Expensive fancy dining with mediocre food and disappointing view. Servers did their best to make the whole experience fine dining. Lobster bisque was okay. Steak and shrimp with mushrooms special had a nice presentation but in terms of flavor, I have had $12 steaks that were better.

I had my wedding reception with them, and they were amazing!!!! The way things flowed was amazing. The servers were amazing, the food was phenomenal! Working with management at hospitals you learn to see how True Leaderships makes a facility flow with ease and peace, and I say that to say that Byron is a leader. He is the manager of Shearn seafood and steakhouse, but with amazing leaderships skills. He was attentive and he was serving with the servers.. which says a lot about how he manages things. I ve never met a manager who serves with the servers and is at attentive as Byron was, and I ve been around to plenty exquisite restaurant to see who truly is doing a wonderful job and who just does what they re paid for. God bless everyone who made my wedding reception possible. God bless Byron and his family. God bless all of the servers.

I d give Shearn s a five star for quality, quantity & service. Located on the top of Moody Resorts, this restaurant boasts one of the best views in the city. They serve a really good steak & have quite a variety of cuts to choose from - New York strip to prime. Ask for the specials menu - there may beer something there that appeals to your palate, in particular. They also have a set meal option that may work for you as it includes starters or appetisers, entrees, desserts, the works for a fixed price. The dessert cart offers quite a varied option from apple pie to cream brûlée. Service is great but May be a bit slow. I love how the menu lights up so it can be read easily in dim light or for those with compromised eyesight. Parking: Ifs located on the top floor of a resort, so there s plenty of parking in the resort premises

Our dinner was in the lounge section. No dress code for this part of the restaurant. First time here and was delighted! First night was just cocktails, second night was cocktails and dinner. Pictured is a wedge, and lobster bisque. Not pictured was escargot, and their shrimp dejango. Talk about rich in butter and flavor! Of course we had to order dessert! Pictured is the cheesecake, bread pudding, and apple pie ala mode. All three were so good! Everything was amazing, food, ambiance, and wait staff. Stacey was the best! Attentive, recommendations, small talk, her drinks were great! She was the best that night! Will definitely be back again!

Amazing city views, that is the best I can say. My wife and I had a 7:30 reservation. We arrived and were asked to wait in the lobby as our table was not ready. OK. 10 mins later we were seated and asked for a second time the name on our reservation. OK, even high end restaurants have their off day. We were provided water and bread when we sat down along with menus and then nothing for 45 minutes. Not even an ask if we wanted more water. Went to ask the receptionist at the front of the restaurant what was going on, and he was not there. At that point I went back to the table and we got up and left. The restaurant was a little more half full and two large groups were seated after us, ordered drinks and food and one group actually had their meal served. Food looked and smelled great but the service was terrible. I have no idea how this happens at a plus $100 a plate establishment. On the way out of the hotel we did mention what happened to the front desk and they apologized. After we left and found another restaurant we got a call asking why we left and apologizing for the poor service with the reason being they were very busy. If you get served I suspect the food is great, nothing like being totally ignored (and yes we were dressed appropriately, and were hoping to have a wonderful dinner to celebrate our 22nd wedding anniversary).

I called the establishment multiple times on 12/24 and 12/25, intending to cover my parents Christmas dinner as a surprise by providing my credit card information. However, my card was never charged, and I later discovered that my parents had paid for the check. I spoke with a woman named Lady at the restaurant, and she apologized, suggesting they could reverse the charge along with a 20% gratuity when my parents were no longer present. Initially, I misunderstood, thinking they would deduct 20% as a courtesy for their error. However, Lady only offered her apology, leaving me disappointed and considering whether I should cancel my card to avoid any further mistakes on their part.

I think what made our experience a pleasant dinner was our waiter, Oscar. He was on top and made sure we were taken cared of. The food and presentation were excellent. The setting and the atmosphere was awesome. We took toddlers with us (grandkids) and they were treated just as nice. I will come back for sure . It s an upscale restaurant. Dress appropriately- Thanks for everything. Until next time

