Food was good, miso soup was hot and delicious! Lunch specials are great to share with a friend, very filling.(shared a bento box too)Had a California and Volcano roll, they were delicious. The server brought us ice cream since she heard me congratule my friend for her bday and I thought that was very nice and sweet of her. We will definitely go back and try other things.

We had dinner at Umi Sushi last night, and it was amazing! The portions were big, and the fish-to-rice ratio was perfect. Everything tasted super fresh and flavorful. I was really impressed with how good it all was. Definitely the best sushi spot in North Garland and Sachse!

Havent visited Umi Sushi before now, and wanted to give it a try. Small dining space. Sweet tea is VERY sweet, even 50/50. The House Salad is for two, possibly 3 if you have any chdren. Cold, fresh, and dressing is delicious. The appetizer of Shrimp Tempura was hot and good. Rolls of Haley Quinn, Lion King, and Big Mama. Needless to say, we did NOT need Big Mama. Theres no way 2 people can eat this and finish it. Its easy for 4 people to eat on. Rolls are very meaty, moist, and fresh. To-go order of Combination fried rice to try tomorrow. We will return.

Its very small place. The food was okay. The portions are out of control. The rolls are too big diameter and length. They fall apart too easily due to this. I never thought I could complain about that. However it is reflected in pricing. Its expensive. I asked the server for next time how could I get less, smaller rolls. He wasnt able to assist. So its okay. I probably wont be back due to these issues. Someone walked in while I was eating and asked if it would be okay if they had eight people.. its too small.

Ive been here a few times and the sushi is great! The staff is always pleasant even on a busy lunch day. The dining area is always clean. Its small and quiet. No booths but the service is always fast. There are lots of house rolls that are extra spicy which is my favorite, and they offer the usual rolls. However, their ramen leaves a bit to be desired. I had Donkastu ramen. Good size bowl for $12. Larger than other ramen places I go to. But the egg wasnt marinated, no topping add ons avaliable like corn, ear mushrooms, fish cake ect. Broth wasnt thick with that umami flavor and was lacking salt.

I have been a big fan of Umi Sushi however their service was extremely disappointing this time around. To preface, I usually dont want to write bad reviews however this marks as an indicator for the owners to re-evaluate their staff. My girlfriend and I arrived for dinner and things were going well until we were approached to take our order. The waiter who was taking our order was not even writing down what we were ordering. Which I understand a lot of experienced waiters do, so I did not mind. That was until he came back 10 min later to have us repeat our entire order and also NOT write anything down once again. We eventually received our order and quickly realized that he had given us an entirely wrong dish which was surprising given that I repeated our order multiple times to him. At first glance, I did not mind. People make mistakes and I get that but when I approached him to replace the dish, he gave an annoyed and dismissive attitude. It doesnt end there because for the rest of the night, the same attitude was consistently given. There was even a point in time when he rolled his eyes at my girlfriend, thinking that we did not see him. When we finally received the correct dish, he slammed the plate down and walked off. This behavior is completely unacceptable and unprofessional. I understand that people may have a bad day at work but DONT TAKE IT OUT ON THE CUSTOMERS. To management, he was the waiter wearing a fuzzy hat.

Came here for the first time and I was amazed at the size of the rolls. The restaurant is super chill and offer a variety of eats. I got the Cajun edamame, rainbow, spicy tuna , and others. The staff were all nice and have Japanese drinks. Great place. I highly recommend and will be going back. Ordered over the phone at 6:20pm was told it would be ready for pick up in 20 minutes. We arrived exactly at 6:40pm and the guy waiter walked up to us and we told him we had a pick up order for name and he replied we are still working on it. I waited and waited and waited. Finally after an hour and 20 minutes we realized we were supposed to walk up to the counter and check in and THEN they will start making your order. I was very annoyed that we stood there for 1hr20mins and nobody told us to check in. Instead the guy lied and said it was still being worked on. Food is great but service and pick up needs to be better organized and clear on how to get your food.

