick it up, I was told that the price had gone up (by about 35%), so there was a balance I needed to pay. I had been under the impression that the transaction was complete when I ordered the book, so that came as a surprise. Just sharing so that others will be aware when placing special orders that the price isnt final until the book has been picked up.

My husband and I were in the area and stopped by to listen to Katherine Raey discussing her latest book, The Berlin Letters. I have read quite a lot and cant believe I didnt know about Katherine. She was very interesting, intelligent and seemed to love research-I dont get that ;o) I got the book and am looking forward to my first by Katherine. The Lark & Owl was very cool. We chatted with one of the owners as we were leaving and learned a bit about the place. She did a wonderful question/answer with Ms. Raey and weve been to a few. Wish we lived closer. I would find a reason to visit often.

This place is a gem! I come here from Austin to reward myself for achieving difficult things, because it is truly such a joy just to wander through and soak in the vibes, let alone browse the books and lovingly curated, well... everything. Its wheelchair accessible, with one parking spot close by, a ramp at the curb, and a push button at the entrance, though not at the bathrooms yet. (I loved the free menstrual & diaper station.) A staff member held the door for me as I came in and mentioned they do their best to keep aisles clear and accessible, but to please let someone know if anything needed adjustment that was such a lovely gesture, to see a business being proactive about accessibility AND in inviting feedback in advance. Most other places see accessibility as an afterthought or do the legal bare minimum, then leave it to the person with the disability to figure it all out ourselves. Its a very good sign whenever a person or organization shares in the mental load of disability access work. The whole place just radiates heartfelt, you can see how deeply the owners care about this place and being welcoming to a wide diversity of readers. I kept missing the café being open, so today was my first day trying it. Pretty spendy (what place isnt, these days?) but some of the drinks were under $4. The lemon poppyseed bundt cake was tangy, sweet, and absolutely delicious! I also enjoyed the egg salad, it seemed to have some kind of chipotle seasoning. The iced tea was better than average, and I liked that the to-go containers were compostable and recyclable. I was also grateful that they have three tables outside in the open-air for those of us who are still high risk and need to keep a mask on in closed spaces. I will say, having some kind of umbrella or shade would help, the white building is very bright in the sunlight.

So from the standpoint of single older guy....not for me. It is a nice clean store. It has a nice coffee area, even a couple of tables outside. The books, to me, seemed to be 50% kids/young adult and 50% adult. Not a lot of books, but enough to browse a little. I would say its more of a gift/cofee shop with some books added. Its nice, dont get me wrong. I did not see any guys in the store, lots of women who were happily browsing so from that I would say women like the store......like I said, very nice, just not for me. I will give it three stars for being nice and clean and organized.

I have been to Lark & Owl many times, and I absolutely adore their bookstore! It is the perfect amount of quaint, kitchy, and cozy. I love that they have a wide variety of items for sale aside from books, as well as a cafe/bar to eat and drink while you work or browse. Recently, I saw them advertising on instagram for people to host their next party or club at the bookstore. I inquired as it seemed like the perfect spot to host our English Department holiday party. They were super quick to respond with different options and they were so kind and accommodating throughout the process! It was the easiest booking interaction I have ever had. For about 20-25 teachers, we had the entire bookstore to ourselves to hang out, chat, play games, and shop! They allowed us to have a potluck and they had their bar open for us to order drinks throughout our event. Little setup was needed as they already have the bistro seating area, and they supplied a few tables for us to setup our food, gifts, and games. The entire evening was perfect, and they were helpful and attentive to our needs from start to finish. All of my coworkers loved having the event there and had such a wonderful time. I highly recommend booking your next event at Lark & Owl for the best experience and ambiance!

Lark & Owl is a magnificently curated collection of books (& more), with items that, yes, you *could* order if you ever heard about them except that very likely you will never hear of many of these books. The store has the usual sections, genre by genre, but I would want to draw your special attention to the strength of their curated collections of thoughtful non-fiction reflections on or studies of the sciences, history, autobiography & the human experience. Those genre sections with which I have spent significant time were equally thoughtfully curated. Whether you make a special trip to visit, or stay after one of the community events hosted there, I would say that any dedicated reader or curious spirit owes it to her/himself to explore the shelves there at least occasionally, discovering new materials off of your usual beaten path.

It s a bright and cheerful spot and I hope to return the next time I m in the area. Also - I am not a parent, but I did used to nanny, and their bathroom is SO accommodating for folx with toddlers or younger and an awesome setup for those who have their hands full of kiddie things. Really great cozy bookstore with awesome selection, knowledgeable staff, and GREAT coffee. The children s section had a little reading nook it was so cute ; however; almost every single child book on display was about like sexual identity, or social activism topics and I just feel like, why? We, as parents, can talk to our children and teach them about the rights and wrongs of life, and we can encourage them ourselves to be who they want to be and that we will love them unconditionally. Why can t children s books just be about children s things? Most characters are non binary anyway in children s books if you really think about it . It s too much and I respect having some on display that tackle these issues; but on the front forward facing display children s books, there were 9:1 ratio of woke/political undertones : to books that were simply about giving a mouse a cookie; and the consequences of other classic life lessons that children should learn as well.

