This was a special anniversary trip. Lovely house. We received an upgrade because the room we booked had electrical issues. Joselyn, the hostess is very personable. However, when we arrived, we were informed that breakfast, Monday though Friday was Continental. Had we known that (it wasn t mentioned on the listing) we would have stayed somewhere else. Our favorite part of Bed and Breakfast is the breakfast. Also, I had to fill the Keurig with bottled water as it was almost dry when I went down, and I had to fill it several times that morning (we drink a lot of coffee). In addition, there were no cup sleeves and the lids did not for the cups. A huge disappointment. WIFI in the room was too weak to support streaming. Considering the lack of breakfast (absolutely no protein) it was definitely not worth the money. Food and drinks: The important part of Bed and Breakfast is the breakfast. We we arrived, we were informed that except on the weekends, the breakfast was continental. Had the listing mentioned this, we would have booked somewhere else. Noteworthy details: Our room was The Merchant. Needed a ladder to get into the bed because it was so high.

Loved our time here! Came for a romantic weekend getaway from Houston. The mansion is gorgeous from the outside, and the owner did such a great job cleaning up this historic building and ensuring its very clean on the inside, yet retrained almost every drop of its character from the last 200 years. Rooms were very clean, beds extremely comfortable, and very cool aesthetic. The hostess is very very nice and accommodating. Goes out of her way to ensure you have everything you need, and more. Makes lots of great local recommendations. And breakfast is delicious (served on weekends). Nothing but good things to say! Will be coming back here when we return to Galveston.

Do not think that this is a bed and breakfast because it is NOT! I attended an event recently where the event host did all the work. The owner boast a welcoming drink upon arrival, weekend breakfast buffet, and complementary bath robes! NONE of this was provided as she states on her website. The owner greeted me as I was paying for my room, with the fact that she had a dead rat in the downstairs room where the event guest were to have bathroom privileges on Saturday , only IF the odor had dissipated . But it was closed for the Friday gathering the host of the event was providing that night. We were told to use our rooms. Ok no problem and safer?!! The morning meal again was provided by the event host NOT THE OWNER. Thank God for the event host or we would have been on our own! It was noted that the event host seemed stressed but did their best to make sure we were provided for since the owner failed to even provide orange juice or replace the coffee pods. The coffee creamer curdled in the coffee, but nothing was done by the owner to replace it. The biggest stressor came when the owner refused to open the kitchen for the caterer stating she was remodeling one day and that it was closed on another day. She didn t seem to remember which excuse she had used to tell the host, but no work was seen and no excuse as to why it was closed. She was rude to the event host when they confronted her about nothing being said the caterer would not be allowed in. She didn t care and the caterer would have to prep the food at the bar counter. Kudos to the caterer who went with the flow but why did she not have a straight answer for the host? Maybe more dead vermin?? These were a few issues. One guest had a shower not working and when she was called she told the host to have the guest clean the shower head. The event host reminded her that these were guest not employees and suggested she have someone come out. 6 hours later the issue was solved BUT the guest was told there was not a lot of hot water and not expect a hot shower. Sunday morning we gathered in the dining room preparing to check out at the designated time of 11, when the owner showed up at 10. Comments were made by her referring to the event, music and groups that arrived. We were wandering how the owner knew about the music and conversations since she wasn t there. Conclusion? Possible surveillance cameras? Next she approached the host of the event asking her to call one of the guest to come settle her bill??!!! The host sent a text and we got up to leave. As we were entering our car out front she yelled at the host stating Did you call -? The host politely told her she had sent a text message to them. Where does it become a host of an events responsibility to contact a guest to pay their bill! This owner needs classes on management, and professionalism. And out and out curtesy. If you are hosting an event book somewhere else or make her sign a contract. It will help with loss of memory when confronted on what was promised. Rooms: This is the only reason this place has a rating. The bed was comfortable and the pillows too. Safety: The area is not the better part of Galveston and actually the strand(downtown) is in walking distance. You park at your own risk and make sure you lock the car. People roam the streets at all hours. Food and drinks: There aren t any so don t expect anything g that s promised on the website. It s false advertisement to get you to book. This is NOT a bed and breakfast! Noteworthy details: There is no instructions in the room on use of the units to heat or cool the rooms, no tv guided or help to get a channel to come on. Next the internet password was hidden on a wall in the parlor. Is it that hard to print up all this and place in the rooms? Each room had a small refrigerator but NOTHING such as a small bottle of water was inside. A small gesture would have been kind to those who travel long distances and how much could that cost? Also be prepared not to partake in anything outside your room unless you want a charge since that s not free according to the owner!!!