Dont get the spicy ramen. Advertised as spicy beef broth. Its literally a $.50 spicy ramen packet that they also add a bit of onions and mushrooms to it. Total scam on the ramen. Its just instant spicy noodles. They couldnt even hide the dehydrated veggies?!?! I get that its popular in Japan but to sell it for $13 dollars when you can buy it at a market for $.50 is insane!!!

Umi is quality! My boys and I love ordering and eating here. Though not sushi, the ramen and shrimp tempura appetizer is a must every time. If you opt for the basic California and Philly rolls they are great for newbies. Some of my favorites are the Jessica Albacore Tina sashimi, surf clam, yellow tail, anything salmon, Roll over roll, special crunch, and Las Vegas roll. You will not be disappointed with anything you order there. Its top notch and Im happy they here in Garland.

This is me and my wife s favorite sushi place in the area! I love the bigger roll sizes (each piece) and the pricing is decent for the top quality and quantity of the food that Umi serves. We love the service that we get when we dine at Umi, they treat you like family but also try to stay conscientious of your time. One of our favorite rolls here is a riceless roll called Cool Hawaiian. They recently started serving sake and Japanese beer, and I was introduced to Sapporo which is a light beer. Their house made salad dressing is a favorite of my wife s. Sarah the manager is always very friendly with us when we come in, and loves our feedback about the restaurant. She takes the time to talk and doesn t seemed rushed. My wife had been sick prior to this most recent visit, and I felt comfortable enough to ask Sarah for help to do a takeout order for us (my wife normally orders everything so I have no idea). Since we did make it in, I told Sarah that it was my wife s birthday and she made it a point to come over and sing to her with a special dessert. We just can t say enough about Umi Sushi!

My family and I had the best experience ever! First of all, the place looks amazing, clean, and has nice homey atmosphere. Second of all, Jane our server was sweet, polite, friendly, and made you feel very welcoming! Food was GREAT! The sushi, ramen, and combination fried rice was exemplary!! I definitely recommend this place! Lastly and third of all, Jane always made sure we were good and/or if we needed refills, napkins, or any sauce. Be aware, the sweet-and-sour chicken is NOT sweet and sour, it is sweet and very spicy. The menu pictured here on Google says it is sweet and sour sauce, on doordash it calls it sweet and sour but the description says it is spiced with chili sauce. I didnt notice that until it was too late and my kid wouldnt eat it because it was too spicy. I ate some of it, and it was still pretty good, but certainly very spicy and not as titled. I also ordered the seared salmon, salmon Roe, and a spicy tuna roll which was a little sloppy, but tasted good. Two of the containers were cracked when I got them from delivery, sauce everywhere, but I guess I cant blame the restaurant, probably the driver. Ive ordered through doordash and Umi many times. Usually its very good. Ill try it again, but not the sweet and sour chicken.