Overall not impressed, but there were a few highlights. Appetizers were really good and the Cesar salad was one of the best I have ever had. The lobster bisque is one of their most acclaimed items on the menu, and rightfully so because it was phenomenal!...unfortunately that is pretty much where it ended. There were four of us at the table so we ordered four separate items with intentions of sharing (22oz dry aged strip, prime ribeye, stuffed redfish, & lamb loin chops). The fish and lamb arrived first, followed by both steaks roughly 5 minutes later. The stuffed redfish was tasty, but I could tell it had been sitting for a while before being brought to the table, the lamb was cooked and seasoned nicely, again... unfortunately that is about all I can say about the entrees because both steaks were severely overcooked. We ordered both steaks medium rare but they both came out medium well/well done. Our waiter was very understanding and took them back assuring us he would have the kitchen cook 2 new steaks for us. After another 20 minute wait the new steaks were finally brought out. The 22oz strip was cooked to temp, but they missed the mark again on the ribeye. At that point we all became a little irritated with the situation and just asked that the ribeye be taken off the bill and proceeded to share the 22oz strip, which was mediocre at best. When it came time for dessert we were all ready to just throw in the towel, but since it was my birthday I was offered a dessert on the house, for which I chose the New York style cheesecake w/strawberry drizzle on top because it looked amazing!!! Unfortunately looks did not translate into taste! It was literally one of the worst pieces of cheesecake I have ever eaten. I seriously doubt it was made in-house and there was some type of waxy coating on it. I think the waiter may have taken me too seriously when I pointed to the cheesecake and said I want that right there; Im thinking he may have actually given me the piece that was on display! To satisfy the sweet tooth that I had developed I orderd a Brandy Alexander, which they make with ice cream, and it was pretty damn good! Overall I gave this place a 2 star rating because the staff was very friendly and the appetizers, soup, salad, and dessert drink were very good. However, that is not what brought us to Shearns restaurant. We went there expecting exactly what is in the name prime steaks and seafood. Instead we got prime starters and mediocre entrees! Given other reviews of this place, I hope this was an anomaly, but with the number of empty tables we saw last night, it seems to me this could be more of a trend than a one-time occurrence!

This place is Horrible!!!! The view is amazing, the presentation is amazing. But the food is not all that! For the price that we pay for, the quality of the food that they gave us did not match our expectations! They served my Husband, my eldest and my youngest a watered-down drink! Me, my husband, my parents French Onion Soup are Burned! We told them and gave us the option to pick another appetizers and that one was not good also and not hot at all, dont have any flavor. And The worst part was. At 2am my middles son woke up from stomach pain and started throwing up. As the hours goes by, my husband started throwing up and then my youngest son. They gave my whole family food poison!!! And they are still not ok as Im writing this review. I have a whole family thats food poison right now. They never told us also that there is a dress code until we called and asked ourselves like an hr before we came. Do not come to this restaurant. And owww pls dont make me start talking about the dessert, it looks pretty but it was a joke! Walmart cake tasted better that those so called high-end dessert.

I went there to have a nice dinner with family and some friends we have not seen for a long time. I came straight from the pool as this place is in a nice hotel. Instead of simply informing there was dress code the host lied about an hour and a half wait time with a restaurant full of open tables. I then was instructed to wait at the bar where I found out about the dress code. I used to manage restaurants, I know what a wait looks like and empty tables everywhere is not it. If there is a dress code, I understand. The place looks upscale. It would have been easy to get changed as I had nice clothes with me. This is inside a hotel, expect guests to be comfortable and enjoying the amenities here. Instead of stating the dress code, the host lied and treated me like garbage. Avoid this place. If they lie to your face at door and mistreat you before you even excellent food and service wont make up for it.

WOW! This is one of the best absolute best meals we have had in Galveston and the top 3 meals ever! Small, quaint, & quiet atmosphere with an excellent view of the island. The sunset view is supposed to be amazing, but we had a rainy day. We started with a French onion amuse bouche. I decided to go for their restaurant week menu, which is a 3 course meal benefitting Galveston ISD. I had the she crab soup that was perfectly creamy & crabby. My entree was a stuffed red fish with saffron risotto. It was well cooked and delicious. My fish needed a touch of salt, but it was still excellent. I completed my meal with their opera cake for dessert. My husband had their lobster bisque. It was tasty, but lobster was slightly overcooked. He enjoyed the ribeye, which was cooked to a perfect medium rare and well seasoned. My husband ordered their truffle potatoes, which were amazing! The sauces they had with them were fire! He finished his meal with their raspberry soufflé which was absolute perfection! Our meals were timed out perfectly, and presentation was on point. Our server, Joshua, was phenomenal! He was attentive and friendly. Highly recommend for a romantic date night! Prices were fair, and we agreed it wasnt over the top expensive. We will definitely be back!