My wife and I spent Labor Day weekend 2023 at Carr Mansion and we had an amazing stay. We stayed in the Carriage House behind the main house, and we loved it. Joellyn, the owner, was very hospitable and routinely checked if we needed anything. She offered us drinks on our arrival. My wife liked some cookies that were available, and she provided a package of them for her later that night. Joellyn had breakfast catered by renowned Chef Mary Bass, and it was quite delicious. Delicious breakfast casserole and tamales. It was very close to the Strand and the Seawall, so everything we did was just a short drive. We will definitely be returning to try another room at the Mansion!

My husband and I stayed in the Newlyweds Room at Carr Mansion. (Each room is cleverly named after a piece of the inn s rich history.) Built in 1866, this historic, landmark home hosts just 14 guests at full capacity. Joellyn works tirelessly to ensure her guests have a clean, comfortable, friendly stay. From the moment we arrived, she personally attended to our needs above and beyond our expectations of a host. We know this type of service comes at a personal cost and so appreciated her time and effort. A hotel is just a hotel; but Carr Mansion is a home and you will feel that cozy sense of belonging with each day of your stay. We highly recommend Carr Mansion if you are planning a visit to Galveston. As a bonus, it s conveniently located near The Strand and the cruise ship port.

During the Memorial Day weekend, my boyfriend and I embarked on a trip to Carr Mansion in Galveston. Initially, our experience was pleasant as we arrived on Friday evening around 6 PM. As we strolled, we encountered Joellyn and another guest, engaging in casual conversation. However, we encountered an issue with the internet in our room initially, but thanks to Joellyns daughter, who performed a hard restart, we were able to enjoy television that night. The TV continued to function, albeit with occasional disruptions, until Saturday morning. On Saturday, we joined Joellyn and the guest we had met the previous day for a delightful breakfast. Throughout the day, we observed the Xfinity technician frequently going back and forth, while Joellyn remained present in our vicinity. We had informed Joellyn about our plan to visit a local waterpark, and each time we encountered her, she remarked on our delay in leaving. Strangely, she never requested access to our room, nor did she mention any need for the Xfinity technician to enter our space. Leaving for our days activities at around 11 AM, we returned to the Mansion a little after 7 PM, exhausted from the heat and eager to relax by watching Netflix. To our disappointment, we discovered that the cable service was no longer functioning. Frustrated, we contacted Joellyn to address the issue. Surprisingly, Joellyn immediately asserted that the cable technician had checked every room except ours because we were not present. Furthermore, she mentioned that they had relocated the booster, which had been positioned outside our room, to another area in the mansion, deeming it unnecessary. Expressing my belief that the booster must have served a purpose since the cable was now dysfunctional, I requested that Joellyn return the booster to its original location, thus restoring the conditions of the room to their previous state. However, Joellyn flatly refused, insisting that the booster was inconsequential. Feeling that the booster had been moved to accommodate other tenants at our expense, I pleaded with Joellyn to at least attempt returning it. At this point, Joellyns demeanor suddenly changed as she became agitated, even going so far as to physically confront me by jumping towards me. She claimed she didnt have time for the situation and reminded me that she had a whole house to manage, angrily clapping her hands. Surprised by her aggressive reaction, I expressed my disbelief that she would have treated me this way if I didnt look a certain way. In response, Joellyn defensively declared that she couldnt be discriminatory because she had biracial family members and Black friends. I was taken aback as I had not mentioned my race at any point. Sensing the escalation, I reiterated my belief that she would have approached the situation differently if it had involved the guest we had met earlier during our stay, expecting her to show understanding and provide assistance. Instead, Joellyn seemed to place blame on us for the problem. Eventually, we were forced to vacate the room we had been occupying and were relocated to a lesser room located conveniently near the stairs, lacking a balcony. As we moved our belongings, Joellyn lingered, observing us with an unsettling gaze. It became apparent that she was no longer concerned about the well-being of the other guests in the house. This unfortunate turn of events left a lasting impression, and I have decided that I will never return to the Mansion due to the negative experience and treatment we endured.

