It was a very fun experience and the scenery was very beautiful. It costs $6 per adult (13+), but Im fine with that. The only complaint I would have is that the bridges are very wobbly and it scared me when crossing lol.

My sweet therapy dog Jacob and I recently went to The Fort Worth Nature Center for a hike through some great trails and beautiful scenery. He loves to swim and couldn t wait to jump into some nice refreshing ponds along the way! It s a good way to get some exercise and to simply take in the natural beauty of God s creation!

I recently visited the Nature Center & Refuge during Canoe Fest on September 15, 2024, and had an overall enjoyable experience. The event offered a fun and engaging way to explore the area, though I believe it could be enhanced by allowing patrons to paddle a longer section of the Trinity River. Currently, visitors are limited to paddling a ¾-mile stretch unless they opt for a guided tour, which is required regardless of ones level of experience. Extending the self-guided paddling route would make the experience more appealing to seasoned paddlers. The Nature Center & Refuge offers plenty of well-maintained trails for hiking, and I was delighted to witness the rehoming of prairie dogs, which added a charming touch to the visit. While we missed seeing the bison, who had moved farther downhill, its fantastic that the center provides a habitat for these magnificent creatures. For Fort Worth residents, I highly recommend taking advantage of the Nature Center & Refuge admission ePass available through local libraries. It allows free admission for up to five people, making it a great way to enjoy the center while saving the usual $6 per person fee.

Visited last weekend with our two kiddos - we were on the hunt for an easy hike that would keep them entertained as well. Knowing they may see buffalo was enough for them to agree to this location. We arrived around noon, there was no wait to get in, $16 for the 4 of us. We received 2 maps which helped us decide what trail we wanted to take. This was such a fun, pretty hike. Not a whole lot of people there so we pretty much had the trail to ourself. The entire hike was fairly easy - a few spiders but none on the actual trail walkway. So many beautiful lilies on the water and lots of buffalo too - they were just on the opposite side of the fence line from the trail so we didn t get a close look. We took the river bottom trail to limestone ledge, to the prairie, circling us back to our car through deer mouse. Easy, fun, beautiful hike. We will certainly be back, especially in the fall.

We had a friendly gate attendant who greeted us. Based on reviews, I thought it was cash only, but she informed us that they definitely accept cards. Dont fret if you dont have cash. We walked around with three adults and a two year old. We braved a path with a jogging stroller, and my toddler walked for a bit. It was steep, just as the description said, so I dont recommend bringing a stroller unless you are sticking to the road and the boardwalk path. I decided to go for it anyway. The bathrooms in the refuge center were clean, cool AC, and a small gift shop along with very cool animal exhibits. I loved the turtles and the hawks the most. We took a little sidewalk circle path to the left upon exiting the center (10 minute path, maybe) and saw 4 creatures back to back! First was a bunny, a lizard, and then a writing spider and two walking stick insects. The next creature we saw after that was a fawn and its mom upon exiting the park. Unfortunately, we did not see any bison like the pictures. Maybe we will try again in the fall! We had a great adventure here and really enjoyed spending time in nature. It was peaceful to be among the big trees and away from crowds.

I grew up in Fort Worth and the Nature Center has always been awesome. All of the renovations and conservation that they have done is great. the populations of their wild animals are increasing. sightings of deer and alligators are becoming more common. Birding hiking kayaking and biking are all great. The trails are beautiful and well maintained. My only negative opinion is The bathrooms could definitely use an upgrade

My dad used to bring me here all the time when I was a kid. Returning many years later as an adult, it s cool to see that this place is just as magical as I remember it a veritable North Texas nature in a nutshell. There are numerous trails here, each with their own type of environment and difficulty level. Considering the beauty, size, and ecological diversity this place has to offer, the price of admission is an incredible value. Plus, it made an amazing setting for a marriage proposal. Special thanks to the fella working in the visitor center on June 28, 2024: we don t know your name, but we ll always remember you.

The park was great, and the guide Teal was WONDERFUL. She was so kind to our 3 year old, and went above and beyond to nurture his love of animals. She is a major reason well be back. I know this is cliche but she deserves a raise. Shes spectacular!

Looking up the history on this area was eye opening- in short- the City of Ft Worth recognized they needed to protect their water source and purchased this land in the early 1914. In the 1930 s the CCC did work here, creating bridle paths and hiking trails as well as building structures. Then in the 70 s it added animal reserve to its lust of responsibilities. Come see the bison herd, the prairie dogs, and a few animal ambassadors. Trails are well marked, and well kept. Over 20 miles of trails. Saw many kayaking as well. This area is an oasis amongst the city hustle and bustle. Great afternoon get away.

