Ennis Bluebonnet Trails (an April driving route)

About the Company

rating: 4.6

The Ennis Bluebonnet Trails are NOT a destination that you plug into GPS and go to. They are a route that you drive to see bluebonnets in the countryside surrounding Ennis. The trails are public roads that travel through PRIVATE properties. They may be driven any time there is daylight. The current trail map is a MUST for finding the best blooms. Visit our website to print the map. Reload your browser before downloading to be sure it is the most current version, as it does change from year to year and even week to week during April. Public parks where you may legally park to get out of the vehicle for pictures in the bluebonnets will also be listed on the trail map.

It is a truly magical experience to drive down the Ennis Bluebonnet Trail. We visited in early April and bluebonnets and Indian Paintbrush flowers were everywhere. And so many other wildflowers too, The sides of the road and the fields were just so beautiful! There are three good viewing areas. The Visitor Center in downtown Ennis is well-designed, and offers lots of information and guides. This is an experience thats not to be missed

We were in Texas for the eclipse, but timed it just perfectly for the bluebonnets to be in full bloom. The bluebonnet trail in Ennis exceeded all of our expectations, what a beautiful and friendly little town. We had looked at the visitors bureau map online and also stopped into the visitors center for a physical map. We were running out of daylight, and the visitor center staff recommended the northern loop around tiny Bristol which was just beautiful. Gorgeous flower fields and the prettiest homes. There were a number of families and would be influencers in flowing dresses taking pictures. Sadly the Belgian horses were not out in their field that evening. I definitely want to come back and spend more time to explore. The scale of the map was larger than I expected, its quite an extensive drive.

Drove 50 miles to see the supposed flourishing Bluebonnet trail. So let down, too much overgrown elements mixed in with the Bluebonnets. Not worth the time and gasoline. CBS, Texas news channel, went on and on, about the beautiful drive. Obviously no one from the station went to check it out. Lunch in town, was really good. So it saved on disappointing viewing of flowers. They really should be more forthcoming with bloom statis.

Ennis is a great place to visit, especially if bluebonnets-seeking in April. We visited in early April and bluebonnets were everywhere. There are three good viewing areas. The Visitor Center downtown is well-designed, very handicapped friendly. Staff is friendly and helpful. The restrooms are all private, clean and nearly luxurious. Sadly, the day I visited we were hit by torrential rain, so getting nice shots in the driving areas was difficult.

We traveled from Tulsa, OK to Ennis on March 31. As soon as we got to Ennis we drove the bluebonnet trails from last years map since the new map was not out yet. The bluebonnets were in full bloom and simply beautiful. We also enjoyed the winding hilly trail roads with fantastic views all over. We also were very impressed with how beautiful downtown Ennis was. We will definitely come back, we highly recommend!

Food, carnival rides, live music, etc. Ive done it three years in a row now. I always enjoy it. Check out the Ennis yall app for maps and info. I drive up from Houston, thats how much I enjoy it. The weather was a little gloomy and cold, hence the photos didnt come too well. Moreover, its almost the end of the season. Next year we plan on going there again at the beginning of the month.