Came with the wife and her family a while back and decided to come back for our anniversary just to get some more of that amazing Ahi tuna steak!!!! Been looking forward to it for a long time this place is great for a fancy night out! UPDATE July/22 Apparently the restaurant has a new chef and is completely different in food quality. There is no longer ahi tuna on the menu which is the only entree I cared about eating there. I got the 16oz NY strip steak and it was very mediocre for a $60 steak, I was rather disappointed. The $15 side of spinach and onions tasted old but the waiter was nice enough to remove it from our bill and the manager was very apologetic. Overall the restaurant still has class and very good staff but the new chef and menu are not impressive.

I booked the Seahorse room for a party of 20, aprx $2000. We asked and confirmed 2x to have a large square or U shape, not round tables. No problem! Upon arrival, the tables were not set up correctly. We asked to speak with a manager and was told they would get one... long story short, NO MANAGER or any supervisor there (which we were not told the truth until after 2 hours & 3 additional requests to speak with someone. ) We moved the round tables to semi-sit together, and made the best of it. 1st course was served over an hour after seating (didnt get out of there until nearly 4 hours later) Bar drinks were terrible. The main part, the food, was definitely sub-par, in fact 2 steaks were not even eaten. This was a big event for our family and I was beyond disappointed with everything except.....the view. I wish I would have choosen a different Prime Restaurant. I will never give my business to Shearns ever again.

Wow. Absolutely top notch fine dining l. We ve had drinks at the bar before but never dined at the restaurant. Our party of four was well served by Joshua and we were the last reservation at 7:40. We stayed till 11 and we re never pressured to leave. They know how to make a Tanqueray martini! The house a Sauvignon Blanc was excellent. Between us, we had the lobster bisque which was presented first with large chunks of lobster in the bowl and the rich bisque poured on top. The filet mignonette and grouper special were both cooked to perfection and the Caesar salad was crisp, fresh and done right with the requisite anchovies. I had the scallop appetizer, five perfectly seared discs of perfection over an apple, pear and bed of greens. I really tried to stay away from the bread basket but had a warm, thin seeded cracker I slathered with butter. Pricey, yes. Worth it, by far! I d go there again just for the lobster bisque. Reservations recommended, dress code - dressy casual - no jeans, bathing attire, baseball caps , shorts or flip flops. Check out the website for the full scoop before you go. Take your time here, the view alone is a treat! Great date night!

It is a lovely restaurant with wonderful views of the parking lot. They take the dress code seriously, even for kids. That said, there are several decent kid s options (4oz filet and veg, chicken tenders and fries, chicken Alfredo pasta). Service is excellent. The charcuterie board was underwhelming, not in its selection, but quality. The red snapper and jumbo shrimp special was delicious, as was the bone-in ribeye. Cooked perfectly. The crab and mushroom topping for the steak was bland and very one dimensional. Individual ingredients were delicious but nothing held it together. I appreciate it is a topping and not a sauce, but a fat to bind it together would have been much better. Perhaps a browned herbed butter or seasoned cream. Personal preference. Note that most of the other toppings were fat based. Great wine list in its simplicity. Perhaps half a dozen or so wines per region, but a broad range of varietals. Vintages are not listed, which is a little frustrating. The 2016 Pio Cesare Barolo was delicious ($125). Prices as expected so no surprises. Excellent desert. I think the waiter was Josh. God job.

My steak was way over cooked, my girlfriends was way under cooked and half way through our entree, a cockroach decided to scurry across my girlfriends plate. They did comp 10.00 off but really. That ruined our night. I was going to propose, but she lost all romance in the evening. I reported it with pictures and got nothing but excuses. Not sure, but there response destroyed my night and what I paid over 380.00 for 2 people for... I made prior arrangements with them and it was the worse night of my life.