My husband and I stayed in Carr Mansion for 4 nights and we had a fabulous time. We stayed in The Merchant room upstairs and it was large, comfortable and quiet. We spent our evenings sitting out in the beautiful patio/terrace at the back of the house. It was so peaceful. The lady who runs the house, Joellyn, was so nice and went out of her way to ensure our stay was perfect. She was always available if we had any questions or need anything. She also cooked us a very nice breakfast. We will definitely be returning guests. Thank you, Joellyn.

Ill start with the negative parts of our visit. When we checked in about 6pm, March 30, our host had a little too much to drink prior to our arrival. Introductions were awkward but we were understanding. We were told to go to the wrong room, which we figured out easily enough. That evening we were told we would get a night free, the next day it was changed to $100 off our stay. I understood that this was said in the moment, and didnt expect any follow through, which was good because there wasnt any discount given. We were never told how best to get ahold of the host during our stay if we needed anything. Another guest told us that we were able to take waters from the refrigerator upstairs and that we were welcome to the candies downstairs. We needed an extra towel one night, because we couldnt find the host and didnt know where to get one, we took one we found folded on a dining room table. When I booked our stay I was told we would receive something special for our anniversary which was on the 31st, it wasnt even acknowledged. Other B&Bs we have stayed at have done things like: writing a note wishing us a happy anniversary, doing a little extra for breakfast, leaving fresh cut flowers or a trinket symbolizing their inn or something local, offering us an itinerary of unique places to visit, basically just a little something to add to our day. Had the host not offered anything, I would have wouldntt any further thought into it. For the positives, our host was friendly, and apologetic for how we met her. The house was charming, in a good location, and different from other places we stayed. Our room was comfortable and had most of anything we needed. Our prepared breakfast was good, as were the offerings for the continental breakfast. The place was overall well maintained, attractive, and had an interesting history. I would still recommend Carr Mansion as a place to consider, but compared to the several other B&Bs weve been to I can only offer 3 stars.

The rooms were spacious and well appointed. When we notified our host that we would not be there for breakfast on our check out day, we found a to go bag with the most delicious bread pudding and Lemoncello cake with our name on it hanging on the front door! My only suggestion would be to have healthier options for breakfast.

A beautiful and historic mansion built in the 19th century. Our room had a wonderful clawfoot tub that you could soak in for hours! Ms. Joellyn was extremely inviting and accomodating. We were offered complimentary beverages upon our arrival. She was very personable and recommended restaurants based on our tastes. Room was very clean and well stocked. We had dinner on the strand and when we got back we were even offered a nightcap. In the morning, we had the most amazing homemade waffles and sausage and fresh fruit, and mimosas! Sure you might be able to find a hotel on the island for a cheaper price- but I guarantee it will not have a Ms. Joellyn to make you feel at home and at a luxiourious and historic mansion all at the same time. Worth every penny.

