New location and evidently new management. Old place was excellent fond memories of stuffed avocado. Now it was not good some thick cheese sauce terrible flavor. Seemed like same cheese as for the caso we ordered not good and hardened to like glue. We were so looking forward to eating there again. But now they are on our do NOT go thier list,sad Wheelchair accessibility: Did not see elevator, and it is upstairs

I came for a party there were over 50 people and they and they only assigned 2 servers to our area the host of the party and the hired DJ made the atmosphere fun and exciting but because we came expecting to eat a meal we were frustrated and the ladies ability to take care of the crowd. They both remained very pleasant and apologetic but it was totally unacceptable over 30 min to place a food order and get the drinks which we ordered within 5 min of walking in the door. The party of 4 only received 3 drinks advise the other would be right up WELL after 10 min we went to the hostess stand and ask if someone could get us a lemonade of course by that time all the other drinks were empty we were dying of thirst. As expected the food over 30 min to come out that s not on the wait staff not sure who s responsible for the understaffing but surely this gathering was on their books and they were totally unprepared or could careless about taking care of us. Enough for me to say thank but no thank you Tortuga my first and last time food was just ok and we would have like to gotten the event speciality drink but that never happened and I personally didn t bother to order and entree I lost my appetite with this foolishness #poor-management The PARTY WAS LIT OR I would have left in the first 30 min.# 1NDONE - thank you but no thank you

Went there for a birthday party. Very accommodating for a large party of about 30ish people. Food was delicious and good. Service was great but wouldve been better with two waiters but still got the job done. And was very patient with everyone. This review might seem petty, but they are ripping people off. They charge you a Cash Discount adding money to your bill. A fee that you were not told about, and it is not posted. They staff is aware of the rip-off but can not do anything about it. They also put more costly items on my receipt over what I ordered. I am local here and will not be going back. I recommend you go somewhere that wont rip you off.

Great food, great drinks! I love that theres plenty of room for our whole family when we get together. The staff is always friendly. The patio area has a great view of the beach, (much better view than the previous location) Ive been when there was karaoke going on in the back and it looked like a really fun party atmosphere, but there are other areas for more of a family vibe. This place has it all! Oh yeah and a wonderful happy hour, even on weekends! I make a trip to Galveston every year for a week and I visit Tortugas at least once if not twice on every trip. My mom who is in a wheelchair travels with us. Our first trip after the location changed we went and realized there are only stairs in front so we drove all around the building looking for a way up with the wheelchair, we never found a way so we left to go somewhere else. Then decided to call and ask about getting in. I was so happy we did because there is a small elevator in the back corner of the building that we just didnt see while driving around in the dark. Hope this info is helpful for someone.

We went for lunch 7/25/24 and caught the lunch happy hour special! $5 wine, $6 queso, $6 guacamole, $6 Mexican corn (the best!!!) and $10 fajita beef nachos - more than enough for two. Debra R was our very efficient and friendly waitress. The guacamole was fresh and tasty, in fact everything was. My only issue was dust on the fixtures above. They need a good cleaning!! Great views from here & perfect for large groups.

This Tex-Mexican restaurant is very reminiscent to Casa Olé! The portions are large and the prices are reasonable. Our food was hot and fresh tasting. I cant recommend the salsa; it tasted like canned tomato sauce with no seasonings. I was looking forward to good chips and salsa with dinner, so that was a major disappointment. The queso, on the other hand, was very creamy and had a good flavor. Our server, Adriana, was very attentive and kind. I will say that this restaurant definitely needs to do better with cleaning; everything we touched was sticky. The chairs, the menus, the napkin holders, salt and pepper shakers... A regular deep cleaning of everything might do this place some good! Overall, this restaurant was fine.

it s a damn shame that the kitchen staff do not know how to make a cheese enchilada! i ordered the Guadalajara dinner and the cheese enchiladas had chile con carne. i let the server know and they were remade. i get home and have the same problem! i live an 1 1/2 hours away! the worst thing is A CREDIT CARD FEE!!! Well let me start, we always went to the old establishment after a year we return to Galveston we took the task of looking for the restaurant found it and drove there, so by the entrance I realized that the place looked dirty (floors the most) but we entered anyway and OMG I walked next to the bar to the establishment and there was something in the floor and I fell, of course I got up very ashamed of what happened and we decided to stay anyways! They cleaned the floor right after. but what surprised me the most is that no one cared that I fell because of their carelessness! No one came to ask if I was okay, I hurt my knees and hips, but no one cared, the manager never comes to apologize at least! The waitress was friendly, the food was ok but super spicy it was annoying. Every year whenever we went to Galveston, it was where we ate all the time and we will not return!