Shearn s has been and will continue to be one of our very favorite fine-dining restaurants anywhere we have ever been. We stayed at the Hotel Saturday night & made advance reservations for dinner that evening. We started out with cocktails in the Lounge & Logan was wonderful. At dinner we were seated by the window - greet table & Damien was our server. We could not have been more pleased - great service & recommendations! I had the Escargot & my husband had their French Onion Soup for starters. He then had their Blue Cheese Wedge salad & I had to get their Caesar Salad (always the best). For our entrees - he ordered the 16-oz NY Strip & as always I had their Petit Filet with their amazing Peppercorn sauce. Over the years we have learned you must order your Soufflé beforehand, as it takes 45-minutes to prepare...we each had the Soufflé Grand Marnier...spectacular! We also enjoyed a glass of their Port Wine with our dessert. We wish there were comparable restaurants in Houston, but not any longer...so we will continue to come down for a treat whenever the urge hits. Thank you for a beautiful & tasty evening! - UPDATE - We live in Houston & being a weeknight we did not wish to spend the night at the hotel, so we drove 60-miles to and from BUT Shearn s food and service made it 100% worthwhile the trip. The restaurant is what we would call old world , in that everything is top-notch - from the servers, food being brought to your table on serving carts, to the outstanding quality of food served. We have never had a meal that was not perfection! Our server, Sergio was the best! We had such a wonderful time - we made reservations for Valentine s Day for us and our Son & DIL.

The Prime Steaks are a Joke, cold and no marbling whatsoever, they did make my son some fried shrimp, 6 of them for 36 bucks, other than that, stay away horrible horrible horrible.

Dinner took literally 2.5 hours. They forgot an entire entree and my medium steak was very red on the inside. They comped a dessert for our trouble and wait, but yet it was my birthday.. they do that anyways??? So in reality they didn t do anything above what they do for everyone to rectify our issues. Food was bland. Very underwhelmed. Would not recommend to anyone.

This was our third favorite fine dining restaurant on Galveston Island. It was the most expensive, and the atmosphere was the most swanky. The view was great from the 9th floor of the Moody Gardens convention center The place would be great for an anniversary or other special occasion. The service was exceptional, our waiter was Michael and he was able to make great suggestions for us. The house wine (red) was also a cut above other restaurants in the area. The food was great, but for the most part not exceptional. For starters, the bread was stale. I asked for another basket, but it was the same. My husband started with the Baby iceberg wedge salad, which was good. I had the Shrimp Dejonge, which was the best thing I had and was truly exceptional. For the main course my husband had the 8 oz filet with Crab Oscar topping, which was very good, and I had grilled vegetable stack, which was OK (too much eggplant for my taste). We had dessert, which was to split a good cheesecake. The coffee was excellent. I know it is gauche to mention cost, but it was hard for me to tell how much we would be paying since the menu is not posted on the Moody Gardens website. So I will be gauche and mention that the full bill with tax was $160, which was not outrageous for wine, appetizer, entree, dessert and coffee. The problem was not the cost, it was the lack of feeling like we got our moneys worth. I probably would not go back, but would recommend for a fancy occasion, particularly for your mother or a guest you want to impress from out of town. If only for the view.

I ll start by saying I m a Top 10% Google Reviewer so here goes the details. Ugh where to start first I ll start with the positives. Waiters were amazing, view was to die for but it all ended there. First I had Lobster bisque and it came out ALMOST room temp. Next, wife had lobster tail with filet cooked medium and I ordered the 8 oz filet cooked medium and our sides were lobster Mac and cheese and cream spinach. My wife s lobster tail was mutilated, her steak was cooked well done with no seer and the only flavor it had was from the sauce they put on top of it. My steak was cooked well done (i ordered medium) and it had no seer and was very much lacking any flavor at all. Both our sides were ALMOST room temp! For desert we had the key lime cheesecake and it was actually the best part of the meal but even that wasn t anything to brag about. For the price of the food we both got A LOT better for A LOT less $ elsewhere. We are really disappointed in this place because we really had high hopes for it but save your money and go elsewhere because almost every other place is WAY better and I m sure can cook a better steak and knows how to handle a lobster tail. Maybe IF i let them know i was a food reviewer they would have been more up on their game!

We are a bit confused at all the excellent ratings this restaurant received. We came in on a Friday evening at prime-time dinner hour. We had to struggle to even get our waiter to acknowledge us, much less take our orders even though there were very few tables due to the current climate of the world. Our appetizers came before our drinks, our waters were always empty, our used dishes filled the table, the service team boxed up all the tables around us but tried to hand us boxes for ours, THEN when they actually boxed our food, they completely forgot an entire meal with a barely touched $50 filet.... We ended up spending over $600 with a party of 5 and couldn t seem to get any service. With this level of restaurant, we expect a LOT better and I would have rather of spent my money elsewhere. I gave it two stars because at least the food was good. Still extremely disappointed overall.