My wife & I tried this place for the first time lookig for a new sushi place. The food was wonderful. But they made us feel rushed. Update - response to owner s reply to my original review (below). I stand by my review. 1 - The employees did not say there is a new WiFi server, they said the owner is the only person with the password and the owner was not on site when I visited. 2 - A tiny table pushed against the wall is not a pleasant way to dine. 3 - Pricing and layout of their online menu is completely different than the physical menu at the restaurant. I would have discovered that had I been able to use either of their WiFi networks. It s unfortunate the owner s response to my review was to say I didn t read the menu and the lack of relevant info from the staff was no one s fault. Sometimes it s best for a business to simply apologize and warmly welcome a local resident back and/or invite the dissatisfied customer to contact the manager directly. As stated in my original review, I will not return. Downgraded from 2 star to 1 star due to owner s reply to my original review. Left before ordering. Keep reading for details... Have been looking forward to eating at Umi Sushi for months after reading so many positive reviews. I went there around 5 pm on a weekday afternoon and was seated right away. Dining area is small and somewhat cramped. Not saying thats a bad thing, just saying its small and somewhat cramped. My companion and I were seated at a small 2 top table that was pushed against the wall. The restaurant was mostly empty at that early dinner hour. Water was brought to the table promptly as were menus. The roll menu is very extensive so I wanted to check out reviews to see which rolls and other entrees people like. There were 2 wifi networks listed as Umi Sushi. I asked for the password and was told by an employee I have never used the wifi here so I dont know the password. I asked that employee to maybe ask someone else. Employee returned and said no one has the password, only the manager and the manager is not here. I did not go to Umi for their wifi, but in July 2022 that response seemed pretty lame. So I logged on the wifi network from the restaurant next door which was open to anyone. I guess that restaurant is happy to help people stay connected. As I was starting to search for reviews on the rolls, I noticed there were no prices on one entire side of the menu. The side without prices is where the custom rolls are listed - and there are dozens of them. Basic rolls on the other side were priced but the good/custom stuff was not. Not one price. And many (maybe most) of those special rolls were listed as 2 pieces or something along those lines. Ive never seen that in a sushi restaurant other than a very special roll that is subject to market pricing. At that point I had a tiny table that was shoved against the wall allowing no elbow room, I experienced numerous employees who did not know the password to either of their wifi networks, and I had a menu with no prices (for the items of most interest to my companion and me). So before things got even more weird, I stood up and left our glasses of water on the table. We went to another restaurant in the Firewheel shopping district. That restaurant had a wifi network for customers, smiles on every employee face and prices on every menu item. Its too bad because I really wanted to like Umi Sushi based on the many positive reviews. I will not go back...

We loved this place until they started to become inconsistent. There would be times when they dont answer the phone for to go. Then I placed a to go order for pick up and they let someone else take my food. Instead of remaking my food, they were trying to get it back. The food tastes great. I get its a small establishment, but dont let these mistakes draw people away. They could also have a better menu online. Finding it is a pain.

Used to be great. The last few visits, the portions were incredibly small, and sushi was not as fresh, even have a bit of bad fishy smell. And they are charging more for them. Revoking endorsement unfortunately. ------ 2 years ago; Everything we had was excellent. The spicy teriyaki had good flavor, good wok char. All the sashimi were very fresh. Hope they keep it that way. The rolls were yummy albeit some were quite heavy with mayonnaise based sauces. I would come here again, especially because its BYOB!

I heard the servers talking about how their owners steal their tips and they get no tips at all. If they say anything, they will get in trouble and be fired. My servers have always been amazing and very nice. They work very hard and deserve their tips! The new owners of this restaurant are also very rude not like the past owners. I recommend coming here for the food but do not tip since none of it goes to their servers.

I have always loved this restaurant and always enjoyed the food. However, today after going I will never return due to the level of disrespect from the manager. My family ordered the vegetable egg rolls and they were not fresh at all. They did not taste good and had a very weird after taste. After taking a bite out of one of the four rolls we sent it back. We asked to get the shrimp tempera instead as a replacement. We then ordered two $17 rolls and gyoza. We very much enjoyed the rest of our food and thought all was well. When we got the check we realized we had been charged for the egg rolls. We asked the server to take it off and the sweet server said she would get her manager to take it off since we sent it back and DID NOT eat it. When she returned she explained that her manager would not take it off. My mom then asked to speak to the manager. When the manager came over she explained that the egg rolls were a popular item and were not expired so she will not take it off of the tab. My mother explained to her that we did not eat them because they did not taste good. We told her about how we have come many times and have ordered the egg rolls and always enjoyed them, but they did not taste how they normally do. The manager then told us that she would go to the back to see if they were expired. When she came back she said that they were not expired, but that the reason they taste like that was because they were frozen. She then went on to say there was nothing wrong with them so she refuses to take it off. It is only $6.47 nothing major, but it s the principal of how the manager acted. My mother, upset by the way the manager was speaking to her, said she would not pay for what we did not eat. The manager upset stormed off and the server apologized, seemed embarrassed by how her manager was acting. Later the manager came back with it taken off of the tab. We made sure the VERY SWEET server got a good tip and left. Overall this place has sweet servers and usually good food, but a TERRIBLE manager.