Wow, where do I start! If I take the time to make a review, it s because it is either really awesome or just horrible. It this case, it was HORRIBLE. It was shocking! The waitress clearly is just seasonal. No training whatsoever. Was not attentive. Eventually I had to get up and get my own drink. Food took forever getting to the table and refried beans had been under the heater for a while, and was crusty on top. The food? Even worse. Ordered a dish that should have come in as shown in the pic. Wish I had thought to take a pic. I was just too much in shock. The dish came and had two small shrimp draped over the edge, two pieces of rubbery precooked chicken and two slices of beef draped over the edge, two slices of fried cheese draped and then in the middle some fried onions and bell peppers. Refried beans, rice (rice was good) and a scoop of premade guacamole. For $50. Ambiance? A mix match of decor and just altogether odd and now I know why it was pretty empty. Sucks. I don t think there was any manager on duty. Not sure how this place is in business. I am an extremely empathetic person and don t like to hurt feelings. But this was highway robbery and really angers me.

We went because the food looked awesome online. We got there and there were only 2 other tables with people at 7:30 at night which was strange but hey awesome for us. Me and my husband order a margarita flight that has 3 margaritas different flavors and I was excited to try it. The waiter comes back and tells us she s too busy to make these on the rocks but we can do frozen or it ll be 25 mins for them on the rocks I don t drink frozen drinks as it gives me horrible brain freeze no matter how slow I drink them and said no thanks and he said he could make a skinny margarita on the rocks. This didn t make sense to me as they weren t busy and I could see the bar and they were just standing around. I said okay because I truly wanted a margarita. It tasted horrible and tasted like the pre-mixed margarita mix and simply stating sucked. We had only ordered cheese dip so we finished the dip, asked for the check and went to Salsa s down the road which was 1,000 times better.

Our server was friendly and attentive (5 stars). The complimentary chips were thin and hot, but the salsa was more like a tomato sauce (too thick) and not favored well. Ill pass on the salsa next time. BOMB APPETIZERS: Mexican Corn (Get this!!!) Grilled (3 half cobs) and topped with garlic mayonnaise, Cotija cheese, seasoning and cilantro. Another winner is Stuffed Jalapenos (wasnt too spicy) - Large fresh jalapenos filled with sauteed garlic shrimp and Monterey Jack cheese. Fried golden and served with sour cream. AVERAGE APPETIZER: The three of us shared a Seafood Sampler to share $24.99 - Shrimp cakes, fried shrimp, shrimp stuffed fried jalapenos, shrimp quesadillas, shrimp, crawfish & spinach dip and flour tortilla chips. Served with Ranch, lime crema and cocktail sauce for dipping. It was plenty of food, the shrimp cakes need more seasoning, but everything else was decent. The dip was flavorful, creamy and full of shrimp, crawfish and spinach. Id order it again if Im with a group. The restaurant has traditional colorful decor that kids will love, is huge, has a bar and ample spacing between tables. The east wall is covered in a gorgeous teal sequin...I forgot to take a selfie. Restroom was clean. There are tables on the balcony, but the balcony is also the storefronts walkway. Peak hours may be claustrophobic out there, but at least it has the beach view and breeze. Overall its a pleasant atmosphere with beach views and decent food. Im adding it to the Galveston foodie rotation! Kid-friendliness: Its spacious, traditionally decorated with colorful life-size figurines. The tables were too close together.

Starting with the salsa, warm and clearly made of canned tomatoes. It was the worst salsa i have ever had. The meat, both beef and chicken, are some of the cheapest quality. These guys moved to this new location, and the views from the second floor are very nice. They have lots of room for your large groups and booth seating of youre wanting something a bit more intimate. You can also take a table sitting outside if you want to enjoy the view of the gulf and the seawall. If youve been to their original location, youre gonna recognize some of their decorations and bruc brac like the carousel horse and the mariachi band. Their happy hour is sure to be gaining traction on any other place on the island. The drink and food specials for happy hour are a great selection of items anyone going to a tex-mex place would look for. Ive had the enchiladas, and I also had the mixed parrillada. The drink specials are exactly what you want to see well drinks, draft beers, and margaritas. If youre visiting, dont sleep on this place. If you live here, put this place in your rotation.

The new location offers more wonderful opportunities to enjoy the gulf being upstairs. The music was so loud we couldn t talk but the manager turned it down some & it was a far better experience than at the old location. Really really good. The Perfect Patron margarita is not to be missed!! The desserts were off the chain. OMG Even better the next day!!! It s absolutely worth getting the dinner and taking it home to enjoy it the next day!!! Unbelievable!!!! This tequila lime shrimp dinner with Chiles Toreados is THE BOMB!!!!

I ordered a charcoal beef fajita. The meat was clearly not done on a smoky grill. The pico de gallo was frozen, I asked for a fresh one and they sent it back to me saying that was the freshest they had. The fajita said it came with guacamole, but they only thought to tell me that they didnt have guacamole when I asked the waiter about the guacamole that was offered on the menu. They decided to fix the problem by giving me a one dollar discount. But at the time of paying that it was not effective.

Absolutely lack of Mexican flavor, bland and distastefuly served but that wasnt the worse. I ordered Tacos al Carbón, that wasnt cooked Al carbón, that comes with guaca, frijoles charros, rice, a side of cheese and pico de Gallo. Well, Pico de Gallo/ Salsa Bandera wasnt fresh, contrary to their claim, but what is unacceptable is that at 12 noon they didnt have guaca but failed to tell me before taking the food to the table. I asked for a discount so they gave me a $1 discount. That was nice of them. However, not having a dish that I highlighted it before servings is unacceptable. The waiter was nice though even when he forgot to mention that one of my dish component wasnt available. If you are craving Mexican food, this isnt the place to go.

