What a great discovery! So nice to find an unpretentious Mexican restaurant close to home and away from mall/highway traffic. The food was outstanding... from the fresh tortilla chips and salsa with just the right amount of cilantro, to the hefty portion in a half order of Nachos Locos, and finally to the amazing Enchiladas Suizas! (although the enchiladas were a bit closer to Verdes than Suizas in my opinion). Did I mention the margaritas? Omigosh, the frozen top shelf was fabulous and had quite a kick to it! Nothing better to help you forget the miserable sweltering summer heat that defines Texas. Service was friendly and timely, even when they had a very large party arrive unexpectedly. Atmosphere is very casual with a Mexican flair. The patio looked really inviting... well, except for it being 102° outside. Ill give it a try when it cools down a bit, like in November. ;-) Cant wait to return and highly recommend to anyone looking for excellent TexMex & Margaritas at very reasonable prices.

Visited today and once we ordered, any request or comment seem to irritate the server. He was rushing, he continued to walk off before we could finish speaking. He was the worst, only to find out that he was the General Manager...whattttt! The manager acting like that?? I told him he was rude and he gives the excuse that 3 servers called out...thats not my problem!!! Learn how to operate under pressure, buddy! This definitely cant be the first time multiple employees have called out. Get it together or go take a nap! The carne asada tacos were dry and the shells uncooked. Needless to say, we will not be returning. Last but not least, I saw a bug crawling across the floor when we were about to leave. HORRIBLE!!

Ive come here once a year or so every year for the last 10 years. Tonight was far and above every visit and its thanks to their new server, Rogelio. He was charismatic, easy to talk to, and made our experience stand above the rest. I got my standard steak chimichanga and my girlfriend went with the Brochetta Ahumada. I was lucky enough to score some tastes and it was some of the tastiest food Ive had in a long time, along with the show Rogelio gave us flambeeing it tableside. Tonight was amazing. Ive eaten at Ernestos several times and Ive also pi ked up food to take home on numerous occasions. The food is generally good (I almost always have steak fajitas) and it wasnt bad on last visit. However, the service was deplorable and insulting to any of us spending our hard earned dollars in a restaurant. After I spoke with the MOD, he comped my bill so thanks for that. But given the rude, belligerent, and condescending wait staff they employ I doubt Ill return. Too many Tex-Mex places around with good food AND good and friendly service.

The food was great and the employees were working as hard as they could to keep up with everything. Ernestos offers satisfactory cuisine, yet there seems to be room for improvement in terms of the service and waitstaff, which could benefit from some coaching. The ambiance within the restaurant is marred by an unpleasant odor. Over the past 8 months, Ive visited this establishment approximately 5 times. Initially, I attributed the odor to a potential plumbing issue, but now it appears more likely to be related to inadequate cleaning practices. To avoid the disagreeable smell, we chose outdoor seating. Considering my experiences, I have no immediate plans to return to this location, as I am concerned about the cleanliness of the kitchen as well. Opting to visit the alternate McKinney location might be preferable if you wish to avoid the offensive odor and an unsatisfactory waitstaff.

I m from South Texas so my standard for good Tex-Mex is pretty specialized. I ask for a sample of beans and rice before I will even order. If they don t know how to do beans and rice, they won t get the rest right! I had to explain this because they initially told me no. I did order because the refried beans were good. The warm salsa is the first thing that made my eyes twinkle!! The flavor of the roasted vegetables was so good!!!!! The borracho beans are like home cooked with bacon, onions, garlic, tomatoes .. so good!!! Oh! And the guacamole is so flavorful! Everything perfectly seasoned! My family of 5 had no complaints at all!!! (This is very unusual). The gentleman at the bar did not have a name tag but he was so patient with us during the whole process. I am grateful for that. He was polite, kind, patient and welcoming. I will be bringing my friends and family when they come visit. Parking: Lots of parking space

If you re going to Hutchins for BBQ and the line is around the block, come here!!!! That s what we did and we weren t disappointed. I grew up in Colorado eating Mexican food and this is top notch. Two types of salsas both quite good and the chips are good. Ordered the guacamole and it was excellent. Off their house menu, we order the dish with chicken and shrimp and split it two ways. It was such a huge portions. The chicken and shrimp were cooked perfectly and the rice was excellent as were the beans. All very homemade quality like by Mexican family. Everything was very fresh, including the vegetables that were on the plate. The service was very good. At one point we had two people waiting on us and asking about the service. The drinks were amazing. I had their margarita with sangria laced into it. That was really good and my girlfriend had the margarita with champagne bottle in it, see the photos. She loved it. We came to Texas and wanted to eat barbecue and Mexican food while we were here for sure. This venue did not disappoint.

So, after about 15 minutes, one last grabbed her food and left without paying. I then asked if we can pay up front and I got a ride remark back saying, No! Not a friendly sorry, our system wont allow that. The bartender just kept making drinks and ignoring us. Finally, after 25 minutes, I told her I would just leave cash on the bar. She then told me she would ring me up. She got all three of us then and we left. I understand that it is a busy day for restaurants, but she could have quickly got all four of us out of there (and got four peoples money instead of three since the one last just left with her food without paying).

Food was great tasting and came out quickly. Chips were cold as well as the sause. Seating was available, and a booth was easy to get. It always seems hard to get guacamole. A small scope is all thats served. It would be nice to get a larger amount.