The newlywed suite had multiple issues. Had to move to another room that was not ready either. No toilet paper and all rooms were very limited on space on a small sinks. No place to hang or place clothing. Only shower is in newlywed suite. The room we moved to was cheaper but no price change. If you go during week do not expect much more than a muffin and cereal for breakfast. Our bathroom door squeezed so loud we had to avoid touching it. The bathroom door did not close. While it is elegant from outside dont expect a well maintained interior. If you are looking for high price no frills this one is a good pick. There are hotels on the beach that are cheaper with more amenities at lower prices. We were looking for a romantic getaway and got a high price old house with no views, limited parked and anything but romantic.

She cooks breakfast for the guests every morning and her waffles are delicious! Saturday afternoon she hosted a happy hour with open bar on the first floor of the mansion. It was a great opportunity to hang out with Joellyn and meet some of the other guests staying at the bed and breakfast. Nothing beats the small business feel and personalization you get from a place like this. The bed was very comfortable. The bath was nice as well (note only 1 or 2 rooms have a standing shower). Breakfast in the morning was delicious. Being able to walk through your bedroom window to the patio was great in the morning to watch the sunrise. What a terrific experience for our second wedding anniversary! Right away, the Hostess Joelynn made my wife and I feel welcome. After I took my bags to our room, she had bourbon poured and waiting for us. On top of that, she had a place where we could lock up our bicycles out of sight and the street parking had security lighting. I have stayed at B & Bs all over the South and they all have essentially the same things: comfortable houses with comfortable beds; complimentary this and complimentary that. However, the hospitality of our Hostess really made this place come alive. We felt like we were staying with our coolest aunt or favorite cousin.

DO NOT STAY AT THIS B&B. The owner is not friendly to the guests and at one point was quite disrespectful. At the end of a Murder Mystery Event, we and another couple decided to leave on the spot. Galveston has too many historical places if you want a B&B-this is not want one of them if your looking for charm, owners who are provide great service to their guests and a nice atmosphere.

A group of friends chose to stay here over the 4th of July weekend and we were absolutely blown away by the property and the host! Our stay started with an emergency that held us back from coming to the island on the day of check-in. Joellyn was extremely accommodating in rearranging our days last-minute and even checked in several times to make sure everything was okay. Once we got to the Carr Mansion we could not have been more impressed, the property is outstanding, the pictures online hardly do it justice - it is everything you would hope for from an 1800s Victorian mansion. The rooms are very comfortable and all have private balconies for sipping your coffee in the morning. Joellyn hosts a happy hour in the parlor every evening and it is not to be missed, she did a phenomenal job at making sure everyone felt at home and our group ended up chatting with other guests for hours. I have stayed numerous times at the Tremont, Galvez, and San Luis and can honestly say this experience blows them away. This is not your usual sleepy B&B, Carr Mansion is a trendy, welcoming home on the island and I cannot wait for my next excuse to visit again!

What a wonderful getaway! Joellyn was the perfect hostess and every recommendation for our weekend was spot-on! Close enough to everything we wanted to see and far enough away to enjoy the tranquility of the Carr Mansion. Joellyn even went out of her way to make my husbands favorite recipe after they had chatted about it! Thanks for making our first (but not last!) trip to Galveston so perfect and memorable!

The Carr Mansion is by far the best Bed & Breakfast place my husband and I have ever stayed! We went for a nice romantic getaway Babymoon before our little girl is due. We stayed in the Newlywed Suite! The room was spacious with a private porch and sitting area, the bed was soft and towels luxurious. Each morning we had a gourmet breakfast cooked at our specified time and each night a cocktail hour with horderves. Joellyn was a great host who went above and beyond ever step of the way ensuring that we had everything we needed. If we liked something specifically (like sweet tea) she went to the grocery and got it. We will definitely be coming back...next time with our little one.

