I will start off by saying our case did get resolved, but this was also an easy slam dunk case that shouldn t have cost this much. We were trying to terminate the biological mother s parental rights but she was charged with murder and plead to manslaughter and had been in prison for the last 2.5 years and looking at 8 more years and had not had contact with the 5 year old child for the last 3 years. I initially was told this could all be resolved for $5k retainer and that s why we hired Spencer. However, at the docket call the other side wanted to proceed with jury trial which no one expected. They had to scramble to get the case together as they admitted they hadn t really looked at the case over the last 6 months for trial on a Monday. We were told he needed another 10k to go to trial. Well they prepped for trial (mostly the paralegal) and last minute on Friday right before the trial, the mother signed over her parental rights. 3-4 days of prep and not going to trial blew through $7k of our retainer in addition to the initial $5k we gave them?? We expected something like $5k but $7k? How much more would we have had to pay if we had gone to trial which the they thought would last 2 days?? Definitely look at the prices and sign something in writing before you hire them The mother and her lawyer stalled and duped us and our lawyer into spending all this money and time for nothing and our lawyer did not anticipate any of this. The law firm also acted like they were very busy with other cases. They took a few days to a week and sometimes it took a second email for them to respond to anything. I would say not the worst but not the best law firm given our experience. If I could go back I think I would ve gone with another firm honestly.

Spencer and his team is handling a strange case for me, my ex girlfriend is trying to take custody of son, even though we are not married just a ex girlfriend. Him and his team are on top of things at all times and it is going great. I would recommend him to anyone who needs a family law attorney. I will update next month when we go to court.

Still in the process of court and trying to help my husband get custody of his 2 boys, Spencer and his team so far during it has been doing a great job getting all details and info that they need to help us hopefully win, as a father it trying to get custody in a mother state it can be very stressful, but i have faith that they will do everything to prove that we are best fit to raise them. The staff in this office is outstanding with their care and the work they do for others. I needed to get something done in a timely manner and they did not hesitate to jump on the case. To add, I was a part of the Texas Legal program so the fees were paid by Texas Legal. Im not sure what the pay structure is with them but my point is the efficiency and care they took on my case was as if I was a regular paying customer. Communication was thorough and prompt with everyone on the team. This is the office you need to call if you are seeking a counsel in Family Law.

I had a divorce case that had been dragged out for 18 months due to Tarrant County Court backlogs, my ex s reluctance to finalize the divorce and overall attorney incompetence. In Feb 2023, I recruited Spencer and his team to take my case to final trial and they crushed it! What 2 other attorneys failed to do in 18 months, Spencer got done in 6 weeks. I had worked with several different attorneys in an attempt to resolve a modification that just wouldnt end. I was burning through resources and energy with little to no results. Spencer is a great attorney. I saw a low rating review below and I wonder if it came from a place of expectations and not about Spencer himself. When I came to Spencer about a modification, he was very honest and upfront and told me what I didn t want to hear but it was the truth. He then gave me clear advice on a different approach, and I also hired him for a protective order hearing, which I am very glad I did because he saved me from a res judicata situation that I didn t even know was a thing. I would give them a 10 star review if possible! This law firm is hands down the greatest law firm in Tarrant county! They have gone above and beyond any expectation I ever had! I had previously hired another attorney back in 2016, but due to the uncooperativeness of the other partys attorney and my attorneys own personal demons, my case was dragged out for two years with zero progress. Then, I met Spencer back in April 2018. I explained to him the backstory of my case as it currently stood. My case was not an overly complicated case at all, as I was simply being denied my access for visitation. He made no promises, but did tell me that I did have good merit for a modification of the parent-child relationship, which is what I believed to be the case prior to meeting with him. If Im not mistaken, the final trial in my case had been reset a total of 4 times over the course of my case before we officially had trial. After all these years, dating back from 2014 - 2022 (8 years), my case was so loaded with evidence, it was actually planned to have trial over the course of 2 days. Luckily, we were able to finish trial in 1 single day. While Spencer does represent both mothers and fathers, Spencer has a real passion for representing fathers and is an advocate for fathers equal rights, this is one of the reasons I was drawn to hire Spencer. I knew that I did not make a mistake when choosing who I wanted in my corner. For those that think that simply having an attorney is the be-all and end-all, you couldnt be more wrong. You should be on top of your case just as much as your attorney is. Your case is as good as you make it out to be, an attorney can only do so much. I went to trial thinking that my case could go one of two ways. I figured in the best case scenario, I would be awarded 50/50 custody, worst case scenario, nothing would change (which is what is typically expected in the District Court I was in since the judge is traditional and old fashioned - which means pro-mom). To my surprise, the judge awarded me primary custody with everything additional that I asked for in my pleadings (effective 04/11/2022). Spencer is a fantastic attorney who actually gets the job done and takes pride in his work! There are many attorneys that practice Family Law, but in my opinion, I wouldnt consider most of them to be good trial attorneys, whereas Spencer knows all of the ins-and-outs of trial, he knows what evidence should be presented and when, he knows exactly when to make an objection, and he can be extremely persuasive to not only the judge but the opposing party. I never had any issues with communicating with him or his office. I could not have asked for better representation! I know exactly who I will refer people to when a Family Law attorney is needed! Absolutely horrible experience. I would never recommend the Nilsson Group. Horrible communication. Found out 10 minutes prior to my first court appearance they wouldnt be there and it should probably be rescheduled. Second court appearance was an hour late. No follow up until billing then lots of emails that get charged at a 15 minute increment.