Ernestos Mexican restaurant is an incredible dining destination that Id highly recommend. The ambiance is warm and welcoming, and the staff is attentive and friendly. Every dish Ive tried has been authentic, flavorful, and well-prepared. From the fajitas to the enchiladas, there is simply nothing on the menu that disappoints. The drinks are also delicious and perfectly complement the food. I especially love the margaritas! The prices are fair, and the portions are generous, making it a great value for your money. I highly recommend Ernestos Mexican restaurant to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience.

Mexican food as flavorful as water. Sad. Used to be a go-to place for us. Now: fajita meat and chicken tasted boiled; neither evidenced any use of salt, much less spices; peppers and onions were mush; pico was flavorless; could have got the rice on a Navy slop line; queso was flavorless white goop that completely congealed on a one block drive home; tortilla chips snapped under a hard look, much less a bite of queso; even the flan was flavorless. The most flavorful item was the refried beans. No I dont have COVID, I can taste my cider. Hate to write a revue like this for a local small business and hope it prompts change.

We love Ernestos and never have a bad meal or service, but tonight the service was slow and our waiter had to ask us 4 times what we ordered and food took forever to come out. The food was good but service not what we are use to.

Only giving this two stars because our waitress was nice and we ve never had problems here before however my entire family has food poisoning literally did not even make it home before our stomachs were rumbling. Should ve known better the restaurant had a somewhat unpleasant smell. It s a shame because we ve been coming here since it opened. My wife immediately did not want to eat her food because the lettuce was brown and wilted. Shouldn t have taken any of the food Togo from our visit we ve now thrown it in the trash. Sad day we really loved this place.

Great food. Cheese and chicken enchiladas were prepared perfect. Sour cream sauce was just right not too rich. The chicken was tender not dry. My son had beef fajitas and the steak was tender. Which Im always leary about. The chips and were good not overly spicy. And the chips were light not hard.

I came in to eat. Was seated at a table. grabbed the cushion and scooted the chair under me, and sat down. The chair was broken. I sat on my chair cushion, and the bar that supported the chair smashed my finger and cut the nail. I asked for their first aid kit. They did not have one. They brought out a very small bandaid. Stated they had nothing else. We left and went home to bandaid my finger. We placed a to go meal but was told that when we got back up there to pick that up. They could not make the meal. So, I came for dinner and was never served dinner. I have a cut fingernail, and they did nothing about my injury. I received it because their broken chair do not know how they can function without a first aid kit. I have a picture of my injury after being seated in their restaurant. I do not recommend anyone ever eat here. They do not care about their customers. The restaurant seats a broken. They also do not have a first aid kit for anyone. We came because they used to be a good Mexican restaurant. Shocked, appalled, I now I have a split nail and a hand that hurts all because I decided I wanted Mexican food that I never got. Just was injured in their restaurant with zero care or first aid from their management.

Arrived at 5:30 and not that many people in the restaurant. Waiter finally came over and took drink order and took off before we could order queso. Someone finally brought us chips and salsa after we got our drinks. Waiter finally came back and we ordered queso. Brought queso and later asked us if we were ready to order after I flagged him down. Granddaughter got chicken strips which were so hard and rubbery she couldn t eat them. Finally asked someone to find our waiter who was nowhere in sight. Asked for more chips 3 times. Our other plates had tortillas which were hard and dried out. Had to wait 20 minutes to get carry out containers and for our bill and asked to speak to a manager. Waiter said he was the manager and sorry about that. He gave us free chips and salsa and that s all he could do. I said well then we won t be back and he said okay. Worst customer service ever. I could under issues if they were busy but they were not!!

I had a business lunch at Ernestos (recommended by my clients) and thought the food was excellent and prices very reasonable. I had the Tacos mi Pueblos and a single tamale with chili sauce off of the lunch menu. The Tacos mi Pueblos is described as 2 street tacos so I expected a small plate and ordered the tamale to go with it, but the tacos were larger than I thought, and with the charro beans and rice was plenty! All of the food was well seasoned and everyone in the group enjoyed their meal. Service was good and the bill for 4 people came in right at $50.

They didnt make eye contact, they literally ignored me for 30 minutes. My food was completely cold when they gave it to me, which I mentioned. The man said, sorry. and charged the full amount. I dont even know if its safe to eat at this point. I will never return and I recommend that nobody else does.

We had really high hopes for this location after reading reviews and looking at the pictures and menu online, but was let down after dining in tonight. :( The waiter was really friendly and nice, and the chips and salsa were good but the fajitas were not worth the cost of $20 for one small serving of chicken, steak and shrimp. The menu said it was supposed to be rare to medium rare but definitely came out medium, and the food was bland unfortunately. We had ordered a chicken burrito but it came out steak, which isn t the biggest deal but still annoying on top of the other things and the guacamole being $5 for 2 smaller scoops. The waiter did feel a little bad, but at the end we just paid the bill and won t be stopping back again and wouldn t recommend.

I recently moved back to Texas and took my girlfriend here yesterday for a late lunch and drinks. The greeting was non-existent as it was a busboy who seated us. The place appeared short-staffed so I was prepared to wait. Chips and salsa arrived quickly, however, and we ordered two top shelf margaritas. They were good. We then ordered our meal and it arrived quickly as well but the food was less than desirable. Not like it used to be. The fish tacos were not seasoned, tasted horrible and simply came on corn tortillas with no shredded cabbage as the menu suggested. I should have taken a photo. The brisket tacos were bland and watery. Our waiter never asked how our food was, and before we could even ask for another round of drinks, the receipt was sat on our table so we elected to leave. Not worth a $46.53 lunch and sadly, I probably will not be returning even though it is close to my house. There are way too many options for Mexican food and we were disappointed overall.