My best friend and I stayed at Carr Mansion for a girls weekend a couple of weeks ago, and what a fabulous weekend it was! We were greeted upon arrival and shown to the Honeymoon room. The room along with the whole house was so charming! The main living spaces were warm and inviting with soft music in the background. Joellyn was the most gracious host. When we went down for happy hour she sat with us for a bit and chatted. We were laughing and sharing stories instantly. She has such beautiful way of making you feel like you ve known her forever and like you are right at home. Both mornings she had coffee and fruit waiting for us when we woke up and then the most delicious pancake breakfast with sausage, bacon, fruit and mimosas! I wish every Sunday morning started out like that! I really can t imagine staying anywhere else when we visit Galveston. I can t wait to go back soon!

My friends and I stayed here for a girls getaway, and we were all so blown away by the accommodations! Every bedroom was tastefully and ornately decorated, with the most comfy linens and colorful trim. Each room had a claw foot tub and plenty of room for activities. I stayed in the Grocer, which had gorgeous lighting through the large DOOR-SIZED windows (which open onto the balcony!!!) and large L-shaped couch. Equally as amazing was Joellyns warmth and hospitality throughout our stay. Three words, yall: Truffle hash browns. Work of art. The breakfasts did not fall short of the beds, guys. Definitely making plans to come back. Most relaxing 3 days of my life, hands down. (Mascot Bonus: 6 pound Yorkie!!)

This place was amazing! I came for a girls weekend & we were all so pleased with our stay. Joellyns hospitality was unmatched, she was attentive, warm, and funny, but also respectful of what we wanted to do. We enjoyed happy hours in the pub and were able to bring our own board games down to play. Every room was so cutely decorated, very clean, and comfortable too. I personally stayed in The Church Lady room and the mattress and pillows were really comfy. I was also able to watch Netflix before bed, which was a nice added perk. My friends and I all really enjoyed taking a soak in the claw-foot tubs in each room too! The location was also great. We were able to make quick trips to the Strand and down to the beach. Were all planning to make a recurring visit here!

Perfect location for a relaxing getaway with the girls. The space is gorgeous with lots of natural light (perf for our instagram photoshoots). Each bedroom is huge with high ceilings and a claw foot tub. At the end each day, we all retreated to our rooms for a soak. After, we re-convened in one room, where we all fit comfortably on the KING size bed. The weekend was spent playing cards in the ballroom, drinking in the pub, and eating host Joellyns delicious food. The ballroom alone could comfortably fit ~60 or more people and we had it to ourselves! I didnt want to leave. In addition to the beautiful space, attention, care, warmth is the best way to describe our host. She made sure we had all we needed. We will be back!!!

Truly a step back in time. Will be going back. Hospitality as it should be. They care and it shows. The 2nd morning we had to have another serving of the hash browns. They are out of this world. The bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept on. Found mattress made in Austin Texas. Will be replacing my memory foam whatever it cost. Get room with a shower. You just have to experience it. Words cant describe. Add to your bucket list.

As a young adult, I had a wonderful stay at the Carr Mansion. It was really cool to see such a wonderful historic home in top notch condition! The room I stayed in was well designed and the bed was very comfortable. I loved how the bath was antique and there were cute toiletries that were better than what you would find at hotels. Joellyn was great and the breakfast was wonderful! I would highly recommend staying here if you want an amazing stay! Also, the location is great, just close enough to the beach and the strand!

We stayed at Carr Mansion for a long weekend in July and absolutely enjoyed it! The house has been restored to showcase many of the historic elements of the home, but has installed modern plumbing and air-conditioning. The innkeeper, Joellyn is an outstanding host, and prepares outstanding breakfasts and cocktails. She was extremely helpful with any requests we had for her. I strongly encourage anyone considering a stay here to go for a weekend and experience it for themselves!

At first sight, with its stately front stair case and white lions welcoming you in, the Carr Mansion is absolutely beautiful. All the porches facing the front of the home have fans and look perfectly suited for afternoon cocktails after a day at the beach. The renovations that have been completed are thorough and well thought out and the decor is stunning- a beautiful blend of modern luxury and a generous nod to the era in which the house was built. My partner and I arrived a few weeks before the property was set to officially open, and our room wasnt quite fully ready yet, but Joellyn and her daughter Jennifer made us feel welcome and well cared for, all while giving us plenty of privacy. We stayed in the Carriage House, which stands alone away from the big house. Its the perfect spot if you are looking for extra privacy, and has a mini fridge if like me, you have dietary restrictions, and need to bring your own food. The bed was very comfortable, and we enjoyed our evenings after dinner sitting on our private porch. I look forward to returning and enjoying the property at its full potential!