Food is good but nothing special. Gave it a 4 star rating for the cheese enchilada happy hour special. Beautiful view of the ocean when sitting where you can see it and has plenty of areas where you can. Service good but felt like waitress was demeaning me because Im elderly. She looks 18 no older than early 20s. I look pretty good for an early 70s lady. It was that strange smirky smile she almost continuously had. Guess some people think theyll be young forever. Well time goes by fast and b4 she knows it shell be my age, if she makes it. That is a very rude way to act. She didnt make me feel bad. Just so tired of people calling me sweetie, honey, and other stupid names. When I waitressed for a little while. when young I treated everyone the same, the elderly the same. Im not waitresses honey, sweetie etc. One time I let a young waitress that called me sweetheart know it wasnt right. Let me start off by saying Im a regular over the past few years. Whether dining in, doing pick up or to go. Now granted, I ordered through Grubhub, Tortugas holds ultimate responsibility when it comes to food quality and packaging the orders accordingly. I called the restaurant 17 times to fix this issue. They claim they hold no responsibility since it was to go. LMFAO! You guys packaged ot wrong. When my order was still being made, I asked and offered to pay for their green sauce. I didnt receive that either. Ive given so much good word of mouth over the years to Tortugas. But not anymore. They dont care. I was trying to have a special evening with my boyfriend and went on about Tortugas food. Not anymore. Ill be finding a new Mexican place that can be consistent and care. Ill be letting my clients know not to go here.

Good food and nice atmosphere. My only problem was the location. Its located in a strip center, on the second floor. There is an elevator, but it is located at the rear of the center and getting to the restaurant requires a good little walk.

This was by far the worst experience Ive had at a restaurant in a long time. The service was absolutely dreadful. Our server was completely drunk. He didnt bring my friends their drinks, forgot what we ordered multiple times, kept disappearing, and couldnt get our bill information correct and was trying to charge us things we never ordered. He was slurring his words and couldnt remember anything. It wasnt just our table either, multiple tables had issues with him. I could write a book on how many things went wrong. Thankfully, the manager was very nice and reimbursed me for our food. Its a shame because the view is awesome since the restaurant is on the second floor, so you can see the beach perfectly. The food was pretty good, except my beans tasted a little sour. Rating 1.2/10

First time here after they moved to the old Gold s gym location. I used to hate their old location because I never got good service and the food sucked. Well that was not the case this time around! We were on the seawall watching the 12pm parade on 2/3/2024 and figured we come up to get some margs and food. The place is huge, open and the restrooms were clean. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by a super friendly hostess and seated immediately. Our server Debbie came immediately after. She was super sweet and took great care of us. We ordered some queso, Mexican street corn, street tacos and enchiladas and of course Margaritas! Every single thing we had was delicious! Really loved the Mexican street corn - they were roasted and seasoned just like how you would get at the La pulga :D The queso that we ordered was also good, however a little runny for my liking. Street tacos came in what seems to be freshly made tortillas, the steak had great seasoning and it was tender. Mango margarita I had was also delicious. Hubby enjoyed his classic margaritas as well. Overall a great experience and will definitely be back soon again! Parking: Plenty of parking space even during Mardi Gras weekend!

Im surprised this place is still open. Honestly the worst burrito Ive ever had. I can eat El super gigante burrito with no problem, but this one I didnt have the heart for it. Each bite tasted off. Not like spoiled or food poisoning bad, more like soul crushing, the next bite cant be this bad bad. At least I have a fun story to tell about the one time I didnt finish a burrito in my adult life. The wife orders tacos, they made her seem like SHE was the weird one asking for tortillas when they gave her a plate with no flour or corn tortillas, like do they know what a taco is or did our order get so mixed up they didnt say anything? It was also stupidly cold and the heat was out. We didnt ask for a box for the leftovers. I wanted to go find a taco bell to order a crunchwrap to get the burrito taste out of my mouth. Loved this place! Marvin, our server was great! The veggie fajitas were delicious! Plenty of options!The only thing to note is that they are located on the second floor and there are lots of stairs. We had such an amazing dinner at Tortuga Mexican kitchen in Galveston. This place is located right on the beach and has a upper deck view. Their margaritas are amazing and we recommend everybody trying them out from their bar. We got a little bit of everything. Their appetizer with the stuffed shrimp jalapeño poppers were amazing. I got the fajitas and they were Steaming and sizzling at the table making everyone turn their hands. We love you so much and we finished up dinner with the funnel cake which was the best part. Our server was good, still learning the menu but she was quick and attentive. The outside tables are old and rusty. They definitely need to be pained. The rust snell is so strong that it kills your appetite. Food is salty and very TexMex. Full of cheese and lots of rice to fill up the plate. The dessert tasted old and not fresh.