Didn t feel like scum or a profiled criminal by either employees or anyone else, even the customers were awesome which is telling to an establishments atmosphere. It is hard for me to state my love for Lark & Owl in one review. I have only one business s t-shirts in my wardrobe, and it s two L&O shirts I use to send business their way whenever I can. In a county where it can be tough to be queer, or a person of color, or disabled, or young, or in any way different from the middle of the normie road, this place is an oasis of hope. They have an amazing book collection, but that s really just the beginning. You ll find great genre selections including a romance collection that is the envy of any book club. They also have great philosophy and social justice sections, and I m excited to see how they expand those and the history collections over time. This is my go-to place for gifts for the cool, smart people in my life. For a unique selection of journals, Knick knacks, candles, plants, crafts, etc., you can t go wrong. They also have several community book clubs that I think are a vital opportunity for people seeking some connection in what can feel like a conservative desert. Apparently I need to actually take pictures on one of my frequent trips, but I assure you won t be disappointed by the aesthetic. Go support your local bookstore!

The bistro inside is the perfect place to enjoy a perfect latte! They also had several good items too for a bite to eat...and an adorable seating area! Looking forward to returning often.

This is an amazing book store. The owners have obviously put a lot of thought and effort into making a warm and inviting space for book lovers and the community. It was larger than I expected with a fabulous book collection as well as tons of fun gifts and treasures. The thoughtful touches even extend to a fun area for kids including a reading nook, toys, and chalkboard as well as diapers and other necessities in the bathroom. I didn t visit the cafe, but looks like a fabulous addition to what is certainly more than just a bookstore.

This was such a delightful shopping experience with seemingly countless boujie items to partake of. The selection of books is impressive, the stationary section has something for everyone, and possibly the best were the metal pronoun pins by the register. Buyer beware! Between the super neat strike on bottle matches and solid cologne, you may have trouble leaving with less than $100 in lovely things!! 10/10 would do again!

A very cute and inclusive bookstore that really is great to have in the area. Doesnt have the biggest selection to choose from but they have great quality books with both new and classics to look through. The kids section was very cozy and our son enjoyed the book nook. Has a spot to chat and enjoy drinks or food and a nice outdoor section as well. Overall a great place just to look around as well as buy great books or gifts.

I came to visit the shop with my 5 and 7 year old toward the end of the day and not only did we all also love the children s reading area and book section, the staff were incredibly kind and patient towards my kids which is a gift in and of itself. I had to drag myself away from this place before I really got myself in trouble. Its simply magical. The shelves have labels for staff recommendations, autographed copies, unique categories, and art (check the Tolkien shelf). Then there are the non-book goodies. I happened to visit the week before Christmas so there may have been extra stocking stuffers on hand, but the candles, perfumes, jewelry, games, and other unique accessories and gifts were a bibliophiles dream. They have a great selection for all ages and interests. I didnt order anything from the cafe this trip, but its on my list for my next visit. This will definitely be a repeat stop whenever Im in the area!

Loved it!! Although the prices are a little high, they have a good variety of items to shop from. The drink bar is not fully opened and you can only order canned brewed coffee, selve served water and regular coffee or items from the monument cafe restaurant next door. They advised they are in transition and will open fully soon. The reading nook area for the kids its adorable and the ambiance is very welcoming and serene. The seating area was nice and cozy, although loud for a book store. The bathrooms were clean and well equipped, and the customer service was nice and friendly. The area outside needs a good cleaning because it would actually be perfect to go read or have a drink outside, but its a little unkept as of this moment. Well definitely be back and cant wait to bring friends so we can enjoy a good cup of coffee when theyre fully opened.

Schemes will be hatched here. Folks will stumble upon books that ll change their lives. Also, if they don t have the book you re seeking, Lark and Owl will order it. They also take suggestions. Really rad. **now that I m a parent** they have a great children s book selection, and hang out area. Not to mention they have the best changing station in Georgetown, to include diapers and wipes if you forgot them.

The staff is friendly and the selection of books and gifts is beautifully curated (missing only Kurt Vonnegut, who would perfectly fit their inclusive and community-minded collection). I can always count on finding some diverse and excellent gems when I visit. The store is gorgeous inside and out, but the warmth and conversation of the employees tops all. Stopping in is a lovely way to spend some time. What should young people do with their lives today? Many things, obviously. But the most daring thing is to create stable communities in which the terrible disease of loneliness can be cured. - Kurt Vonnegut