Visited during Grand Opening tour and it was a very friendly, festive, and welcoming event with great, free live music, food and beverages! The rooms are beautiful and being a fifth generation BOI who s family first came to Galveston in 1875 I appreciate their nod to previous residents by name each room after one. A great place to stay for a feel of 19th century Galveston.

I got to check out the Carr Mansion yesterday during an open house. It was such a beautiful space, I love the way it was decorated with an eclectic mix of mid century modern, antique and modern pieces. Feminine and sophisticated in the Church Lady room. I think every room had a claw foot tub! All of the people were very friendly, telling us about the space, and offering complimentary treats. It would even be a wonderful location for a special event. The owner came by to say hi and introduced himself. I hope I can come back sometime for a stay in this beautiful historic gem.

Last week we had a preview stay at the freshly revamped historic Carr Mansion Bed and Breakfast and despite a drive through bands of torrential rain our three night stay in the Greek Revival mansion built in 1866 made it all well worth it. The Carr Mansion has been updated, of course, so you won t need to forsake the wifi, the cable, the AC or the indoor plumbing. Their are six unique suite-like rooms on the top floor, all with spacious sitting areas, plus another on the main floor and a carriage house out back. Ceilings were at least twelve feet high and floor to ceiling windows opened on to balconies that were set to soon be rebuilt before the grand opening in July. We had a restored clawfoot tub in our room. I hadn t had a bath in one of those since I was a young child in the sixties visiting my grandfather in New England. It surprised me how relaxing it was as they got just the right angle for the back to recline while soaking in the warm water. Waffle robes and top quality towels were great additions to the bathing experience. Mattresses are very comfy memory foam so sleep was restful and restorative. Our bed was about four feet off the ground and we had a step ladder beside it to help get into it. That brought back more childhood memories for me of the high guest bed at the home of my other grandparents. Downstairs featured a parlor room for hanging out, an airy dining room with multiple tables and a baby grand piano where breakfast will be served when the B & B is in full swing, and a deep dark woody pub where complimentary Happy Hour drinks and hors d oeuvres get served every evening between 5 and 7. Off of the pub is a commercial size kitchen. The set-up is ideal for events like catered wedding rehearsals or anniversary parties. While we were staying there a women came by to book the entire estate for a weekend to house out of town wedding guests. The grounds, which were being worked on during most of our stay, featured huge flat stones for patio areas, surrounded by towering palms and potted plants, and would be yet another part of the estate that beckons one to just hang out and soak in the ambience. Just off Broadway on 33rd Street, Carr Mansion is an easy thirteen block walk through historic Galveston to the Strand and an even easier ten blocks to the Seawall. Despite intermittent rain, we did get some good walking in and enjoyed checking out the various stages of restoration of other nearby historic homes and businesses. The host at the mansion is Joellyn Moynahan who escaped to the island from the corporate world in Houston several years ago and got involved with managing vacation rental properties before taking the plunge into the b&b world. She embodies all the qualities one would desire for someone in her position and during our stay was utterly unflappable despite non-stop dealings with gardeners, painters, electricians, etc. who were all working to put the finishing touches on the property before the Grand Opening party in two and a half weeks. In addition to that she was getting ready for a big wine event at the mansion in only a couple of days where at least a hundred guests were expected, and yet she managed to be totally attentive to our needs and was highly informative about restaurants and other Galveston attractions. In her spare time Joelynn was looking up recipes in her favorite cookbooks to incorporate into the breakfast and happy hour menus so expect some tasty treats at this special place.