Absolutely worth the hour+ drive to get away from Mesquite to hike and explore the peaceful beauty of this wonderful park on a beautiful day! I got there a little after 2pm and had a good 2 and-a-half hours to explore. So I first started off with the legendary Greer Island; it felt like entering a haunted house after seeing an account of the Lake Worth monster on the news a year ago - which was how I first learned about this park overall. As I continued on through the island, I kept my eyes open and kept looking over my shoulder - but hey, fact or fiction, it was worth the thrill. It has excellent trails to walk through and nice areas to view the scenery of the lake. Then I moved up a little northwest to where before the lake merges into the westfork trinity river and hung out on the riverbank and saw some deer. But however, I Love this place! Still there is more to see and I will definitely return! Seeing the solar eclipse April 8th up in the Lone Point peak was just stunning!!! Never seen it get dark while in the park, I would so love to re-experience it here!

This is one of my favorite places to hike. I love the Canyon Ridge trail. If you do this trail back and forth(6.5 miles)it is a major workout. Kicks major butt if youre not in shape. Bring water and snacks because you will sweat and you will burn calories. Its also a good idea to bring hiking poles and wear some good shoes for traction. This was my 4th time hiking this trail and it surely wont be my last.

We were a bit less impressed with some of the small animal enclosures, like the injured birds didn t have much enrichment in their cages and the small aquarium animals looked sad with no other animal to be with or nice environment. The alligator didn t look like he could even turn around in his tank. And this cute turtle looked distressed and lonely in his tiny aquarium.

Unfortunately, we didnt see their bison or prairie dogs, but we still had a great time! The only thing that brought my rating down a little bit was their toddler reading time. The reader was great, but the book choices were too long for my son and probably over half the audience. I would suggest picking various different books from different reading levels, gauging the audience for their average reading level, then adjusting which books to read on the fly.

I really felt for the lady at the gate taking payment, she was very snippy but I could tell she was hot. I didn t have extra water bottles or something to offer. Please just be kind to her, she s got a rough job on these scorcher days. The visitors center is cooled, there are animals and exhibits inside. When we visited today, there were snakes, a scorpion, tarantula, toad, hawk, owl and a few other animals. My kiddos LOVED it! We ended up taking a hiking trail down to the paddle boat dock and saw a deer and bison when we were driving out! So interesting. We plan on coming back and exploring a different section of the trails :)

If you want to do the bison hayride you will need to buy tickets way in advance. There are lots of trails to walk and one is next to the river. They are working on putting in a museum. But there arent a lot of animals to look at if you are expecting that. Mostly, its just a great place to walk yourself and your dogs.

Love this magical slice of wilderness right outside Fort Worth. The trails are enjoyable and we almost always see wildlife when walking. The interpretation center has friendly staff and engaging activities every time we visit. Please support this local treasure and go enjoy a day of the beauty in nature we have right here in N Texas.

Friendly staff. Closes at 5:00 PM sharp. Amazing view of purebred plains Bison! Saw a painted bunting, and a white-eyed vireo. Lots of cardinals. Lots more to explore! Prairie dogs got wiped out by disease, so staff are waiting to reintroduce a new colony.

One of the highlights of the area is this lovely hiking area that showcases the different terrain; marshlands, rocky escarpments, flower filled meadows, and beautiful forest. Not to mention the opportunity to see bison- they are so large and incredible! This is a great place to bring kids, particularly to their nature center building which houses all kinds of snakes, amphibians, fish, and wild birds.

As a frequent visitor to the Fort Worth Nature Center, I can confidently say that this gem of a location is an absolute must-visit for both locals and tourists alike. With its sprawling 3,621 acres of lush, diverse ecosystems, this nature preserve provides an escape from the hustle and bustle of city life and a chance to truly connect with the natural world. One of the standout activities at the Fort Worth Nature Center is kayaking. Whether you are an experienced paddler or a beginner, the center offers a serene and calming experience on the water. As you glide through the water, youll be treated to stunning views of the surrounding landscape, teeming with vibrant flora and fauna. The real excitement, however, lies in the potential to spot alligators in their natural habitat. While sightings are not guaranteed, the thrill of possibly encountering these majestic creatures adds a sense of adventure to the experience. In addition to kayaking, the Fort Worth Nature Center offers a variety of educational programs and guided hikes, perfect for families or those looking to learn more about the environment. With over 20 miles of hiking trails to choose from, youll never run out of places to explore. The Fort Worth Nature Center has quickly become one of my favorite weekend destinations, and I cannot recommend it enough.
