Galveston South Jetty lantern is located in Galveston City college. On November 8, 2006 the lantern room, which had been removed before the collapse of the lighthouse, was dedicated as part of Beacon Square, a new front door for Galveston College whose vision is A Beacon of Light Guiding Lifelong Learning.

Because of its beaches and the surveillance that there is with the coast guard, they are always on the lookout for everything....and more than anything, the surveillance of the police makes you feel safe walking in the streets and the restaurants, not to mention more, are excellent in food. and service. very good attention....

Beacon of Hope -- Known as the South Jetty Lantern, is a historic landmark. The construction of this lighthouse was completed in June 1918. The lens for this lighthouse went on display in 1916 at the Worlds Fair in San Francisco.Standing at 91 feet above sea level. The lighthouses beacon was switched off for five months prior to November 12, 1918 due to mandatory blackout enforcements initiated due to World War I. The lighthouse was decommissioned in 1972. After years of rust and decay, a powerful storm collapsed the lighthouse on May 2, 2000. Just six months earlier a proposal was made to move it to Galveston Island State Park where it would be restored and turned into a museum. The ruins of the lighthouse are at the end of a jetty in the Gulf of Mexico on the eastern end of Galveston Island off of East Beach Drive via Seawall Boulevard.

I understand the intent, however the location on the college campus is not where it belongs. It should be somewhere on the seawall.