Hi and thanks for taking concern about my rating. I wasnt going to post a review because I was going to give it another try at one point. The sushi was fine, the sashimi was a bit fishy and couldve been colder. Great presentation of rolls. The main reason it was a low rating was that one of our rolls contained plastic from the crab meat. Then when it was brought to the kitchens attention, we overheard a few comments and then the head chef was just staring at us for the rest of the meal. We didnt cause a scene and just felt awkward for the remainder of our meal. The last roll came out after the incident and I didnt feel comfortable of even taking a picture of it for Google bc the chef was staring and I didnt want him thinking I was taking evidence photos or anything.

If the service was as good as the food, Id give 5 stars. The kid serving us just seemed annoyed with us. I politely asked for extra lemons for my water and he was rude from then on. I finally had to ask if we could please order after 15 minutes of waiting. He was serving only 1 other table. He had earbuds in the entire time so maybe he couldnt hear us well. He smarted off to my husband when he was trying to ask about the Ramen. Our food came out all at different times and appetizers were not first. HOWEVER- the food is incredibly delicious! Big portions and reasonably priced. It was so good we even went back to grab ramen for our son for dinner. The shrimp dumplings hit my tastebuds like nothing Ive ever eaten. The Bento box provides plenty of food even for big appetites. I ordered the Superman burrito and Ill never be able to finish it in this lifetime! Shrimp tempura was fried perfection. Crispy yet soft with a great batter. I could drink the Ponzu sauce. The Ramen is phenomenal. Noodles are cooked perfectly and its just salty enough. We will still go back but I just hope we get better service or well just do carry out.

The first thing you notice when you walk in is the smell. I went during the week for lunch, the place was empty, we were seated immediately. Our food came out fast and everything tasted fresh. I ordered 4 rolls and they were all great. Their fried rice was not good at all, it s more like white rice with sauce on top. I will def be back but would take it to go just because of the way it smells in there.

Tried for the first time. Sushi roll had fishy taste to it. The bulgogi meat was not true korean bulgogi meat, but seemed like chopped up beef bites (not thinly sliced beef) marinated in some sauce (not true Korean marinade). I didnt eat the bento box because the meat was funny tasting, you could taste the red meat blood mixed/cooked into the sauce. I was expecting them not to charge me for the bulgogi bento box, but they did. Lastly, but not really a big deal; everyone that walked in and out received a greeting. I didnt hear a greeting when I entered or left.

This was my 3rd time at Umi and it was just as delicious as the first two. The Ahi Tower is my all-time favorite, when it comes to sushi, but some minor health issues have me holding back from any spice. I had to find something mild, yet flavorful, and let me tell you... the Lion King roll is it. Such a delightful combination of tastes, yet it doesnt cause me pain (like spice currently does). Its so tasty, Ive now had it twice. Service has been nice each time, too. Price point is what Id consider average, as this deluxe roll, I believe, was $15.95. Just as filling as it is delicious. Give Umi Sushi a try. Its worth it.

Guess your experience depends on the day. Stumbled upon this lil place and I should have known from the scent at the door to GO NO Further!! I tried it anyway as the septic systems seems to be a thing here in Texas. Anywho, I tried friend rice both shrimp and chicken. Well if I wanted boiled rice with meat added I could have just threw some Uncle Bens on at home. It was over cooked=soggy and extremely flavorless. Thought for a second we was at the hospital. Did not even get the servers name and he was slammed with tables that he couldn t even maintain serving us. Now let s talk about the drenched Lobster Dynamite Rolls with the Manager alleged special sauce. The dish definitely needed to be placed in another category the rice was soggy you could see it before even touching it. Tried it anyway. Flavor was ok but just not what I expected. I just never had sushi drowning in sauce. For me and my family it s a NO!

Umi Sushi at Firewheel Center is a great spot to grab a quick bite of your favorite Asian food. Chicken fried rice is one of my favorites and the Volcano Roll (quite literally on fire) was as delicious as its presentation promised.