Through reputation and history, one already knows that Shearns delivers at the top echelon of the restaurant industry. What sets this place apart was our server Samantha. 1st, honesty. If there was a question posed that she was not absolutely sure abou , she made absolutely sure to let us know who did. 2nd, she went out of her way to make sure everything was exactly the way we wanted. She brought in Josh to assist us with the wine list. Such professionalism from them both. 3rd, her passion and love for what she does there was inspiring hopeful during this trying time for everyone.she really puts this place high on my list places I cant wait to come back to.

My husband and I came here 4 years ago on a date. We decided to take the kids with us this second visit while staying at the hotel. We made reservations for 9pm and arrived 10 minutes prior. It took about 25 minutes to get our table. After seating, we waited a very very long time after that to get our drinks. We waited a full hour and still had not even gotten our menus to order. I understand that they may be short staffed due to Covid, but limit how many guests you take in. The couple behind us in line had no reservations. We had reservations. I feel like reservations should take priority especially when your that busy. There was another family who was after us who got menus and another family after us who got menus + got to order their food. Even the couple who had no reservations got their drinks before us. The server was not efficient at all and there was no rhyme or reason to how she did anything she did. She could have bought herself time by handing out menus to tables and then taking drink orders. She was all over the place and you could hear her complaining about how many tables she ha, making everyone feel like an inconvenience... with how much money everything cost on the menu and how much is expected as a tip, the customers shouldnt feel like a thorn in someones side. A notebook and pen would have helped her tremendously. I saw her return to tables repeating what she thought they had said they wanted. I had asked right when we sat down if she could rush some food out for my 1 year old. It took over an hour to get. It was after 10pm when we just walked out. We were not the only tables that walked out either. We watched two tables walk out before us. The manager found a few of us on the 1st floor and comped us food from the other place.... because the place near the pool ran out of pizza and the 1st floor eating area was closing. It literally was the worst timing... to have waited over an hour, not recieved menus, then to find out everything on site was either closing or didnt have food to feed your family. Thank goodness the manager tried to make it right. The 2 stars is for the manager. I give 0 to the waitress.

Staff was excellent but the food was bland and left me wanting. The ONLY unique and delicious part of the meal was the dessert. You can get WAY better tasting food for less at Pappa s Seafood on the mainland. You re basically paying for a view, exclusivity because of the dress code and prices, and the wait service. Moody gardens is so high on its own name that it can t be bothered to really try in the kitchen. They know people will eat at Shearn s either way because it makes them feel high class, even though the food is Applebee s quality at best. Again, the waitstaff did an amazing job and I have no issue with them!

The most unequivocally 3-star restaurant I ve ever visited. All style, no substance. Not necessarily a bad thing, just know what you re going for. They present a luxury restaurant experience, for sure: tasteful decor, if a little over the top in some places; well-trained staff; good wine list; nice views. But the food is quite uninspired. Not bad, just a little boring. Amuse bouche crostini had some nice spice to it, but tasted like salsa on a bagel chip. Manhattan was way too heavy on the bitters. Parmesan crisp on the Caesar salad was anything but crispy. Sauce on the filet was flavorless. But the basics are there, and the service was very good. I wouldn t mind going back, but I certainly wouldn t go out of my way to do so.

We went here for the first time while staying the weekend in Galveston. Ive been to numerous other steakhouses that were always on some sort of list or another from having top quality food, however, Shearns really does step the game up in this regard. To begin, service was excellent. For a place such as this you would expect great service but it really was top notch. The environment is fantastic, especially at night with a view of moody gardens in the background. The food... I started with the lobster bisque which was phenomenal on its own, add in a bit of dry sherry and it was just out of this world. The wife had the French onion soup, reported that although it was good it was not the best she ever had. Moving in, we had an order of grilled chicken for her and the filet for myself. The filet a as ordered medium, came out medium rare. No issue for me but maybe for others to be aware of. The steak was fabulous.. the sauce for the steak was phenomenal. Everything about the main entree was perfection in my book. At the end as mentioned previously there is a 17% service charge added to your bill. Some folks may take issue to this as this isnt typical in American resyaurants. We found the service to be exceptional and added to the service charge. Overall, if youre in the area.... or not even in the area but willing to drive to Galveston to check this place out you will not regret it. We most recently were at vic and Anthonys and I will say, I would drive to Galveston again for a steak from shearns.
